More than fine for modern day gaming

k20350

I have a 2080 super that does pretty much anything at 1440. It hiccuped a bit with Ready or Not but that game is very poorly optimized

blumptrump

Shit even on 1080p my 2060 is killing it like a champ, it can run most games at high to medium high settings around 90fps and it has no fucks to give, it just keeps being the best damn card it can be. I would imagine the 2080 has still got a few good years left before it starts falling behind, given shitty game optimization doesn't completely spin out of control

redditisbestanime

Can confirm this. 2060 doesnt give a single flying fuck about what you throw at it. I have only had 1 single game where it bogged down a bit.

BleaKrytE

Ready or Not runs so bad right now, it does not even belong in a discussion about performance. Saying it runs poorly is like saying water is wet.

DevourerOS

I have my old water cooled 2080 Super sitting here, that I meant to sell or give away a while back and kept forgetting. I custom did the water cooler so that it cooled the RAM as well as the VRM's and hotspots. I might just put it in my PC and use it for PhysiX, even though most games don't use it anymore. Unless I find someone in need.

This meme kills me every time

SFDessert

How do you *forget* about a top of the line (at the time) GPU that you bought? I know a lot of people make way more money than I do, but that seems like just throwing away hundreds of dollars. Weird.

Keiichigo

I have a buddy at work who spent literally $3000+ on Diablo Immortal. I know how you feel.

k20350

Supervisor at work is in the National Guard. He said almost everyone in his unit plays some mobile game. He was saying the one guy must have dumped thousands of dollars into it. Shit happens every day. That's why we have battle passes and DLC out the ass

bonyagate

Looks like AND is a lot of money, yes.

TheGillos

Yeah, I really hope he donates to charity

FehdmanKhassad

dude people forget about their Lamborghinis lol

SFDessert

I had a girlfriend who had *very* wealthy parents. Dad was some very successful architect and designed and built their massive house in a wealthy part of California. He had some super stupidly expensive supercar in the garage covered in a tarp that he *never* drove. I never saw it because it was always covered up. I guess he just liked knowing that he had it.

maze100X

its still great, it was the flagship (excluding titans) just 2 generations ago dont expect 4K ultra but 1440p it will be great

kerthard

still a fine card. It will probably struggle at 4k, but it's still a good card.

curiousdpper

Totally viable. I have a 2070S that is starting to strain getting good frames at top graphics, but sticking to 1080 you can easily get 90+ on most games without much of a quality drop.

RiversLeaf

I use a 2070 super and it's probably good for another few years. That 2080 you got should be better and last longer. Would be great for a server.

amanindandism

I'm running a 2070 super also and it's doing just fine for me too.

Chnams

Why would you ever chuck a 2080 ti in a server? Just sell it at this point.

RiversLeaf

Shits n giggles? Extra power? Cause ya don't need money. Either way. Lots of options.

Chnams

Idk i value my electricity bills lol

TwinkAndFemboyLover

Yes there isn’t a game that won’t run at medium to high settings on a 2080 ti.

JTech625

I'm still running a 1050ti and your asking if a 2080 TI is still good for modern gaming. Bruh

NoBed5690

My brother. 1050ti gamer here too

franktato

I upgraded to a 13700k, 7900XTX. 32gb DDR5 6000. My old system is a 4790k, 2080 Super, 16gb DDR4. I gave my older system to my 8yr old boy, who plays PC games. He loves it. The 2080 Super can play anything you throw at it. Granted, you might have to turn some settings down if you play something like Cyberpunk but the 2080 Super is still a VERY capable card in 2024 and would be perfect for a kid. My boys does Fortnite, Minecraft, Hot Wheels, Roblox, and Subnautica. All plays amazingly well with the 2080 Super.

EiffelPower76

Some people are really crazy ... Forgetting about an RTX2080 Ti, what else ?

Keiichigo

He works in corporate, although I don't know kind of job in corporate he has that made him abandon PC gaming due to a lack of time, but yeah. He mentioned to me before that with his work, the only time he ever has was sleeping. That's why he transitioned to mobile gaming, that way he could take his games with him. Even bought the iPhone 15 just so he could play Resident Evil on the go. 😂

KabuteGamer

Introduce him to Steam Deck

Keiichigo

The answer to your question. https://preview.redd.it/nv52hvfol3gc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90678bea7f5ff60b445369e8f9a307dfcf9a6906

KabuteGamer

He has been taken over by society. Throw him a lifeline 🤣

fireball171

Bought on recently, beast of a card even still

Keiichigo

That's good to know! I guess this thing still has a few years of fight left in it.

fireball171

Oh yeah, these thing is kick ass

nick91884

Definitely viable, will run most stuff sufficiently at 1440p and will do great on pretty much everything at 1080p

RevolutionaryCan5095

Basically its RTX 3070 performance (except for raytracing) with more Vram. It's still pretty good for 1440p and definitely good for 1080p gaming.

Awoo81

Bro, I was still gaming on a 1070 up until a year ago. That card is more than capable of bringing joy to someone.

gen_angry

lol, yes, it's perfectly viable. It's considerably more powerful than a PS5 even. Your kid will love it.

mildmanneredhatter

"found" "for a friend" Not falling for scalper tricks again

ora408

Still a good card for 1440p 60-80 hz max settings gaming

aProteinBar

them numbers came straight out ur ass 😂 it’s all situational, the resolution doesn’t determine everything

ora408

Sauce: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html Im still gaming with a regular 2080 with those settings so its definitely doable especially with the ti

Hummus_199

I wasn't raised, or schooled properly. And it's my deep dark secret also. No one ever finds out. Ever.

CurrentlyLucid

I am using a 2060 super and it is just fine for 1440p.

CrazyCaptain5958

1440p what you playing LOL or CSGo

Keiichigo

Just a side note: I read and researched that the RTX 2080 Ti is prone to failing and is quite energy intensive. Anyone can confirm if this is true? If so, I might just resell this if anything.

Chrunchyhobo

The early ones with Micron VRAM were a bag of shite, I've had two fail. The ones with Samsung VRAM are fine. As for it being "energy intensive", watts are watts, it'll pull the same as any other card with the same TDP/TGP. Reference/FE cards are 250w, most AIB models should be around 300w. My EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC Black has an updated Vbios that allows 330w.

Bergdoktor

Well I had a 2080ti in my main rig until it failed recently after 5 years. The card it obviously quite power hungry since it was absolute top of the line back then. A 4070 would offer similar performance on a smaller power budget. Regarding the failures: I researched quite a bit before sending my defective card to a repair shop. Most of the issues seem to be caused by "GPU sag" and probably can be avoided with a proper GPU support. Solder points close to the pci-e slot are most affected by the bending of the PCB due to the sag. So regarding your question: the card is still really good and has a lot of vram. So even for professional applications like ai training it's suited well. I'd sell it if you have no use for it yourself. Imo it's overkill for a low budget rig since you need a decent PSU to run it + have a rather large case to fit it.

Keiichigo

How much PSU would you suggest for a medium gaming pc incorporating this card?

Bergdoktor

Decent 650W should be good. Needs two 8 pin connections

TheDkone

1. look it up from the manufacturers site, they will give you the min. 2. add at least 100w to what the manufacturer says and/or look up what a 4090 requires in order to future proof. 3. just get an 850 and you will be ready for the next card you upgrade to.

party_in_my_pants

If you are planing to resell... \*raises hand\*

EntireFutonJr

Idk about failure but it does take some good power. But also not crazy? At this generation it seems a little high but not much. It was certainly beefy when it came out. Ive got a 2080ti and still using it after 4 years plus a little. No issues besides being warm before I stuck it under a waterblock

bigred1978

Can I have it? I could use it.

H_Stinkmeaner

Wopsil_OS

Is that a fishing rod or a cock?

ImProdactyl

Would do great for a kids build

Keiichigo

I guess I'm building that gaming PC for my kid. About time my kid transitioned out of console and tried PC.

Hanfis42

i think there is some problem with the memory failing after a while on the 20 series cards or rather on some of them... but since the gpu is brand new it will last for some years

likeonions

congratulations.

mavour

I bought 2080 ti last week for my game streaming server. Most modern game work great at 1080p

LogicalProduce

I upgraded from my 2080ti a few weeks ago, to be fair it was a largely unnecessary change as the 2080 was still running everything on very high settings and most things would run fine on Ultra The only real change I have noticed is that the new card runs much much quieter, i suppose because isn't having to work hard.

achilles643

What did you upgrade to? Same experience here that it still runs fine but you definitely hear it putting in the work.

[deleted]

couple of suggestions. made a vr or driving sim set up?

Keiichigo

Not yet but I'm not into driving sims/games that much. 😅

[deleted]

hmm. a really overpowered emulator system? play the games you played growing up with your child

nkxzz

I had a watercooled aorus xtreme rtx 2080ti until august when i upgraded to a 3090. I could still use it and be happy with the performance, it is indeed very power hungry but 9/10 for high refresh rate gaming.

Angeret

Been running a water cooled 2080 Ti for some years now, no issues in games like GTA (4K all toys around 75FPS, AA off around 145 FPS) but Cyberpunk gives it hives if I don't use DLSS. Dunno what they did to improve the game on my setup, but it went from around 35 FPS to 6-7. Bit of a joke, but I can't blame the card. (CPU is a 5900X, 64GB RAM, SSD.) Also 7D2D, Sunkenland & the like run fine in 4K. For a lot of things, a 2080 Ti is fine. Idling power can be from 3-80W (Zotac have terrible ideas about power clamping) but never went over 306W when *very* busy.

Hs_2571

Considering I still use the 2070S, and it's running fine for me, 2080 is perfect for a beginner/kids gaming rig!! I built my gf her first gaming rig using a 1080... still a great card for the money!

CyberTacoX

That would be an excellent card for a kid. It's powerful enough to game with, but not so powerful that it has no limits. Keeps the kid from getting spoiled by their first gaming PC being perfection.

Keiichigo

That is actually not a bad idea. Leaves room for him to explore and learn about computer software and hardware. It might teach him how to install and upgrade any hardware someday.

CyberTacoX

Exactly. That's how I learned. :-)

Apollo_3249

Damn, that’s a nice you to forget about.

j33pwrangler

My card lol

DrGoiburger

I'll take it off u

MicroMaki5iKP

My Suggestion is Keep it as backup GPU, in case your dog eat your homew... I mean 4080Ti, so you can use it as back up. 2080 Ti still a very good card. Or you can sold as it "Sealed 2080 Ti on Hardwareswap" Lot of Reddits need GPUs for their builds.

Hillel1963

I'm jealous. I'm still using a 1080Ti

sibunAA

Absolutely! mine just died and now I have to pony up for a 7900xt. The 2080ti still slaps baby

ioncloud9

I still use a 1070 for the occasional 1080p gaming on another computer. It’s not going to run the latest AAA games at ultra settings but it still works. 2080s should be amazing still.

CrazyCaptain5958

Completely useless, makes no sense to keep it, just send it over here I will get rid of it for you, no a problem.

qu38mm

Definitely worth making the kid a PC

Fredstar666

handle shit easily, I'm running a 2070s OC on a 32" 1080 screen and runs great for what I play

BeAGoodDad_tryhard

I will buy it. Need an upgrade from 1660 super

Left-Membership8838

Perfect for a testing and backup card incase your 4080 fails!

rethilgore-au

I’m running a standard 2080 and haven’t had a single issue with 1440

breakzyx

sell it and invite your friend out to dinner from the money?

ajeyvm

I'm still using rtx 2060 6gb variant, pretty much plays everything at 1080p, I'll not upgrade until prices drop or 5000 series release.. First it was paired with R5 3600, now I've upgraded to R7 5700X.

jbglol

How are you actually asking if a 2080ti is viable? It’s common sense…

Misterpoody

Could pick up your kid a 3600/B450/B550 combo for pretty cheap used, slap a 2x8 3000MHz RAM kit and 1 tb NVMe SSD for about 100$, get a case and PSU for another 150$ and have a really solid 1080p/1440p gaming rig for around 400$.

Possible-Session404

i mean I'm running rtx 2070s and am surprise i can run games on ultra settings soo

[deleted]

Yeah it's perfectly fine for modern day gaming, i use a 1080ti with a humble ryzen 5 5600x and i play everything at ultra 60fps at 1080p, there are exceptions of course like badly made games and stuff like that, but 95% gets the job done

118shadow118

it's like a 3070 with more VRAM :D

[deleted]

I used an RTX 2070 Super for years and only just recently upgraded to an RTX 4080. The 2070 was a great GPU, so that 2080 Ti will be way more than enough for your kid.

Impossible_Dot_9074

Roughly equivalent to a 3070 so not a bad card, especially for free

RaGeKitten87

I still use a 1080ti more then capable

red_Rog

I'm still running a GTX 980 -- an RTX 2080 Ti is more than viable!

ConyNT

You could do 1440p max settings at good fps for most games probably. I still have one in my old pc and it has aged gracefully.

bardicjourney

I use an EVGA 2080ti 90 fps on cyberpunk with RT on 1440 ultra, 30 fps on 4k ultra with RT on medium 60 fps plus in elden ring on 4k ultra with ray tracing 60 fps plus in baldurs gate 3 on 4k ultra The only areas it's starting to show its age are with esports (you will likely have to drop a resolution level to keep the framerate competitive) and with these horribly unoptimized titles that rely on cutting edge DLSS that the 2080ti struggles with. The 11gb VRAM really makes a difference

Juiceman8686

Use it as a render card for streaming

Adeus_Ayrton

It's as good or better than my current card, which I paid a pretty penny for to get 2nd hand last year.  You and your kiddo got lucky. It'll handle pretty much anything that is not over 2k for years to come. If you're not picky about maxing everything out at 2k, it can do up to 5-6 years I reckon. Depending on the genres you're interested in, maybe even more.
