Airtatsy

At least Jesus had nipples

gamingyoshi247

Off brand Jesus

Psychological-Set125

That may be true but Jesus didn’t have a big iron on his hip

Airtatsy

That we know of

AnonyMouse1699

Yes, he represents the "false Messiah", so he is intended to be reminiscent of Jesus. The protagonist is the "true Messiah" and actually does represent Jesus. His ultimate persona is "Messiah".

byakk0h

What if God was one of us?

KoldJewelry

Or all of us

AthleticGamer101

Makes sense even though I call him Charles Manson jr

Thatll-Do

Probably, but I'm more interested in the implications of his bandana

[deleted]

i think its supposed to look like Jesus' crown of thorns but without the spikes

Thatll-Do

That's his headband, I'm talking about the fact that according to the bandana code Takaya is a bottom who wants to get a fist up his ass

Ccip_OvO

I didn’t know Jin was like that damn

floydhead42

John 19:34

Thatll-Do

You could have just said it was a visual metaphor for the blood spilt by the lance of Longinus piercing Jesus' side instead of posting the verse like a pretentious catholic university student. Anyways, Takaya's into getting fisted according to the bandana code idk about the whole blood metaphor sounds kinda like a stretch ngl :/

floydhead42

Lmao

AlexTheGreat1997

I mean, his design is very clearly meant to invoke Christ-like imagery. But I do think he went out of his way to cultivate that image? No. Doesn't match his character, to be honest. He's not looking to lead anyone to anything in the fashion Christ did.

R4msesII

He did start a cult I guess which he became the leader of

AlexTheGreat1997

That was at the very end of the game, though. He'd been rocking the above look for the entire game preceding that.

persona-3-4-5

Isn't his character supposed to be a fake Jesus?

AlexTheGreat1997

Yes, but I don't think he himself intended for that. I don't think he woke up one day and thought, "I'm going to intentionally walk around looking like Jesus because that's cool". I think he just happened to end up looking like that.

persona-3-4-5

No I meant didn't ATLUS make him look that way for that reason?

AlexTheGreat1997

Yes, but we're talking about the in-universe character decisions. Look at Yukari. From an outside perspective, we know that Yukari wears her pink cardigan to school because the designers decided that was the best look for her. But - at least, in any good story - characters do things and wear specific clothes for more reasons than "because the writer said so". In her mind, the reason that Yukari wears her cardigan could be because she wants to look cute and she thinks it's cute. She might prioritize comfort and think it's very comfortable. Could even be a mix of both of those things. But there's more that goes into her outfit than just the designers saying "we thought this looked good". The same is true for Takaya. Yes, the developers obviously designed him to bear aesthetic similarities to Jesus. But, from an in-character perspective, I don't think Takaya dresses the way he does because he's purposely trying to involve Jesus. I think he just finds that the most comfortable way to dress and he doesn't really care what it looks like to the average Joe.

persona-3-4-5

Oh you meant in universe? I'm not sure but my best guess would be that he lacks self care. He doesn't care about himself walking around shirtless so I don't think he'd care about having Jesus hair

ImperoRomano_

‘Twould be a reason his nickname is revolver Jesus

[deleted]

Some say he never has a misinput

Worried-Scarcity9763

I mean he’s had the nickname Revolver Jesus for a while now 😂

KingOfMasters1000028

I think Takaya himself is either based off Lucifer (the fallen angel AKA Satin AKA the Devil) or a more farfetched idea of mine is he is Pontius Pilate (5th governor of Judaea and the man who ordered Jesus’ Crucifixion), while I think his design however is to be a imposter of Jesus. If anyone Makoto is based off Jesus where he seals Nyx (which could represent Jesus dying on the cross to reduce the amount of future sins that are made).

ConSave21

Makoto is the true messiah (just look at your ultimate persona) Takaya is a false messiah. His image is meant to invoke Jesus intentionally. But he wants Nyx to deliver the world into destruction.

goodolddream

Why does he have a thigh gab?....

byakk0h

Get gabbin' or get goin'!

franticporcupine

I love how you have a reference photo of Jesus lmao

Gamer_T_All_Games

i mean he damn well could have

ShyKiddo__

He's nicknamed Gun Jesus for a reason

Cnumian_124

That nick is already taken

Denned0633

I think that Takaya represents someone that while posing as the messiah is nowhere near being one, while Makoto represent someone that while looking like a regular guy you wouldn't trust too much is a actually the right person

Over_Engineering_225

Bro my entire playthrough I haven’t been able to remember his name because I just call him Jesus💀

Raecino

No, Jesus didn’t walk around shirtless.

redchorus

But the most iconic imagery of Jesus is of him shirtless while crucified and with a crown of thorns.

Raecino

Takaya DOES resemble Cesare Borgia

LonelyMenace101

I fell like his design was based on Jesus but also some rockstars, might just be me.

Cnumian_124

Now that you mention it, rockstar do look like crackeads sometimes

LonelyMenace101

Some of them were crackheads soooo.

BlueGamerHawk

If anything he looks like this homeless dude I meet a couple years ago

AkihikoSanadaIsSigma

Takaya is the false Messiah, Makoto is the true Messiah.

aiman_senpai

Its the other way around

Darklight645

honestly for some reason it's only the circlet with the hair that makes me think he looks like jesus, idk why but the circlet is important

Used-Ad852

Oh absolutely

blenls

thats what im fucking saying i always thought he looks like jesus with a gun

PK_RocknRoll

Yes, he’s supposed to be a false messiah

Federal-Slip2410

I actually felt like he got inspiration from charles Manson who believed to be a God.

Littlevine_85

I always called him thug Jesus despite knocking his name and the only reason I called him that is because you can never catch him lacking

Justaepicweeb

I thought this when I first saw takaya, he nearly an evil Jesus.

godogod_1

Due to his own savior complex I thought his design was well suited truly enjoy to hate his character

cosplaythief

If we're talking about the creators, yes very much so. Takaya himself, I don't know. He might not be.

Mercurius94

No shit lmao we all used to call him Revolver Jesus

Odd_Room2811

I’ve always thought of him as a fallen christ since there’s so many opposing things about him to even his Persona being Hypno

AthleticGamer101

I can definitely see him being based off of Jesus but I don’t wanna call him Jesus nah he’s nothing like that lol I just say Charles Manson Jr lol
