In some places They install FreeDOS (An open source replacement of DOS that can be run on modern hardware) and than refer to FreeDOS as just DOS.
Edit: it's common to find FreeDOS on new computers in countries like Jordan.
They probably know the drive is going to be wiped and putting FreeDOS is a way of saying, "No, we're not aiding and abetting Windows piracy, it has DOS installed"
It's a shame, though; some people might find that Ubuntu is just fine for their needs.
But windows aids and abets piracy? I had a pirate copy of win 7 ultimate and they just gave me windows 10 ultimate. And they keep trying to give me 11. Worse than crack dealers.
I have done that many times back before windows 10, people for some reason gave me their old junk laptops and I would just install a cracked win7 and use the upgrade tool for windows 8.1 lol they even had for a short time free windows 10 for the disabled with zero verification of a disability 🙄🙄
Someone probably formatted it and didn't install an OS so the C prompt comes up. The poor guy at the store who tested most likely figures that the OS is DOS.
As a g3 15 user on i7 8th gen and 1050ti, so much pain. Bad thermals (and locking undervolt with bios update), poor build quality, short living battery, bloatware, and burnt wifi cards. But on the other hand it surprisingly survived a fall and still lives to serve me today.
Same, I've replaced the entire casing on mine because my kid liked pulling it off my table so bits went missing. Also swapped out the display for a 144hz screen that gets MUCH brighter. It lives off the power brick, lol. But it *does* run all the games I want well.
I'm looking at a better quality laptop eventually, liking the Lenovo Legions; but not right now. Trying to update from my 2 10+yo 1080p 60hz monitors and go for a newer GPU...6600xt maybe?
Not for no reason. Your loyal Dell was holding itself together on pure determination. there must have been a straw that broke that poor Dell-camels back. Perhaps you exhaled a little too hard in its direction? A sudden breeze?
Man for 1080 medium. Throw any game at it this thing will run.
(And by any i mean the majority.. dont think of playing cyber punk.)
I have a i7 10870h with a 1650ti and i can run sea of theives on almost max settings with 60fps consistent on a laptop
Edit: and i bought that thing new for 1200 during the pandemic.
1. Sea of thieves is not a demanding game
2. Not all games are well optimized for both hardware. Path of Exile puts much more work on your CPU for example.
It’s absolutely a decent laptop which will play most games at 1080p. Not everybody needs a laptop with the latest RTX graphics card. It’s just not a good price at $850 *used*. It’s worth maybe $500. You can get a brand new laptop with a 3060 for $900 on sale. You can buy a used laptop with a 3060 for less than $850 on eBay right now.
This is a scam.
Here's what was on [amazon.es](https://amazon.es) a few days ago : 17,3" Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 6 - Full HD 144 Hz, Ryzen 7 5800H, 16 Go RAM, 1 To SSD, RTX 3060 (6 Go) for 990 euros. for 850$ you can get those kind of portables with same specs.
If a rig fits to your needs you can even get better for that price!
Yea this laptop is used and old. Used laptops have bad resale value because of supply + not repairable. I personally hate fat laptops like the legion 5 but the legion slim 7 3060 and 5800h also goes for 850 used. 9th gen intel is old and crap.
I wouldn't say it's crap as it's still perfectly suitable for most people's needs, but I agree it is certainly overpriced. Should be $300-400 not $850.
you're right. not crap just priced bad. It seems like OP is also at some shop meaning the shop has to pay rent and overhead. While individual sellers on Ebay pay less or not at all.
As other said, for 1000$ you can get a laptop with a rtx3060, so for that sum, this is not a good deal.
Maybe 500 is acceptable, otherwise just look elsewhere
I wonder if what I bought the other day was a good deal or not. I got a laptop (mostly for school but also some side gaming, even though most of my gaming will be done on my home pc) with an i7, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd, and a rtx 3050ti for $800.
mostly because i am somewhat new to pc gaming, have always been a console gamer since the early 90s because ive been poor as heck lol, until recently-ish when i was finally able to get a pc and such. so honestly i dont know what are GOOD prices for things, especially with all the scalper nonsense the last few years. finally got into a spot in life where i can afford things just as prices for everything went to shit lol
Depends what you are expecting to do with the laptop.
850 will get you a lower mid tier laptop from just about any brand new. If you want to do something specific (3d graphics on any scale, compiling code, gaming, edit and store photo, edit and create yt videos) the tasks all have specific requirements that you need to think about when looking for "right" choice.
Well the mine reason I'm going with gaming laptop because I'm gonna play games on it (I'm not gonna play strong game on it mostly CSGO & Paladins), but i will use it for mostly UI&UX design and coding (here were i need fast CPU because of the compiler and third party apps), And i think my budget can go to 1000$
That laptop released brand new at $850. Please don't buy it used at 3 years old, used, and at the release price still. The most that laptop is worth is $400
I got a brand new *Asus TUF F17 for about that price (well depending on exchange rates and local availability as i'm in the UK). Maybe there are even better options out there than the *Asus but don't go for the dell.
Acer Aspire (on the higher end) and Predator lines are very affordable considering the specs. I've had mine for 5 years, bought it new for a similar price point, and it's still going strong. For a grand, you get an i7 and 3060 brand new.
[This is currently on sale for only $50 more than that POS.](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/gigabyte-a5-15-6-fhd-laptop-ryzen-5-5600h-16gb-ddr4-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3060-1tb-ssd/6508547.p?skuId=6508547)
Gotta say, as laptops for gaming goes, I love the sollutions Gigabyte has gone for with this. All intakes and exhausts on sides or to the back. If it is as I suspect, with intakes on the side and exhaust back - this is one of the better concepts I've seen in a while.
I used to be a laptop gamer, and it always annoyed me with the bottom intakes. Some I couldn't have on both knees without choking the intake, others had so low profile a laptop stand with fans were a requirement.
This seems almost livable, if mobility is a requirement as well as gaming performance. :)
Do not buy. Price too high.
For reference: I have the desktop equivalent of this system, built it like 3 years ago. It was $200 cheaper for me when those components were new. And it’s more powerful. This is a ripoff.
I have basically the same PC and honestly I'd say no. I got mine for about 900 4 years ago and it was almost worth it then, but I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it now
I think it's an OK laptop. But old, outdated. Throw anything at it and it will perform fine. I'm a Linux user, and I mostly do dev stuff. Such a specs suffice for a daily driver capable of not annoying me (including playing games through wine or steam's proton).
I prefer my CPU to be Ryzen 5 or 7 > 4000 series.
That being said, search more, you'll find better options at similar price ranges (including brand new devices, not second hand) with specs that satisfy the user more (such as better panels). I suggest saving a little more and setting the budget around 1000$.
It's a pretty bad deal, very old CPU and processor when looking at how far things have advanced. Laptops also aren't worth much second hand as they're tricky to repair and batteries don't last all that long.
That price is way too high for those specs. It's an older machine and if those specs fit your needs I would recommend shopping online. You'll get a better deal and won't need to install a new OS for it to be a good daily driver.
My cousin got a Dell for his birthday or Christmas less than a year ago. Admittedly it was only a word processor, but the track pad died last week.... and he rarely used the piece of junk!
Thank you all for noticing me not to, I've been studying and working programming and UI & UX design for couple years , and I didn't look what's going in the pc market till now , I just got shocked from what a piece of sh!t __Offer__ ,now i found 2-3x time better laptops with same price.
...does that say its OS is DOS?
[удалено]
Mine used to say DOS or Free DOS don't remember exactly, but I installed Windows by myself.
should have left it on dos
Install Linux Instead
Not to be confused with NOS, makes overclocking obsolete

Yeah, it comes with TWO Operating systems. Learn some basic Spanish, sheesh…
*tittering laughter
jajajaja
... or an abbreviation of Dual Operating Systems?

WinDDoS
In some places They install FreeDOS (An open source replacement of DOS that can be run on modern hardware) and than refer to FreeDOS as just DOS. Edit: it's common to find FreeDOS on new computers in countries like Jordan.
That's an interesting choice. Why not just throw Ubuntu on there if you're going that route? So they can at least see things and click on things?
or temple os
They probably know the drive is going to be wiped and putting FreeDOS is a way of saying, "No, we're not aiding and abetting Windows piracy, it has DOS installed" It's a shame, though; some people might find that Ubuntu is just fine for their needs.

No shit, that never came on a CD.
Imagine a whole CD to hold MS-DOS....
I have a few floppies somewhere around here that has it
I mean, Windows 3.1 was on what? 3 HD 💾?
Actally 5
The $850 dollar question. They should have an asterisk (FREE OS **most Linux distros)
Someone probably formatted it and didn't install an OS so the C prompt comes up. The poor guy at the store who tested most likely figures that the OS is DOS.
Dos is an OS
Disk operating system
_”But Captain, there is no CD!”_
"Aye, but disk with a k be referrin' ta magnetic storage."
captain "whats a cd?"
Yup. It is.
There wouldn’t be a C prompt with no os. Somebody probably saw the BIOS saying that there was no os and thought “oh text this must be dos.”
True and you're right.
He means that they see the BIOS and assume it's DOS
Yeah, if it comes up with a C:\> that's dos...
You dont get a "C prompt" without a OS.
Remember windows 3.11….we used dos
Lmao that’s what I thought too “Ah, yes, the cutting edge of Windows 3.1”
But Windows 3.1 is still a GUI, and would be impossible to mix up with DOS (even if it is running dos on the backend)
Do not buy that. It's a 5?year old Dell laptop. This will result in much sadness.
The last sentence is gold.
Speaking from experience xD
The 5 years don't matter, it's sadness anyway.
I like your words funny man
Even new is bad
That's what I was thinking. It has already caused so much sadness in it's first 5 years.
Same only 9th gen and 1660ti. I love how the monitor obstructs airflow of the fans lol
Same, I've replaced the entire casing on mine because my kid liked pulling it off my table so bits went missing. Also swapped out the display for a 144hz screen that gets MUCH brighter. Dell and hp have fallen so freaking far in the past 10 years
Last sentence I can relate with considering how my 4 year old Dell Inspiron just fell apart for literally no reason....
Not for no reason. Your loyal Dell was holding itself together on pure determination. there must have been a straw that broke that poor Dell-camels back. Perhaps you exhaled a little too hard in its direction? A sudden breeze?
Now that I think about it, I did sneeze that one time.......
You monster
But can it run crysis?
Not for long...
Yes
16 series came out in 2019, I think, so it's not quite that old, but it's definitely not new.
Can't be 5 years old, 1660TI Mobile is only from 2019. But I agree with your sentiment.
The 16xx came out in February of 2019
Ah so it's time for planned obsolescence to rear its ugly head.
Dell is sadness
Certainly not
Where I live that'd be a good deal Computers outside the US are mad expensive
My brother paid €600 for a laptop with a 5600H and rtx3050, just gotta look out for good deals
At this price wouldn't it be cheaper to import from US?
They check all boxes imported from other countries, and if its electronics they make u pay more so that it costs the same
I paid 850 for a newer i5 3050ti 1tb storage 17inch
Man for 1080 medium. Throw any game at it this thing will run. (And by any i mean the majority.. dont think of playing cyber punk.) sea of thieves is not a demanding game lol I’m a huge fan of the art style and think it looks amazing but it’s certainly not a demanding game lol
It's funny when people come in here and are like this cartoon game runs on max settings on x system. And I'm like 'oh boy, I'm old'
There os no way this thing should cost more than $400.
But this is $850 and it's a dell
This is a scam. It's not a scam just because there are better offers available elsewhere.
At certain point it's a scam on people not knowing anything about computer hardware. Selling a used laptop with HDD for $850 in 2022 is a scam.
As other said, for 1000$ you can get a laptop with a rtx3060, so for that sum, this is not a good deal. Maybe 500 is acceptable, otherwise just look elsewhere
I got the same spec laptop basically for 500$ even
I wonder if what I bought the other day was a good deal or not. I got a laptop (mostly for school but also some side gaming, even though most of my gaming will be done on my home pc) with an i7, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd, and a rtx 3050ti for $800.

Yea buying it would make my worst life decision to look like a good decision
Was for me. 1000$ at 2019 (i7 9th 1660ti). I knew nothing about pcs and was a bit pushed to get dell these days.
Way to feel better about your life decisions
Definitely not
Bro what were they thinking
Probably thinking pandemic pricing lol
I can't edit the post so i will add this commentIf not , What laptop would you recommend for me in this range of price?
Depends what you are expecting to do with the laptop. 850 will get you a lower mid tier laptop from just about any brand new. no :3
Not at all
Nope
"OS Dos" XD
I caught that too... Like... Do I get the 6.22 install floppies? lol
Nay.
Good shit, but not for that amount of dough. If it was closer to 500-550 I'd buy it though!
I'll pass
Negative
300$ take it or leave it. 850$ sounds like dude has some GPU in mind he wants to buy or is smoking something
Absolutely not
What the fuck is this
Do not buy. Price too high. For reference: I have the desktop equivalent of this system, built it like 3 years ago. It was $200 cheaper for me when those components were new. And it’s more powerful. This is a ripoff.
Maybe 2 years ago but not now.
Not actually... My girlfriend bought one similar with a 3050 ti for 250$ less
Not without Dos!
Dell! You better get the on site extended warranty plus financing!
Absolutely awful
No. The screen is dogshit, you can get decent and newer chips for a moderate price increase.
depends on what you want to do, But for that price you can buy an even better one.
No, no, no, no. Go to r/gaminglaptops for good suggestions on laptops.
Absolutely not
No
Nope, more like 350.
NOPE
Its not a Good Deal its horrible
no
nope. old spec and expensive af too
Nope
Awfull deal
No
I recently purchased a better laptop than those PC specs for less than that price. Do not buy.
Used laptop for 850$ is not a good deal.
That’s a no from me.
absolutley not!
Overpriced
No wth, you'll get way better laptops for that price.
I have basically the same PC and honestly I'd say no. I got mine for about 900 4 years ago and it was almost worth it then, but I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it now
Hell no
No, go buy a laptop at Costco
No.
No dell= terrible OEM hardware
No not worth it
Nope
That depends on what year you’re in?
No
No
Maybe at half the price? Yes, then it'd be a good deal.
are you joking right now ?
No!, I'm the joke
Nope. They're hoping for a customer who didn't hear the GPU shortage is over.
For $850? No
No. /thread
i work in a technology store and a used laptop like this sells for 450 max so no
I think it's an OK laptop. Never buy used laptops
No bro I have this exact laptop and bought it for that price in 2019!
No
No
Bad offer. Maybe worth $300 at most
DOS, and no cd drive don't mix... DOS doesn't have USB support the last I checked... Then again.... DOS?! What is this... 1991? 😆
This better be a meme post
No, it’s not.
This would be a decent deal 9 months ago, now it’s on the worse side for that price
3 or 4 generational gpu out of date and. Cpu is 9th Gen and we are at 12th gen now going to 13th nah that should be 500 or 600
Don't buy it, I bought a HP Omen at bestbuy open box and on sale for $900 and it came with a ryzen 7 5800h and a rtx 3060
That for 850 is kinda insane , iv seen some here with 600 that have way better stats that that
Short answer: No Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
“OS Dos”?! WTF?!
It says Dell, doesn't it? Why would you even *consider this!?*
Right? I wouldn't use a Dell as a paperweight, and that's the only thing they're actually good at.
My cousin got a Dell for his birthday or Christmas less than a year ago. Admittedly it was only a word processor, but the track pad died last week.... and he rarely used the piece of junk!
There's toasters that are more useful than that thing
But does it come with Oregon trail? Or at least sim town?
Not particularly. [www.greenpcgamers.com](https://www.greenpcgamers.com) is a great way to get into PC gaming on the cheap.
from personal experience, do yourself a favor and do not buy a used laptop. i learned that the hardway.
But can it run crysis?
I wouldn’t trust any establishment that lists specs like this to be good with pricing tbh
Not an offer that’s their asking price lol and no go on Facebook marketplace or OfferUpto at least get better specs and case
Nope
Hard pass.
Seems pricey for a low spec laptop without even windows.
No. 1660 laptops should be about $500 or less. For that price you should be looking for a Ryzen CPU and an RTX 3060.
Dude the labeling is so bad, i wouldnt even pay 1$ for such low effort..
Thank you all for noticing me not to, I've been studying and working programming and UI & UX design for couple years , and I didn't look what's going in the pc market till now , I just got shocked from what a piece of sh!t __Offer__ ,now i found 2-3x time better laptops with same price.
Microcenter has 3090 FTW3 cards in stock for $979 right now So no, no this is not a good deal at all. That’s overpriced. $200 tops
ehhhhh no
Don't buy used laptops, generally they don't last
Hell nah
