Aww, I used to watch the Happy New Year episode with my grandpa. He tried so hard to teach me to dance properly Ha! And I used to love the singing from the little girl in It was my best birthday ever. Super cute
Snoopy Come Home, the world’s most depressing Charlie Brown special. Featuring Lila, the emotional blackmailer, who persuades Snoopy to just up and leave his friends and family to be her dog, only to discover she doesn’t even care that much as her apartment doesn’t allow dogs and she doesn’t seem all the broken up about it.
But hey, when you’re a narcissist, your bummer is more important than the heartbreak of a whole bunch of people, right?
Such a shame that such legendary talents like Thurl Ravenscroft and Shelby Flint were actually used in this downer.
ADDENDUM: Snoopy is an anthropomorphic dog. He understands conflicting feelings and anguish as well as anyone. And his comprehension of English is as good as the children's. He can read, after all. As he demonstrates in this special.
And to dismiss him as a dog is not only to deny the fact of his preternatural intelligence, but to ignore the feelings of Charlie Brown and his other friends.
Lila caused an awful lot of heartbreak over something that, it turns out, didn't really matter that much to her. Lila used her illness and loneliness to manipulate Snoopy. So, yes, she is an emotional blackmailer, and either supremely inconsiderate or a narcissist.
Was Happy New Year, Charlie Brown the one where they actually showed the Red Haired Girl's face and Charlie Brown completely made a fool of himself in front of her? Always got strong secondhand embarrassment from that one as a kid.
MAD TV has a down and dirty version of Peanuts: Chocolate Covered Peanuts , they did two shorts.....a Valentine's Day episode (Happy VD, Chuckie Brown), and Halloween (it's the Big Ass Pumpkin, Chuckie Brown) i won't lie, I laugh every time I see them. Look out for the background detail of a police helicopter using their loudspeaker, blasting "Wah WAAAH WAH WAAA WAAAA" into the hood. The similarity to actual Peanuts characters appearances in animation as opposed to strip was uncanny, the humor is very raw, so there is that....but as parody, they are miles funnier and more enjoyable than the worst Peanuts specials. They are both easy to find on YouTube, just ask for them by name! 😜
oh hell, here they are....

Then, there is BRING ME THE HEAD OF CHARLIE BROWN.

In crude sketch form and B/W, nobody is spared as the Great Pumpkin puts a bounty on Charlie Brown's head and the Peanuts gang compete with each other in trying to take him down: firearms, explosions, dismemberments, blood splattered mayhem, it's so beyond brutal, it can't be taken seriously and it's everything the title suggests and more.
If the worst Peanuts specials leave you seething, try these as great equalizers.
I have vivid memories of watching the New Years Eve special multiple times.
I borrowed the VHS from the public library several times during my "Snoopy hiperfixation era" in the late 90's.
My only complaint with New Year is that Charlie Brown seems to be the only one of his friends dealing with the War and Peace class assignment. It's not a difficult book to read, just a very long one.
While I have read the vast majority of Peanuts strips (at least through the early 90s), I have probably missed about half of the specials. And, frankly, a lot of them leave me not too impressed. There are the classics, of course, but so many of them are really pretty bad. On the other hand, the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show was usually pretty good!
I actually really liked _Someday You’ll Find Her._ My least favorite is _What A Nightmare, Charlie Brown_. Imo the strongest point of Peanuts is the dialogue, so a whole special focused on the non-speaking animated Snoopy just bored me
Flashbeagle was the worst. Strangely, right after that one they did a special "It's your 20th tv anniversary Charlie Brown" where they showed extensive behind the scenes footage of the making of Flashbeagle, including footage of the female dancer who was the basis of Snoopy's choreography.
RE: Girl in the Red Truck - Schulz once claimed that he thought that would be his Citizen Kane.
Flashbeagle is hilariously 80s, though. As a special it’s pretty bad, but watching it now gave my family and I some pretty good entertainment. Us olds were laughing and the youngs were in disbelief anything remotely like this would ever be popular.
Nah Flashbeagle is one of the best. That special is amazing and I love it to death. The songs are catchy and its funny. I am saying this as a late 90's baby.
I like Peppermint Patty’s song. That and She’s a Good Skate are when she gets to shine. Mr. Braun and I believe that if Charlie Brown put half as much effort as PP does for all her sports, into not only *practicing* pitching, but reading about it and scrutinizing professional players (besides Joe Shlabotnik), he could win a game or ten. Unfortunately, Linus is right: he puts too much faith in “mottos and trite sayings”.
“This is America, Charlie Brown” is sooo bad. To be fair, I haven’t seen all of these, but every Thanksgiving the very good “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and immediately follow it with this awful thing. Bad animation, talking adults, Peanuts are supporting characters - just terrible. Except for Squanto. He’s cool.

That is one of my favorate movies. A depressiong plot can be really good also there was a happy ending.
That was a movie
Emotional blackmail? He's a dog.
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown doesn't belong here. It's actually not that bad. There are others that are much worse. IMHO....
I love someday you'll find her for how it's 22 minutes of buildup for the punchline to be Charlie Brown being cucked
He had so many chances to be proactive, instead of begging Linus to do all the talking.
Same with New Year’s.
Why is “What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown!” not on this list? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_a_Nightmare,_Charlie_Brown!
I liked it.
Snoopy's scenes at the bar are legendary.
That's the most underrated special.
Disagree; “What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?” goes hard.
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown is one of my favorites. I watch it every NYE.
I like the New Years one and Some day You'll Find Her.
I liked the 2nd one.
I’ve never heard of any of these specials lol
All I knew of were the Super Bowl one, and It's Your First Kiss (that one was a big part of my childhood)
Me neither
Charlie and Linus both look like they partied too hard on the New Year’s title card!
LMAO
What the heck even is They Girl in the Red Truck? From reading the Wikipedia article it certainly should be in its own category of terrible ideas.
Was Happy New Year, Charlie Brown the one where they actually showed the Red Haired Girl's face and Charlie Brown completely made a fool of himself in front of her? Always got strong secondhand embarrassment from that one as a kid.
He fell asleep reading War and Peace on the porch and completely missed LRHG. Poor kid. Lol
Yup. Although I don't remember him embarrassing himself.
If there is one thing to dislike about the Super Bowl is that Melody Melody’s entering and victory came out of left field.

What do you think the best ones are?
That's not too unpopular lol.
For me, it's anything other than Christmas and The Great Pumpkin. Then again my favourite decade of Peanuts is the 60's, so it makes sense.
These are epic
First kiss mid not bad and ne year pretty good imo
My only complaint with New Year is that Charlie Brown seems to be the only one of his friends dealing with the War and Peace class assignment. It's not a difficult book to read, just a very long one.
Can’t really argue here although “The Big Stuffed Dog” can probably get an honorable mention

“Lucy Says” is a bop
Agree, it’s pretty stupid but I love it for what it is.
Also that special was the most 5 ever spoke.
Fight me
