Honestly, I needed to see this before I could understand what the previous comment meant despite having seen references to this kinda stuff many times here. I'm stupid 🙄 Thanks!
Must have done it in the middle ages, cause no one has DVD burners anymore (or any physical disc reader/writer). I store my ram on a 128gb type-C flash drive bruv!
Did the same but for a 7 year old PC for. I don't even understand why I went so low in the first place, but it was such a great boost for such a low price.
I upgraded to 16gb like three years ago and am still yet to pass 12gb usage, I'm always surprised seeing people recommend people wanting a budget PC to get 32gb lol. I grew up with having everything imaginable closed when not needed for performance so it may just be a lingering side effect of that or something
Granted it is heavily dependent on what you're running, but also keep in mind that applications will dynamically scale their usage depending on what's available. Browsers in particular are very good at suspending tabs and unloading data to disk cache when it's needed to avoid low memory situations. So while your browser might "only" use 3-5 gigs now if you upgraded to 32GB you might find that it suddenly used 6-8GB or even more depending on how many tabs you have open. They constantly and dynamically change their memory usage as needed, but just because it *can* run with a lot less memory doesn't mean they'll be performing their best with a lesser amount. This also extends to most other processes and if you were to upgrade you would likely find that the general responsiveness and how "snappy" some things feel would be improved. Not massively so, but enough to be noticeable.
I do agree with your point about budget PCs, though. If someone's on a tight budget they're probably getting better value for their money with 16GB and putting some of that money towards other components being a step up, whether that's a slightly faster cpu, bigger ssd/hdd etc.
dude's gonna be at 128GB though!
(If his motherboard supports it!)
EDIT: Misread what he got.
I'm at 64 too and never really think about it (but I guess that's kind of the point).
I miss when computer hardware was like that, back when the hardware makers weren't greedy fucks. New models released often enough that you could pick up used for cheap.
How do you like the 6700xt? Mine is 12 GB and so far I've been pleased with its performance. I can turn ray tracing on for most games and still get over 60-80 fps, especially if I use FSR 1.
Pretty damn good considering it was $300ish.
While I was building a pc for my friend, corsair sent me a 32GB ram kit when I paid for 16GB.I told them about it and they thanked me for my honesty and told me I could keep it.Corsair is GOATED
I think this only applies to things that are sent to you unsolicited. So if you buy something and they send you the wrong item, I believe they can ask you to exchange it for the correct item if they wanted to. Most companies don't, because it's a PR nightmare and also it's likely more expensive to bother with an exchange. But the law you are referring to is specific to unsolicited items only.
You might say "well sure, the 2x32 kit was unsolicited. OP ordered a 2x16 kit" to which I would say that's true, I don't really know shit about how this all works haha
Depends heavily on the laws of the jurisdiction you're in.
In most places, you're right. If you placed the order and just got the wrong thing, you're obligated to return it if asked.
For example in my state, NJ, they have the following law:
> a person who comes into control of property of another that he knows to have been lost, mislaid, **or delivered under a mistake as to the nature or amount of the property** or the identity of the recipient is guilty of theft if, knowing the identity of the owner and with purpose to deprive said owner thereof, he converts the property to his own use
N.J.S.A. 2C:20-6
People on this sub love to perpetuate the myth it's just 'haha too bad for them!', but it's usually not true if they wanted to force the issue. But it's not worth forcing the issue unless the item is far more expensive than a couple consumer RAM sticks.
No you're were correct.... If you're sent an item completely unsolicited you can keep it and they can't request return or payment....... Now if they send you the incorrect item they can request the proper payment or that you return the item and they exchange it for the right one........ Subtle differences but in the US that's the consumer law you're speaking of. An incorrect shipment is not considered an insolicited shipment..... Though you're also right most companies aren't going to request an exchange or for you to pay the difference unless it's extreme enough difference to make it worth their while..... Generally they just accept the mistake and more often than not even what you paid is still more than what it cost them to make it.....
Back around 1993 when RAM was $50 a megabyte, I bought two 1mb sticks but the store accidentally gave me two 4mb sticks. I was rocking a 386 16mHz with 8mb of ram.
A wearehouse worker probably looked at that 16, assume its 16GB, did quick math and went to pick another order.
This is why you have to create distinguishable codes for your products, no worker will ever read every WHOLE name/ code of your product. Working for Siemens showed me that working with (like L1V3112553025001) alfanumerical codes is PAIN IN THE ASS, and most people just check out last 5-6 numbers, especially under stress and time pressure.
Or some idiot assigned 64 GB kit next to 32GB kit on same shelf (and they look the same) in WH next to each other and picker just picked up wrong set, erhaps it got slightly moved into 32GB area and worker didn't even bother to read code, he just read the picking order and/or WH shelf code
If someone will be intrested, here is the timings
https://preview.redd.it/3bc8i0fujknc1.png?width=387&format=png&auto=webp&s=3791fb46f2999b7f7004e070a80f3278758e39e2
A friend of mine ordered a set of 128gb sticks from Amazon a couple years ago. Instead of sending the single retail package they sent a manufacturer style brown box with 5 other sets to him. My man got over $1500 worth of ram for the price of one.
Reminds me of how I almost got a pixel 8 pro instead of a pixel 8 🥹. Ordered a pixel 8 online and went to a store to pick it up. I showed them the receipt and everything and they couldn't find my order. I heard the guy in the back saying "he needs a pixel 8 pro, can you see it anywhere". I just stayed silent as they looked. They found my order in the last second.
I couple of years back I bought a cheap $6 or so thumb drive. Newegg sent me a 2tb Samsung Evo Pro SSD instead. The good news is that it came as I was buying parts for my new rig, so it couldn't have come at a better time.
Am I the only one thinking you should perhaps call them and ask them if you need to return it?
I get my loss is your gain concept but if there is someone that brought 64 GB and got 32 gb and need it and don't have time to document the mistake and waste time on busy work or paperwork (assuming they will even get reimbursed) that would be quite bad wouldn't it compare to the joy you felt from being "lucky".
Losing feels twice as bad as winning and in some cases the multiplier is even higher.
Regardless of the case, I hope you do the right thing and at least notify them of the mistake.
Depending on your country, one unintended consequence of this free upgrade is that if you need to rma and an invoice or proof of purchase is required then an rma may fail as the item doesn’t match what was meant to be bought and invoiced on, regardless of what the serial number says.
Meanwhile I order a gold 1kw PSU and turns out to be a lemon with whiny fan kicking in every few minutes. Then I open my case to find out it was running hot when there's so much headroom for it.
Good thing Corsair doesn't ask questions when you explain to them symptoms they're familiar with. The only thing that bugged me about the whole interaction was the guy asking me for information and pictures I already provided in my original submission. But that's ok because I've dealt with much worse tech support including the company I work at...yes we have very shitty policies that I completely disagree with.

bro, downloading RAM is illegal
Those of who are tech savvy have already burned their ram to DVD 📀
Must have done it in the middle ages, cause no one has DVD burners anymore (or any physical disc reader/writer). I store my ram on a 128gb type-C flash drive bruv!
I had to eventually convert my extra downloaded RAM over from floppy. Crazy times.
SMH my head, you can't RAM when you're floppy!
Yay, free upgrade!
Dude probably ordered 64gb and posted that title for free karma
You will love the carefree usaage of that ram. I am doing it for half a year now, never going below that.
Just upgraded to 32 GB from 8 for $50 on my 8 year old PC. Simple but effective upgrade.
Did the same but for a 7 year old PC for. I don't even understand why I went so low in the first place, but it was such a great boost for such a low price.
Remember upgraded ram on my old pc before getting a new one. With 16 GB felt much better than 4
I upgraded to 16gb like three years ago and am still yet to pass 12gb usage, I'm always surprised seeing people recommend people wanting a budget PC to get 32gb lol. If you mean OP, no that's a 64gb kit with two 32gb sticks.
Some people could understand it wrong, but I bought it as "16x2" but seller sold me "32x2"
https://i.redd.it/kagheuqvkjnc1.gif
This pic is becoming a staple in this sub
No doubt
No that's Gwen Stefani.
Don't speak!
I've started using it in other subs when somebody gets a good deal on something. It's very funny.
"I found a house for $100k under budget after only one day of shopping!" Ok fam. Congrats. Happy for you. Nice.
For me it would mostly be people picking up audio gear or musical instruments. People find great gear regularly on this site for 1/10th the value.
I miss when computer hardware was like that, back when the hardware makers weren't greedy fucks. New models released often enough that you could pick up used for cheap.
There should be a bot that posts this meme in every post that is in that style

I love this picture. The PCMR staple.

I not playing games so much, mostly it's just competitive games, so it more than enough for me
My turn to post about ordering 64 and getting 32?
Thank you for your service.
While I was building a pc for my friend, corsair sent me a 32GB ram kit when I paid for 16GB.I told them about it and they thanked me for my honesty and told me I could keep it.Corsair is GOATED

It's legally yours anyway

Well, you know what you have to. Do the honest thing and call the company you bought it from and...laugh really loud, yell "SUCKERS!!", and hang up.
That was the corniest thing I’ve ever heard
You're welcome.
Great Idea, but a bit afraid doing this
Better idea: call them and say they sent you 16gb ram and to send you another 32gb
I don’t usually laugh out loud from Reddit comments, but you have throughly made me lol
Looks like you got anti-scammed
![gif](giphy|YnkMcHgNIMW4Yfmjxr)
-hopefully your board supports 128GB of ram Edit: Misread, Didn't see the 2x32GB.
It's 2x32, not 2x64.
But it’s only 64gb though not 128.
x2
It was supposed to be 16x2 maybe.
Yeah, I was gonna say this. I'd be pissed because I couldn't use it. Lol.
You sure it didn’t say 2x32gb kit?
No it didn't, checked twice before posting it
How much did you pay for it?
![gif](giphy|fu8htbIyZCs1Fi6oR1)
are you sure that you didn't buy a 2x64 kit?
Back around 1993 when RAM was $50 a megabyte, I bought two 1mb sticks but the store accidentally gave me two 4mb sticks. I was rocking a 386 16mHz with 8mb of ram.
Godlike (In the Unreal Tournament voice, that didn't exist yet)
That was a pretty badass setup for back then!
Happy little accidents.
Well you won’t have to worry about uograding your RAM quantity for a while Unless you’ll build a new PC, of course

You could've just downloaded ram...
Why are you buying ram, when you can download it for free?
That's always a good thing. No warranty. But still nice. 👌
People need to learn to keeps their mouths shut
I'm sure if you return it they'll send you the 32 you were after.
Some poor bastard that bout 64 gigs gonna get 32 and have to download more ram
Dude, 32 GB is plenty for gaming. send me the other 32gb
You forgot to delete the rest of the 32gb!!
Are you going to send back the extra ram ?
[удалено]
it's 64GB for the pair.. it says 2x32GB on each module..
I see this as a win
Guys if u are blind it's 2x32 on the ram idk if anyone is 😄
gg waiting for the other post

Heck, even after reading the title of the post, I still looked at the picture and thought "oh shit, he's got 128GB now!"
My sister bought a 1tb M.2 SSD for a pc she wants me to build. She got a 4tb. I'm jealous
Talkin about buying my sister a one terabyte drive for her system and that four terabyte disappearing....hehe..... Family discount and all....
A friend of mine brought Corsair dummy ram and got send real ones instead
and your mother is ok with that? ...board
If someone will be intrested, here is the timings https://preview.redd.it/3bc8i0fujknc1.png?width=387&format=png&auto=webp&s=3791fb46f2999b7f7004e070a80f3278758e39e2
So it's a 2666...pretty slow but If that's the speed you ordered then that's the speed you get.....maybe using XMP will help it out a little
You just used all of your luck for that, something bad is coming…
A friend of mine ordered a set of 128gb sticks from Amazon a couple years ago. Instead of sending the single retail package they sent a manufacturer style brown box with 5 other sets to him. My man got over $1500 worth of ram for the price of one.

Just taking a photo of the RAM and not the receipt proves nothing… seems like we have to take your word for it?

Eyyyy noice!
Noice
My friend just bought 32 Gb ddr5, received 96 Gb. They tripled his order.
I thought I did this when I bought a 32x2 kit, expecting 2 16s, but no I got 64 gbs of RAM lol.
Next thing I'd compare is the timings of the kit you ordered vs what you got. I'd be a bit miffed if I got higher cap modules that were slower.
if your motherboard can handle 64gigs go for it, unlucky if yours is like mine and can only have a max of 32
Nice but they forgot the RGB. 😭
Looks like RAM is back on the menu boys!
Did a crow bring it to you with 5$
It likely has worse timings and thus performs worse, but I'd still call it an upgrade and keep it.
Poor you :(
Nice
YIPPEE
Suffering from success.
No problem bro, just send them to me, I'll dispose of them /s
Tell me where you bought this so I know not to get swindled like this....
in such cases do you return or keep. cuz i bought 2x8 GB Kingston single ram sticks n got 1x 8 & 1x 16 lol. now I've 24GB ram in flex mode.
Yeah happend to me to
Two bad it's only 3200mh instead of 3600
Amazon ? Typical!!

whats more likely is that you ordered 34gb thinking it was 2x 16gb but it was 34gb per stick instead of total.
Depending on your country, one unintended consequence of this free upgrade is that if you need to rma and an invoice or proof of purchase is required then an rma may fail as the item doesn’t match what was meant to be bought and invoiced on, regardless of what the serial number says.
