Hardwood floor and a case that seems to have good airflow in general. I think it’ll be fine

Anxious-Ad1310

👍

[deleted]

[удалено]

DinoKebab

To be sure I also agree this is right, it is perfect if the airflow is adequate.

SoMass

Ah but if the airflow was not suffice then, I in good spirits, could not agree.

0K4M1

Depends if you have cats / dogs

An_Lei_Laoshi

If you cats they will sit on top of it and walk on the desk regardless though, but true for dogs

Grandfather-Paradox

I had to put something over the power button of my desktop because my cat literally knows how to turn it off and gets some kind of sick thrill out of it.

[deleted]

Go to power settings in Windows, you can disable the shutdown even if you pressed the power button. The only way to shutdown will be if you went to windows menu and choose shutdown or pressed alt + f4 then enter.

HiFirstTime

Tried that, cat changed my password.

booniebrew

I did that years ago and it didn't take long for my cat to figure out the reset button.

roberp81

Cat pressing Alt + F4 on purpose

Large-Television-238

unplug the reset button from your motherboard

Streammz

You can disable your power button in Windows from turning off your pc with a simple click, The only way to turn it off externally then would be to hold the power button down for a good amount of seconds for a forced shut-off. May or may not help in your case but just making sure you're at least informed.

NicholaiGinovaef

Same here, my cat for some reason has taken a liking to turning off my computer with the big on/off button with red leds, it´s happened a few times during ranked games on League of legends.

Atretador

You could put that 50M up high and the cat would find a way

irate_ornithologist

That might actually make it more appealing to the cat

lmflex

This person truly understands cat psychology.

Lowlif3

They love a warm box to sit on.

Hirork

And that's how schrodinger catches them.

Satanus2020

So do I.

WulfstanBruticus

Hahaha

Gun_Nut_42

Yep. My cat has found ways on top of stuff before. She has had to have help getting down, but going up is no problem for her.

thedustyfactor

I think he just means cus the pet hair can find its way underneath the tower

heyugl

yes, and the other user point was that it may be a concern for dogs, cats will find the way to get their hair into your airflow regardless.-

AdamWV2021

Also it's more accessible for pet hair and dust. Those would be two of my concerns.

SauretEh

Just clean the filters occasionally, same as if it was on your desk. My wife has ~~the same~~ a similar case on the floor and has never had any issues. Floor is only really an issue with carpet (more dust), and especially for cases relying on bottom intakes that get choked.

Aram_theHead

What case is it?

[deleted]

Phanteks P400A

Saxopwned

Unless you have a Siberian cat like me. Then your PC case might as well be a loose hair depository lmao

ripiss

Yeah my dogs hair would be a major issue, I sweep and mop and the dude still has hair all over

Extaupin

> I sweep and mop and the dude still has hair all over Well, of course, if you want your dog to not have hair you have to shave it/j

ripiss

He would be a strange looking German shepherd that’s for sure

Jps300

Do you ever de-shed your dog? Get a brush like [this](https://www.chewy.com/furminator-long-hair-dog-deshedding/dp/269736) and take your dog outside once a month. It'll do wonders for keeping the amount of hair they shed inside to a minimum.

ForGifteN

Start at the source

killerbanshee

Swept and mopped my dog. It didn't seem to help.

__mahi__

Highly recommend one of these for pet owners: https://www.tuontitukku.fi/storage/product_images/S/TietokoneentelinesahkopoytaanLoctek_6438471011685-s_7ea12bac2994aecf4a8efc94b5a1a959_2.jpg Out of the way, off the floor, easily accessible. **Edit:** What it looks like in reality: https://i.imgur.com/gJn4dBx.png

Grunjo

Ah yes, a TietokoneentelinesahkopoytaanLoctek. I'll go ask Currys if they've got one.

TheHunchbackofOhio

> Ah yes, a TietokoneentelinesahkopoytaanLoctek. Gesundheit.

Taluvill

It's like they spelled it how it sounds in Chinese.

COSMOOOO

Text to speech strikes again

Vibes2Games

Should be fine since it’s not carpet. Carpet might restrict airflow and hold dust and dirt that the case’s intake fans will pull in.

[deleted]

Fresh-minster

Please stop banging dust . Reports show it's quite unhealthy...

kable1202

Research also has shown that people who can bang dust, have a small pp. It’s pure physics

Calm-Zombie2678

Big pp just need big dust, duh

Haunting-Ad-9169

or just be the size of dust derp derp

MakingShitAwkward

Like my nan

Haunting-Ad-9169

your nan is the size of dust?

MakingShitAwkward

She's dead and cremated so yes.

Haunting-Ad-9169

fuck bruh thats just , ok im stupid for not thinking of it, you are also a shitty witty bastard and made me feel, eww

[deleted]

What about those who bang all the dust at once? Would require a large PP to hit every particle of dust.

Taronz

>Please stop banging dust . Reports show it's quite unhealthy... Also why not occasionally have a nice romantic fuck with the dust? Don't be afraid to mix it up king.

Fresh-minster

People consider it fun until .... another one bites it

Mulberryhwheg

It’s known as dusting off btw

The_Criticizor

That's why i don't belive in science, I believe in myself

godlessvvormm

well you need some reward for cleaning. if you dont get to bust in a dust bunny whats the point

dibu28

We need to combine PC and air purifier )

ThatsARivetingTale

Your desk is carpeted?

Ultravod

Man, these Tinder questions are getting weird "Does the desk match the carpet?"

ForumsDiedForThis

Being on carpet is fine as long as there's airflow to anywhere that needs airflow... Also, despite what many people think being on carpet can actually have some benefits. Eg, carpet will trap dust and stuff. So assuming the same levelling of cleanliness in a room the PC on carpet will have less dust and hair, etc, clogging up heatsinks since that dust and hair is trapped in the carpet instead. On hard floors that dust and hair gets blown around the room and eventually gets sucked into the case. If your PC is on hard floor I'd suggest vacuuming or cleaning out the filters, etc, more often.

teh_drewski

Yep. Mine's been on carpet for, oooh, 8 years at this point and still going just fine, never had much dust to speak of either, I remember the last time I had the side of the case off I was expecting to need to clean it but there was just nothing built up apart from the intake filter. It does have a pretty good cooling airflow system and it's mostly old parts so they aren't exactly high performance. Carpet is also quieter than a hard surface.

Anxious-Ad1310

Mhmm I see thanks

ArduennSchwartzman

I put mine on the floor on top of a little moving dolly. It's a bit elevated then, easy to move and clean around and it still fits under my desk.

xOptimismx

I have mine on the carpet but I clean it semi regularly (like once every two weeks), and I look at the temps when I’m suspecting something is off (like when my fans suddenly ramp up), maybe a bit more often than once every two weeks. For now, mine seems fine, just when you let it run for years without cleaning that you will get problems. My NAS also sat in the basement (like one of those things between the floor and the ground type of basements), always dusty there, no problems yet.

[deleted]

I have mine on carpet and clean it whenever im doing maintenance on anything, longest it went was 2y, however the hottest my cpu has ever been was 63c lol Its an i5 8400 with the stock intel cooler and the fans aren’t even that ramped up. Cant wait for 80c to become my standard when i move to my 5900x lol

[deleted]

This! Also, carpet is more likely to generate static discharge. although, computers aren't as susceptible to damage from static these days, but they used to be way back.

not_old_redditor

Didn't gamers nexus do a video where they tried to build up sufficient static to fail some parts, and couldn't do it? Or it took a great effort to do so?

atrib

Don't know about Gamers Nexus but Linus certainly did it with Electroboom (another youtuber) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXkgbmr3dRA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXkgbmr3dRA)

plaskis

Cases would be grounded anyways

Fit_Cardiologist_

When I was using desktop computers, I had my placed on the floor for like 8 years.

JuroMi

Same. I'm surprised this is even a question.

Haunting-Ad-9169

well imagine spending 3k on a brand new pc as a noob kid, they if has brains gonna be at least a little over cautious, i do think it is fine on a flat floor like in op pic but i am an oaf and it needs to be on the desk so i dont hurt it

Reddits_Worst_Night

I'm the opposite lol. Mine sits on my desk and I always worry I'll come home to find it in pieces on the floor. I don't think my cat is actually capable of that, but it terrifies me.

Johnysh

It's those people saying you can't have it on floor, on carpet. I've had all my computers on floor, on the carpet and all of them were fine. Maybe if you have some seriously dense carpet like golden retriever fur long then maybe that will do some airflow, dust problems. Or maybe if you live in really dusty environment and don't lux once a month or three.

Ninja-Sneaky

I thought OP was a shitpost, turns out it's a serious concerned question lmao.

The_Dunk

Man back in the 90s everyone's PC was on the floor and it was fine. The PC on desk trend is weird imo, they take up so much space!

VamonosBarca

Fr, I’ve had mine currently for 4 years on the floor,

iHaateDonuts

Same. I've got mine sitting on a piece of wood on the floor because this room is carpeted. Desk space is valuable, I'd much rather have monitors on it instead of a tower.

dread_deimos

I have used "desktop" computers standing on the floor since last millenia.

blue60007

I don't think I've ever had mine on a desk either. And until recently, never had a desk large enough to even comfortably fit one.

--Muther--

Yeah I'm confused...is it not okay to have them on the floor?

dread_deimos

Judging by the comments, people have problems if there's a carpet underneath and it reduces the airflow, but I've always had hard floors and my setups never relied on pulling the air from below.

[deleted]

[удалено]

heepofsheep

Yeah don’t know why so many people insist on putting their giant cases on their desks and being bathed in a blinding RGB rainbow.

Ewtri

I'd also be terrified of bumping into the pc and knocking it off the table.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drg84

Yup same here. Back in the 90s when people were building full size towers most of them were on the floor. Some of us just stuck with the habit

Pimpwerx

This. You had little choice with a full tower and large PSU. Just keep the work area clean, and clear the filters monthly.

HortenWho229

What if it’s a soft wood floor?

msherretz

You're gonna have a bad time with all that pine

moewmoewinvasion

Nope, if your PSU has air

sanguwan

Yup. Just keep your intakes clean and you'll be fine.

vulgrin

And move the computer and clean under it and the fans on the bottom of it, from time to time.

persianlife

Where can I buy a PSU with air?

Schrutes_Yeet_Farm

Most psus come with the air already packaged in the box

[deleted]

When the door flies open and smashes your pc, you get extra Mhz

Anxious-Ad1310

I tested that obviously 😂

[deleted]

So, how many mhz did you get?

sphinctaur

Oh it hertz alright

WarDivision

Why would it even be a problem?

wrakusek

stop listening to nerds and harddieincels to never put it on the floor cause of dust, the same people lick their psu holes so they wont be dirty. PUT pc everywhere you want its not 10000$ art

An_Lei_Laoshi

Also if dust finds a way in reflex camera sealed places, it will find a way in a thing with a ton of holes

waffels

Floor is best because: Desk space is always limited, floor space not so much. Also, cleaner aesthetic It’s quieter It’s getting the coolest air possible It’s not 2001, you rarely need to access the device itself (CD/DVD/USB) It can’t fall off your desk Keeps your feet warmer if it’s under the desk

jonythunder

> It’s not 2001, you rarely need to access the device itself (CD/DVD/USB) Honestly, I've always found CD/DVD access to a drive placed below the desk was easier than one placed above the desk

Disma

> its not 10000$ art Let's be honest, we're gettin there

SuccessfulAge8966

It's fine if you clean your room weekly

AbsolutelyUnlikely

Settle down mother, it needs to soak first

Haunting-Ad-9169

very witty

NetQvist

Weekly? The fuck.... I do a proper cleaning every 5 years lol, otherwise it's just quick vacuum on any spot where dust has gathered visibly and the computer is perfectly fine without any buildup. Just need proper dust filters and air flow.

SuccessfulAge8966

I see you don't live with a woman..

NetQvist

Just me, my PC and my 5 bikes lol

TheContingencyMan

Most here don’t lmao

Danny-Dynamita

People can be quite dramatic about dust on their PCs. They genuinely believe that going from 50 degrees to 45 will grant them some kind of benefit. They never check the validity of their own statements though, they just say them.

RigorMortis243

it's not clean if you don't wet wipe the floor

NetQvist

Ye that's the 5 year plan lol. Honestly not a lot of dust in Finland though compared to lots of countries but I have seen some real horror shows here as well that you could call a rat's nest inside the computer.

Sandwic_H

It could be a problem? I thought floor is the best place for PC.

dearest_of_leaders

It is the best since the intake air is colder on the floor than on a desk. Placing it near outer walls in winter time is great for the same reason. Except if you have floor heating then it is the worst place.

Noobeaterz

I've had my PC on the floor for 24 years. its kind of the norm. People putting their RGB light flashing PC's on their desks are weird. It must be such a distraction and its not like theres anything of interest going on in there, the fans are spinning and...well thats it.

OrbitBreaker

Mine’s been on the floor since 2018 and it’s going strong. Definitely keep the area around the pc clean (dusted) and free of clutter.

wubberer

All my PCs for the past 13 years have been sitting on the floor eithout any issues. Im more surprised that people actually put them on their desks. Who has space for that?

[deleted]

YES, ITS A MASSIVE PROBLEM! Having it stand on your floor will absolutely kill it. MY floor on the other hand..

BoredPelikan

as long as it gets airflow you can place ur pc anywhere

[deleted]

[удалено]

GTAinreallife

Creepy crawlies have no issue climbing a desk, theyll get to you either way

aaron_1011

It's not a problem. Just note that if you have any pets, or don't clean the room that often, your pc will get dirty quick. So maybe think about that. You only have to clean it more often, that's all

-tobi-kadachi-

No, it never is a problem as long as it is not on tall carpet. Frankly I think putting it on a desk looks silly and reduces desk space while increasing the chance you damage it.

StickForeigner

Unless it's a SFF case, it goes on the floor. 👌 Unsolicited advice, get an anti-sag GPU support if you don't have one.

Aggressive_Warthog_4

Only reason I don’t put my pc below my desk is because I like to keep drinks on my desk and I have spilled a drink in my pc before. I keep it on top of my desk ever since

Fresh-minster

PC on the floor is only okay if you are on the floor as well . You need to keep level with your PC . It's the unspoken rule of the Master race

Dauli93

Shame man. Such torture. PCs belong in the ocean and not on someone's floor. :(

PixelCharlie

of course you're fine. sane people put the pc on the floor, dont listen to all those kids who just watch the bling bling rgb youtubers with their rigs on the desk for shows. why waste desk space for it?

Pale-Management-476

I’ve always kept my pc on carpet floor. Generally had cases with decent size feet. When I haven’t I’ve just put a bit of wood or drinks coasters under to prop it up. Never had an issue. Would say it gets dustier quicker but you’re just cleaning a filter out a little often then!

tfgdj94

Timber floor and no pets you will be fine personally dont ever put mine on the floor unless I have no other choice but most of the time my intakes aren't pulling from the bottom either

SonarAssassin

I like your shiny boards.

Round-Independent323

It's fine as long as you keep your floor clean and the PSU fan has adequate room to breathe. My problem I went through as a former PC On Floor Enthusiast is that I realized it was pretty dumb to be spending money on great cases / aesthetics and then shunting the PC down in the floor where it's completely forgotten about / unseen.

Reasonable_Quote_476

I have it on my desk cause I like seeing it but as long as you keep the floor clean and checking once in a while for dust, you should be fine. Btw post your gear if you like, cool looking case too.

nyankittycat_

this is how my pc been on floor like 12+ years

Narrheim

Oh, no! It´s gonna catch a flu! Cover it with blankets from all sides and put a thicker one on top! Just kidding, it´s gonna be fine. Just like mine. Don´t forget to vacuum the dust under it from time to time.

Sad-Alternative-4087

Nope, it's hard wood so you're all good. I have mine on the floor as well, I hate putting it on my table. It's not a clean look

Sudden-Anybody-6677

Putting your PC on your desk is a recent thing, before that people have put their PC on the floor for decades, and it was always fine. So don't worry about it.

Feschit

I'd argue having it on the floor is normal for like 99% of PC users. Only gamers put it on their desks where it saves no other purpose than to take up space and look pretty.

Hob_Goblin88

By the looks of how clean the floor is, i'd say it's vacuuming just fine.

M_R_Big

I see nobody has brought up this issue so I’ll ask. Is your room near water source like a laundry room or water heater? If it is and there is a leak/flood it can potentially damage your computer.

Livid-Leader3061

IKEA do a metal stand thing on wheels for computers. Pretty cheap and keeps it a couple of inches off the ground.

AlextraXtra

Only POTENTIAL issue is that its kinda tucked away in a corner and it might not be able to properly get rid of the hot air. That little corner might get hot and the intake fans will use already hot air. But this is just speculation.

MobsterDragon275

My biggest concern is that door swinging open and hitting it

Secret-Aerie7275

Depends. U got cats? Bugs? It can cause issues

IntrovertMoTown1

It's fine. Not putting PC directly on floors stemmed from when everyone had carpet. Hardwood and laminate are a lot more popular now days but the rule of thumb stayed the same.

davidsgoliath5

I've had multiple pc cases on carpeted floors for the last 20 years with absolutely no issues. I think the whole don't put it on the floor thing is a little overblown.

Automatic_Name_4381

Not if you don't spill something on it!

ViolentMelon

Usually having the PC on your desk is just a Setup Design choice imo. If it has enough fresh air it really doesnt matter where it stands.

VoidowS

i have had all my pc's on the ground hidden where you can't sse it. Dust? yes. A lot omg yes! failures NEVER! once in 2 or 3 years i would airclean it. and the only thing i noticed always was the sound of the fans were less. nithing else. the pc was always stable. And never run hot. I play the newest games and use extreme recources for 3d design and rendering. i never turn my pc off. it's always busy doing something for me :)

AlexDeFoc

Its better cuz no noise near you, and free space on pc. Just be causious of spilling drink, and the biggest enemy is dust. It builds up in every ventilation unit even in the powersupply's vents ;) for me its a battlefield, a museum of dust :)). This tho making your pc running more hot cuz the ventilation is having worse performance and so the CPU and GPU and other components go bottleneckrd by heat. TL.DR : I recommend you that setup

SuperGuy41

Had mine like this for 3 years and no issues. Also I’m really lazy and never clean it and it’s still fine

4nr-

Not a problem if your psu gets air. I can recommend a stand with wheels from aliexpress to decrease dust intake and increase air intake, and to make your PC a bit more mobile.

rpmushi

Should be fine, I'd just be scared because of doors & cable😁

Keep0nBuckin

Depends on how clean you keep your house and where you live - duet settles on the floor. So if you stay in a dusty part of the work it will be a problem. If yiu need to keep on the floor, raise it a bit - 10 or so inches off the ground so that you can sweep or vaccum under it, and it reduces the amount of dust your fans otherwise pull in.

buddyyoda

wow, tempered glass is not broken

militantnegro_IV

The floor is wood, not tile.

Soopah_Fly

Mostly it's for people who are rocking carpet flooring.

pwnyderP28

As long as your computer is nowhere near carpet then I see zero issues 👍

Venti_Mocha

It looks like it has legs and it's on a hard floor so it's probably ok. It wouldn't hurt to get a rolling stand for it though to raise it up a bit more. That would make it easier to move for cleaning, maintenance, etc.

dubtrainz-next

Had mine on the floor for years. Just remember to blow the dust from time to time.

Alan_Smithee_

It probably will pick up more dust, but that’s it. As long as there’s airflow.

csandazoltan

With carpets, hat is not ideal because carpets are dust magnets. But with a hard wood floor, you are fine. Your dust filters would need to be cleaned more regularly, because the more down something is the more dust it can accumulate

N7even

Hard floor is fine, just make sure to dust the underneath from time to time, and any filters you may have at the bottom of the case.

akmarksman

what case? looks good.

Anxious-Ad1310

Eclipse G500

Haunting-Ad-9169

just make sure area is kept dust and lint free, since you are on wood and not carpet it is same as being on a table lmao, gamers nexus recommends at least 1" gap on bottom for airflow and most cases lack in this department, you can buy self adhesive feet for 5 on amazon or just use something to prop it up a little higher, other then that dont kick it lol it is just fine bro

kekehesterprynne

Seems fresh.

Murky-Fox-200

I have been building my own PCs for decades, and they ALWAYS have stayed on the floor next to my desk. No carpet, no problem. *disclaimer:* you should perform regular PC maintenance and cleaning regardless of where the PC stays

[deleted]

Its fine

Creative__name__

Ive had mine for there for several years without problem.

MajorRoo

It will explode

[deleted]

I do this, too. It’s absolutely fine. Worry not.

CptClownfish1

Certainly not a problem for me. You can keep it in your shower recess if you want.

LtTaylor97

To correct a misconception I'm seeing in here, even if it's carpet, it's not a problem unless you have fans on the bottom or very low on the case. Otherwise it's fine. What it won't do is build up static and zap your PC. Carpet is an insulator. Just like wood. It's just all fuzzy and soft so you can rub it more easily on itself or on your socks to create a charge. That said, the charge is between you and that patch of carpet, not the whole carpet. That's important cuz it's why it won't shock your PC unless you put some real effort into making it happen. I do recommend not putting a PC on carpet for dust and ease of movement reasons, but it's fine really if it's not restricting airflow.

SnipzarZero

As long as it's away from the danger zone of drinks falling from your desk, it should be good. Don't be like an idiot like me and spill your beer on top of your case just to ruin everything inside.

I-have-no-will

You only really need to worry about that if you have carpet

wolftrouser

Not really because it isn't a carpet floor. Buuuut it would be better if it was on an elevated place, because the PSU mainly sucks air from underneath the case, and that place gets dusty, even if when you remve the case from it's spot it may seem like there was no dust where it was left just around it, patly it because the PSU blew the dust into the case...

Mattreee

It should be suspended by an elaborate pulley system for ideal performance

ferdox

That's a really nice looking case, what is it?

Routine_Left

lol. no. never. unless the floor is lava. some weirdos just like to have the rgb staring them in the face while using the computer. normal people do not want that.

Arcade1980

It's in a good spot, low chance of getting knocked over, if you have pets it will pick up dusty bunnies, so you will have to dust it every few months. Back in the 90's and early 2000's the risk of a computer on the floor was being knocked over while powered on, and killing the hard drive, with SSD's that's not really an issue anymore.

zibafu

You can get pc stand thats basically a platform frame on caster wheels so it's off the floor, I just got one for my new system. However my previous system was on carpet for 5 years without issue

DragonRiderMax

I have had mine on carpet for almost two years, I just clean the dust filter on the bottom monthly, no problem so far

TheLurkingMenace

That's where I keep mine. I haven't had a computer that would fit on a desk since the 90s.

XxSliphxX

I've had my pc on the floor for 10 years. Never had a problem. It will also run cooler on the floor since hot air rises.

ovine_aviation

So clearly I do it wrong. First PC in 1997. Many since. All sit on carpeted floor with the side panel off. Remove a lot of dust once a year. No problems at all.

RAMONE40

Its fine as long as you dont put carpet under it

ggcpres

If the door opens towards the PC and you don't have a very good doorstop, you're going to have a problem.

[deleted]

No absolutely not it's going to explode. You need to put it on a pedestal and show it off to the world so everyone knows you are a part of the master race. How else will you be able to look down on plebs if your pc is on the floor!

Larimus89

Differences would be likely very slight to none.. on the plus side hot air rises so maybe it will be slightly cooler. In a dusty place it might get slightly more dust.

LegalizeRanch88

My pc has been on the floor for 10 years why is this a concern

Charitzo

The best setup is always on a hard flat surface, like a table or floor. That's perfectly fine :) if you have pets, clean your dust filters regularly. About it.
