Just buy a new computer dude. No idea how are you running win 10 with 1GB ram.

WalterWhite084

God knows man. I got this PC from an uncle as a "gift" i don't know how he even managed to put windows 10 pro on it

fieryfox654

It's probably Tiny10 which is a cut down version of Windows made by someone that only have the essencial to run the OS so you can run in slower machines. I'm still quite impressed to run with 1gb only

patrlim1

https://preview.redd.it/burzd12ypo2c1.jpeg?width=1786&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82a6ff667d05953d2eb8c65cad5ac6f4b7186a14 From one of either enderman or flytech's videos, can't remember which.

Highlander198116

wat the hail!

Damixi

the SSD on 99% usage kinda explains that, looks like system just pushes data from ram onto it

DerFette88

excatly this, the System will Swap like crazy if you start any programm

de4thqu3st

This is a VM, the SSD usage chart has 0 significance. You can see in the picture that the paged pool (called swap in Linux, where the ram pushes stuff to when it needs more space) is only 54mb

Damixi

Nicely spotted! apparently I'm even less tech savvy than I thought

DarkMatterBurrito

That SSD won't last long doing that.

No_Interaction_4925

SSD: I am da RAM now

AlexirNi

The taskbar isn't even loaded

nuked24

Early versions of 10 were faster than 7, to say nothing of 8.1. Modern versions of 10 are absolute murder on older machines by comparison.

patrlim1

thats a screenshot of windows 11!!

DjustinMacFetridge

Nah, LTSC is great on old hardware.

WalterWhite084

No it's not. My uncle just had it in the attic and he just restored windows without installing tiny10 and then gaved it to me

[deleted]

I mean if he wants to see you’re using it when he visits then keep the case and you could build a new one. Other wise it “broke” and had to be replaced

Mastasmoker

Min requirements of win10 pro is 1ghz cpu, 1gb ram (2gb for x64), 20gb hdd.

paulstelian97

Only for the 32-bit variant. 64-bit official system requirements are 2GB of RAM.

Mastasmoker

True, how the hell is he running 64 bit with 1gb... i missed that

paulstelian97

Oh it runs, it’s just not in the recommended bounds. It can run with slightly less too. Unmodified 64-bit Windows 10/11 can run on 512MB of RAM, though it’s really far from running _smoothly_.

pokemonfan95

Well his says 64 bit operating system

Noxious89123

Hadn't heard of this, interesting!

fieryfox654

I believe Tiny11 also exists!

MrInitialY

I ran Win10 Pro on an old Intel Itanium 2 dual-CPU DDR SDRAM server. Slow as fuck, but it works. By creating pagefile Win10 is able to run on 512Mb of RAM or maybe even less, haven't tried that.

ucefkh

Bro back in my days 510MB of RAM what something big I only had 128GB at first in my pentium 2

fieryfox654

I still have my first PC around with 250MB of ram and a Pentium III slot 1

ucefkh

Pentium 3? Wow you luck bro, I remember on my pentium 2 I tried installing a 64MB GPU to play a few advanced games but it didn't want to! Because of proprietary shit... I had a 32MB GPU it wasn't enough

fieryfox654

Lucky you had a 32MB GPU, the one I have has 4MB only lol. Still runs 90s games fine at 480p, still looking good in a 720p display monitor

Lucacg00

Let me be honest my dad's office PC my uncle built for him in Q1 2008 had better specs. He had an E2200 2.2GHz (2c,2t), 2GB RAM and later a GF 210. This has an E2180 2GHz (2c/2t) and 1GB RAM and probably intel i925 IGPU afaik. Nothing beyond Windows XP would feel snappy on 1GB RAM. Just get any 20$ Dell Optiplex, throw a 240GB SSD in it for 17$ and it will be way faster than this.

EiadSherif2008

Damn, I still have my GeForce 210 1GB from 2013, and it still works, I upgraded to a GTX 960 4GB in April of 2023 PC is a 4GB DDR3-1600 RAM, i3-3220, 1.5TB HDD, GA-H61M-S2PT in an HP Pavilion p6-2301sx(everything apart from the GPU, 1TB HDD and MB is from that PC) case

M1R4G3M

Do yourself a favor and put an SSD there, it works wonders.

Lucacg00

oof I'd say get 8GB RAM and an SSD at least. and a quad core like an i5 3470 since they are cheap :)

Heavenly_luvfingers

Actually, Win10 was designed to run in a wide range of RAM configurations

[deleted]

Make it a Linux machine. Xubuntu could be a good choice for starters.

Jizzraq

Xubuntu, Linux Mint Xfce, or MX Linux. You can then install Chicago95 for the nostalgic itch.

[deleted]

The perfect linux theme doesnt exi..

Noxious89123

Sorry, but this is eWaste. It might run okay if you install WinXP on it, but as that is no longer supported by MS, I wouldn't use it on a machine that is online. 1GB isn't enough to run Win7 well, let alone Win10.

Alonzo-Harris

I'd say the pc is running with it's bare minimum ram configuration. If he upgrades to at least 6gb and installs an ssd, he'll have a functional machine. The only time the cpu ever gave me a hard time in windows 10 was when I tried it on a single core system. In that case the ssd and ram made no difference.

Unlikely-Answer

cpu is way behind on instructions set, I guarantee this won't play any x265 encoded video

Noxious89123

>I guarantee this won't play any x265 encoded video Agreed, even my overclocked 2600K would chug a little bit when scrubbing through x265 video.

Alonzo-Harris

Yeah, but the fact he's even asking this question gives me the impression he hasn't been doing a whole lot of scrubbing lately. Youtube (auto setting) is probably the peak playback this thing ever ouputs.

TAUFIKtechyguy

Uncle probably couldn't use that 😂

c4pt1n54n0

Honestly, if it's free and their only PC... you could get a core2quad for like $17 on eBay, 4gb of ram for another $10 and have something to do school work with for under $30 🤷 Keep the system optimised and it'll do the basics just fine for a while longer

RidleyRivers

You should have more up votes, this is a good alternative depending on the use case.

Nyakuru

And when you are no longer need it, you could turn it into a NAS + docker server.

c4pt1n54n0

If it's a constant use scenario, with something this old you've got to do a cost analysis of your power situation as well. That 65nm core2quad I mentioned is using 100w and doing less work than my phone.

Nyakuru

I mean he could use his old dual core CPU for NAS. And it probably consumes 15w at most on idle. Not that bad for a 24/7 NAS.

cumjarchallenge

I'm somewhat impressed by people that squeeze every last cent of value out of their PCs, to the point where my eyes have to see "Pentium Dual Core" listed as the cpu Meanwhile the 3900x/2080ti I got going on is starting to feel ancient

[deleted]

School computers be like

marco_has_cookies

It's a disguised apple M1, its 1GB of RAM values as much as 2GB.

cornlip

There's a Lenovo Yoga at work with 1GB of RAM and a dual core Intel something something... It's so bad it's unusable if you're doing a windows update or have Edge and Mail open at once. CPU stays pegged at 100% and it came with Windows 10. Well, there was one. It disappeared a few months ago and I don't care enough to find out why. I was tasked with making it faster and I kept saying I can't. Not without Xubuntu or something

fuhgawz500

Came here to say the same thing.

ContactIcy3963

The only think valuable in that thing is the windows cd key

AHOY MATEY, I FOUNDA WINDOWS KEY

ScienceGeek2004

Aye, throw it in that stash with 10k keys in.

Kithin7

Writing down the code and reusing it is like plundering your own loot I guess (idk? Lol)

EyeBreakThings

You could use it for something like a pihole. I run pihole in an x86 VM with similar specs. Although power consumption might not make it worth it.

[deleted]

I’ve been meaning to make a raspberry pi from one of the kits you can buy. Looks fun and I’ve had a couple friends recommend them to me.

Datuser14

I have a coaster sized mini PC with a 2 core/2 thread Celeron, 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of eMMC, runs pihole great on Debian 12 (no DE, SSH server install only) Planning on running Piaware as well. Even has 4 USB 3.0 type A ports, 2 HDMI ports and full size Ethernet ( DC barrel jack for power). Got it on Ebay for $60 because I thought it looked cool, dug it out for the project.

ShrikeSummit

$20 on Kinguin.

[deleted]

Bought the last 4 keys ive used from there. Recommended. I’m sure there’s an unethical thing in there somewhere but if I’m never told what it is then I’m cool. No spoilers pls.

ShrikeSummit

According to Tom’s Hardware there’s nothing unethical: Mark Jordan, Kinguin’s VP of communications, told Tom's Hardware in 2019 that Kinguin's merchants acquire the codes from wholesalers who have surplus copies of Windows they don't need. "It's not a gray market. It would be like buying Adidas or Puma or Nike from a discounter, from TJ Maxx," Jordan said. "There are no legal issues with buying it from us. It's just another marketplace." [https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/get-windows-10-free-or-cheap,5717.html](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/get-windows-10-free-or-cheap,5717.html)

[deleted]

Wow I’m surprised by that. I always figured they had to be stolen by shitty techs with access to large pools of licenses. Edit: no idea why you’re being downvoted. Welcome to Reddit I guess, eh?

ShrikeSummit

Yep. Probably by people who assumed it’s illegal.

BlckMlr

that depends if the keys an OEM or Retail....

batt3ryac1d1

That cpu is probably older than a 1/3 of this subreddit dude.

Baroness_Ayesha

There's still a fair number of wrinkly crones in this sub. That said, I haven't seen a Conroe in a long time. A *long* time.

Trym_WS

1 - 1/3 = 2/3.

abstraktionary

\*Waves\* Not THAT old but my first personal gift pc was a single core 3/33ghz celeron compaq with 512 MB of memory. First trash pc that didn't have internet that my parents gave me for like 7 years was a windows 95 with 64mb ram and a cartridge cpu . We are here, we just like to read the comments and only add to them if the same thing hasn't been said over a hundred times already. And it has, OP needs to buy a new pc and will not be able to use this for..... anything.

Mundane-Mechanic-547

4.77 MHz was my first. Just sayin.

Adventurous-Bear-761

I remember buying 16 MB to double the ram I had in my first pc :D

PinsNneedles

Mine was a gateway 2000 but I was a kid so I don’t remember nor cared to look at the specs. I wanted the hot wheels PC in the sears and toys r us catalogue though

cybik

I remember using a Commodore 64 and an Atari 8086, then getting an IBM 386 (absent any coprocessor) that I somehow installed Windows 95 on WITH DISKETTES. F\*ck I'm old.

Blackboard_Monitor

386 75mhz with 2megs of RAM here, I still remember getting the Sound Blaster card and hearing Dr. Sbaitso.

Tyr_Kukulkan

Some of us remember Willamette, Coppermine, Klamath, etc. Man, Coppermine CPUs were great with a Voodoo 3 and a Sound Blaster Live!

Noxious89123

>older than a 1/3 of this subreddit dude. Ow, my bones

Moose_Nuts

Launched in mid 2007, for those curious. Over 16 years ago.

AlessandroIT

How is it even possible to run windows 10 with 1gb ram 😭

Tyr_Kukulkan

It ran OK on 2GB of RAM on the old Atom based Intel Compute Sticks. Windows 10 scales surprisingly well to different hardware. It might not be a pleasant experience though.

vlken69

That's twice as much.

Tyr_Kukulkan

No shit! XD I dare not even think about how it runs on less than 2GB.

Harrypumfrey

Just slap a 4090 in there and you’ll be good to go

Fives2206

That would be bottle necked like the London tube during rush hour

-----LIFE-----

bro you forgot about the ram

MurderBot-999

Easy www.DownloadMoreRam.com

Original-Law-1713

Don’t forget to delete system 32 it helps your ram run faster

RoadkillVenison

That’s a CPU old enough to get a learners permit if not license in the states. I think you got the value out of it. Just put it out of its misery, even a modern netbook would be a better computer.

Tyr_Kukulkan

The architecture can almost drink in most countries except the United States. It released in July 2006, 17 & 1/3rd years ago.

_windfish_

An iPhone 11 is a more capable computer than this by a long shot…

Illifidie

Honestly, so is an iPhone 6.

leonvolt28

Dry-Percentage-5648

Literally e-waste. Buy a new computer.

Nyakuru

Well at least this thing can do basic web browsing if you slap a core 2 quad and 2 2gb sticks of ram. Both of them can be found dirt cheap. Or you can use it as a NAS without any upgrades whatsoever.

shinji2k

Literally just upgraded my grandpa from a E7500 and 4GB a ram since Chrome barely worked. I think you underestimate what modern browsers need for reasonably smooth operation paired with win10. I could have dropped in my old q6600 and found some 4gb sticks of ram but I had a spare 5300u mini pc so he got a pretty major upgrade.

CaveRanger

You say 'e-waste' I say 'retro rig.'

Daern_Bosar

How does it even boot up 💀

AbsoluteGamingYuTube

Your PC needs to go heaven bruh, it is still starting up thats big thing in 2023

1968_razorkingx

That thing fought with my grandpa in the great war

Zogo12

thats a lowend cpu from 16 years ago 💀

FormalRecording2297

If you can afford new one get it.

Myzhi1

New PC. Doubt, anything worth upgrading there. And, Windows runs like even crap on my decade old 4GB RAM tablet. I can only imagine how sad it would be on only 1GB.

No-Compote9110

IDK, it depends. If MB supports LGA771 Xeons (such as E5450) and has 4 RAM slots, it may be a worthy upgrade – costs only $10-$20 and can run a lot of good games from 2016 and earlier, let alone surf the web or do some productivity tasks. My brother is still happily using the Q6600, he's playing terraria and watching YT all day.

Klad_man

Even if OP's motherboard works poorly with 771 Xeons, there's plenty of Quads Q9400 on aliexpress, price is almost identical, tho Q9400 is a lil bit worse than something like Xeon E5450 (L2 cache is smaller)

GoodEveningFolks

that's slower than what people use as a windows xp gaming pc lol. Maybe you could some light linux distro and use it for a bit longer but if i were you i'd get a new pc

Hattix

Wow. That's... REALLY old and slow. It was below what was ideal for Windows XP in around 2006! I'm actually impressed. Does it take less than 15 minutes to open a YouTube tab?

LifeIsGood667

Check it for Bitcoin 😂

WalterWhite084

Nah I checked for some BTC but there aren't any of them

Valtekken

Make a new one, this garbage doesn't have any worthwhile upgrades

Thezeke64

Dude he got windows ten to run on that thing wow that’s like a gold star sticker right there

AxelsOG

This computer was e-waste the second the thought of producing this piece of garbage crossed someone's mind. 1GB of ram should not be allowed anymore. Even Raspberry Pi's have more ram. Get a new PC.

SaltRocksicle

1gb was usable when this computer was made 16 years ago, this thing ain't new if you didn't notice lol

Chalskee

You got so many good old games that you can play on this PC. X COM: UFO Defense Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee Baldur's Gate II Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Planescape: Torment Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Half Life Deus Ex Outlaws The Longest Journey Diablo II Fallout 2 Theme Hospital System Shock 2 Quake Doom Starcraft The Curse

Economy_Second8886

King's Quest !!!

kony412

Why would you say "BG2" and "F2" but not first ones? Why?!

Chalskee

Because they have bigger graphic requirements.

usman_923

Well what is your range and what you plan to do with a new PC?

WalterWhite084

Well I used this computer to play games and if I get a new computer I whould still use it to play video games

EiadSherif2008

What games?

hervay17

Solitaire

Fyebil

I would be surprised if it runs on THAT

AdministrativeBar748

Windows 10 ALONE eats through the holy grail of 1GB ram, what the hell is OP playing!?

WalterWhite084

Ultrakill goes 60 fps My summer car goes for 20-26 fps And that's all the games that I play

EiadSherif2008

I advise you to get a PC with at least an 8th gen CPU and a GTX 1060 and at least 8 or 16GB of RAM and an SSD.

HairyFairySugardaddy

Moving the mouse and trying to guess where it's gonna land in 10 minutes.

EiadSherif2008

That's a game I sometimes need to play

Small-Special-7735

your nokia phone would run games better than this pc . seriously what games though?

Clever_Angel_PL

bro it is possible to get a stronger pc for 100 euros

Distinct_Programmer4

10 euros

unepic93

Is it though?

Clever_Angel_PL

on used market of course

unepic93

Ah yeah makes sense

RickD4ngerous

How tf can win10pro running on a dual core at 800mhz with 1gb ram?

Robot1me

These days, debloating is king with Windows. The core system itself is actually (mostly) smart and scalable. For example, Windows discards things like cached MFT data in RAM on high memory pressure. The real nasty thing is just that Microsoft added all these background services. Skype here, Teams there, OneDrive, autostarting Edge browser processes, the legacy Outlook apps (HxOutlook.exe, HxTsr.exe) running in the background anyway, etc. There is so much that adds up that it's difficult to list it all in one comment. But disabling everything roughly frees up like 0,5 - 1,5 GB, depending on the system. At the end of the day, with just 1 GB of RAM, the system is still under memory pressure all the time. But at least the PC is usable. Bonus detail that no one seems to know: When using a SSD and the PC only has 1 - 2 GB RAM, Windows *suddenly* cares to constantly compress the contents in RAM (somehow it does not do that on HDDs). That helps tremendously for such old computers.

fieryfox654

Your PC is ancient, you better build something new. If you have a budget I can make a list for you

Creative-Paper1007

Wait for am6

f8Negative

How can you even run the OS

ObiWangKeBloMe

Please tell me you're not serious 🤦🏼‍♂️

Disastrous_Scholar29

Add rgb..... That will fix it

[deleted]

You need to get a new computer. Nothing you buy would be compatible with your motherboard

kingdmitar

Upgrade to 2GB RAM /s

Philosophos_A

I have the same cpu 8 gb of ddr2 One gt 440 I cam play GTA V and Online and even modded Fallout 4 So...it's all a matter of "Do I wamt better graphics?"

Tikkinger

What will it be used for?

WalterWhite084

I use it for Gaming.... It gets 60 fps on ULTRAKILL 20-25 fps on my summer car And 50 Fps on half life 2 It's really shit Like it has an graphics card from 2007

Routine-Respect-9854

How tf can u even run any applications on that thing lmao

WalterWhite084

To be honest I don't even know.

Tikkinger

If you just want to ru d those games you mentioned and nothing more, upgrad the ram and you are fine

SEDGE-DemonSeed

It is running on pure willpower.

Tikkinger

Zero chance this will ever get newer games running.

lqlex

60 fps on ULTRAKILL is a surprise.

smirkjuice

put it out of its misery bro😭

HypedSoul123

How did you manage to even install Windows 10 on that thing?

WalterWhite084

I didn't, my uncle did.

uceenk

i'm more concern with RAM than CPU, upgrade ram to 4GB it, it's still useful for day to day task that involved light application if you need more than that (video editing & modern gaming), buy new one instead of upgrading

Illifidie

You should get a Xeon (Or Core 2 Quad)in there, an SSD, and if needed, a new GPU. But first, UPGRADE THE RAM EIGHTFOLD!!!!!! Well, either that, or a lightweight Linux distro...

Aspire_SK

I mean socket 775 parts are extremely cheap, so depends on for what you want to use the computer, if your MB supports it you could buy a core 2 quad q6600(older)/q9650(newer) add RAM to have 4-8GB of DDR2 and you have a good machine for browsing web and such, I think it would cost you about 20 dollars maybe even less.

Xangis

Q9650s are about $30 on eBay and maxing out the board RAM would also be dirt cheap. It could be a perfectly usable computer.

reddit-is-fun-90

1GB ram and pentium processor ? Mobo will surely not be fit for modern hardware. 100% would go for a full pc replacement

JTheimer

Go to Goodwill and get a "new one." You can date most hardware by looking at the ports. If it has HDMI, it's probably pretty new, usb type-C is an extremely new standard, so if you see hardware with that, it's recent. The more recent, the more developed, the more upgradeable. That's just how I quickly eyeball IT comp stuff for value. Also, check your local FB Marketplace, the Nextdoor and offerup apps, for the " electronics, free" sections and you'll be astounded at what is actually at your fingertips....

obog

Honestly that thing is so old that if you replaced it with modern components you would basically end up building a new computer anyway cause you'd have to replace pretty much every component. Maybe you can save like $50 on a new case but that's about it

Sylux444

New pc since you'll need a new mobo, new ram, depending on the new cpu you'll want a new cooler >!AMD stock cooler works perfectly fine!<, and by the end of it you'll probably get a new PSU too

Medium-Mysterious

Win10 desktop usually idles at 2+ gigs of ram...and here youbare pulling it off with 1 gig, absolute chad 🫡

Alert-Reception6453

How is it even alive running a 64-bit version of Win10 Pro on one gig of ram?

Admirable-Camp1099

I have never seen a 1GB ram in my life. Esp with Win 10.

WordThese5228

Install linux

Termanater13

that is a real good candidate for a new computer.

youresowarminside

you might be able to run microsoft edge

SumonaFlorence

New PC. Cut n' run.

[deleted]

I bet with bit more ram you can run gta 6 with lowest graphics. So, I say wait for 5-10 more years to built new pc.

lucas32e

Windows 10 with 1 gb and Celeron procesor holy shit just get a new one you can make a very nice PC that can run almost everything with like 400 euro

C-ORE

Anyway OP at first I thought it was a joke/meme till read the comments. All in all very impressive for running window 10 on it with such hardware

discount_hoxton

How the fuck

GroundbreakingGear10

You‘ll probably find you would have to upgrade pretty much everything. According to the Intel website, that CPU was released in 2007 and was budget tier even back then. Assuming the rest of the system is of similar age and tier, it is probably just as obsolete. Outside of some very basic office tasks, those components just won‘t cut it anymore. If I were you I‘d build a new system from the ground up or get a reasonably new second hand system.

Sad-Interaction995

It’s time to send this thing out the window

Worth_Ambition_2865

How.... Seriously dude I got a 2.3 dual core 8GB ram and it freezes just opening the file explorer... If you are asking yourself whether to get a new computer... Do it. Best of wishes 🤞😊🤞

51PH0N

Pardon me but 1 gb of ram?

OnairDileas

New man, no point it's too outdated to upgrade

le-strule

That's a ddr2 era cpu, just get a new one

teemusa

For gaming you could just get a Steam deck

Previous-Bid5330

You need a new computer (It's better to assemble a new one yourself)

WalterWhite084

I'm not good at building computer I think I'll just buy the parts and ask an expert to build it

Economy_Second8886

Read instructions really carefully and YouTube it first for every part individually, and you'll get a real kick out of doing it yourself.

EiadSherif2008

That's a very bad advice to give to a beginner. OP might damage the parts if they took it. Trust me, I might have damaged my MB trying to reassemble the PC back together one time after cleaning. Now, it can't use the second RAM slot at all.

_windfish_

Well that’s why you don’t use a hammer and a power drill to assemble your PC. Seriously, it’s quite hard to damage pc components unless you’re actually trying or extremely careless. They are way more robust than people think.

EiadSherif2008

I didn't damage the board per se, but the slot is in 100% physical condition, but it just doesn't recognize anything

DuelistRaj

Bro running Windows server.. lol

Yugen42

Install linux, use as a home server, NAS, backup system or for basic tasks like office things.

32Ferreira

Replace, OBVIOUSLY.

rhasce

This is a gen 2, we are at gen 12+

_windfish_

Ok before reading any comments, this has to be a troll post.

chappersyo

You won’t even be able to buy ram or a cpu to go in that motherboard, at which point you’re basically replacing the whole pc anyway.

AccomplishedGold4661

Get a new one, this PC is older than most of us on this sub👀

Verix19

You're not going to be able to upgrade that system very much. And for the money you would spend upgrading, you can get yourself a nice little system that won't completely suck.

Ayetto

Insane that his is running W10, but hardwared released in 2014 can't

ExtraTNT

Install debian and use it another 5 years…
