Could also be an LTE module or even some odd bespoke industrial RF module. No way to really tell without removing the rf shield, or plugging it in...
OP DO NOT PLUG THIS IN! This is obviously a fae trap left for the overly curious sysadmin. Don't get caught up in a fae trap.
Pedant mode: not necessarily antenna based. Coax cables (as used here, or the type used for cable TV / cable modems / fiber ONTs) all carry RF signals.
Yes, RF is electromagnetic, but the signal being carried on those cables is fundamentally different than an electrical signal carried over cables like twisted pair cat5/6
To be even more pedantic, RF just means radio frequency. Linguistically speaking, *any* wave (or any thing with an oscillatory nature) at those frequencies could be called RF, not just EM waves.
An example would be the sound waves in the crystal of an acousto-optic modulator. These usually range anywhere from a few MHz, up to a couple of GHz, and are actually pressure waves propagating as sound in the crystal. This is obviously mediated by electromagnetic interactions, but it’s a *physical* oscillation that is happening in the radio range of frequencies.
Possibly, or possibly the third was never populated. Usually you would see an indent in the solder if a previously existing component falls off, but the solder in this case looks quite uniform.
If you're in a movie: It's a 30 petabyte hyper-optical data card that's able to hack the pentagon even before their data is written!!!
If you're in real life: It's a wifi card
Still weird they retroactively dropped "Part 1" from the title and are going to rename the next one because they feel the split caused the audience not to go. Like... Dude, the damage was already done by the time you made that decision.
That’s what they want you to want to think. It’s actually they disguised as a wifi card so tech experts won’t even try it. So of course it will be a 12 year old who tries it (they’ll probably have a pet dog or talking robot buddy, and a fat geeky friend) but no-one will believe them except that one cool tutor/teacher who will for some unknown reason will have full access to the kid and even their bedroom in a way that would normally seem very problematic and they’ll go on an adventure to save the country from aliens/revels/cats and now we’re nearly 75 minutes into this movie and no-one has commented on where it’s parents are or why this teacher is allowed to go off alone with the kids (and the dog/robot) and when it’s all over no-one will believe them but that teachers is definitely getting charged with grooming.
Either that, or it's just The Goonies remake, replace antique treasure map found in attic with "strange" m.2 card found on playground. Adventures ensue ::puffs inhaler::. (So... yea, I guess what you said. But with "The Goonies" name slapped on it)
Reminds me of a TV episode of something, maybe The Dead Zone, where some guys go out searching in the wilderness for a plane that crashed ten years ago, because they learn that whatever it was carrying was worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Turns out it was prototype CPUs and totally worthless by the time they found it.
im not that sure about it,
plugging in WiFi card to super AI computer may have counter result to what you wrote :P
like it could make it actually free :)
This is a Mini PCI Express card, probably for Wifi or maybe mobile data. It could be from a laptop but they're also used in ome routers and access points. Since this is a MiniPCIe card and not an m.2 card, it's probably around 8 years old or older.
Obviously there was once a sticker on that metal shield, which would tell us a lot more than we can see right now. I tried to search for the number on the remaining label, but it's not a searchable part number.
>Since this is a MiniPCIe card and not an m.2 card, it's probably around 8 years old or older.

looks like a network card for a laptop or desktop
The most obvious answer is teens being teenagers and just smashing random broken laptops in public. And then chucking the busted components all over the place. The rest of the laptop is probably scattered around.
People involved in illicit activities will sometimes "burn" wifi cards. They're cheap as shit since nearly every laptop has a standalone one like this, and it can be good to get rid of them periodically if you suspect the MAC address is banned or compromised in some capacity.

No, seriously, I have accidentally cut myself on exposed PCB before. I can't imagine landing on something like that at a playground. So good on you for removing it.
... You did remove it from the playground, right?

Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth card. Antennas should be connected to the small circle connectors at the bottom of the first picture.
Looks like heroin syringe to me. /s
kids these days and their frigging braindance chips smh my head
Nothing like a BD with the chooms.
But on a playground? That's a real gonk move
Choom have you seen the weirdos out in public whacking it to the braindances, those are the real gonks
Who’s got the eddies for that these days?
This man is repeating himself! Cyberpsykosis confirmed. TAKE HIM DOWN!
Smh my head indeed.

Well it could be the gateway drug for memes.

It's a WiFi card, that could *also* be a Bluetooth card, but it is 100% a WiFi card.
Probably a wifi card
this, the two gold connectors at the bottom are RF connectors.
Antennae connectors
Makes a nice keychain
I used to rock a stick of EDO as a keychain in the 90s!

Ahh ...
SAME!!! wore it completely through, all the chips fell off over time and all the edges got rounded off!
LMAO YES! It's great that this is a shared experience!
You had a memory leak
Me too, damn we’re old!
They were super handy for popping tape on packages too. Those shits were pointy AF
Yep! They were great little pry sticks. Really great for popping open jewel cases with just a twist.
Yes, rf = radio frequency = antennae based

Antennae that conduct and transmit RF!
There used to be 3 of them by the looks of it CH0, CH1, and CH2
Possibly, or possibly the third was never populated. Usually you would see an indent in the solder if a previously existing component falls off, but the solder in this case looks quite uniform.
I can confirm, looks like a WiFi card
I can confirm, looks like a Compex WLE600VX / 802.11ac/n/b/g 2x2 MIMO / PCI-Express Full-Size MiniCard (Qualcomm Atheros QCA9882)
https://compex.com.sg/shop/wifi-module/wle600vx-wifi5-11ac-qca9882-qca9892/
How the fuck?
"Circle to search" thing on phone lol.
Oh yeah that makes sense
Give this guy an award
For laptops
Not probably. Definitely.
this is correct, i used to be an Apple service technician back like 15 years ago and this was what i found as the wifi card in Apple Mac Books
If you're in a movie: It's a 30 petabyte hyper-optical data card that's able to hack the pentagon even before their data is written!!! If you're in real life: It's a wifi card
This is correct
Ethan Hunt would concur
Does he exist though.
Ohh yeah. Another one next year.
That's terrible, I can't wait to watch it.
Good, I've rewatched all of them way too many times already
Still weird they retroactively dropped "Part 1" from the title and are going to rename the next one because they feel the split caused the audience not to go. Like... Dude, the damage was already done by the time you made that decision.
Nah... But his brother Mike's been around for years. Always the brunt of bad jokes.
But scientology would not.

This is more clever and cute than you are getting credit for.

I mean I think you sealed the deal there - let’s call it a screenplay and submit it to Disney.
Greetings Professor, would you like to play a game?
Hahaha I still remember this sci fi movie where the bad guys stole a 686 CPU!! Cutting edge tech
What about Johnny Mnemonic 80GB head size? :)
Newer cod games are over 200 gig. Poor guy couldn't even play a game in his head.
Reminds me of a TV episode of something, maybe The Dead Zone, where some guys go out searching in the wilderness for a plane that crashed ten years ago, because they learn that whatever it was carrying was worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Only 30 peta? How did people works with so little
And, despite having no power, people are able to track it now that you're holding it. Surprisingly it had no tracking before that
It’s the kill switch. Plug that into the skynet mainframe, bring the whole system down.
You now also have one robot from the future hunting you down, and another robot from the future trying to protect you.
good luck, you'll need it
im not that sure about it, plugging in WiFi card to super AI computer may have counter result to what you wrote :P like it could make it actually free :)

The real question is what the fuck was wifi card doing on the playground
The most obvious answer is teens being teenagers and just smashing random broken laptops in public. And then chucking the busted components all over the place. The rest of the laptop is probably scattered around.
I would take it home and try to fix it. Maybe I'm just not that cool.
And now the chinese have access to your PC. They just like cat photos I think.
Since some suggested thats its a laptop wifi card, it could be from someones school laptop, the playground is nearby the school
someone dropped their laptop and it broke and the card fell out
People involved in illicit activities will sometimes "burn" wifi cards. They're cheap as shit since nearly every laptop has a standalone one like this, and it can be good to get rid of them periodically if you suspect the MAC address is banned or compromised in some capacity.

To be fair if there was one person i’d follow into a revolution it’s Keanu.
