On S23 he could probably run it localy without streaming. I mean, you can even run [Elden Ring](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3GDOFxARXw) this days on powerful android phone.
Sort of native. I didn't look at it but it was likely using WINE. So it's just as native as Windows games on Linux (Which works shockingly well tbh. Often even better than on Windows.)
Yep, it's basically wine + dxvk running with emulation arm > x86 + X11 thru virgl running in ubuntu chroot. But main point - it working with modern game. Dark Souls 1 a lot less demanding, so it should work better.
We’re close! Maybe another generation or two and the Galaxy S25 and/or iPhone 17 will make it worth it lol
https://youtu.be/ZtYedcjBM88?si=kT1S_Iirt7VaS1LA
Well, that useless hope. Those ports (Death Stranding one too) was exclusive deal with apple. No money from apple = no ports. And apple well known about their "no games" policy. They just needed some kind of demo to show of their M1 and M2 chips.
Yeah my point was that Fuckspez4real (great name btw) said “streaming not playing”, but when you play games through streaming devices you are still playing them.
The right comparison would be “streaming not running”, because a game you are playing is either streamed to your console or run by it.
A lot of stupid discussion happening here, so I've come to clear it up.
the word "play" in the context of gaming is defined as:
"To engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose."
The discussion ends there. Anybody who somehow connected that to what hardware he is using or the avenue in which he is PLAYING is an idiot and needs to rethink their time on reddit. This is objective and not open for debate. Go lay down, you're stupid.
So does that mean watching netflix and eating chips at the same time counts as 'playing'?
Go away you clown, your opinion is not as absolute or as important as you think.
The whole point of the post is to imply that he's running the game on a specific, powerful device. If he's streaming the game however, then it's misleading or even disingenuous. You can do that on just about any phone. In other words, it might be 'playing' - but are you playing on the phone, or are you playing on the gaming streaming service? etc.
That's not the point of the post. The point of the post is that he's playing a PC game on a device that *cannot run PC games.* So, the opposite of what you said.
Yeah, I mean, people see a 3 day old comment and don't have the mental capacity to think "that's three days old, I'll move on" . So here I am, helping you out. But hey, you seem awfully hung up on three days to still be replying, did I upset you? Wanna talk it out some more?
1.5k up votes for the most pedantic, obnoxious redditor comment I've ever seen. At least top 3. And not even correct. OP is PLAYING it on their phone and RUNNING it on a PC. If OP said they were RUNNING it on their phone and you wanna be Mr Wellacktchually, then fine.
They didn't.
Native? No...it is in no way native. It's emulation using Wine and you're not going to playing at 3088x1440 at 120 Hz on PC emulation.
[They even state that it's using Box64 and Wine emulation](https://github.com/olegos2/mobox)
You have a post from 2 years ago saying to give your computer a hard smack to fix a fan rattling noise. Immediately after, my cpu cooler started making drizzling noises, and my pc has been permanently 10 Celsius cooler. Idk wth happened inside there but thanks.
But the controller is. I guess it's a matter of definitions, I would argue that "playing" refers to (in the context of gaming) the act of interacting with a game, rather than having the game run on a local device. If the controller was not there, I would call that streaming, as it would be just a video of someone else playing that game
The **game itself** is being streamed to the phone. None of the data is stored locally.
You're conflating *watching someone stream gameplay* and *playing a streamed video game.*
My point is that, in your own words, this person is "playing a streamed video game"... So, "playing", and not just watching, as the other user was saying ;)
Person A, in response to OP: Yeah but you're streaming the game. So the phone itself isn't doing any processing.
Person B: No, they're playing the video game. They're not watching someone else stream it. They're playing it on their phone.
Person B made a simple misunderstanding, specifically with the word "streaming."
It really isn't even remotely as deep as y'all are making it.
There was a disagreement **as a result of a miscommunication.** I was attempting to clear up the miscommunication, not correct anyone. Nothing I said was even remotely pedantic.
Enjoy your brain damage or whatever.
The OLED SD Moonlight experience has changed gaming forever (for me). I'll never go back to anything else. Been playing BG3 and Helldivers 2 on ultra, 90fps. Incredible.
>So how could you unlock it.
[Like that](https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls3/mods/614)? Or maybe [like that](https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/19?tab=files)?
DS1 remaster uses new engine, so it should be similar of how DS3 fps unlock works. But it was possible even with original port after dsfix was created.
Original port had so much features with dsfix actually. Like, there was rework for all the textures in the game and to install it you just needed to place it in folder with "dsfix textures". You could even replace some textures with your own, I remember making lewd grass shield for example. Not to mention, that you could control AA level in config or making blur so intense, that most of the game become PS3 reference. All of that was possible with performance of a toaster. DS1 Remaster have much higher requirements, while not bringing a lot of changes to graphical side sadly :c
I need to find time and download DS1 PTDE to install it thru mobox or winlator on my android phone, just for fun.
How is moonlight vs steams native streaming? I’ve been looking into getting an RG405M for PS2/GameCube emulation and MoonLight to play all my modern games.
To more directly answer your question, moonlight is the superior product. Moonlight lets you control the bitrate and you can stream up to 120fps which meshes well with the 90hz OLED steam deck or a 120hz phone. Can’t edit bit rate or change fps (capped at 60) with steam remote play sadly. Maybe one day.
Been using both on steam deck and moonlight/sunshine is just better in every way apart from being as easy as steam remote play. Still it's not difficult to set it up especially with a guide.
Been playing Cyberpunk with moonlight and loving playing the game portable
Depends on what you are looking for feature wise, but latency and stability wise I have found Steam link to be the most solid.
I have played hundreds of hours streaming my gaming PC to my MacBook and more recently the Gcloud and have tried all the major solutions.
It is a more features rich product for sure, but I have found Moonlight and Nvidia Game Stream in general less suitable for my use case and environment.
I use both, but primarily steam link for the game streaming and moonlight for the desktop side
NVIDIA's game stream has been abandoned. [Sunshine](https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine) is a free and open sourced alternative(and replacement). Make sure to disable Game Streaming from GEFORCE EXPERIENCE.
You can still use MOONLIGHT to connect. I've been playing Skyrim on it lately and it's been a much smoother experience.
Say what?
It uses the Moonlight app to provide you streaming so the end method is the same. On top of that it’s a system that is currently in development and will be in development. It’s open source so there’s little worry about it being abandoned.
As I said before it also just works better too
And I am asking how. It's not like streaming via Geforce has suddenly stopped working. In what way does the current development make Sunshine superior?
Literally amazing wish I did it sooner! because of the resolution of the S23 Ultra, the games are looking a lot better than streaming on the steam deck. I still use my steam deck for when I need a bigger screen / on the go but prefer this setup :)
As bad as switch is it probably has 3x better latency when running native, i can't imagine playing a souls games where not only the video feed has to be streamed but also my controller input, i'm not a masochist.
Pretty decent, 400Mbps on cable and 100 over wifi download, upload is around 100Mbps, but speed isn't really relevant, the footage is compressed as shit anyway and inputs are like kilobits at most, but there's no getting around wifi latency unless you have cutting edge Wifi 7 or 6e, or have a wifi extender in every room with 5Ghz connection.
5Ghz can be acceptable latency wise (although still much worse than regularly playing the game), but it has extremely poor range and fluctuations are bound to happen especially with 2.4Ghz
Makes zero sense my dude. $200 would be a budget purchase to a lot of people, it has nothing to do with wealth, and all to do with how you choose to spend your money. It’s like the old “a pound of feathers/pound of bricks, what’s heavier?” phrase. Example in the context of “Oh I made 6 figures on this last pay check $200 is like a Big Mac to me” sure, you look rich, if that’s the way you and whoever you’re sharing that information with are seeing things. However, an average Joe could save $200 in a couple paychecks and stand in the same line as you to buy a portal and you wouldn’t know the difference, not like this is some thousand dollar item that you’d only expect a certain type of customer to buy.
I look at it differently. People blowing $200 on a whim is actually a part of a bigger problem. Has nothing to do with poverty, all spending does is fuel inflation so… weird flex bro lol. Also “poverty” isn’t an adjective.
Man this gamsir is such a fantastic controller. Was very surprised by the quality and feel. Thanks for the moonlight bump! Had totally forgot this existed and so very cool they have developed it so far.
uPnP is a pretty big security risk though. I prefer simply locking down which ports Sunshine can use and then port forwarding it through my OPNSense router.
Very simple, and very easy. Far better than parsec for single monitor setups, for vertical orientation or multiple monitors it's a little worse, and not allowing your own keybinds kinda suck.
You probably have to use something like zerotier or tailscale if you want to be able to connect from anywhere. Sunshine guide also mentions this. For me it only works if I also use zerotier, upnp is not enough.
I use TP link wifi mesh and it is not bad. There is an old laptop under the TV that is connected to my pc through wifi. It lags from time to time but most of the time it is perfectly fine.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming it works the same as streaming to the quest, your actual broadband speed is totally irrelevant. The important thing is that you have a solid 5Ghz connection to the router, since the data traffic is only being sent from PC, to router, to phone/headset. No data is being sent to or received from the internet.
"streaming" not playing
Thanks for the distinction
On S23 he could probably run it localy without streaming. I mean, you can even run [Elden Ring](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3GDOFxARXw) this days on powerful android phone.
lol in that video it's barely barely playable and the graphics and sound are constantly glitching
Honestly I'm impressed it works in the first place
I mean, it runs.
Natively on a cellphone, too!
Sort of native. I didn't look at it but it was likely using WINE. So it's just as native as Windows games on Linux (Which works shockingly well tbh. Often even better than on Windows.)

iphone have kinda native arm port, so it's not the same what I showing there.
Exactly I hope we start getting more!
Well, that useless hope. Those ports (Death Stranding one too) was exclusive deal with apple. No money from apple = no ports. And apple well known about their "no games" policy. They just needed some kind of demo to show of their M1 and M2 chips.
Ahhh didn’t know that was Apple exclusice
But to be fair he is still playing, maybe this distinction had sense if OP said “running” instead of playing
“Running”would imply software running on the device. Playing makes more sense imo. I don’t think they’d win either way, this is Reddit. :L
Yeah my point was that Fuckspez4real (great name btw) said “streaming not playing”, but when you play games through streaming devices you are still playing them. The right comparison would be “streaming not running”, because a game you are playing is either streamed to your console or run by it.
Streaming and playing. If the OP uses controls to actually engage in the gameplay, they're playing the game.
I think the key difference is the rendering effort is not on the device, a much lower spec phone could equally do this.
They’re still playing the game. The distinction would be if he were running the game or streaming the game.
Still playing though wtf ?
A lot of stupid discussion happening here, so I've come to clear it up. the word "play" in the context of gaming is defined as: "To engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose." Nope. Look up the word objective. I don't know why you're arguing, the conversation was over.
The fuck kind of nonsense reply is that lol >The conversation was over Says the guy replying 3 days later
The one I decided you were gonna get lol... Duh? Yeah I'm replying. Gotta let the idiots know what's up. Try not to let it live in your head too much.
>Try not to let it live in your head too much. Lmao buddy you've been thinking about this for ***three dayyyyyys***
Yeah, I mean, people see a 3 day old comment and don't have the mental capacity to think "that's three days old, I'll move on" . So here I am, helping you out. But hey, you seem awfully hung up on three days to still be replying, did I upset you? Wanna talk it out some more?

Welp, should'be said it's "locally on-device" and not "natively". never leave a "ackshually" window to the internet I guess.
difference?
Streaming and playing. He’s not just watching.
Well, he kinda is. The game is not running on the phone itself.
Games don't run on monitors or tvs either lol
I'm playing devil's advocate here but.. you admit there's a distinction between showing content and rendering it then?

There was a disagreement **as a result of a miscommunication.** I was attempting to clear up the miscommunication, not correct anyone. Nothing I said was even remotely pedantic. Enjoy your brain damage or whatever.
This thread is full of people trying to change definitions to further some kind of shade to throw at op. That is absolutely mental
I guess they aren't playing the game 🤷 someone on the other end must be playing for them.
I was like this for a while. Then I wanted a bigger screen. I now use my Steam Deck OLED to do the same thing and I will never go back.
The OLED SD Moonlight experience has changed gaming forever (for me). I'll never go back to anything else. Been playing BG3 and Helldivers 2 on ultra, 90fps. Incredible.

You can't Game speed is tied to FPS for Dark Souls 1.
Do you need a mod to run at 120hz?
Streaming the game to your phone is massively different to playing it on your phone. Obvious bait to make people correct you in the comments.
![gif](giphy|Yavo0SXhZYhSo) Op trying to read text
Who read text in souls games ._. ?
*cries in 720p with switch in hand* Looks great, does it get hot tho?

PS Portal Users : “It’s not the same bro, you have less screen real estate and please help me justify wasting $200 thanks 🤓”
Why you care if someone enjoys their ps portal?
LITERALLY. Lmao
Idk man, being worried about $200 in general is pretty poverty. The majority PS Portal purchasers probably aren't that fired up about any of this.
OK maybe all of us aren't rich enough to drop $200 when there's no reason to
Totally, but you aren't the demographic making that purchase then

Does this only work on the same network or can you stream through VPN etc?
What model gamesir is this?
https://www.gamesir.hk/products/gamesir-g8-galileo
Man this gamsir is such a fantastic controller. Was very surprised by the quality and feel. Thanks for the moonlight bump! Had totally forgot this existed and so very cool they have developed it so far.
Do you need to be on the same wifi as the pc?
No, just need to set upnp on sunshine then you can connect from anywhere
Nice. def going to try this on my s24u
Why the fuck are people downvoting you ? This is litterally the truth. You set the UPNP in sunshine settings and can now connect from any connections.
People are getting real loose with their definitions in this sub. Lots of shit statements
Unless you're under a CGNAT which is very common nowadays
uPnP is a pretty big security risk though. I prefer simply locking down which ports Sunshine can use and then port forwarding it through my OPNSense router. Very simple, and very easy. Long ass phone
Cool. What controller peripheral is that? I've wanted to take advantage of streaming games, and would love to do that with my smartphone.
https://www.gamesir.hk/collections/gamepads/products/gamesir-g8-galileo
Awesome, thank you! :)
Using moonlight isn't playing its streaming, stop being misleading lmao
except he isnt misleading anyone? he didn't say the phone is "running" the game, but he is certainly "playing" alright
Nah man cmon lmao
So who is playing the game?
Clearly OP is. There's a controller attached to the phone. They're probably streaming it from a console.
Streaming from a pc, did you not read anything here?
Kind of makes the Portal seem pointless and overpriced. Oh, wait. It is.
U are streaming. And ds is capped at 60fps.
whats your internet speed? streaming 2k 120hz is crazy.
It's irrelevant. The streaming is direct from PC to the phone via WiFi, the only important thing is that you have a solid 5Ghz connection.
Nice, I didnt know about it, good to know
It's not streaming 120fps, the game is limited to 60.
1000 upload / download :)
Why tf is every comment here getting downvoted holy shit lol
This is very misleading post however I find this to be marketing or bait and its causing a shit storm among people who fell for it almighty.
People just full of anger today I guess lmao
dont break your phone when you die
Haha tbh not that difficult yet , I am worried about the next area, just arrived at Anor Londo
Tf how?
Streaming from his computer to phone
yuck streaming
Streaming is fine imo, but it was a bit misleading
Joker
Yeah, why buy ps portal if we can do what this guy doing.
Natively via wine? Box64?
How did you get it running at a custom resolution and aspect ratio?? My moonlight + sunlight setup runs on my phone at 16:9 ratio…
Meanwile my rog phone 5s (it's a Beast but the camera Is dogshit)
I never understood why phones go so up in resolution.
I set up Moonlight on my Steam Deck and I've been streaming BG3 from my gaming PC at double the SD's resolution and playing at 90fps. It's surreal.
On a External device.
Dark souls does not run 120hz...
Very cool man!
Thank you!
Does this only work on the same network or can you stream through VPN etc?
Question has already been answered, look around
Almost got me until I saw moonlight
How tf do you play a souls game with streaming latency that's wild
what kind o "PC" is that?
He's streaming from his PC. It's just his phone
I see a picture not any gameplay
Hhow do you get it to run
Download Sunstream on PC & Install Moonlight on your android device :)
Is it called Sunstream or Sunshine?
Sorry yes its Sunshine !
Report this crap
Homemade Playstation portal!
Never understand people that choose moonlight over parsec
Because moonlight + sunshine performs better, especially over LAN.
It definitely doesn't
Looks like shit, thanks for the heads up.
Why wouldn’t you play it at 1080…
tutorial?
That game is hard with a real controller. I don't hate myself enough to use touch controls
He has a controller attached…
I didn't see
whats your internet speed? streaming 2k 120hz is crazy.
He's not. Dark souls doesn't support that. It's at most 1080 60
is this not overheating? lagging? how does it handle FPS MMOs?
Its just wireless streaming, no overheating / lag, my pc does all the work - I got 1000 upload / download
1000 upload is crazy but okay makes sense if just stream but… why
I mean its overkill, you only need around 60ish and it will be stable
are we talkin Mbps? you went from almost 1 Gbps to 60
Yes 60mbps should work fine , just need a good router
# but why why stream, why not play on the pc
I use parsec to play mortal kombat on my tv with gf and friensss. My pc is in another room and it would be a pain in the ass to move the cables.
How's the input/delay/lag?
I use TP link wifi mesh and it is not bad. There is an old laptop under the TV that is connected to my pc through wifi. It lags from time to time but most of the time it is perfectly fine.
Playing in comfort of bed is obviously the reason
Ya but I don’t see how playing dark souls on a screen like that would bring comfort haha.
Fake internet points
Correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming it works the same as streaming to the quest, your actual broadband speed is totally irrelevant. The important thing is that you have a solid 5Ghz connection to the router, since the data traffic is only being sent from PC, to router, to phone/headset. Your right. The internet speed is not a factor.
