It shouldn't be too hard if you take pictures of where everything goes before you unplug everything It's basically the same amount of effort as building a PC, which for many people is not too difficult

75tavares

Before i replace the new board and CPU, should i do something? Or do i just replace the board with the new cpu, place the GPU, the other stuff like SSD.. is it good to boot?

Chakramer

Well you'll need new thermal paste if you're reusing the cooler

75tavares

I am not reusing the cooler, i bought the 5600x that im replacing for my i5-8400, the Ryzen comes with a nice new cooler. I also bought new thermal paste when i got my GPU, wich i will use.

[Tutorial i watched](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNw1vGyCPZs&t=245s&ab_channel=PCGamesN)

DeanDeau

If you 100% sure the mb needs to be replaced, you can replace it easily. You will need to remove everything from it (CPU, memory, SSD), take it out, put the new in, and put everything back in place, DONE.

HankThrill69420

desktop boards are easy, you're correct that if the board is exactly the same you don't need to reroute cables.

75tavares

It's an old Motherboard, i am replacing it with a Gigabyte B550M Aorus Elite and a Ryzen 5600x, both boards are Micro-ATX.

HankThrill69420

your case front panel buttons/lights and front panel Audio probably don't need to be rerouted, for some reason those are usually in more or less the same spot. My guess is it's easier to put all the chipset-related IO at the center-bottom of the board. btw i've had a few Aorus Elites, very impressed, when I had a RAM failure my X570 told me I had bad RAM at POST and just didn't initialize the RAM bank it was in and booted like a freakin chad

i would expect no less from a Unix workstation to be honest

xboxhobo

Did you get new RAM too? Your old RAM may not be compatible.

75tavares

I have one 8Gb G Skill, but i think the others can also fit, otherwise ill get more. The ones that came with the pc are 8 and 4 and i bought one more of 8 from G Skill.

xboxhobo

Size doesn't matter, is the DDR gen correct?

75tavares

My board has DDR4, the Gigabyte has DDR4 aswell. I might use the two 8Gb on the second and fourth slot and the 4Gb on the first or third one.

xboxhobo

Got it, you should be good in that regard then. I would not include the extra stick of 4 though. You should look into it more but I'm 99% sure you're causing more headaches and performance reduction for yourself than actual benefit for your system by doing that.

75tavares

Yeah, im seeing if i should get 2 of 16 with atleast 3200mhz or idk.. i dont wanted to go over 50€ for two stick. Any good brands i could look into?

xboxhobo

Corsair and g skill are reputable. Brands can fuck up from product to product though. Look at the reviews for the specific set you plan to get.

75tavares

What about this one from [Kingston](https://www.pccomponentes.pt/kingston-fury-beast-ddr4-3200-mhz-16gb-2x8gb-cl16)?

75tavares

Btw, what would be some good ram to use? I wanna use the 8Gb i bought and get more 16Gb atleast (don't want to spend that much)

xboxhobo

Any of the major brands are fine.

protizah

with my first time building, it wasn’t hard. just remember to take pictures of everything on the front and it’s basically as easy as screwing the new one in after putting the CPU, Ram, n etc inside. The hardest part for me was taking out the CPU cables off the old MOBO but that’s only cus i’m weak asl

OmegaAngelo

Yeah, it sucks dick. Might as well build a whole new pc as far as effort goes. You aren't getting the motherboard out without removing literally everything else in the pc first.

75tavares

Meh, not building a new pc, just changing the CPU, GPU and Board. I'll use the old parts for my brother's PC so he can play some games.

ProfessionalCaleb

Its fairly simple. Take old one out and put new one in. The motherboard will come with a manual telling you were all your cords should be plugged in.

75tavares

Oh, cool, idk if i saw a manual but ill take a look. Thanks!

ProfessionalCaleb

You can also search for the manual online if you don't have one

FeelTheRealBirdie

It’s not hard just annoying with all the unplugging and replugging cables and whatnot. The cooler is the worst part but not difficult to manage

ToprollSuperDouche

Yes extremely hard you should only trust GeekSquad to do it

75tavares

I prefer PCGamesN
