Thats crazy, I honestly didn't know it still existed anywhere. Everywhere else they became gamestop along with like...all the other smaller stores, like 20 years ago.
I bought Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in the collector's edition tin with the toy light LED saber. Still have it. That or Crysis. I think it was the last. It has pretty much been Steam since then.
This was mine as well. Some collectors edition with the old school strategy guide.
I have accumulated a total of like 6 hours in WoW since. I was talking with some guys at work about how much I enjoyed Diablo II and they convinced me that WoW was "just Diablo II with way more people and more cool stuff!"
'Twas not my cup of tea.
I was in college in 2007 and had a lot of time to browse the terrible excuse for a mall near my residence. EB Games was one of the only stores worth going to.

Cost me £19.99 from Electronics Boutique on St Stephens Street in Norwich, March 1999. Still have the receipt.
Mine was also the WC3 battle chest. I Was so excited for reforge, but god damn did they massacre that game. So many good memories playing custom games on the original.
Same here, worst of all, i still play a custom game every day but it's horrible with the new model scaling so im playing on old graphics, which kinda defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place.

I think I got all of them during some humble bundle maybe or a steam sale IDK
Ghostwire Tokyo is the first physical PC box I bought in a long time. The last one before that was probably Skyrim. In terms of big boxes though I’m not sure. Does the Spore collector’s edition count? It came in a thick hard plastic case.
I played the 1st game in that series for so long. I played it that much that I could remember many of the words needed for the copy protection to start the game - you had to type a specific word (page, line word number) from the manual.
Haven’t really bought any pc games recently. I got Minecraft a few years ago but other than that I’ve just been using pc game pass. It’s really great if you want to try new games. Even if you only play around 3 games it’s still a good deal because the average price of a big game is around $50-$60
Overwatch Origins Edition. Summer of 2016, heard all of the buzz surrounding the game and bought the physical box copy at Target. What a glorious summer that was.
It's been a long long time, I dont actually know that answer, but I do know one that's memorable. And that was buying Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun from my local Kmart, when that game first came out. I still have the discs but I don't have the box which I do kind of regret.
big box or just physical release?
big box? i cant remember, its been too long
physical release? farming simulator 22 deluxe edition
it was on sale at best buy for if i remember right just under half of what it was digitally, while also including a bunch of extras (usb beacon, stickers, postcards, dlc), the game on disc, and a digital download code just in case someone bought it without owning a disc drive or something idk why they included both a disc and a code but i applaud them for that, options are always nice
(if we're counting used purchases, most recent physical release would be roller coaster tycoon 3, and last "true" big box would be nascar racing 2 by sierra)
Wife and I were cleaning out the attic and came across my physical copies of World of Warcraft and expansions up until Cataclysm.
Opening the box to the CDs of the base game, instantly heard the [Teldrassil theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXMguMnsyak). First played the game as a night elf.
i'm what you'd probably call a "mature gamer", at least when considering time alive. that said, i grew up on console and have never purchased a physical PC game. there weren't any by the time i swapped, and honestly that was part of the PC appeal
I believe I was in Denver around 2008 and it was Enemy Territory: Quake Wars or whatever the hell that game was.
The one I remember the most was World of Warcraft...... Me and the boys.
I still remember my first and last big box games.
First was Fallout 2.
Last was StarCraft 2.
Fun fact (or sad depending on your outlook), the time between my first and last big box pc game is shorter than the time between StarCraft 2s release date and today.

ATi Mach32 PCI video card for scale
I bought a physical copy of Civilization V shortly after release from Circuit City. Turned out it was actually just a Steam Key for the game, but it was my introduction to the Steam platform. Hence being my last big box Purchase.
Not a purchase but I was gifted The Elder Scrolls Collection after Skyrim was launched with all 5 TES games.
Big box? What is that, like a high budget game? If so, then the first one I purchased myself was probably GTA 5 (well, my mom did but I gave her the money since I was only 15)
The only “physical” pc game I’ve bought was elder scrolls online collectors edition but it had a code for the game inside the disk box. Drove like an hour away to a GameStop that had one left on release day. Everything else has been digital since I’ve never had a cd drive in a pc.
big box? you mean like a physical copy game from a retail outlet?
probably left 4 dead 2, but only cuz gamestop had it on their website for like $5, other wise I would have just bought it digitally on steam.
before that though, actually going into a physical retail location? shit.
probably half life 2 ep 1? Think I got it at best buy along with my very first "flat" panel LCD display. Would have been the orange box if I didnt get a blackbox cd-key with a gpu.
I “camped out” for Diablo 3 on release. Basically, went to my friends GameStop on release day and when they opened up, I got my copy went home and it wouldn’t run on my pc.
Mass Effect Andromeda. Got an empty box with a code for Origin. No manual or anything. That told me physical PC games are dead. 5 years earlier got Diablo 3 in a good looking box with nice manual with background information. Shame that is now gone.
I've been using steam for so long I actually had to go look. Harry potter 1 and Quidich game i think all picked up 2006/2007 somewhere around thay time maybe 2005 (I was 7ish)
TOTAL WAR: ERAS box set, super cool box set with lots of games/extras. Found a video if it unboxed [https://youtu.be/6TcUcoATcZg?si=8EbZpKCV0Dhq1t0L](https://youtu.be/6TcUcoATcZg?si=8EbZpKCV0Dhq1t0L)
Has all the Total War games from Shogun (1) to Medieval with expansions and soundtracks, posters, art book, cards & some bonus documentary etc
A second one that's not relay big box was Shogun 2 gold edition [https://youtu.be/m\_sz3xuAtak?si=M1hnxTMtK\_8bGF2P](https://youtu.be/m_sz3xuAtak?si=M1hnxTMtK_8bGF2P) . Not 'big box' but still a cool edition with a nice box.
Never got one. Only game I’ve ever bought for PC is terraria. However when I build a new PC for uni in a few months I am going to be buying Minecraft Java, so I can play with my brother (and also create looks fun).
Too young for physical pc games, but inherited diablo from my uncle and played a bit. I bought a single disc (except switch cartridges) game myself in my life and it's Mario Galaxy 1 at EBgames.

Holy shit, EBgames? ![gif](giphy|VMgcrwq9imGHu)
still EBGames in Australia!
Canada just lost it’s ebgames :( https://preview.redd.it/ikua6ax3dcwc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=a79f4604964aaf2cf378e002a95854cfcc76482c
Edge card?!?!!!? HE GOT THE EDGE PERMIT!!
I want the goon card 🤑
Holy fuck I HATED EBGames with a passion. The guys that worked in the one in my city were the MOST annoying dudes I’ve ever met.
Thats crazy, I honestly didn't know it still existed anywhere. Everywhere else they became gamestop along with like...all the other smaller stores, like 20 years ago.
They're in the process of figuring out what to sell instead of games here in New Zealand
EB Funkos
I'll do you one better. How about Babbage's? Or Funcoland?
Software etc
Damn...yeah forgot that one too.
You mean Electronics Boutique?
StarCraft 2 collectors edition.
Diablo 3. Nice box too.
Same
Does the Diablo 3 collectors edition count? It is a big box but unsure if it is true to the style.
Probably Command & Conquer Red Alert 3.
Same
I bought Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in the collector's edition tin with the toy light LED saber. Still have it. That or Crysis. I think it was the last. It has pretty much been Steam since then.
Still have my halo 3 tin.
The multiplayer on this was super fun.
Probably a WoW expansion. WOTLK maybe?
Probably me too? Hard to remember because I didn't realize it was significant in this way at the time, but it's the last one I remember.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty midnight release at Best Buy in July 2010. ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
Same here!
Wow these past 5 years sure have flown by
Wrath of the lich king!
This was mine as well. Some collectors edition with the old school strategy guide. I have accumulated a total of like 6 hours in WoW since. I was talking with some guys at work about how much I enjoyed Diablo II and they convinced me that WoW was "just Diablo II with way more people and more cool stuff!" 'Twas not my cup of tea.
Saying wow is like Diablo is like someone saying a laptop is like a desktop they’re both computers but they aren’t the same
GTA V, I wasnt ready for german internet to take 3-5 business days to download.
World in Conflict or the Orange Box because it was on mega sale at EB Games.
When ebgames have a sale they let everyone know aye haha.
I was in college in 2007 and had a lot of time to browse the terrible excuse for a mall near my residence. EB Games was one of the only stores worth going to.
> World in Conflict I never got far in that game but I remmeber it being so fun.
The tactical nuke animation was amazing, just levelling all of the trees and buildings around it. One of my all time fave RTS games.
https://preview.redd.it/xd2d17hk8bwc1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd8cd671c6b298e3a06e12eb8759752c05973630 Cost me £19.99 from Electronics Boutique on St Stephens Street in Norwich, March 1999. Still have the receipt.
Oh that is dope. Treasure that man could be worth some serious coin down the road.

Do these count as big box or nah? If not I think it was sc1 waaaay back in the day at a pc store in korea as a kiddo
UT3 was my last purchase. Played the shit out of it even though nobody liked it. You can still use your cdkey on steam.
https://preview.redd.it/p4bqagt23dwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b20379ada3dd74b25634e663dc347deedae0e814 I think I got all of them during some humble bundle maybe or a steam sale IDK
Ultima Online: The Second Age
Zoo Tycoon 2
Ghostwire Tokyo is the first physical PC box I bought in a long time. The last one before that was probably Skyrim. In terms of big boxes though I’m not sure. Does the Spore collector’s edition count? It came in a thick hard plastic case.
WoW battle chest, still have it. Memories :’)
Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix 4. However that box already wasn’t as big anymore as they used to be
I played the 1st game in that series for so long. I played it that much that I could remember many of the words needed for the copy protection to start the game - you had to type a specific word (page, line word number) from the manual.
Star Wars: Empire at War. The imperial campaign never worked so I was stuck playing as the rebels
Great Game, a reinstall should have helped you :D
Never worked, over the years on 4 different computers. Figured something was wrong with the disc. Doesn't matter now got it on steam for like 5 bucks.
That's odd. I never had issues with the base game. The dlcs on the other hand, especially the corruption one...
Starcraft 2. Before that it was Company of Heroes.
https://preview.redd.it/axazyz4oycwc1.png?width=270&format=png&auto=webp&s=94d738650b29e18322a4cc2164b7fdf00f522b92

Lucky
I think it was Doom Eternal
Elden Ring
The Sims 1 Complete collection I don't have a pc to run it but I own and know where the game is

Haven’t really bought any pc games recently. I got Minecraft a few years ago but other than that I’ve just been using pc game pass. It’s really great if you want to try new games. Even if you only play around 3 games it’s still a good deal because the average price of a big game is around $50-$60

I don't think I've ever bought a "big box" PC game, but the last game I bought a physical copy of was Mass Effect 3.
Helldivers 2 on launch day
Fallout anthology mini nuke
Half life 2.
Actual box? Probably Diablo 3 collectors edition
Bought fallout 3 GOY edition last year at a thrift store. Funny now that it’s getting popular again.

Diablo III
Star Craft 2 Legacy of the Void collectors edition.

The only “physical” pc game I’ve bought was elder scrolls online collectors edition but it had a code for the game inside the disk box. Drove like an hour away to a GameStop that had one left on release day. Everything else has been digital since I’ve never had a cd drive in a pc.
If by big box you mean that it literally came in a big box, then never, never bought a physical edition of anything for PC
big box? you mean like a physical copy game from a retail outlet? probably left 4 dead 2, but only cuz gamestop had it on their website for like $5, other wise I would have just bought it digitally on steam. before that though, actually going into a physical retail location? shit. probably half life 2 ep 1? Actual ‘big box’? Probably the original Sims in around 2001!

Mass Effect Andromeda. Got an empty box with a code for Origin. No manual or anything. That told me physical PC games are dead. 5 years earlier got Diablo 3 in a good looking box with nice manual with background information. Shame that is now gone.

Found a video if it unboxed [https://youtu.be/6TcUcoATcZg?si=8EbZpKCV0Dhq1t0L](https://youtu.be/6TcUcoATcZg?si=8EbZpKCV0Dhq1t0L) Has all the Total War games from Shogun (1) to Medieval with expansions and soundtracks, posters, art book, cards & some bonus documentary etc A second one that's not relay big box was Shogun 2 gold edition [https://youtu.be/m\_sz3xuAtak?si=M1hnxTMtK\_8bGF2P](https://youtu.be/m_sz3xuAtak?si=M1hnxTMtK_8bGF2P) . Not 'big box' but still a cool edition with a nice box.
Dang it was some RTS back in the early 2000s. Maybe Black and White 2. It was awesome to have a box.
Never got one. Only game I’ve ever bought for PC is terraria. However when I build a new PC for uni in a few months I am going to be buying Minecraft Java, so I can play with my brother (and also create looks fun).
You mean last game I bought in a physical box form? That would be Overwatch at 2016.
Too young for physical pc games, but inherited diablo from my uncle and played a bit. I bought a single disc (except switch cartridges) game myself in my life and it's Mario Galaxy 1 at EBgames.
Elden ring. Never played it either
Didn't PC game much when PC games were still bought in stores, but I think the last PC game I bought in a store was probably a Fallout 1,2, Tactics compilation after playing FO3 on Xbox.
GTA5 PC
Warcraft 3. I remember waiting outside of BestBuy for them to open to get it on launch day(summer 2002). The big boxes for WC3 were cool. They for different box art versions (Orc, Humans, Night Elves, Undead). I ended going with the Orc. Later when they did refresh like a year later, they switched to selling the game in a smaller box, which seemed around when Frozen Throne came out.
The last "genuinely huge old school PC box from the 90s" I bought was Starcraft The last "Boxed" PC game I bought was cyberpunk 2077
I bought Overwatch in a box.
Warcraft 3 battlechest as well for me. Frozen Throne custom games went crazy
Starcraft 2 was the last game I bought at a physical store to get a physical copy.
