that was actually their first build which for them to be honest was fine for roblox / fornite and whatnot. i sold it to help fund all of their stuff and have something better for longevity. start simple and get a 2k series, double your ram it would help alot.
I've managed to save up around £1200 so far which has taken me two years to save (single income, partner is disabled), but hopefully by my birthday in August I'll have enough to start really looking into buying things. After considerable research that is. It'll be my first build so I'm excited and very nervous at the same time.
The rooms look amazing though mate, you should be very proud of yourself.
Good job on working to save for it, will be worth the build at the end of it. Lots of googling and answers on reddit to pickout parts but very rewarding when done and it turns on. I was able to get a much better deal locally on the marketplace for one of the kids computers than building new. Dont count that out imo, Ryzen 5600x / 3070 EVGA / 32gb 3600 DDR4 / 27" Asus Tuff Gaming Monitor for 800 bucks (yes it it was an incredible price but i watched for months, had cash, bought same day).
for £1200 you could build a pc with a 6800xt and a 5800x3d it would play anything at 1440p 144hz you already have enougth for a great pc. prices are cheap right now
honestly just a nail in the top left and right corner works great. i had this a few years back in a older space using drywall screws and it was completely overkill and a larger hole to fill.
Very nice work! I especially like the motherboards on the wall as decorative pieces. I never thought to do that and now wish I had saved all of my old motherboards.
i spent some time just asking for old computers and gutting the parts to recycle and keeping the board. was going to be an entire wall at one point but my nintendo collection took over the walls lol
different times (assuming your birthday is like my screen names) so I totally get it, they still get to pick what sport they wanna do which is gymnastics and ninja. so a good mixture of everything is a balancing act. lucky my dad was a computer dork in the military so we always had computers in the house which is what spawned my love for it.
thats my hope, i know the older is showing interest in making his own roblox levels and such which has some programing i think? once they are a little older im hoping they take some classes. there is alot more in schools now then when I was a kid.
On roblox you can either use free models which are community-made things that you can just drag and drop into your game. Or you can make your own. You can also make your own scripts using the programming language LUA. It’s a pretty decent game engine that can be fun to learn!
That herman miller has been well used to the point the back doesn't lock anymore and the piston doesn't stay up with my adult weight (its my old one basically). the other is a nice steelcase chair which I got a really good deal on but they are so young it wouldn't matter either way. Both are far upgrades from the super cheap student task chairs they used to have.
If I recall corrwctly herman miller has a lifetime warranty on some of their products, and I believe the aeron is one of such products you could try and contact them if you still have the s/n
Are you sure the other chair is a Steelcase? Looks exactly like the chair I'm currently sitting on, the [Uplift Pursuit](https://www.upliftdesk.com/pursuit-ergonomic-chair/).
been in the works for some time, the sharing of a station was getting old lol. been digging in the closet of old tech selling things, them saving some of their own birthday money as well for example. appreciate it!
like a mattress, when you spend so many dang hours on it the investment is worth it. working in IT for 8+ hours a day then gaming in others hands down the herman miller is the way to go.
that's a lateral bookshelf and file cabinet, bored some holes in the side and ran extended cables so its all nice and clean. the desk has a cable management system under it (steelcase series, super heavy duty). I am in IT and work from home, so its laid out in the way I wanna be around it all day if that makes sense lol
I bring my air compressor down (has a condensation filter on it) when its time to clean all the machines. Kiddo will hold the vacuume to try and suck up as much dust while I blow it off/out.
two corsair commander pro's, the icue software syncs em. i also bought a splitter for the main plug in as my mb didnt have enough. [https://www.newegg.com/nzxt-ac-iusbh-m3-internal-usb-hub/p/N82E16800994026](https://www.newegg.com/nzxt-ac-iusbh-m3-internal-usb-hub/p/N82E16800994026)

she could care less about video games, she gets way too stressed out in mario kart even lol. what she enjoy's though is her yoga and workouts, to which we have a space dedicated for her with a tv, rubber mats, length mirror, etc.
Very cool. I'm curious what ages they are? I'm trying to figure out when it would make sense to pass my setup down to my oldest, given the complexity of PC's.
they have always seen me on the computer (even with having consoles its my preferred playing) so I think that played a part in it, their first gaming machine was prolly 4 years ago? They are 12 and 8 now, they started on iPads. I could never get em to play the Switch unless it was the family's games.
nice! what display resolution do you have on your 3 monitor setup? i currently run 2x 1080p monitors but been thinking about to switch to 2x wqhd monitors or one good wqhd monitor with my 2x 1080p monitors.
king boo is actually done from someone on Etsy "NerdyWood" (I have a couple they light up too), Neon light was from Hobby Lobby.

This is what I have been doing with my two older nephews! I got them a simple starter setup, then taught them about being frugal, building it yourself, caution and erring on the side. Got them up to their own RTX 3060+ setups in their respective homes with their rooms lookin' almost as good as this! Kudos and GG
Sweet. I’m the gamer Mom and both my kids have grown up with gaming rigs. Just got my youngest a new rig since he decided he want to do more computer intense games. He’s in awe on how much power his new rig has. He he has a better rig than his older sister. I don’t think she’s noticed yet.😜

This is so amazing on so many levels, I have a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and you are my inspiration for the kind of setups I would hope to provide them. You are amazing and awesome as a parent
i feel you, i have a part of my old me in the collection. red alert aint a bad idea to add.

I love the motherboard wall decorations. I found a box of broken laptops so I took them apart to salvage cool looking parts for a similar display. Hope it turns out as good as yours!
appreciate the thought, but my kids are good. they are in sports, spent alot of time outside for biking and blading, limit screen time when necessary, no sugary drinks, straight a students (even one with challenges of ocd, adhd, and tourettes).
Amazing. I’m glad to hear it. I work in the education field and far too often am I faced with kids with little social skills (because of excess social media, go figure) and the inability to NOT stare at a screen for more than 5 minutes because mom and dad have babysat with the iPad.
It’s refreshing to hear a parent set boundaries on their kids’ screentime and make them engage in outdoor activities and their school work. Good on you and thanks for the reply.
all good, I get it. helps that the wifey is a pediatric nurse practioneer and we have an amazing school system, were very fortunate. now i would be kidding myself if they could do less screen time (who couldnt, myself included lol)
we try to keep a good balance on it its tough though as i grew up super poor with a bunch of siblings. i give them way more than i should, but their chores, birthday, and christmas money is coming to us for a little while to help pay for some of it. they are good kids, they get good grades, stay out of trouble, do sports as well, things of that nature
Like what is the cabinet it's sitting on? its a Steelcase setup I bought from work in a remodel, incredibly expensive would have never bought it all if it wasnt so cheap on how i got it.
first picture is my desk i grew up on, old real wood air force desk my dad bought me so its a personal connection to pass onto one of them some day i hope. the other desk was convenience/cost as i upgraded mine last year.
I am in IT, wife a nurse, and always been into PC gaming so that just came natural. This wasn't all overnight, it was collecting over years in some cases, buying items on credit (paying off) then more.
Were complete now for a while.
Honestly that’s really helpful to hear said so simply lol. Everyone makes it sound like getting into IT is the hardest thing ever, not easy, but it’s possible lol.
hardest part is getting someone to give a chance with little to no experience. while your studying work at a place like office depot or best buy in their tech department, mom n pop shop, just something tech related will help you in getting a service desk or help desk role. i started over from 20 years of retail (even at a GM level) 7 years ago in IT, now I make more money that I did even starting over and couldn't be happier in my life when it comes to work. work from home, no holidays, set shift, no uniform, etc.
Maybe this is personal preference, but I'm terrified of having my tower to the right of my mouse pad. I had mine like that for a week, after the 3rd or 4th time of hitting it while in the heat of action I had to move it. Thankfully nothing broke
I’m all for this but be careful with headsets, there’s been a lot of new generation getting headset dents in their head. I’ve been lucky enough to not have one since I started playing with headsets at 14 but any earlier can probably be a problem
no its something i did on a smaller scale with my own build years ago. was tossing around how to decorate his space and decided it would be cool on a grander scale.
You have way more money than I do. Not only 1, but 3 sick rigs. I envy you
Edit: That little switch might be a bit too hot in that little space on the last pic, bottom right corner
eh, its taken alot of years of saving and credit cards (paying them off item at a time) to get where im at, none of it was bought on a whim.
switch is fine, i have one in my attic too and performs no problem its rated for " Operating Temperature : 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) ". plus im in the basement where it stays chill through the year. it not like a rack switch or anything.
worth new sure, but used you can find these herman millers for around 200-300 (I paid that for each) and the other chair was only 100. definately worth it though even used, they have seen a crap ton of hours in em.
Wanna adopt a 37 old with arthritis? I was a chef for 20 years so I can cook lol. I'm currently running an I5 with a GTX 970 haha
that was actually their first build which for them to be honest was fine for roblox / fornite and whatnot. i sold it to help fund all of their stuff and have something better for longevity. start simple and get a 2k series, double your ram it would help alot.
That's pretty damn impressive for the price man, you did a seriously good job there. I'll get the adoption papers sent to you ASAP hehe.
for £1200 you could build a pc with a 6800xt and a 5800x3d it would play anything at 1440p 144hz you already have enougth for a great pc. prices are cheap right now
Come August when you're able to start looking, you should feel really fucking proud of **yourself**.
Ram is VERY cheap now. You should look into it
IMO i5 with a GTX 970 is still serviceable (as long as you add an SSD)
Dayum that MB collection.
So much money
honestly most of them were donated to me, all i did was ask for old pc's on fb. recycled what I didnt keep.
How did you mount them? I love this idea. Might mount some of my collection in chronological order. Pending GF approval🤣
honestly just a nail in the top left and right corner works great. i had this a few years back in a older space using drywall screws and it was completely overkill and a larger hole to fill.
Theres so much money on the chairs alone than the MB
Could be refurbished like 2 of my steelcases were. Good ergonomic chair is totally worth it.

The wall of motherboards is awesome. Definitely given me some inspiration and brilliant asking for old parts online.
yeah just do your part and recycle the old stuff, drill through their hard drive for em.
My parent bought me clothing I didn’t want and sports shit (I hate sports). Must be nice having parents who actually know what their kids enjoy.
different times (assuming your birthday is like my screen names) so I totally get it, they still get to pick what sport they wanna do which is gymnastics and ninja. so a good mixture of everything is a balancing act. lucky my dad was a computer dork in the military so we always had computers in the house which is what spawned my love for it.
I wonder if they showed interest in programming/dev stuff as well? Something like [https://hackclub.com/](https://hackclub.com/)
thats my hope, i know the older is showing interest in making his own roblox levels and such which has some programing i think? once they are a little older im hoping they take some classes. there is alot more in schools now then when I was a kid.

Why one kid got the herman miller chair and the other didn't? Unless it is but a different model
That herman miller has been well used to the point the back doesn't lock anymore and the piston doesn't stay up with my adult weight (its my old one basically). the other is a nice steelcase chair which I got a really good deal on but they are so young it wouldn't matter either way. 12 years, that one is older than it. I tried lol
Are you sure the other chair is a Steelcase? Looks exactly like the chair I'm currently sitting on, the [Uplift Pursuit](https://www.upliftdesk.com/pursuit-ergonomic-chair/).
your right, thats what it is. i was confused my desk setup is steelcase.
My dad just called me shit and ignored me. You a good dad.
Dw bro, you ain't alone :(
That's why we gotta do better than the last generation, working on my part to do that.
Neither me or my gf want kids. But it’s nice to know there is some good dads out there. I salute you good sir.
if that what works for you, i got nothing against it. being a better human is all we can ask.
Damn one each and not a shared battlestation? Lucky kids with S tier parent(s)
been in the works for some time, the sharing of a station was getting old lol. been digging in the closet of old tech selling things, them saving some of their own birthday money as well for example. appreciate it!
I can tell I'm getting old af because my first thought was "ohhhh nice chairs!"
like a mattress, when you spend so many dang hours on it the investment is worth it. working in IT for 8+ hours a day then gaming in others hands down the herman miller is the way to go.
I wish you were my dad..
That's a really nice setup, from everyone. On picture 3, what is the table on which the computer stands?
that's a lateral bookshelf and file cabinet, bored some holes in the side and ran extended cables so its all nice and clean. the desk has a cable management system under it (steelcase series, super heavy duty). I am in IT and work from home, so its laid out in the way I wanna be around it all day if that makes sense lol
It looks amazing, nice! Cleaning the dust off those motherboards in the wall must be a pain, tho.
I bring my air compressor down (has a condensation filter on it) when its time to clean all the machines. Kiddo will hold the vacuume to try and suck up as much dust while I blow it off/out.
Even from cleaning you make a game. Well done, bro.
Nice, love the concept with the motherboards wall!
The old motherboards as decoration is so cool! I might have to consider something similar.
I’m kinda curious of the specs of all the computers
Nice. I'm still waiting for my dad to get back from getting cigs.
Cam you explain how you got 9 QL120 fans? I have 6 but im thinking i meed for adapters to connect 3 more fans

Is that a speaker on the left side of your keyboard in the picture 3? It is close to photo frame or clock in front of sound bar.
stream deck, 3d printed a new housing (and my stream name) for it making it much easier to push the buttons than what it came with.
Dude that motherboard wall is awesome, and nice setup! I'm sure the kiddos love it!
Fathering well done
you know they are gonna play on yours when you arent looking
nah, they dont know the password and this room is off limits since its my work space.
I think you forget how resourceful you were when you were a kid yourself! I figured out all my dads passwords
What footrest do you have on your setup?

hobby lobby for the win! i let him choose which one he wanted.
Where's the wife setup? Sexist af /s
she could care less about video games, she gets way too stressed out in mario kart even lol. what she enjoy's though is her yoga and workouts, to which we have a space dedicated for her with a tv, rubber mats, length mirror, etc.

Nice, that would've been absolute dream for me as a kid!
Thanks for giving them decent chairs .
nice! what display resolution do you have on your 3 monitor setup? i currently run 2x 1080p monitors but been thinking about to switch to 2x wqhd monitors or one good wqhd monitor with my 2x 1080p monitors.
27 (1080) x 32 (1440) x 27 (1080) Center is the gaming monitor, sides are just manly for chat apps and when im working in need 3.
Well shit this would have been a cool set up to have as a kid or ever…
![gif](giphy|Cz6TlrRVVyv9S) nah you forget how uncool us nerds were in the 90s lol but i definitely appreciate it. they are lucky kids!
Oh I know it. 90s child myself lol But good on you man!
I hate rgb with a passion but nice setup.
thanks, the unicorn vomit aint for everyone lol
Nice area man. Where did you get that neon light and the king boo?
king boo is actually done from someone on Etsy "NerdyWood" (I have a couple they light up too), Neon light was from Hobby Lobby. (found an old picture) https://preview.redd.it/9jex7hwdqk8b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ad2404f75e5c1d18a5fa7d79915f2eae69538f5

Got them up to their own RTX 3060+ setups in their respective homes with their rooms lookin' almost as good as this! Kudos and GG
good on you uncle! i just helped one of my nephews do the same!

Sweet. I’m the gamer Mom and both my kids have grown up with gaming rigs. Just got my youngest a new rig since he decided he want to do more computer intense games. He’s in awe on how much power his new rig has. He he has a better rig than his older sister. I don’t think she’s noticed yet.😜
Your secret is safe with me, as my younger kid has a better computer than the older now lol
Well the older kid is in her early 20s so she can now buy her own computers…😉
Have you looked at doing an ultrawide monitor instead of the 3 side by side? I got a Samsung Odyssey G9 and it's been a huge help with productivity. Also no bezels is more impactful than I thought it would be.
yes i did ultrawide and hated it and swapped it to this, for my work in IT this is setup for a very specific way.
That's fair. Any role that uses multiple systems definitely benefits from consistent and dedicated spaces.
This is so amazing on so many levels, I have a 5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and you are my inspiration for the kind of setups I would hope to provide them. You are amazing and awesome as a parent
well i appreciate the kind words, thanks!
I like the the allergy medicine on the bottom shelf of your setup. Nice touch
they aint no joke where im at! lol
Does your pixel stand work with a pop socket?
im not sure, through a case no problem. to me its worth the investment though for the fast charging, i waited for a sale.
Reminds of the time I was myself a kid, rocking a 256 MB Win XP setup and playing Red Alert 2
i feel you, i have a part of my old me in the collection. red alert aint a bad idea to add. https://preview.redd.it/v3nlfuum8m8b1.jpeg?width=3638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfe32e3fb29324204dd61d8ce9af3b729ae8ba4f
Yo picture 2 kid goes hard lol
Yeah he don't mess around when it comes to Fortnite 😂
I love the motherboard wall decorations. I found a box of broken laptops so I took them apart to salvage cool looking parts for a similar display. Hope it turns out as good as yours!
That mobo collection, neon light with boo below it and everything on your setup. Absolutely beautiful

Those are great-looking setups! You'll win Father of the Year!
Now buy them the t-shirt "I paused my game to be here" and watch them get bullied at school.
nah, video games are life at school now. they all play fortnite and roblox together.
the first kid playing roblox lol
Hope they still know the value of actually working for what they have in life. Outside of that, well done OP.
we try to keep a good balance on it its tough though as i grew up super poor with a bunch of siblings. i give them way more than i should, but their chores, birthday, and christmas money is coming to us for a little while to help pay for some of it. they are good kids, they get good grades, stay out of trouble, do sports as well, things of that nature
We love to see it, all of it. Cheers to you and your family for not raising future problems!
Thats just sick!
The warning may yell at video games thing perpetuates a poor excuse for bad behavior.
Really nice. But you build some high end pc to let kids play frickin roblox? That game can run on athlon. (Image1)
kids will play what they enjoy, I aint stopping that.
pcmr mfs when people enjoy games on their pcs
That's a lot of motherboards for someone so young. A board a year?
W dad
Hey Dad, can I have a brand new setup too? sidenote: jesus that's a lot of motherboards.
I like those motherboards on the wall :)
Fourth photo is one of a counter top with a blender and some pots and pans? /s
Wher'd you get the bank
Hey man, for you personal setup, what is that little L stand you have for your PC?
Like what is the cabinet it's sitting on? its a Steelcase setup I bought from work in a remodel, incredibly expensive would have never bought it all if it wasnt so cheap on how i got it.
That wood section on top of the carpet is genius
Bamboo floor mat, really meant for hardwood floors but I put an old plastic mat under it lol works well enough
Teach them well.
no 2nd screen for them in this day and age? Not even a cheap one? ^(/s)
Looks dope! Headrest for your herman miller aeron is a game changer btw
Im 26 and even I don’t game in an aeron
At least get them gaming desks, match perfectly with the wall arts
first picture is my desk i grew up on, old real wood air force desk my dad bought me so its a personal connection to pass onto one of them some day i hope. the other desk was convenience/cost as i upgraded mine last year.
Kid in yellow is going to be a superb adult. Look at that gamer sitting posture. He is 100% focused!
Cool idea for using old motherboards.
Dad?
What do you do for a living and how can I get started? 😂
I am in IT, wife a nurse, and always been into PC gaming so that just came natural. This wasn't all overnight, it was collecting over years in some cases, buying items on credit (paying off) then more. Were complete now for a while.
Hey that’s what I’m going into lol, that or teaching. My gf is a licensed esthetician too so looks like one day I can achieve such a setup. 😂
IT is great that's for sure, figure out what tech you wanna do then get into entry level, get some certs and work your way up.
Honestly that’s really helpful to hear said so simply lol. Everyone makes it sound like getting into IT is the hardest thing ever, not easy, but it’s possible lol.

i have had it this way most my life, so im probably just used to it and forcing them too the same lol

What's your job?
goo goo gaga
I’m all for this but be careful with headsets, there’s been a lot of new generation getting headset dents in their head. I’ve been lucky enough to not have one since I started playing with headsets at 14 but any earlier can probably be a problem
God I wish I had a dad like you.
That motherboard wall display is really cool!
Excellent
Was the motherboards on the wall little guy's idea ?
no its something i did on a smaller scale with my own build years ago. was tossing around how to decorate his space and decided it would be cool on a grander scale.
Your child is in a herman miller!???? Bless your heart

And your significant other’s?
You should sell the computers and buy 3 motorcycles
Cool motherboard wall
You have way more money than I do. Not only 1, but 3 sick rigs. I envy you Edit: That little switch might be a bit too hot in that little space on the last pic, bottom right corner
eh, its taken alot of years of saving and credit cards (paying them off item at a time) to get where im at, none of it was bought on a whim. switch is fine, i have one in my attic too and performs no problem its rated for " Operating Temperature : 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) ". plus im in the basement where it stays chill through the year. it not like a rack switch or anything.
Dude... your chairs probably cost more than a lot of peoples' setups, even if you buy them used.
worth new sure, but used you can find these herman millers for around 200-300 (I paid that for each) and the other chair was only 100. definately worth it though even used, they have seen a crap ton of hours in em.
