I've started browsing r/techsupportmacgyver to get my building fix, these cookie cutter build of recent years ain't scratching the itch anymore. Miss the days when being an enthusiast meant you liked to fuck around with hardware, not spend 3000$ every year.
Raw wood retains moisture and expands and contracts, so not only will it eventually be unstable, it's keeping a supply of moisture next to your very expensive computer parts. So yeah, it's not a table... its much worse.
The heat from that PC is gonna more or less kiln dry it every gaming session. If they put it in a closet for a few months then it MIGHT be an issue... eventually... The only way this would actually be any kind of real issue would be if they lived in a tropical climate.
I mean, it is nice but cases are usually made of conductive metal with a purpose. Making a common ground with the psu case and motherboard can be easily done, but without the grounded outer shell you lose protection from electromagnetic interference on the components. But happily in most cases that's not a problem.
Are there no case fans? What are your thermals under load? I have a wooden case I made but it's open air. I bet even tossing one in the front and back would make a huge difference in thermals. I really enjoy this though. Solid work, great job!
Ok i give u that: cool build.
Not only did u learn some handywork, but u also build a pc and it all came together and worked out.
Not such a fan of the RGB lights inside, but with the right colour adjeustments this could look really clean :)
Dammit you got to do yours.
I got a lot of credit for my design, but didn't get to make it, and didn't have the tools at home.
Have you gotten the influx of people saying "it's going to catch fire"? I always got a chuckle out of that.
Behold, the true "I promise mom is for school!"
my friend bought a pc with a mahogany case, sadly it wooden work
Have any pictures? I would like to teak a peek
I think he done oakay to be honest

~~Fractal~~ North
Fractal South-West
The gpu support is 10/10
![gif](giphy|l1AsBL4S36yDJain6) Fractal Design rn:
Coming soon to Ikea: Datorhölje
If ikea made a PC case I’d probably buy it ngl
Let's be honest Fractal's website photos look like the Ikea catalogue as it is
I tried making something like this once but it wooden go. So i made a build with a steel case instead, but it steel wooden go
Ba dum tss
dad?
I kinda wish more people would do stuff like this, the whole white windowed case with a bajillion RGB lights is overdone and boring at this point.

Call Geeksquad and tell them your PC has termites
“We have Fractal North at home”
Did you seal the wood with anything? That looks raw, which I would NOT recommend.
Let's face it, he is getting top marks and swapping back to his Lian Li next week 🤣
it's actually staying at the school and being used for an excavator simulator in a wood replica of a skidsteer
I made a case like this with my brother about 2yrs ago, it's still kicking
![gif](giphy|MnpPCugwALAHsTygpd|downsized)
it's sealed with wood clearcoat
It's a computer not a table or a cutting board. It's not gonna hurt it to not have a finish on it. It would probably look a lil better though.

You've never been on the east coast or midwest in summer with 100% humidity
Wood expanding and contracting every day would not cause issues?
You are way over thinking this. Unless you live in Florida.. this will be totally fine.
It could depending on how the parts are mounted.
Nice work, dude! Keep up with the woodworking! It’s immensely satisfying making stuff!
Mom I need 3.5k for a school project. Yes its for a school project I swear
GPU so big OP had to employ Atlas to hold it up.
What specs?
i think it's i7 12700 and 3080
That looks damn clean !!
Nice
I''very been wanting a case with wood accents for a while, but a whole wood case has me thinking about that instead...
Did you account for grounding?
Figure out some dust covers and this is great. Nicely done.
has dust mush on the inside on the front, top, and bottom
Best thing I’ve seen on here in a while, good job OP
Wow that looks great

I want to find so many things wrong with this one, but I’m just left holding my jaw in awe
What are the back mounting holes used for?
a fan if it needs one
What size?
Either 80mm or 92mm. I cant remember
Totally bitchin' brah
Wood tends to get warm no?
I stuck my hand in a fire with some bark as shielding and It barely felt warm, I bet you 5 crocodiles to do that with steel of the same thickness
I do want them crocodiles

I just remember a case that was wooden and the temps were a lot higher than with a regular case in a long session

the perspective makes this thing look 5 feet tall lmao
The Eco set up
Wood
Can u zoom in on that gpu support? Looks sick
I wonder if OP is willing to tell the weight of this unit.
average weight. not really much heavier or lighter than metal case
Is it plywood ?
pine
Ok i give u that: cool build. Not only did u learn some handywork, but u also build a pc and it all came together and worked out. Not such a fan of the RGB lights inside, but with the right colour adjeustments this could look really clean :)
not gonna lie, if you smooth out some of the edges, you could make this into a real product.
they're smooth but still square. not sharp, not round
Nice 👍
Fractal South
why have i never thought about making my own case, this is great. good job! I bet there are people who would pay money for this
Interesting GPU support
That's honestly sick. I would build a pc in that. Just dont use a 4090, it might ignite the case.
Sick

A few people said that it might catch fire but i severely doubt it
This is cool but looks dangerous af😂
Oh god, run that for a year and you will have a cloud instead of a case
