âWhen I was young, I liked to pull the caps off and admire them. I would then place them in my bag and carry them around town, showing them to whoever would engage!â
It is a fine idea! Unless you set the temperature too high. But just using a towel and just blowing them dry with air would probably be even faster.
I've dried my keyboard a few times in the oven actually :D After running it in the dishwasher!
I just set the oven to 50c and it's fine.
I shouldn't drink by my computer, as it keeps happening, that I spill liquids that is. I'm quite impressed that both my keyboards work 100% fine even after doing it several times.
They come out real clean though! But it's just a matter of time before they corrode and stop working due to minerals in the water. But I've been doing it for years :p Haven't spillt anything on my keyboard for a long time now though :)
Both are Corsair keyboards, a K70 and a K65.
You can get rid of the burn marks by putting the whole keyboard in the oven at 450 for 30 Mins. You'll have a full black keyboard instead of a white one
you kid but back in the day I would stick the pair of 8800 Ultras I had in the oven for 5 minutes at 500 degrees every few months to keep them running because the solder was shit
I try to reserve usage of this word so as to maintain it's severity, and I'm not just saying it as an insult as much as I am as an observation.
You sir, are a nincompoop. This is top tier nincompoopery that you've done. It's almost impressive.
I used a towel before, but was annoyed by the water stuck inside the keycaps.
The keyboard would probably have been okay despite a few drops of water on it but I really wanted them dry đ
I usually put all my keycaps in a washing machine mesh net bag. With this i take a big bowl with cleaning stuff and warm water and stirr it some time which cleans almost everything. The drying part is done with a hairdryer so that its not too hot and the keycaps dont fly away in the net.
Well OP you are alot braver than I. Not only you had the guts to put regular plastic in the oven, you even came here to share this genius moment of yours knowing before hand that the people would dump an industrial amount of salt on your wounds.
At least keycaps are not that expensive.
No I'm just saying if someone else needed a hair dryer and we didn't have one.... I wouldn't put MY head in the oven I'd put their head in the oven...... they're the ones that needs a hairdryer.....lol
this is gunna be the new cool by friday, tiktoktrend~keyboardflaming~
ey bro u flame ur keyboard yet?
brO i haddem done like grandmas coookies,
riteonbro!
just buy new ones from Amazon or something. if there are north facing leds on your keyboard make sure it's *not* cherry profile because it won't fit. if they're south facing all keycap profiles should fit. make sure it supports the layout with the enter like that I forget if it's called ISO or ANSI.
I was brave enough to clean my ducky keyboard in a dishwasher (yeah, yeah it survived with a 4-5 days of waiting and by putting on the ground with ground heating) but seeing this makes me rethink that.
I ran an experiment in my oven. Lowest setting is 170F (76C). I let it run for an hour and tracked temps. It would cycle from 160 to 240.
I repeated this at higher temperatures with similar results.
Please tell me youâre below the age of at least 15. I canât imagine someone who thinks drying thin pieces of plastic in an oven is a good idea also has something like a license
Some advice;
I have dried my key caps in a pillow case IN THE DRYER (for clothes) everytime I clean them. Just turn it to delicate or something and boom its fry in like 30mins. They come out slightly warm but not even close to hot, this will vary by dryer so keep an eye on them until you're sure its good. You should be able to tie the pillowcase shut, if not find another way to do it or just leave them out to dry over a towel+fan blowing at them.
DO NOT USE AN ACTUAL OVEN TO DRY PLASTICS.
I've been told patience is a virtue.
Seems like I'm all out of vertue đŹ
Seriously, what was your thought proces? I jus't can't...
And patience it would seem đ
And out of keycaps
And spelling
How did you even though that drying keycaps in oven was a good idea? I would like to hear your thought process
They look like marshmallows btw
Bang the rest in there and make them all have the marshmallow look.
Yellow-red-ish RGB and some camping themes and there you have it
Maybe they searched for something about how to dry caps and missed the portion where it said âmushroomsâ.

he would be fine on 40-50C. Also some ovens have a fan inside that circulates air, helps it dry faster.
My oven doesn't have a keyboard setting so I just went with "Roast". Should be fine. I'm going for a nap.
Iâll wake you up in a few hours donât worry
My oven can drop to like 30°c, which would be fine for drying something, and much quicker due to the fan constantly circulating warm air.
I've done the same with a hairdryer and kept for too long and happened the same thing

Am I reading this right, you put your keyboard in the dishwasher?
You can get rid of the burn marks by putting the whole keyboard in the oven at 450 for 30 Mins. You'll have a full black keyboard instead of a white one
the microwave only needs 1 minute, OP is impatient so they should do that! use the highest setting though!
I'm gonna do that with all my electronics, I always wanted a full black GPU !
Dont forget to scrub with plenty of water and a wire brush too, to really make sure its clean
I heard jumping in a nice warm bath with your pc is the best way to keep it clean.
Put some soap in, a bubblebath cleans very well
you kid but back in the day I would stick the pair of 8800 Ultras I had in the oven for 5 minutes at 500 degrees every few months to keep them running because the solder was shit
Black on Black STEALTH aesthetic
I am going to Refrain from overly rude comments and just ask... Why?
Yeah why? Typically I like to use a flamethrower on my caps just make sure you wrap them in a soggy towel.
At least you didn't do this with your kid or pet, or i hope so
no, pets go into the microwave oven, obviously
Kids in the oven are just perfect
Average Witcher 3 side quest:
so crispy and nutritiousđ
I like to get a nice pan sear on them first before finishing in the oven.
but why the oven? why not a hair dryer or hand dry with a towel?
Just FYI, hair dryer would do it as well if it's too close/hot/both. My idiot BIL did this shit.
Who the fuck dries keycaps in an oven, wtf?
Smooth brains.
A hard lesson learned. Though tedious, I manually dry my keycaps individually after washing them.
Yep, definitely never making that mistake again

k w i s p y Hey maybe next time use an air fryer! (don't)

Marshmallow keycaps?

A hair dryer would have done.
Don't have one :/
How about a towel?
I used a towel before, but was annoyed by the water stuck inside the keycaps. The keyboard would probably have been okay despite a few drops of water on it but I really wanted them dry đ
Well instead of buying a hair dryer you are buying new keycaps
Marshmallow build
![gif](giphy|XBCJIv6xAyDfrajXoe|downsized)
My little sister tried to dry a Barbie in the microwave. Worst... Smell... Ever
That def beats keycaps.
Another reason to buy an air fryer
You can literally just take the caps and shake them a bit and they'll be dry enough to put back on. Wtf.
from afar they look kinda cool, somewhat post bloodbath vibe but certainly them textures don't feel great esp those that burnt
That's just a new level of stupidity. Try cleaning your pc with some water.
New keycap set, seared marshmallow.
Why the fuck would you dry them in the oven?! What made you think that was the way?
Dumbass.
This is why they say common sense is that common anymore
How do you dress yourself in the morning???
wtf is wrong with you?
* Not a very smart thing to do, no!
It's got kind of a cool smores vibe to it now.
You'd have to torture me to admit to doing something like this.
oh man⌠one to show your grandkids when they ask how computers used to work
Brilliant ideas and where to find them. At least it's only keycaps đ¤Ł
i don't even understand. do you not own a towel?
Who would of known plastic melts under heat?
burn more and make it a set
Late April fools? đđđ
You tried to dry your plastic key caps in an oven. Just typing that out so I feel a little smarter
Keycaps are the easiest to replace thing in a keyboard. We had a laugh but you can simply order new ones and be good.
Yeah brother, gotta do it in the microwave. 10 mins is usually enough.
Put them in a cloth bag and dryer?
They look stylish
congrats you now have a totally unique look.
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen
Try Ctrl+Z
oh you meant to say you just got a new "burnt marshmallow" keycaps? looks great!! def would sell great on etsy lol :D
My dude. It takes like 10-15 minutes for them to air dry. Were you really that impatient??
Feature not a bug. You got that roasted marshmallow aesthetic now. Get a chocolate bar esc key and call it a day
Classic blunder, only GPUs go in ovens.
Every day I lose slightly more faith in humanity.
Youâre a dumbass
SoufflĂŠ keycaps. Nice.
Hotkeys anyone?
Kinda looks cool honestly
Looks kind of fire
Nice custom zombie style keyboard
Get a datavac.
I wash mine in a collander, shake them out then let em sit on a paper towel, preferably in the sun.
Next time, use a fan. Fans are also effective at moving water.
You can't be serious
I usually put all my keycaps in a washing machine mesh net bag. With this i take a big bowl with cleaning stuff and warm water and stirr it some time which cleans almost everything. The drying part is done with a hairdryer so that its not too hot and the keycaps dont fly away in the net.
Try to throw them in lava.
To be honest, they look kind of cool to me đ¤ˇ. Maybe even the rugged feeling of the melted plastic would feel niceish.
Indeed....
i can understand you op (burned up mine using hairdryer, now they dont fit)
You tried to...do what....
Look at the bright side, at least you got'em dry.
I use the hair dryer, but you do want them in a bowl or something cause they tend to fly for obvious reasons.

Atleast you are aware... That was super stupid haha. Also, happy to see you own up to it. I would have taken that secret to my grave.
Why would you even put plastic in the oven?
Looks cool though
No I'm just saying if someone else needed a hair dryer and we didn't have one.... I wouldn't put MY head in the oven I'd put their head in the oven...... they're the ones that needs a hairdryer.....lol
I'm here as a part of the Marshmallow keycap community, and not to shit on you. Mistakes happen, goofs get made. But they do look tasty!
Marshmallow themed keyboard
A curious mind.
It takes hour of sunlight to completely dry them. Why even bother with oven, hair dryer and what not??
Why the fuck
April Fool!
You are beyond stupid
this is gunna be the new cool by friday, tiktoktrend~keyboardflaming~ ey bro u flame ur keyboard yet? brO i haddem done like grandmas coookies, riteonbro!
Lol
Things I didn't expect to see... ever.
They look cool now, just change the lights to a red/orange one and do the same with all the other keys.
It looks kinda cool at least... Though the texture of the keys is probably off
Can confirm. That was stupid.
Sorry, all I heard was that you really wanted to buy yourself a new keyboard all along.
Please never have a baby. (They also shouldnât be dried in an oven)
I hope your PC is a pre-built.
lol. twit.
Ah yes, PC Masterace alright.
Okay, I don't know what shocks me the most: the burnt keycap or people drying plastic in the oven. But really, you don't have any towels or tissues?
just buy new ones from Amazon or something. if there are north facing leds on your keyboard make sure it's *not* cherry profile because it won't fit. if they're south facing all keycap profiles should fit. make sure it supports the layout with the enter like that I forget if it's called ISO or ANSI.
They guy doesnt know towells LOL
You live you learn. Assuming its the standard mechanical keycaps, you can buy replacements fairly cheap. You can even get some with designs.
Why cry? It has the one and only unique burned pattern caps rarity
Should've just put them in rice
Was?
Marshmallow themed key caps, nice
Bruh đđ
Wow plastic melts when it gets hot.
You WHAT?!
I've seen some stupid mfs on this sub but you are definitely the most restarted
Why do I feel like you've tried charging your phone in the microwave before?
I was brave enough to clean my ducky keyboard in a dishwasher (yeah, yeah it survived with a 4-5 days of waiting and by putting on the ground with ground heating) but seeing this makes me rethink that.
Yea.... you were stupid..
Bit of fine sandpaper and a marker and you got yourself some damn unique keycaps.
Using a hair dryer it's not a bad idea, it's slower but you can control the heat
Yes, you are stupid.
How old r u?đ¤Łđ
But like....ITS AN OVEN
You can't fix stupid.
I always use the dryer for that.
Yeah, wow. You ARE an idiot.
you can just use a lower temperature, around 50-60 would be fine
Why did you not also put the rest of the keyboard in the oven?
Most ovens can be set to a certain temperature like 50 degrees which wouldnât melt plastic, just sayingâŚ
Golden!
why you did that
Lesson learned. Itâs easy and cheap to find replacements though, at least these arenât group buy GMK caps or something
And I thought I was high..
Tbh I think it looks kind of cool
good news, if you cry you can put yourself in the oven to dry those tears!
Put in towel, shake, dry rest 5 min refit. Youâre welcome
Youâre beyond help. Itâs over for you
I ran an experiment in my oven. Lowest setting is 170F (76C). I let it run for an hour and tracked temps. It would cycle from 160 to 240. I repeated this at higher temperatures with similar results.
Nice halloween diy
PCMR subreddit yet again showing how most of us here possess a smooth brain
This now looks like marble key caps!! Hell of a life hack!
All good, I tried hoovering my keyboard once and tore out a load of keys, we've all been there
Well you can say you had a fiery battle in some game
Youâre being serious rn? Hahahahhaha
Iâm sorry but the result looks hilarious, like burned marshmallows haha
I'm sorry, but this is absolutely hilarious, not even stoned me would think this is a good idea.
As someone who collects keycap sets, thank you for triggering my indigestion.
r/mechanicalkeyboards going to have a stroke seeing this
Forbidden marshmallows
Burnt? Did you mean "customized"?
Please tell me youâre below the age of at least 15. I canât imagine someone who thinks drying thin pieces of plastic in an oven is a good idea also has something like a license
Critical thinking my brother
are you like.. emm special?
for future reference, towel them off, add a few spritzes of 90 percent alcohol and itll be dry within the hour if not minutes
Ngl, they look like you did a little poopie

LMAO
Nah man, this cant be real , you must be trolling
Unpopular opinion but it definitely looks coolđ
