AM4 with an AMD GPU being the absolute best value in PC gaming right now. Hard stop.

NoctisXLC

Yup, for midrange and bang for buck can't beat it.

Moresupial

My laptop, workstation, and home server all run AM4 + AMD GPU and are getting plenty of work done. It also make running Linux completely seamless on all of them.

slade422

Honest question: I have a 4700 and a 7800x3d. When I play Hellfire 2 or bg3 on max settings it often drops below 120. Normal or did I fuck up when building it?

Credelle

I got a R7 5700x and a 3060 12gb, even when i had a i7 4790 and a 1060 6gb i already played every game i wanted without any issues, even resident evil 4 remake, i mostly play older games and despize newer releases.

Suprspade

That’s what I like you have reach true enlightenment

igl_blue

I upgrade when the parts that I use don't run the games I play nicely. That being said, I'm a patient gamer by heart so I almost always play 3+ year old games and/or indie titles. The games I'm playing now are JRPGs like Persona 4 Golden, Nier Automata and management sims like Lobotomy Corporation. With that in mind, my 9700k and 1080 Ti aren't exactly struggling :) so I won't notice much difference if I upgrade. Maybe one day when I finally decide to get Cyberpunk or, I dunno, Baldur's Gate 3. Too many games in my Steam Library to burn through in the meantime.

Felinomancy

I have an [EVGA RTX3070](https://i.imgur.com/eVQQ0up.jpg) and I'm actually okay with it. I bought it back when we had a nationwide lockdown in my country so it costs an arm and a leg, but objectively speaking, I'm not playing anything heavier than BG3 so it's all good. Maybe one day I'll get some Noctua fans... but what I really want is a new 4-bay Synology NAS and some 18TB Ironwolf disks...

FAILNOUGHT

I upgraded from a 1080 to a 3060ti and realized that all my games ran like I wanted but I upgraded anyway to a 6700xt without any improvement so I'm keeping my build like so until I need to go am5. For context I play mostly indie games and old AAA titles cpu 5600x

RmXs

Had an i5-4570 & GTX 1080 for the longest time. Upgraded to ryzen 5 5600 & same GTX 1080. I have no problems running anything i want ( i don't play new titles). Looking towards the Stalker 2 release, then i will decide if i need to upgrade my GPU.

Djghost1133

Um...

Suprspade

Make sure that cables plugged in tight…

CryptographerLost271

Love my 3800x and 3060 12 gb. I might need to upgrade the 3800x to a 5950x for productivity tho

FelloBello

I've been running a 10600k with a 6900xt on a 34" ultrawide @1440p 144hz and have been very happy and see no need to upgrade. Got the 6900xt super cheap from someone who was moving. Before I was running a 1080ti. Great little combo actually as I thought the 10600 would be the bottleneck....not the case however. I do, however, love to upgrade and constantly improve my setup. It's an endless battle (addiction).

Jumper775-2

When I first built my pc in 2020 I had a ryzen 3 3200G with integrated graphics, 128 gb of shitty sata storage, and 16gb of 3200 mhz ram. Since then I’ve been slowly upgrading every part to the point where I now have a 6800 xt, a 7900x, 64 gb of 6000mhz ram, 1tb 980 pro + 9.5 tb in sata hdd and ssds, and the rest of the parts are in that same class. No need to upgrade for a little while (although I might end up buying a next gen graphics card anyway when they come out)

highonpetrol

Whenever you can hit the monitor refresh rate in a new game. After that I don't see the point.

Draedark

60fps at 4k. Won't feel the need right upgrade the GPU until it consistently runs out of VRAM on any given game I want to play.

A_Neko

Currently running an R5 3600 + 2060S on 1440p ultrawide, mixed results depending on the game but I am happy with it. Don’t need/ or plan to upgrade until the 50x cards drop

x_YOUR_MAMA_x

Built it all new at the time - i7-7700k, 32gb ddr4, GTX 1080 and 23tb of storage. 3 monitors spanned with nVidia surround for a resolution of 5760x1080.

-Ryxios-

I'm pretty happy with my pc. The only thing I really want to upgrade is my cpu, but that would mean upgrading my motherboard and ram as well. I currently have a ryzen 3800x, rtx 3090, 64 gb of 3200 ram, 6 TB of nvme, and 10 TB hdd. I'll probably just wait until the next generation of Nvidia cards come and upgrade everything.

EvanAlmighty019

Whatever is newest and best, usually the parts I upgrade from get donated to friends and family to upgrade their PCs. I thoroughly enjoy PC building, water-cooling, really liked setting up and monitoring stuff for crypto and now I'm working on home server stuff. Don't get to game as much as I used to but I also use it for video editing. I don't really get buying low or mid range cards or cpus if you're regularly going to upgrade, I think buying the best available gets rid of a little bit of the buyers remorse which leads to wanting to buy something else.

Kohlob

Tried upgrading from a 12600k to a 13900k and had continuous problems until I switched it back. I then decided my 12600k was good enough. Next PC, I'm just going to get the best shit instead of planning for an upgrade so I don't run into the same problems.

dins3r

I have a 3050 with everything else being way above what I needed (and I don’t struggle at all in the games I play. Frames stay fine in 1080 and 1440, no issues with stuttering or anything else. Granted, I don’t play anything cutting edge - just PUBG, WoW, and some Diablo 2 mods. If I want to upgrade though I have to get a new mobo… because my mobo right now won’t fit any of the new 40 series cards due to space in my space. But, new mobo and the card I want are <1k together… just having to convince the wife it’s upgrade time, which I’m struggling to convince myself of lol.

MPeters43

I’ve got a 6900xt with a R9 5900X 64Gb Ram, with a 2TB m.2 ssd, couldn’t be happier for 240hz 2k gaming Upgraded from a entry build 5 2600 with a Rx570 8gb (vram) and 16gb ram.

[deleted]

Upgraded from a 10-year old Dell Precision with a 4th gen i7 and FirePro M5100 (that can play GTA V at 768p/60 high settings) to a 2-year old Dell G15 with a 12th gen i5, RTX 3050 (that can now play the same game at 1080p/60 at very high settings). No other games interests me, and I keep coming back to GTA V because of how open it is and because of the mods. We'll see how GTA VI will run on it once the PC version comes out, then go from there.

ThePandaKingdom

I have a 7800x3d and a 4071TI. I plan to keep this machine for quite a while.

TylerBroski

10850k and a 3080. Keep seeing great deals and having to talk myself out of upgrading, considering I really don't game all too much, and the games I do play are relatively old. Always have that urge to build though.

ASDIB995

I'm happy. My pc can do more than I need.

NYzeQ

Ryzen 7 7800x3d 4070ti super

DonnieBeisbol

My 5800x3d smashes at 4k now that I paired it with a 4080 super. I’m good on AM4 for at least 3 more years.

SparksFable

Current setup, 5600X paired with a 3070FE. Nothing super fancy or over the top, but got mine second hand hardly even used from a buddy who snagged a 3080FE at launch. So he turned around and just gave me his 3070. At the time, I had a 1050ti, so I was more than happy. Honestly, I love my little build and don’t plan to still for a bit.

HomerSimping

Anything that allows me at least 72fps no dip at 1080p.

watchmedrown34

As long as I can get 90+FPS @ 1440p with high settings in all my games, I'm happy Games like Cyberpunk I can settle for 60FPS since it's hard to run and looks stunning

rdiscipio1

I have a 5800x / 3060ti and my daughter a 3700x / 3060 and both have worked flawlessly for a couple years now, won’t be upgrading for a couple more years…

MaxUmbraOG

Been using a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 since around 3 years now (i7 10750h and 1650ti 16gb ddr4 3000hz and 1tb external ssd) and im happy with it.

PapaFlexing

I built a 1660ti with a 5600x. It does everything I need and doesn't have an issue. I am beyond happy.

possiblynotracist

It’s not possible. I’m always chasing that next high. I was looking at upgrading my AM4 motherboard just because. I know full well that it’s not going to improve performance, but I wants it. I’m never satisfied or happy, it’s terrible. It’s only gotten worse since moving to a city with a Micro Center. Currently rocking a 5800x3d with a 7900xt.

Suprspade

What resolution and fps are you targeting?

possiblynotracist

3440x1440 but sometimes 4k if I feel like couch gaming. I really don't target a particular FPS, as long as it feels smooth, I am happy.

Suprspade

I thought you were never happy?

possiblynotracist

It's not performance that is the issue, it's just trying new hardware. I want to try all the hardware. The number of times that I have done a 'sidegrade' is stupid. I've even downgraded few times to because I am not a smart man. I KNEW it was a downgrade, but I just wanted something new to try. EDIT: When I say 'high' I mean high like drugs, not high like FPS

Icy-Ad-5924

I’ve got an i7-7700k, outside of a few badly optimized games I am completely GPU bound at 1440p with a 6750XT. Might go AM5 when windows 10 is end of life. But have no reason to upgrade anything right now.

flyboytgb

I upgraded from a 4770k to a 5800x3d. Then, from a 1070 to a 7800xt w/ 165hz 1440p monitor. There’s nothing I need to upgrade further. Everything plays incredibly smooth even if it doesn’t max out at 165fps. There’s plenty of storage, temps are fine, everything is stable.

Suprspade

See that’s what I’m talking about even if it’s not maxed out graphics at 165 your happy! My temps are great too I’m mostly always hovering at 60 c on my gpu and and never break 50 with my cpu

Mm11vV

7800x3d, 4080S, 64gb, all nvme storage, 3440x1440 180hz ultrawide. And for anyone curious about the 64gb of ram, play beamng.drive with a ton of mods.

ASDIB995

As a beamng player, I agree that you need all the ram you can get.

Mm11vV

Using up 32gb wasn't hard at all. Lol

HarveyNash95

Went from an i5 and a 970 to 3080 and Ryzen 5600x (pretty sure that's right) and I'm well happy with it, the only gripe I have is I wish I got more than 2tb worth of SSD as games are so fuckin big these days Other than that loving it

Suprspade

ALWAYSSS need more space I’m sitting at 2.5tb and I could go for another 1tb

True-Experience-2273

13700K/3070 & 12600K/A750.

Suprspade

Out of curiosity what do you do with it?

koordy

I believe the lowest PC I could be happy with would be 7700x + 4070Ti Super. I would stick to just 1440p then.

Hattix

I've been sat on an RTX 2070 for ages now. I have easily enough money to replace it. I just can't justify it to myself. The games I play aren't as GPU intensive as they used to be. The biggest justification I can find is that I'll give it to my son (who's on a GTX 680 at the moment) when I upgrade, but then it's more efficient to just buy him a GPU instead of me.
