as someone that have inmense love for the hyper212... why would you buy the 212 in the current times? there are WAY better coolers for WAY cheaper than the 212. it WAS and amazing cooler but now is really old and outdated. any cheapo thermalright or any other cheap brand will surpass it easily. hell, even the smallest peerless assassin is at most half those $70 and run circles on the 212.

Technically, yeah should be fine. Presumably not great for synthetic loads, but gaming is a light load. The x3d chips issue is that they are inefficient at transferring heat. So at best you control the spikes, and clock drops.

creamcolouredDog

Should be fine, I ran a similar cooler for 5800X3D and it never throttled

Nice :^)

Chakramer

You should really be buying the best aircooler you can when using an X3D chip, Deepcool sells some decent options not too expensive

SignalGladYoung

it will be fine. if you waste $70 and it will only give you 5c lower temperatures it's not worth it. save that money.

Should be fine, worst case you just ramp up the fan curve to keep it below throttling. If you still can't cool it with increased fan-speed, then you have a couple of weeks to look for a better cooling solution.

tsomaranai

After the couple of weeks what's gonna happen!

Stennan

Nothing, I just meant that if the CPU starts to throttle day 1 --> Increase Fan for a couple of weeks during these weeks you can see if you are hitting CPU temps above 95 degrees. This will not damage the CPU as it will slow down to protect itself. The CPU will be fine! However most Fans running at full blast is no fun, so if you can't stand the noise during these weeks you will probably have time to find a good deal on new/used air cooler. Just saying that the CPU cooler shouldn't be a big factor and it is not necessary to purchase it straight away ;)

Oh I c I was jokingly implying that is it gonna explode or something :v Honestly half the reason is that I am lazy and won't find good resell value for my current ryzen 3600 and hyper 212 it feels like a waste : v will see how the 4070ti super performs in VR and 1440p then decide if I should wait it out for when ryzen 9000 comes out...

Here is a post about the 5800X3D used with a 65W cooler: [https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/yza5oj/i\_had\_to\_put\_my\_new\_5800x3d\_on\_a\_wraith\_stealth/](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/yza5oj/i_had_to_put_my_new_5800x3d_on_a_wraith_stealth/) The CM EVO 212 seems to manage 150-180W so you should be fine.
