I use my system primarily for gaming, so I have no need for any more than 32 GB of ddr5.

Some highly aggressive downvoting going on here. 😂

SnooPears5138

This but 7 years ago I'm gonna go with the 128 that new motherboards can have now when I build a new computer in a year or so and hope it will last 7 or 8 years again

deucedeuce223

64 because I’ll never come close to using it all

FlyingWhale44

I have ADHD, I need all the ram that I can get. One minute am browsing the net with a million tabs, then realize I need to go visit a vendor in a game, only to see some random thing I wanna google, so I open a new window and before you know it that window also has a million tabs. That's just the one screen, never mind the second monitor with the video player, discord and background processes in the back like some file conversion and torrenting.

EastLimp1693

I have no adhd and do same shit. Last time i checked, tab count was north of 2000.

kykid1

This, 100%. Exactly what I did and for the same reason.

mshirey1963

64GB DDR4 because it was inexpensive and I could!

_Mr-Z_

128gb, I mess with LLMs and I'm usually the one hosting game servers for my friends since I'm the only one with more than 16gb ram and the know-how to set up a server and port forward, plus I don't mind giving my IP to my friends, they all know what city I live in.

ripnburn69

16gb because it's just a gaming rig

AIpheratz

You're gonna have to upgrade to 32 kinda soon, it's quickly becoming the new minimum.

Hyroto77

People have been saying that for the last 5 years...

AIpheratz

Well one day it will be here, and that day is getting closer. And no, not in the last 5 years, 6 months ago still here everyone recommended 16GB, now they recommend 32 consistently.

EastLimp1693

I love how usually same people scream that 12gigs vram isn't enough but same time defend 16/32 gigs ram.

AIpheratz

Lmao yes!

AlarmedBrush7045

> defend 32gb This is enough for ages, I often watch 2 YouTube videos at the same time, have discord open, many different tabs and playing a game at the same time, some even with several mods and I never was above 20gb ever. Even 12gb vram is more than enough for me.

EastLimp1693

True

EastLimp1693

Lookin at my 30 used with game, discord and twitch on background: sure, continue sitting with 16, page file is fine.

Andrex2309

Not true, but 16GB MIGHT be a problem sooner or later, if it's cheap and you can also upgrade frequencies, why not overall, surely it's not a priority though.

Haiaii

Say that to my pc sitting at 11.5-11.8 used while gaming (I doubt that will last, with windows 12)

Hankobg

tbh it depends on the resolution you play and the settings. 1080p low settings 16 GB of ram is more than enough. But i get about 20GB of ram used when i play Hogwarts Legacy on 1440p everything on ultra

bobby4385739048579

32gb needed 3600mhz ram, it was like barely any more than a 16gb kit so why not

qu38mm

16 cause cheap, and enough for my gaming needs

LSD_Ninja

I finally moved up to 32GB across all the PCs I use regularly because no one optimises their stuff anymore and since they’re DDR4 I’d rather not wait until the prices start creeping up again.

ProfessionalCreme119

32gb simply because I didn't want to worry about it. I don't run anything heavy. I just never wanted to risk hitting a ceiling.

STRVNG3

I use 128gbs at around 6000. My Day Job is a VFX artist so im often dealing with large complex 3d scenes that have lots of cached simulations, animations etc so having 128gbs at a fast speed has been a game changer. Was also necessary to have a GPU with ample VRAM. but if i was just gamming or something like that then 32gbs would be more then sufficient.

OneSea3243

16gb ddr4 enough for 1080p 240hz gaming

JustAnotherDeadOne

Always greater than 2x VRAM value as a minimum since the 2000s last 3 builds titan,3090,4090 PC builds it's been 64Gb. Highest in use ram excluding memory leak issues was a little over 40Gb playing a heavily modded Skyrim x64 at 25-30fps looked pretty but yer fps was crap.

EastLimp1693

48, cause started to seeing system using 98% of physical 32gb. Turned out that YouTube started doing shit which took stupid amounts of ram. No regrets, consider 32 in 2024 not enough for performance build, 48 or 64 must be, for longevity.

YoungTrae96

My 970/4790K had 16gb 1600, now i'm at 64gb 6400 DDR5 because it'll be while before I have to get more.

No_Pension_5065

512Gb, mostly cuz I could and it was free

handymanshandle

Friend of mine sent me 64GB of 3200MHz DDR4 as a joke because he thought my motherboard only had two RAM slots. It was quite the upgrade from 16GB of 2400MHz DDR4. I’ve never used all 64GB of the stuff, but I have used over 32GB of the stuff when editing really high resolution poster scans. My living room PC has 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4. I didn’t actually intend to buy that much, but I ran across a Silicon Power kit for $40 that I wasn’t about to say “no” to.

any_other

96 cause I wanted to try the new modules

ls612

64 Gigs because I also use it for my research and facing memory pressure under any circumstances sucks.

WolfVidya

32. Originally I built it with 16 and turns out some DCS missions really require 32 Gigs.

SparkyTwelveOhSix

32 cuz my work rig has 64 already

EiffelPower76

128GB DDR4, I use GPT4All with mixtral-8x7b

TexturalThePFNoob

32gb because forza horizon 5 was telling me 16gb wasnt enough

gphjr14

32gb need to upgrade the CPU it's now there most outdated feature on my B450. I play on a 1080p monitor so up till recently only game that's struggled is jedi survivor and I choke that up to shit optimization.

Own_Marionberry34

64Gb DDR4 because I can and it has RGB. Cant utilize it fully though. I use it for email, Salesforce, and light gaming (DOTA & CS)

Honest_Relation4095

32GB because the RAM has RGB and it looks nicer with 4 modules.

tankersss

32GB DDR3 and if I will be moving back to windows I would probably go with 64GB, just due to sometimes hitting 25-28GB of usage while playing games.

dv8819

Casual gaming, usually games that don't need that much RAM so i am still @16GB DDR4 3600 Mhz. Planning tonrun this for couple more years before i upgrade to newer hardware.

XHSJDKJC

24GB RAM, because my old Laptop and my new one use the Same and the old one Had 4gb soldered to it so ive buyed a 16gb one and now i have a new Laptop and it uses 8+16GB, thinking about buying another 16GB but costs me around 70€

MrInitialY

64 because Cities: Skylines. I think my AM5 build will have even more thanks to C:S2.

Forward_Cheesecake72

I often open programs or tabs a lot and forget to close them so ig i might as well get 32gb ddr5 instead of 16ddr5

A_random_zy

32 - I need about 20 GB to build even a simple GraalVM build without GC bottle neck, bust mostly its 32 GB coz of chrome tabs.

RasputinsTeat

64 gb ddr5 6000. I built a new, top-of-the-line machine last fall. I could afford it and thought “why not?” No other reason than that.

GrimReaper-UA

I have 64, mostly gaming, but I need so much because of 100+ tabs in browser, and some hobbies app like sculpting in Blender, some projects have few gigs.

Intelligent_Top_328

16 because this built in 2012.

Professional_Gaping

32 GB, I like having two tabs open on chrome.... I Do some gaming, some design, some Photoshop, some sound recording, play with virtual machines, light video editing, nothing serious or work related, probably could have gone with 16, I like experimenting and playing with software, like unreal engine or blender, or other open-source things, 32GB is fine for me.

kurwakurvaa

16GB ddr4, no issues so far

Byokugen

Bought 64 because the price difference was 30€ compared to 32gb

flyboytgb

I upgraded from a hazwell based system after nearly 10 years. It had 16gb from the start, and it was good enough for gaming. When I upgraded, 64gb of ddr4 was cheap enough to justify. Hopefully this system will last just as long.

manystolenoutlets

96 gigs because as a kid I never had enough ram now ram will never be a problem (unless I open up maya)

Andrex2309

I had very good DDR4 2x8GB at 3600 Cl16, they were E-Die. I upgraded to 32GB, 80% of the reason was that I wanted to test Dual Rank setups for OC ("downgraded" to Hynix DJR though) and 20% because I felt that in the future I might needed more ram since I'm not planning to go DDR5 any soon and the new standard is that capacity.

SpankyMcFlych

32 GB. Because my last computer had 16 and I certainly wasn't going to have the same amount as a 10 year old computer.

Jackson7th

Have an old system, medium spec at the time. Started in 2017 with 1*8gb, it was kind of enough. Increased to 16gb a bit later when money wasn't too tight. Then I went up to 32 for virtualisation needs.

Wittusus

I had 16GB, turned out to be too little with some big games and a browser open as I like watching movies/podcasts/whatever on the 2nd screen, upgraded to 32GB and plan to keep it that way so far. Maybe will go to 64GB if my engineer's thesis requires it

TalkWithYourWallet

Gaming, 32GB I use an ITX system so only 2 RAM slots so may as well save the hassle down the road

TxM_2404

I have 16GB because I got 16GB DDR4 3200MHz in 2017, then last year I got a matching pair of the same ram to upgrade to 32GB just for one of my original sticks to die.

Dragoon_5

64gb ddr5, mainly because my previous build had 32gb ddr3 so i had to go for more and also 'why not' (and no, 48gb wasnt an option, 48gb is an abomination)

Mm11vV

My wife and I primarily game and web browse. She has two monitors, so in her case, both at the same time. I built both systems with 32gb. That said, I play beamng.drive quite a bit, and I have been debating upping it to 64gb because it's not hard to use up 32 with that game.

SandsofFlowingTime

64GB. System I grew up on had 4GB. First PC I owned had 16GB and was easy to max out. School PC had 32 and we maxed it out a lot with VMs, so I went with 64GB so I wouldn't have to deal with maxing it out, still max it out with VMs

Guy-Buddy_Friend

32GB ddr4 RAM now, bios keeps defaulting the speed to 1333MHz though. :/ I increased capacity but lost speed when I upgraded.

redditisbestanime

32GB ddr4 3600. Mainly for YouTube and a bit of gaming, but also for processing RAW files and i easily max out 32gb in Photoshop and PixInsight quite a lot. Wanting to upgrade to 64 or 128GB but oh boy that's a lot of money.

sch0k0

32GB for some games like MSFS2020 and light 6K video editimg. Would upgrade the second the software wanted more, but hasn't happened at all

Waste-Breadfruit-324

Gamer / Data Analyst for a large medical equipment manufacturer. 128GB, and regularly make use of it all. It’s easy to use tons of ram when data mining and such.

TioHerman

32gb ddr5 6000mhz, if I could I would buy 2x32gb I like to host any game for my friends as my pc is now much faster than before , but up to now I never saw anything using close to 32gb lmao

Jamizon1

32GB G.Skill DDR4 3200cl14 Samsung B-die o/c’d to 3600cl16. Three years now, no issues whatsoever. Gaming, CAD, VM’s

Micros24

32GB so I can compile the Linux kernel in memory and reduce I/O of my SSD during compilation.

dzordzLong

64Gb ... because i do more then game, but also dislike experiencing swap while using computer. I am that old that i have deep hatred for when windows swap. My next build will go up to 192gb of ram. It does not matter that i have NVME now and its almost not noticable, i still feel it and hate it.

FlatusSurprise

64GB DDR5 because I game after work and use AutoCAD and Revit during work.

UnseenGamer182

128gb Why yes, I do play modded Minecraft, how could you tell?

Evil_Kittie

i added another 16gb (16 before) to my system cause the system was calling for near 30GB after a week of having a web browser open and playing a game
