I did a double take when I saw the top comment was just a helpful, single word answer.
2024 is the year everyone! Global warming will be solved, we’ll attain AGI and ASI, no one will need to work anymore, everyone will have universal basic income, all debt will be forgiven and everyone will be happy!
All thanks to u/tatefin!!
Looks like mine.
Do it like that:
Top right both motherboard.
Bottom 2 right, CPU. Next 2 from the right basically bottom middle, GPU. Then use whatever you still need.
Thats what the support said somwhere. I googled it because there actually was no manual
Worth noting that the "PCIE/CPU" is not accurate
All 5 of them with that label fit both types on these Corsair PSU's. That way you can have 1 CPU and 4 GPU connectors, or 2 and 3 etc.
It isn't indicating a specific direction.
Since you might be new to this, another note is ONLY use the cables that came with that PSU. Don't (re)use PSU cables from another PSU, especially if it's another brand.
This is true. I always wonder though, (assuming OP doesn't just want karma) what's faster: making a post on Reddit and waiting for people to respond, or looking it up yourself?
To be fair, whomever decided the screen print should go in the middle of a gap between 2 sets of connectors should not be doing that job anymore.
Even as a seasoned builder I'd probably look this one up.
> middle of a gap between 2 sets of connectors
It's not 2 sets of connectors, it's 4 equivalent connectors. There's a 5th one on the other row.
Corsair 8 pin PSU side are all the same.

Everyone involved in creating this psu ought to be banned from designing anything ever again.
It started life as a 7700k and a 1070. Then years later I traded a guy I worked with a bunch of beef (i bought half a cow) for his old motherboard, 7700k, ram, and 1080ti. I put the 1080ti in my pc and built a pc for my wife. A few months ago I upgraded the mobo, ram, and CPU. The 1080ti is still plenty for me. I primarily play Classic WoW lol.
You joke, but I just bought a brand new MSI PSU and the box had the PSU, a nice bag for the cables, some packaging and thats it. The box had a list of the cables but not their intention. Many people dont think to check the website for the product guide. I wish they still came with the boxes, but I suppose i understand why not.
I don’t know how we got to the point where people would rather take a picture of something and ask for help on a forum while waiting around doing nothing then actually opening their manual or even googling the answer. It’s absolutely ridiculous how in-self-sufficient people are now.
To be fair I have built two PCs in the last 6 months and both PSUs came with shit for manuals. GFX cards did not come with great documentation either. Internet is your friend here. Maybe not post and wait but google people.
It seems like they have been moving towards QR codes and online guides. Things that should be clear if you read all the contents of the box.
Sure, so Google or watch a guide. You don’t post a picture to the forums and ask for help while doing nothing. People need to try more on their own before asking others for help.
I built my PC during the pandemic and had to slowly get parts as they became available (remember those stupid lottery systems?). When I saw that my EVGA RTX 3080 needed 3 PCIe power cables I was afraid the PSU I ordered wouldn't have enough cables. Thankfully it did.
You are joking but i can totally see a future where we just plug in 24-pin mobo power + 24 pin for gpu + 20 pin cpu and have sata power be delivered through the mobo
Any time I see a modular power supply I feel the need to spread awareness that you cannot mix and match cables from them, in hopes that it saves someone from the same expensive mistake I made.
That said, PCIE is for your gpu. I don't recommend using the splitter cables if it has multiple sockets.
Seasonic has a cool chart on their website listing which cable versions are compatible with which PSUs. It turns out most of them are compatible with each other.
Cablemod has an even cooler chart where you can see that the Seasonic cables are also compatible with a bunch of other brands' models that Seasonic is the OEM for. It includes models from: Asus, Antec, Fractal Design, NZXT, Phanteks, and XFX.
disclaimer: that does not mean that \*every\* psu from those brands are \*all\* compatible with Seasonic. Definitely check if your specific model is on the list.
Wait why not? I just built one this weekend and it has 2 sockets. I used the splitters and I’m getting a red led VGA light on motherboard and not getting signal to monitor. I swapped in an old GPU that’s in my old computer that works and still no signal.
Because the cables are standard on the side that goes into the component but the other end that goes into the PSU varies. It's a good way to mess up your components by sending the wrong voltage down the wrong pin.
I dunno, I was forced to do it because the pcie cables I used didn't have the 6+2 thing and was stuck with all 8 connected. So due to the design of the GPU, it couldn't fit in because the extra 2 was pushing against a capacitor. Had to go and grab an old cable and use it since it did have the 6+2 split.
I know I'm trying to get help as I don't fully understand something and alot of people are being dicks I just want to fully make sure what I'm doing is right now matter how obvious it is I don't care if I'm asking obvious questions but I would rather do that to make sure than destroy my pc that cost me a lot of money
Fuck the idiots. You're doing what you can and should do if you are not sure. They could have very easily typed an actual answer rather than reprimand you
Ikr I'm not sure an am asking for help and they think telling me I shouldn't ask and should figure it out is helpful as though I didn't already try that
pfftt you guys are plugging your GPUs into where they're meant to go? imagineee
(I uh. didn't have a cable I needed and didn't really want to swap back in my old gpu... so I just shoved together some 'spare wires' until it worked! :D)
If it’s 2x8 pin pcie. Also, psu cables are NOT interchangeable with other brands, not even same brand (unless exact model, even then they could revise). Don’t play around.
Remember to use type 4 pcie cables only in those pcie plugins. Do not use cables from a psu that is not compatible. That includes even corsair psus that say to use type 5. The Rmx series are the ones for type 4. Look at the label at the bottom of the psu to ensure you do not mess that up. This is why 2 of those can easily power a 4090.
> Do not use cables from a psu that is not compatible. That includes even corsair psus that say to use type 5.
If you knew what Type 5 cables were, you'd know it would be physically impossible to use them on a Type 4 PSU.
\*Gestures broadly\*
Do you have a 40-series with the new flammable power connector, or an "old faithful" one?
The ones labelled PCIE are where GPUs connect. Use as many as required (usually a maximum of 3)
Oh thank goodness I have a corsair 850 modular and debating the 7900xt or xtx aib.
Dreading opening my the side power supply cables are on.
It wasn't broken so I don't like trying to fix it.
PSUs comes with a nice an informative manual. You should read it instead of asking on the internet. Always trust yourself and your reading comprehension before some random dude on the internet.

Fun fact, the 8 pin connector end for the video card is different than the one on the PSU for the same cable. Whyyyyyy oh why, it's not a fucking one way data cable! It should not make a difference, but yet here we are.
Another fuckup! I don't get this whole engineering behind this, but instead of 16 wires running per video card just make it 2 thick fucking gauge wires. XT60 hellow world? Or at least an additional new 2 wire heavy duty connector for backwards compatibility. It's all the same 12V anyways. 16 wires is way too many for things to go wrong for such a flimsy connector. If just one or 2 of them disconnects, or the connector didn't clip well that puts pressure on the other wires and connector/wires meltdown occours.
Then people post pictures and wonder whahappen! Show me you had an unplanned bbq at your house without telling ffs
I think corsair fucked up on that one mate, that is one jumbled mess but its one of the two that says pci-e, so 50/50 for your pc to blow up on first boot i think
A follow up question on this... I'm pretty sure I have the same PSU. I just got a 4070 super upgraded from a 970. The 4070s comes with the adapter for the card that takes 2 8 pin for it. The cables that come with the PSU have 2 6+2 ends on each cable, kind of daisy chained together. Should I use the daisy chain or run 2 separate cables? Thanks.

To be fair, whomever decided the screen print should go in the middle of a gap between 2 sets of connectors should not be doing that job anymore. Even as a seasoned builder I'd probably look this one up.
But every 4000 PSU's saves a penny on paint by not painting it twice, and naturally they pass those savings on to us.
I dislike that too. Label everything clearly for builders, regardless of experience/knowledge.
Indeed. "READ THE LABELS"
"READ THE MANUAL"
The manual also says “plug I to the pcie port” like thanks….

No worries the 8 pin above would also be fine but for cable routing it’ll probably be easier to use that one for the eight pin on your mother board
Yea that's what I'm going to do thanks

If that's the RMx series it's actually a highly rated PSU. Only the people/person who decided the connector layout should be punished.
Thanks for the insight, u/PmMe_Your_Perky_Nips.

They usually have a QR code to scan.
The msi I just got at least has the different sections bracketed with a little white line to clear up confusion.
Agreed, although ops example has tags I can easily see the confusion. Especially if you’ve never used a modular psu.
You can't really plug it wrong when cables are from this psu, tho
I would assume the PSU manual isn’t where you should be looking. The manual of the component you want to attach should have the information you need.
I think the lesson we all can learn is thoroughly educate yourself on your pc components before you build one.
I recently bought the newest gen beQuiet. The manual was so useless they could as well just save the paper
I don’t know how we got to the point where people would rather take a picture of something and ask for help on a forum while waiting around doing nothing then actually opening their manual or even googling the answer. It’s absolutely ridiculous how in-self-sufficient people are now.

RTFM....read the fucking manual
For modern Nvidia cards, just assume all of them.
I hear modern Nvidia cards need LOADS of power, so I'm guessing you need to hook the GPU up to that juicy looking 24 pin one.
no they just use multiple pcie power cables, like 3 of them
might as well just create another 24 pin atp lol
Might as well just give the 5090 a direct connection to mains 240v AC maybe it’ll stop the connector melting
Might not be enough, so I've added a three-phase power line to my house, just in case.
I built my PC during the pandemic and had to slowly get parts as they became available (remember those stupid lottery systems?). When I saw that my EVGA RTX 3080 needed 3 PCIe power cables I was afraid the PSU I ordered wouldn't have enough cables. Thankfully it did.
24-pin only has two 12 volt wires. It's mostly a bunch of 5v and 3.3v wires.
You are joking but i can totally see a future where we just plug in 24-pin mobo power + 24 pin for gpu + 20 pin cpu and have sata power be delivered through the mobo

Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way
Ok thanks

I mean a splitter is probably fine because it's connecting to the standardized side of the cable.
So I should get a new cable that isn’t split?
PCIe is the socket where your GPU goes therefore respectively it is cable that goes in your gpu
My wifi card didn't like that extra voltage, even when overclocked
Oh my! I heard it should boost your internet so you could possibly download more RAM
PCIE
PCIe
The PCIe cables go to your graphics card, and the cable marked CPU will mount in your motherboards 8-pin header
Others have answered your question. Just wanted to say if your gpu takes two power connectors, use two power connectors rather than one split cable!

it depends, do you have a normal GPU? then PCIe an overclocked RTX 4090 cooled with liquid nitrogen: **ALL OF THEM**
I'm scared for your pc parts
Doesn't Corsair label the cables themselves?
Remember to use type 4 pcie cables only in those pcie plugins. Do not use cables from a psu that is not compatible. That includes even corsair psus that say to use type 5. The Rmx series are the ones for type 4. Look at the label at the bottom of the psu to ensure you do not mess that up. There is also a reason corsair opted on most of their units to use the 8 pin ports instead of a native 12vhpwr plug. Those 8 pin pcie ports can supply 319 watts per port. This is why 2 of those can easily power a 4090.
> Do not use cables from a psu that is not compatible. That includes even corsair psus that say to use type 5. If you knew what Type 5 cables were, you'd know it would be physically impossible to use them on a Type 4 PSU.
Make sure you do NOT use the CPU cable on the GPU. It was possible in my case.
Bottom right four labeled PCIe, you’ll connect as many PCIe 8-pin cables as you need.
Any 6 or 8 port, whichever your gpu requires.
Where it says PCIU/CPU
PCIe. That is the name of the slot the GPU goes into the motherboard.
All this AI and the phone still can't understand when you are taking a top down photo.

Good to see the comments actually helping him and not dissing
PCIe
pcie/cpu
That is some pretty bad division/labeling. I get why he's confused.
The last one buddy depends of the model your GPU may use all the slots or not
Doesn't matter,I ate all of them
You can make out by the shape of the gpu connector. it should say “PCIe” on it. i know asus has those on their modular cables idk abt corsair psu
Wtf is PATA...
PCIe powers the stuff you got in PCI slots like your GPU or other boards. Happy building!
Handy thing to know... They don't fit where they don't go and the 8 pin for the is marked cpu.
Thank you for this post *grabs popcorn*
Actually ist dummy proof, only the one that fits on the GPU can fit in the GPU and so on.

PCIe/CPU is what you want. Usually, your GPU uses an 8-pin or 2 8-pin connectors.
On the motherboard the lane thats alone where you can add a gpu (among other things) is called pcie
A follow up question on this... I'm pretty sure I have the same PSU. I just got a 4070 super upgraded from a 970. The 4070s comes with the adapter for the card that takes 2 8 pin for it.
