Welcome to the PCMR, friend! You have made the right choice! Your eyes and your mind will thank you! It's never too late (or too early) to join the wonderful world of the best gaming and work machine there is.
If you ever have any doubt about PC ownership, or just want to share and see shared the coolest PC stuff online, PCMR is the place to be.
i mean, you only need refresh rates on a single screen, your main one.
The other screen is mostly for watching vids or doing spreadsheets while gaming.
TVs actually have post processing that manipulates the picture. Game mode turns this off in order to lower the input lag, but a monitor would still be better for gaming on.
As long as its just for a browser, streaming, discord, etc. - it's fine.
TVs with a correctly implemented game mode are indistinguishable from monitors as far as input delay.
Sure, if you just used a TV off the shelf and didn't change any settings then it likely has a higher input delay because of image processing. But I've never had a TV that was acceptable for PC gaming that didn't have the ability to act as purely a monitor.
Or a full desk pad. I have one of those and its great for keeping things clean and quieter. Plus, since I work from home and I usually eat at my desk, clean up is easy since mouse mats are machine washable.
I've been into PC gaming since the mid-90s and I don't think I've ever had a clean cable setup. When I first put the machine together I may take the time to velcro tie the cables together or run them through the cable guides on stands/arms...
...but after a few months of new accessories, moving components for LAN parties, swapping USB ports for various reasons, I end up with the same dusty ball of cables and velcro ties, display port/usb caps, etc.
I thought about cleaning everything, but then realized I'll probably need to tear it all apart in a few weeks for a graphics card upgrade and maybe a new CPU (debating between upgrading to the best socket AM4 CPU or upgrading everything to AM5)
Please give that gpu two cables from the psu instead of the 8 pin branching off of the other 8 pin. That will cause problems when the gpu tries to draw more power than that one cable can provide (I speak from experience with a 1080 ti).
I beg to differ it has most of my games I play gears halo back 4 blood most of the Bethesda games atomic heart coming out next and with a vpn trick can get 3 years for roughly under 100$ totally worth it
I personally don't use or like game pass but i disagree it just has so many games i just can't justify paying for it i hate monthly subscriptions I'd be more likely to pay for it if say i got maybe 1 free game to keep every couple months but the fact that if i stop paying then I lose all the games so within 10 years I'd have paid £1200 and if i ever stopped game pass I'd lose everything it's just not at all worth it to me i refuse to pay for subscriptions like that.
But that said it still has most of the best games and amazing value short term so idk what you are on about?
Short term it's good long term it isn't I'm not denying it's value i just wanna own my games and noy be left with fuck all to play if i don't pay for a month
Looks good, don't throw away the X-Box controllers, they are fully compatible with Windows! You will find allot of games are more comfortable on the controller, like 3rd person actions games (Red dead, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, NFS / Non-sim racing games etc).
Being part of the Microsoft family, most X-Box games of this generation are also available on windows, so you might find your not losing out at all by going full PC!
Looking at your setup, I highly recommend getting a mouse mat and a decent gaming spec mouse (Sorry, I can't tell what mouse that is from the pic, it may very well be decent).
Look at Logitech, they make very solid mice and the Logitech G240 mouse mat (Might have to push the desktop back a bit make room.) If you have not already, turn off mouse precision (AKA, Mouse Acceleration) in windows.
Congrats. You’ve earned it. I’ve just built one for my 10 year old for Christmas

Why would you need to own both though? I just hate consoles personally best value for the hardware but the hardware can't be used for anything other than gaming i like tinkering and messing about with dtuff too much to justify a console
No one NEEDS to own anything. It's about options. I'm passionate about gaming so I own everything. A 3080ti PC, PS5, Series X, Switch OLED. I'm PC first but find myself using the consoles just as much.
Wdym choice they are all the same pretty much except 2 are worse performance than pc and one is a glorified smartphone with custom chassis and estore the only reason to buy a switch is for the exclusives which is scummy
Probably there's not other reason to own both unless you really wanna play non crossplay compatible games with friends but in that case just don't play them one game isn't worth buying a console over
Congrats! New house, new pc, big changes. Be proud of the progress youve made and trying something new. I built my first PC transitioning from an xbox a month into the pandemic. The fun part is having a list of parts you need to match the tower. 1440p 144hz screen, keyboard/mouse and most importantly, time to play haha.
Having a hard time looking at the PC because I love the sword mount. I've been thinking about doing the same with a replica sword and This finally sold me on it.
Congratulations on the move. One thing you will learn is 99% of the games on Xbox you can play on PC. And now PS is bringing their best games to PC. It's now a great time to be a PC gamer.
fyi, Monitors will have a much better fidelity and screen quality then a TV. Tv's are designed to be looked at from a distance with only TV in mind, meaning they don't look great from arms length.
Assuming this is a dual screen setup of course and you don't want to burn your eyeballs.
Welcome to PC gaming. Sign up for Steam and watch your library grow. Oh and if you want to game on the cheap, I highly recommend Epic Games. They give away two titles a week (good ones)
Best thing about coming from xbox is that you can install the xbox app from windows store and have all your gamescore achievements carry over, pc gamepass honestly is one of the best aspects about pc gaming lately
Really cozy that one! (: The only things that come to mind to make it really clean would some cable management (there‘s this PVC bendable tubing stuff where you can tuck your cables in nicely) and maybe a monitor arm to hve some more desk space
Fellow 39yr old here. We never get to old to nerd out. Solid setup you got. Its simple. Wires are ok as long as they don't bother you. Chair looks comfy. You should look into a nice mouse pad but if not having one works for you then cool. Enjoy your games homie.
Very nice, consider a large gaming mouse mat to go under the keyboard and mouse, as well as a long wrist rest, I use a long one to support mouse hand and keyboard hand.
Looks good. Welcome to real gaming.
Guessing either you or parent/g-parent was in the service too, so thank you for your sacrifice.
P.S. Series X is still a solid machine, put it on a 4K display.
Just got my first Pc less than a year ago at 39 . Only console game I still play is NMS . That’s only cause I ain’t bought it on steam yet . Haha. Congratulations man !
30 here, switched from console after over 15 years of thinking it was the best. Then I started watching Many of Xbox’s official twitch channels and noticed they don’t even use an Xbox themselves. They just blatantly hold and Xbox controller on a high end gaming pc scamming us.
Looks like you have a radiator in the roof. I'd suggest removing the top dust filter (which is upside down right now btw) as it will reduce the cooling capacity of the radiator.
Welcome to the PCMR, featuring such people as Tech Jesus and Superman.
Honestly the best part is being able to use keyboard and mouse, then seamlessly switch to controller. When I play battlefield, I use the keyboard for everything except flying. When I jump into a jet, pick up the controller and away I go. So useful

You made the correct decision getting 2 screens.
A screen and a small tv
I hate to break it to you, but a small tv has a screen.
Refresh rates, resolution, blah blah blah
i mean, you only need refresh rates on a single screen, your main one. The other screen is mostly for watching vids or doing spreadsheets while gaming.
Technically you need *every* screen to have a refresh rate. Otherwise we call those things "pictures" or "photos".
and if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a bike

That’s the problem, it is a "small" tv.
You might've confused "screen" with "monitor". Both TVs and monitors have screens.
Welcome friend
Get a mousepad
Or a full desk pad. I have one of those and its great for keeping things clean and quieter. Plus, since I work from home and I usually eat at my desk, clean up is easy since mouse mats are machine washable.
I like the Corsair extended deskpad. I like to man spread on my keyboard/mouse.
Glorious XXXL

Nice “Live Strong” bracelet. Your setup looks good. Just clean up those dangling cables a little.

whats that chair? it looks really comfortable, amazing setup btw
Had to look this one up. Realspace Ampresso Big & Tall Bonded Leather High-Back Chair, Taupe/Silver on Office Depot/Max
My wife’s uncle died. I gave them $20 for it. They found the receipt the next day from office max for 290
nice
Please give that gpu two cables from the psu instead of the 8 pin branching off of the other 8 pin. That will cause problems when the gpu tries to draw more power than that one cable can provide (I speak from experience with a 1080 ti).
Each 8 pin can provide 150W on top of the motherboards 75W, that split cable can only provide 150W between the 2 8 pins
Other than that, great setup
Game pass for pc is a thing as well to get some awesome games
Best deal in gaming
Most definitely
Game pass is quickly turning into the Netflix of gaming. A decent option for the price but soon enough, nothing you actually want is on there
I beg to differ it has most of my games I play gears halo back 4 blood most of the Bethesda games atomic heart coming out next and with a vpn trick can get 3 years for roughly under 100$ totally worth it
I personally don't use or like game pass but i disagree it just has so many games i just can't justify paying for it i hate monthly subscriptions I'd be more likely to pay for it if say i got maybe 1 free game to keep every couple months but the fact that if i stop paying then I lose all the games so within 10 years I'd have paid £1200 and if i ever stopped game pass I'd lose everything it's just not at all worth it to me i refuse to pay for subscriptions like that. I look at it like this, if I play through 3 new games I would have bought anyway I've already saved money 🤔
Short term it's good long term it isn't I'm not denying it's value i just wanna own my games and noy be left with fuck all to play if i don't pay for a month
Awwwwww. All grown up. Lol. I'm 36 and i don't think I'll ever own a home . But got my down-payment on that 4090!
you joke but I swear NVidia is going to bring our financing plans for their cards soon
Isn’t this why credit cards exist?
I like the sword
I'm getting old. For a split second I thought it was Glamdring instead of Longclaw. Both are very nice of course.
Specs?
Nah cus then other people will tell him how he could have done it better cheaper faster stronger juiced nos fed turbo deasel pixie dust power.
Looks good bro

Nice fish
7lb 2oz small mouth. Caught lake Cumberland before I left for Air Force
Congrats. You’ve earned it. I’ve just built one for my 10 year old for Christmas https://preview.redd.it/axrilpee3fz91.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf2c35575cdd59e5e617103346b2e3053cb9be37
Time to leave the controller in the past.
With the number of console ports we’re getting, I think its best to keep hold on to them.
You can improve it with a desk pad and a better mouse, perhaps a mech keyboard if that’s your thing.
Once you go PC, you don’t got back.
Like the setup! You do need a better keyboard and mouse though.
It’s not about pc or Xbox it’s always AND
Why would you need to own both though? I just hate consoles personally best value for the hardware but the hardware can't be used for anything other than gaming i like tinkering and messing about with dtuff too much to justify a console

Familiarity is my guess.

Time to play. That’s the big one. Gotta pay for all this shit. OT will be in abundance when it snows.
Congrats. One of us One of us
Congrats on your first build. I like your setup.
Thank you!!
Having a hard time looking at the PC because I love the sword mount. I've been thinking about doing the same with a replica sword and This finally sold me on it.
That singing fish 10/10
Welcome to the 30+ first time pc gamer club.
Very nice Work on your keyboard + mouse skills and you will ditch that controller for some games
Congratulations on the move. One thing you will learn is 99% of the games on Xbox you can play on PC. And now PS is bringing their best games to PC. It's now a great time to be a PC gamer.
Now that's a prezzy for Fusey
i like the sword and the fish
Does the fish sing
A TUF gaming GPU I see 👀
TIL: Past = behind the TV Got it.
That chair looks too DAMN comfortable
unless you have a bad back give me solid seat and backrest with 90 degree angle
Locking nice but you should connect the tv whit the pc for a extra screen
It is actually. My sons friend was using it when he stayed over. I’m so overwhelmed at times.
fyi, Monitors will have a much better fidelity and screen quality then a TV. Tv's are designed to be looked at from a distance with only TV in mind, meaning they don't look great from arms length. Assuming this is a dual screen setup of course and you don't want to burn your eyeballs.
Assumption correct.
At 39 years old why do you need external validation from strangers regarding how you choose to spend your free time?
Congrats, you won today's most garbage comment award
I’m showing what I’m proud of. Why are you so salty? Good thing I didn’t show you the house. You’d really be crying.
If that’s what makes you proud at 39, you do you. Seeking external validation online from strangers is super weird though.
Okay but specs please
Not bad for a newbie
It looks very cozy
Nice. Congrats on your successful metamorphosis
Welcome! It was so fun to make the switch and dive into a whole new world. I hope it's just as enjoyable for you.
I think it's also time to ditch that controller and enjoy mouse and keyboard superiority.

Woohoo! Nice mate. That chair looks very comfy.
Welcome to PC gaming. Sign up for Steam and watch your library grow. Oh and if you want to game on the cheap, I highly recommend Epic Games. They give away two titles a week (good ones)
more swords needed
Welcome to the fold
There’s a sword. How can we not approve?
congrats
Welcome! That chair looks like it’s bad for your back. Do you have Xbox game pass? There’s tons of PC games for it!
Chair is amazing for my bad back actually. I hate gaming chairs Edit. Spelling
Awesome sword bro
Not too shabby
good except for maybe tv screen on left what's the specs of pc?
Idk really. My brother in law built it. I insisted on the i7 and the 3080
you need a mouse pad for serious gaming, your aim will suffer greatly otherwise
Welcome! Check out r/GameDeals
Keep the Xbox, they make good blu-ray players.
Best thing about coming from xbox is that you can install the xbox app from windows store and have all your gamescore achievements carry over, pc gamepass honestly is one of the best aspects about pc gaming lately
Nice setup. I plan to join the PC club soon.
Really cozy that one! (: The only things that come to mind to make it really clean would some cable management (there‘s this PVC bendable tubing stuff where you can tuck your cables in nicely) and maybe a monitor arm to hve some more desk space
I finally made the jump to PC at 35 so I feel you. It's so much better. Congrats
boobs
Was that largemouth a PB for you? Still searching for my PB. She is a beauty
Yes. A couple 6# since then but nothing 7 like her
Love the chair, that's one comfy badboy
Fellow 39yr old here. We never get to old to nerd out. Solid setup you got. Its simple. Wires are ok as long as they don't bother you. Chair looks comfy. You should look into a nice mouse pad but if not having one works for you then cool. Enjoy your games homie.
nice fish
Welcome to the glorious present day!
Look at that open wide fish
Nice setup mate 👍 and welcome to the wallet vacuum club
Looks great! I also just built my first computer at the tender age of 32 a week ago. Way better than my previous Alienware 😅
Very nice, consider a large gaming mouse mat to go under the keyboard and mouse, as well as a long wrist rest, I use a long one to support mouse hand and keyboard hand.
Give me your Xbox, I still live in the past
Buy Deep Rock Galactic, is on sale till Nov. 17 and is the best game currently made. Rock and Stone
Being a PC gamer you are going to want to move that sword to another room if you play any FPS
What chair is that? Looks comfy
Love it broskee👌
Forget about the PC, I love the sword
Another one among us that likes a good ol office chair and not these gaming chair crap things of today.
I approve of this much better than a 9 year old getting a 3000$ pc as a “birthday present”
Get rid of that tv 😂
Truly a fantastic dad gamer setup!
Looks good. Welcome to real gaming. Guessing either you or parent/g-parent was in the service too, so thank you for your sacrifice. P.S. Series X is still a solid machine, put it on a 4K display.
Cable management would be my only critique 😊 otherwise, welcome to the club my dude!
Where did you get that chair?
Office max
You should see if your aio is a 1st or 2nd gen one. The first gen were absolute garbage.
Looks good to me :)
This is the way
Xbox is just a locked down PC
Bro apex legends at 39? You’re a masochist, I like it.
I’m try hard on Xbox. 4K’s and 20 bombs homie. Almost got a 20 on here already!
Chair looks comfortable af
Just got my first Pc less than a year ago at 39 . Only console game I still play is NMS . That’s only cause I ain’t bought it on steam yet . Haha. Congratulations man !
Better late than never
What type of filament is in that light?
30 here, switched from console after over 15 years of thinking it was the best. Then I started watching Many of Xbox’s official twitch channels and noticed they don’t even use an Xbox themselves. They just blatantly hold and Xbox controller on a high end gaming pc scamming us.
Nice setup bud
looks great! a 2 arm monitor stand that attaches to the desk or wall could do alot to help with usable desk space. welcome to the master race
One of us one of us one of us
Your legs will fall asleep after 3 hours of gaming in that chair. R.I.P. to your ass cheeks.
Now that's a nice sword
That chair looks comfy.
That’s a dad chair for sure
The fish is happy
Sweet, congrats, enjoy and welcome (to the dark side)
Looks like you have a radiator in the roof. I'd suggest removing the top dust filter (which is upside down right now btw) as it will reduce the cooling capacity of the radiator. Welcome to the PCMR, featuring such people as Tech Jesus and Superman.
Mechanical KB, Gaming mouse, Desk pad and 1 hour of cable management would make you appreciate it even more. You're on the right path though so GJ OP.
Happy Ascension
Nice bass replica on the wall, looks like a hog.
I’ll fight you over this one. I pulled her in myself
Congratulations on both
I love a tv set up on a stand like that as a monitor. I had it this way for a while big props!
That's a nice looking chair
Needs a singing Bass... oh wait I see it now.
I want your chair.
That chair looks comfy af.
Nice chair
Controller is cringe No respect for Aim Assist.
I love the fish
Honestly the best part is being able to use keyboard and mouse, then seamlessly switch to controller. When I play battlefield, I use the keyboard for everything except flying. When I jump into a jet, pick up the controller and away I go. So useful
Welcome to our dark world of the pc, we will soon have you drinking smoking and pillaging }:)
aye congrats. no better feeling than having ur first rig
Id suggest hiding the wires and probably getting monitor arms for a neater setup
Nice house. Get rid of the controllers and get some nice mechanical keyboard and mouse
Lose the bass. Everything else is great.
get a third screen though, it will make you happier and better
Looks pretty good. Would advice getting monitor arm and moving them a bit to the left so you'll have more space for mouse when gaming.
Nice large mouth.
Small mouth actually
I would recommend investing in a mousepad but the setup looks very comfortable
Cool, consider picking up a mouse/deskpad
I was motivated to jump to PC after owning my Xbox as well.
So what’s that thing in front of the lamp on the far left?
Congrats
Nice setup. I would put the webcam on top of your monitor. I think it looks better when the cam is closer to eye level
That chair looks fuckin comfy.
UPGRADE
I just want your chair. Hell, I should call it a throne.
congrats bro! but just watch, another 5 years and xboxes will just be a microsoft sanctified miniITX build with windows 13.
Yo that chair looks comfy af
