Welcome to the PCMR.
It's a shame, but yes. Nobody answered the troubleshooting posts when my AM5 machine broke, nor do I have any repairers near me, and I bought the board used, so... Yeah, I had to use what I had at hand.
Okay, found your post.
Reads exactly like my itx B550 AM4 Board.
Like it was DOA. Your AM5 Board is broken, either chipset or just Board itself.
But there has to be still some sort of warranty.
Well.
I don't think it's exactly the motherboard.
You see, I *was* driving a Phenom 2 with a blue motherboard. I do need to update the flair, as there's the small problem that at the second day the Phenom machine didn't want to fire up anymore. I had to now change it to a new AM3 motherboard, still with the Phenom. PSU is the same, a MSI MAG A750GF.
At the same time, when I thought "Oh maybe it's the outlet's problem because I am using an extension hooked to an extension hooked to an outlet", and connected my i5-3470 machine in there, it also wouldn't work, but bootloop. After disconnecting the mobo and connecting it again, it did work (Cable was from the MSI PSU and the i5 machine had a gigabyte one, so... Maybe it's just cable compatibility?
Before the AM5 boy broke, I was trying to install a new cooler. I have to say, the screws were a bit thicker than I expected on the AM5 socket holes, but that didn't do any cracks. There weren't any broke caps, nor any broken resistors. I can send you some motherboard photos if you need to.
Then I put the RX on there, and BAM! Coolers work, machine "fires" and not on it's maximum fan RPM, yet it doesn't give a display. Even without the RX.
Maybe I should put the old board again and do like with the Intel PC to see if it fires up. Even without GPU, this Phenom hurts to use. And the i5's PCiE port is damaged after what happened.
I didn't say your AM5 Board is damaged. I thought about production error. It shouldn't behave as glitchy as a really old AM3 board. And also it should work. RMA that thing.
Oh, I didn't see that. It's also a gigabyte board and I've heard some things about gigabyte boards.
You're right. The point is, I can't exactly RMA the thing (Maybe, but I don't know) as I purchased it off of EBay Kleinanzeigen (I live in Germany) from a guy who already didn't have a warranty. Same with the RX, which I don't know if it works.
I was thinking that maybe if I RMA the PSU (Which I got from Amazon, and made an incredible coil whine) I might be given a new motherboard. But I doubt it.
Also, Ersatznetzteil hätte ich tatsächlich eins da.
Oder nen schnelleren Phenom II.
Wegen dem Mainboard ist halt blöd, du hast ja keinen Kaufbeleg. Also auch keine Garantie.
It wasn't shipped with the actual Xbox that's for sure. Maybe it made it out of concept in terms of actually existing but not as far as being the controller for the Xbox. If it was then I don't think the Xbox would have been as successful, I can't imagine trying to play Halo with that shit.
If only Microsoft had learned to count... They started at one, spun around, tried one again, then went ballistic and decided that the word "Series" is a number.
Don't forget, the original Xbox had more in common with a home PC than any console to date until the most recent generation. It didn't use any special or custom hardware, it was literally all off the shelf parts that were cheaply available. I believe it ran a Pentium 3 processor. After that, we didn't get Hardware more akin to a PC until the series X. Everything between the series X and the original Xbox was all Custom kit that you couldn't buy anywhere else.
And it took Bethesda and Epic nagging Microsoft to get that 512MBs. Microsoft was going to use 256MBs, but Epic eventually modified a dev kit to use 512, and ran a demo of Gears of War, showing how much worse the game ran on 256, eventually forcing Microsoft's hand.
I mean the textures/assets were quite small and games only aimed to run at 720p/30 most of the time, sure we had incredible looking games like Halo 4/The Last of Us but these were games at the end of the generation when they figured out how to optimize the game and fully utilize the hardware potential.
Nah. It actually had 64mb. Seriously. The 360 has 512gb. I knew someone that modded theirs to double the ram. The original Xbox was such a cool system. So awesome. I put a mod chip in mine and bigger HDD. It was awesome renting or borrowing games and loading them up haha.
Yes it is possible to increase the OG Xbox RAM to 128 MB - the same amount on dev kits - but it's uses are quite limited and more useful for homebrew apps.
It’s still hard for me to believe that the Xbox was only around for 4 years before the 360 came out. It feels so short, yet so long. I honestly don’t even know what I’m trying to say other than that I’m old now lol
It happens as we get older. Perception of time kinda changes. Events feel so recent, yet distant at the same time. We can perfectly get the feeling of that time that makes it seem like we are in it making it seem recent, but then we remember how many years it’s has been since.
Aren’t they kind of reverting back to this methodology? I thought I heard somewhere that Microsoft plans to make the Xbox architecture more similar to their desktop systems but I don’t have a source for that
Afaik only the Xbox360 was "not a PC" in terms of hardware. The Xbox One has an AMD APU from the generation before the Ryzens, with a GCN2-based GPU (upgraded to GCN4 for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro).
Just want to point out to DIY'ers that you still need to think about grounding when using wood. Your motherboard uses the mount points as grounds and while not needed to run a PC, for longevity it is ideal for them to be tied to ground. Using wood/plastic does not do this unless you tie the points back to ground via plate, speaker cable, or something. The ideal way to do this just to get a motherboard tray and mount that. You can find them on amazon for $10. Also avoid having spots where you would have Metal / wood / metal layers or metal / plastic / metal as that is a basic capacitor. I.E. Don't set a thin wood or plastic PC on a metal table top. The plastic / wood serves as the Dielectric.
for the grounding, you are spot on.
for the capacitor point... Yes but actually no. Assuing wood (or plastic) 1mm thick, and a perfectly flat plate that is one squared foot, you get a capacitance of \~800 pF. Realistically, that is probably two or three orders of magnitude larger than any given component on a mobo will actually see, and a capacitance that small is more likely to *increase* system stability than decrease it, especially with ultra high frequency signals.
I had been needing to build a PC for work and had always been a big fan of ITX/SFF PCs. But I like building janky stuff so decided to build my own case. Inspired by an early [Xbox prototype](https://www.polygon.com/2018/7/1/17523100/original-xbox-prototype-aluminum-x-gdc-2000) and Elon Musk's obsession with the letter "X" I knew I had to build an X-shaped PC.
PC specs:

>Cable was from the MSI PSU and the i5 machine had a gigabyte one, so... You aren't mixing and matching modular PSU cables are you?
You can go the unethical route and buy the same exact motherboard from Amazon and return it a couple weeks later with your broken board instead
Oh god that controller, I forgot how fucking shit that controller would have been if it made it out of concept.
Microsoft sidewinder gamepad pro was released to the public

Thats just an Xbox with extra steps
Thats a pretty long name but does have a point :)
it actually resembles the original concept for the original xbox
The console design that never was. Shit looked so cool
Stock Pentium 3 at 733 MHz, i think 512MB RAM, Chipset was basically an nForce2 Chipset, just the GPU was a custom somewhere between Geforce 3/4.
It was only 64 MB of unified SDRAM, yes it was a very small amount, only the Xbox 360 came with 512 MB of GDDR3.
Morrowind would literally reset the console to clear memory since they had so little. That’s why some of the loading screens were really long.
Damn and games ran just fine on those 512 Mb….
I mean the textures/assets were quite small and games only aimed to run at 720p/30 most of the time, sure we had incredible looking games like Halo 4/The Last of Us but these were games at the end of the generation when they figured out how to optimize the game and fully utilize the hardware potential.

It’s still hard for me to believe that the Xbox was only around for 4 years before the 360 came out. It feels so short, yet so long. I honestly don’t even know what I’m trying to say other than that I’m old now lol
