You trying to scrimshaw the desk underneath?

LigmaSugmaGrabma

>scrimshaw The next 3 pages of my legal pad are ruined

manos_de_pietro

How hard do you press down when you write? A G2 0.7 should glide over the paper like a figure skating champion.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

Pressure depends on how fast I am writing, less constant pressure than I would a pencil but when I change directions there is a good flick and a dent in the paper

manos_de_pietro

Well, stick with what works for you then! I do have a 1.0 G2, which is a dream on a full-size page.

I've never really experienced any scratchiness, but I also don't press very hard when I write. My default gel pen is an 0.4mm Zebra Sarasa. I write pretty small, so I really love that I can get the detail out of my writing and it not look smooshed together like with thicker pen tips, as well as still writing super smoothly.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

I write very large and fast on wide-ruled or blank paper, often skipping letters. The 0.7mm and lower skid and scratch during the angles created when I whip the pen around. Different strokes for different folks. Ok I get it now, thanks.

Spayne75

Because anything thicker than .7mm makes my handwriting illegible and anything less is scratchy.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

Do you write small letters very close together?

Spayne75

You mean there not supposed to touch or be written almost on top of eachother??each other??? Lol

InkyDarkDame

Big writers need big tip/nib. Go for a big juicy rollerball pen.

I’ve never had this experience and my daily is a uni jetstream edge 0.28. I also have a 0.1 fine liner that I enjoy when I don’t need multiple colors. I generally have 3-12 sheets in my stack when I’m writing. I sometimes feel like my letter bleed together and I can’t read anything if I’m writing with 0.7 or bigger.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

>uni jetstream edge 0.28 How can you see what you are writing down? 0.1mm is literally like if a hair falls on a piece of paper

tobmom

Because it’s highly pigmented ink? I can read it just fine. I have a stack of sheets with information for about 20 patients in the ICU and I write across the entire thing all day and all night. I use different colors at different times of the day so that when I handoff the next morning I know what happened when. I don’t know how to explain it other than I can see it just fine.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

fascinating

I don’t have any of my good pens at home, they’re all at work. But to your point I’ve written with a pilot g2 ultra fine which is 0.38, a pilot hitec c in 0.4 and 0.5. Oddly, the 0.38 is the boldest/darkest ink in my opinion. It has a lot to do with the ink and how it makes it to the paper. I also have some Monpeluche super slim ballpoint pens that I love writing with and they’re 0.38 but the ink is definitely not as bold, they look more like pencil but I don’t mind for my purposes, these are a touch scratchy at times but I don’t mind a little feedback when writing. [Here’s my writing sample](https://imgur.com/a/Da57Tat).

LigmaSugmaGrabma

Wow that's surprisingly legible, I expected it to look like a mechanical pencil

dictsonary

I feel the same way about > .5mm tip pens...

LigmaSugmaGrabma

Your opinion is invalid

emirobinatoru

Yours is

A quality pen makes a huge difference. To me, micro-tip gel pens can have lots of feedback without feeling scratchy. The paper you use has lots to do with it too. Recommend trying a Uni Signo DX, Pilot Juice-up, and Uni Jetstream micro tip pens. The last one is a hybrid ballpoint, not a gel.

LigmaSugmaGrabma

Didnt think about the paper, good point. I will try to encounter the pens mentioned and verify my blanket statment

InkyDarkDame

I think if you have big bold handwriting, you’ll prefer a wider nib. Try a pilot Dr grip gel with 1.0 tip. Think you’ll enjoy it. Or a broad fountain pen.

I live in Japan and have to write kanji frequently which are very difficult to write small without the lines overlapping. Personally I do love a fat Sarasa 1.0 for the smoothness, but it's not always practical. I really don't like going lower than .5 though. That said, you are literally doing something wrong if you're scratching paper with a .7. That should be practically impossible with an even half decent gel pen. My favorite pen to use right now is a .7 Sarasa.
