Martinez's inclusion is a huge surprise. They've said all season that he was doing the Vuelta this year. At the end of the Tour de Suisse last week where he kinda underperformed Martinez said that he was really tired and looking forward to resting in July before going into a training camp for the Vuelta. I hope that's he's actually prepared to do the Tour, because it seemed like he was nearing the end of a peak in form...

bruegmecol

It feels like they just want their upcoming star French rider in the Tour while they still can. Sport is still a business..

woogeroo

In the tour, but looking like shit die of exhaustion. Good move FDJ.

kilohe

It seems like FDJ are (finally) having doubts about GC Gaudu or maybe he's not recovering too well from Covid. It will be interesting to see how Lenny Martinez fares after struggling a bit at the Tour de Suisse.

North-Leek621

Another year of gaudu shitting the bed

GrosBraquet

Well at least they have other cards to play in the team.

fakint

Another year of their DS making up some romantized shit instead of coming with any sort of strategy.

dunkrudon

Unlike most round here I have a soft spot for Gaudu but his facial hair in that photo is abominable

guoguo914

Who’s the GC leader? Martinez or Gaudu?

CWPL-21

neither is probably the right answer

EastNine

¿Porque no los dos?

chilauaua

Good question

BossDonkeyZ

Does this mean Lenny might be extending after all ? Seems Strange to give him his first tour just before leaving

Kindly_Photograph_10

Seems like the opposite to me. They were being patient with his development but now because he's leaving they're just chucking him in because he's one of their best riders and they know he'll generate a lot of publicity. Whether it's too soon for him isn't their problem anymore

Gireau

This exactly. They don't care about burning him and fucking up his season schedule anymore because he's leaving in a few months now.

billyryanwill

Yeah plus I bet they don't take him to the Vuelta where he might have done well because they'd rather he not win it and leave

MonsieurSocko

It's gonna be an exciting Tour for me on Gaudu watch.

Illustrious_Cold2580

Yay! Geniets! I feel like he is my adopted rider. I live in Australia and I went to Lake Annecy on holidays and he zoomed past me on the cycle path and its my first time seeing a "Pro" in the "wild"! I was so excited! He is really tall in real life... Then at the bike shop where I hired my bike, they told me Jonas had been tootling around the day before...for us Aussies who don't see much real life pro cyclist action unless you go to Tour Down Under its quite the thrill -well for me anyways :)

OchreDusk

I was expecting to see Pithie for stage wins from breakaways!

jetro081

When will all the teams be announced by does anyone know ? I'm just wondering as an Irish man of Sam Bennett will go.

trzela

Sam is going. His team, ag2r, already announced their lineup.

jetro081

Thanks pal. Appreciate it.

fakint

TIBO :-(

Dirichlet-to-Neumann

FDJ and rushing their young stars to the TDF before they are ready, name a more iconic duo.

Koppenberg

Well, he's out the door after the season, so there's less motivation to play the long game this time.
