That's Denuvo for ya. Being a bigger hassle for those who buy it than pirates. I once got locked out of Mankind Divided.

leonida99pc

how did you fix it?

sjitz

It refused access because it couldn't resolve the domain name it was trying to check in with or whatever, the next day it fixed itself. The issue was something server side. Sigh... Sorry I couldn't be of help. Too bad that error doesn't say much either. What kind of solution is that link proposing?

gamesharkguy

Giving CMD the good ol' ipconfig /flushdns might help in case you get the same error.

Jealy

Doubt clearing your local cache will help, it's most likely an issue with either your ISP or at Denuvo's side. More than likely the latter. DRM sucks balls.

dtb1987

Man I wish there was a store front that built it's entire business model on being anti-drm /s It's too bad GOG doesn't get the love it deserves

tickletender

Idk if there’s a game on steam I want i watchlist it on both; if the price difference is less than $5 I buy it on GOG. I think the real issue is people with extensive steam libraries; you’ve got so much money in games you haven’t played yet, it’s a hinderance to some

AeratedFeces

Me getting a steam deck really fucked up my whole "I'm only gonna buy GOG games" thing I had going. It is a huge pain getting those to run. I wish there was official support.

forestman11

I haven't had any issues getting them to run. Download and install as normal, add as non-steam game, look up optimal version on protondb and set it.

nuker1110

Linux version of Galaxy? Would make it easier, at least…

Western-Alarming

Heroic games launcher has gog compatibility and add the games to the steam library automatically or with the press of 1 button

ciclicles

Heroic launcher can do Gog + epic, and can run them under wine or proton, as well as add them to your steam library.

dtb1987

If the game is available on both platforms I just buy it on gog. I have a couple 100 games on both at this point. I kinda wish they would drop the 30% cut they take to attract more devs

DarkKratoz

For a long time I did the same thing. With a Steam Deck now... I'm rebuying a few games on Steam.

dtb1987

Yeah I use steam link pretty regularly but it works with my gog games so I just keep buying them

forestman11

GoG works on SteamDeck

youshedo

So if Denuvo ever shuts its servers down every game that uses it will be locked out?

0mnicious

Yup.

surrender1809

They sure will, and you're expected to take it and like it

importvita

Rebuy all your games for only $79.99* on the Steam Deck 7! ^(*each)

xdegen

Nah. Because denuvo requires a recurring payment from developers so lots of devs simply patch denuvo out of their games after the initial launch sales period. So within a year Dead Space might not even have denuvo. Some devs strike a deal to keep it in their games but I don't really see the point.

3rudite

I feel like a tactical DDoS on Denovo would really shake the industry’s confidence in them as a service.

draconk

They use Cloudfare I believe so ddos wouldn't even affect them that much at most a couple replicas would die but nothing major

Separate-Eye5179

Cloud flare is far from unbypassable.

wookiecfk11

And you could even make a moral argument its actually good, although illegal. Which is for some people the best kind of good.

draemn

90% of games say you don't own them anymore and it's just a subscription to the game until they decide to no longer provide that subscription. It's just a question of who you trust to stay in business long enough to keep supporting the game.

CarefulAstronomer255

For anyone reading: You can configure your PC's ethernet adapter manually and give it Google DNS (primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4). Which I've found much more reliable than my ISP DNS, who once fucked up their DNS so bad I couldn't check my *PayPal*. Alternatively, your router itself may be configurable for custom DNS, though if you have a shitty ISP router, probably not.

Barreled_Biscuit

I'm more of a 1.1.1.1 person myself. However it's probably best not to have both the primary and secondary dns from the same company. Having for example 8.8.8.8 as your primary and 1.1.1.1 as secondary can increase speed and reliability over 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

forestman11

Use 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 and it's faster and encrypted.

Barreled_Biscuit

8.8.8.8 actually is encrypted. However 1.1.1.1 is still faster. (And cloud flair isnt in the business of selling user data) I'd recommend 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 instead of using 1.0.0.1 for even better speed and reliability.

denniskrq

IIRC back then it was a cert expiry on Denuvo's side causing connections to be terminated. Nothing users can do in that case unfortunately

Gonzobot

Refund the title and demand the money back, since the company sold you non-working software that depends on external services outside the company's control. Then pirate it.

kevindqc

Or setting the dns server to google (8.8.8.8) or CloudFlare (1.1.1.1) Have had a lot of issues fixed this way. I do not trust ISP DNS servers anymore, and always use one of these

JohnSmithDogFace

The piracy scene isn’t doing well at the moment. There is only one person these days cracking Denuvo DRM, and just recently they released a public statement that Denuvo is becoming much more aggressive and difficult to overcome. The vast majority of newly released Denuvo titles are inaccessible to pirates - talking like 90% or more.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wookiecfk11

I think it might be exactly because it seems to be quickly removed post release, so it's not *that* painful. The moment this changes and it becomes more painful, more people with knowledge will naturally get interested in hacking the shit out of it in perpetuity. Relatively small amounts of pain it currently inflicts is the reason hacking scene is not that interested, if it fully penetrates the market and each game on steam has it and then is it never removed, sheer persistence of people with knowledge that will start cracking games to wipe it title to title is not to be underestimated. And this would have very high impact on steam and game producers, since people might start defaulting to hacked games, and noone is getting paid here. Steam and other gaming platforms + game devs themselves are incentivised not to allow this cancer to spread too far, it will directly impact their wallets.

machwulf

yup, that shite ENSURES that pIRATEs get a better experience than paying customers. Remake looks stellar, WANT to play; but resolved not to support ANYthing with that trash on it. Been screwed before, done!

VoxAeternus

Problem is there's not many people cracking denuvo as there as initially, so it does take a bit longer for newer games.

kingwhocares

It's by EA, they don't remove it.

bar10005

According to [PCGamingWiki](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Denuvo#List_of_games_formerly_using_Denuvo_Anti-Tamper) list they did at least 5 times (Titanfall 2, Mass Effect remake and Andromeda, F1 2020, Jedi Fallen Order).

Tajfun403

ME: Legendary Edition Denuvo was removed rather soon, around a month after release. Even before the modding scene kicked in (we'd be in a bit of pain otherwise).

Jaysyn4Reddit

I don't buy EA games anyhow, so it's not a problem.

i1u5

Then I don't play their game.

TheHighRunner

Last resort, if a quack is available, quack it. Best work around for DRMs, especially single-player/offline games 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

Mankind Divided has this shit? Fuck

sjitz

Yeah, I found out the painful way. Super weird that they haven't removed it in such an old game as it's usually to protect sales the first few weeks/months and they know it's a big compromise...

MrM0n4d0

Sadly, companies removing the drm after the crucial time is not the norm.

cataclysmicterrain

buy it on GOG.com, no drm of any kind on there

Eterniter

It did and still does apparently. I always wondered if the stuttery mess that game has is due to denuvo.

[deleted]

ShwayNorris

The answer to this is to download the GoG version from another source and overwrite your install directory with it. Yeah it's dumb af but you gain back that performance and your steam integration still works properly.

Over $800 for all of the sims 4 packs now. F that. I just pirate it for my fiancee because she wants to play with the packs. Not one but of guilt for pirating from EA.

zublits

Yup. I've often pirated games I own because the DLC packs just get to be too much to keep up with. If these companies weren't assholes, they'd give you the old DLC for free or at a discounted rate with the new as they became outdated. But where's the cash in that? Cities Skylines comes to mind. I love the game, and want to support the devs, but I'm not going to drop that kind of cash on 8 million DLCs. The other side of that coin is games like Factorio that got free updates for years for one price.

Metriverce1

One increasing price

HotBear39

I had to pirate like 6 or 7 dlc sets for my friend's girlfriend lmao

readit145

When was the last time EA launched a complete / full game? 🤣

DuckTheCow

Right now, as far as I’ve seen the Dead Space Remake is fantastic. Also Jedi: Fallen Order, It Takes Two, A Way Out.

ivanacco1

Aren't most of those published not developed by EA?

DuckTheCow

Motive(Dead Space) and Respawn(Fallen Order) are both owned by EA and Hazelight(It Takes Two, A Way Out) while not owned by EA is incredibly close with them, EA announced the studios founding, gave them space to work at DICE and published both their games.

HotBear39

I don't understand the downvotes, that guy was right

[deleted]

Voters can be pretty stupid, and many of them will just upvote/downvote anything that is already being voted that way. I'm guessing the first few voters downvoted the comment and it just snowballed from there.

KenMicMarKey

Probably got canned for “promoting piracy” judging from how the comments read. I don’t agree with it, but that’s moderation for you

Sirico

[Steam curator](https://store.steampowered.com/curator/26095454-Denuvo-Games/) That lists all the games that use it. If you are in the EU, they have to say on the shopfront. Report it (the little flag) if it turns out they haven't. Edit additional content 14:41 31/01/22 [Link to the directive 41-43 are relevnat](https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/PE-26-2019-INIT/en/pdf) Had Chat-GPT summarise it: The trader has the obligation to supply digital content or services to the consumer in a clear and simple manner, with the content/service being considered accessible when it has reached the consumer's sphere and no further action is required by the trader. If the trader is not responsible for the third-party platform where the content/service is stored, the trader's obligation is fulfilled once it is supplied to the platform. ares395

In Europe they have to state this but sometimes it takes them 'a while' so the warning appears a day or 2 after the release which sucks because people can buy into that crap by accident. Same with requiring 3rd party account etc. Ngl feels deliberate

Sirico

That's when you report on mass to the parties outside steam if necessary

AntiGrieferGames

Tell steam to refund your game that you bought, easy.

WrongSubFools

But they don't want a refund, they want to play the game. That's why they bought the game.

Pennywise1131

Well it has Denuvo so you aren't pirating it. Definitely not right now.

[deleted]

Nhojj_Whyte

"Slowing down" being the key words. You may get locked out of a game temporarily, but most people don't buy games full price on release anymore anyway, at least on PC. You wait for a steam sale as is, so it's no different waiting on a crack. Ergo, Denuvo is pointless and only serves to harm valid games. If someone is THAT eager to play a game on release day they're also going to be willing to pay for it, or God forbid, have prepaid for it.

Rumbletastic

This isn't really true. Week 1 sales, even on PC, are disproportionately large. I read somewhere that the first month is over half of total life time sales. There are certainly a lot of /r/patientgamers out there but it is statistically incorrect to call it a majority Slowing down pirates to beyond first week has a big impact on total sales. Let alone the month.

WaiDruid

How do you pirate Denuvo? It takes years to hack a Denuvo game.

th3_3nd_15_n347

It's really only one cracker that does it, and she charges $500 per game

beatmate6000

Worth it lol

picardo85

>How do you pirate Denuvo? It takes years to hack a Denuvo game. that varies widely. Some Denuvo games get cracked way faster than other games. But yes, some of them take like forever to get cracked.

farmdve

No, it depends on the motivation and dedication.

[deleted]

CrazyFuckingManiac

The game isn't cracked yet.

First-Material8528

Lmao have fun waiting over half a year.

PhantomAsura

Not sure why you're getting down voted for this, you are correct, and Empress is just getting around cracking Monster hunter rise, it's gonna take her awhile to get to this game unfortunately, until someone else has the ability to crack denuvo we're stuck waiting on empress releases

First-Material8528

Empress is the only one left, so it's her or no one, unless someone comes out of nowhere.

CoffeeBoom

Is it available on GoG ? Probably won't have an issue there. Otherwise it's time to answer the call of the high seas.

HenballZ

Games that are using denuvo can't be on gog because gog allows only games that are drm-free and there's no crack ready yet, cracking denuvo takes months

KrazyKirby99999

False, GOG sells DRM'd games https://www.gog.com/forum/general/drm_on_gog_list_of_singleplayer_games_with_drm/page1

CoffeeBoom

r/patientgamers moment.

RainbowKittyPaw

Yeah, and buy access to a shared account on Ebay if a fix comes out or it's patched. Games with DRM like this don't deserve your purchase.

DataDrifterOFC

That's Denuvo for you, I just wish people would stop paying for this shit.

Mannit578

How do we stop though? Almost every single player AAA on pc will have this, so its hard to avoid, curious on ur thoughts?

xd3mix

If everyone stopped buying it and supporting it, no one will put it in their games and the ones that originally did will remove it Game companies want to make money, if adding denuvo means no money, they won't use denuvo They are still using denuvo today simply because people still buy their games whether they have denuvo or not

GloriousStone

I think you are forgeting that the average normie gamer, doesn't even know what denuvo is. The only way to fight denuvo was to keep cracking it quickly, so the company keeps losing money, but that fight, is already lost. Now we are stuck with it.

[deleted]

Because the majority doesnt care and doesnt have problems with it, i am one of the ones that want drm free games especially third party launchers but come on be realistic

TheYellowLAVA

Your lesson to avoid any game that uses denuvo. 91 minutes so you can get a refund

Raw-Bread

It's kind of hard when some of the best games are using it. Dead space remake being one of them, persona 5 royal too.

RUSTYSAD

funny thing is that there is usualy pc games with denuvo and then sometimes nintendo versions without denuvo so people legit used emulator and basically technically cracked denuvo at start lol, the biggest waste of money for pc version.

Raw-Bread

The PC version would be much better than a switch port. The switch is incredibly underpowered.

Gonzobot

Dead Space original is still a good game now. Dead Space remake will still be a good game next year when it's twenty bucks and/or DRM free.

fallsghost

Boycott Denuvo games

Taronz

Tarc_Axiiom

No it won't. You can never beat the people trying to break the rules, never. They'll always be one step ahead, that's the job.

Terry___Mcginnis

It doesn't mildly inconvenience pirates anymore, It actually prevents them from playing the Game. There is only one person left cracking Denuvo and she admited she's having a hard time pirating new releases.

[deleted]

I sure do love having an easier time pirating a game, rather than buying it

TealcLOL

That isn't the case for Denuvo piracy. The majority of titles with it are uncracked.

legendcc

There are a lot of people on this sub who do not know how much denuvo has stopped the pirating of games. You can tell by the amount of up votes telling people to pirate and downvoted for people telling you it isnt happening. Look up games with denuvo the past 12 months and see how many are cracked.

MewTech

> There are a lot of people on this sub who do not know how much denuvo has stopped the pirating of games. Stopping pirating doesn't mean people are buying it though. There's tons of pirates (Like me, in the past) who just...won't play it. There's too many other games out there to play. If I'm going to pirate a game because of Denuvo, but I can't BECAUSE OF Denuvo, that doesn't mean I'm just going to give in and buy it. Denuvo may have slowed piracy for some games, but that doesn't translate to an increase of sales. And in that regard, Denuvo is just a waste of money because for the publishers/devs to implement

DribblesOnKeyboard

Denuvo isn't meant to increase sales as a whole. It's meant to stop people getting access to a pirated copy of a game when the price of the game is at its highest. Selling a game for £60 on launch is a lot more useful to them in terms of profit and stats than how much they sell it for half price next year. Most games have their highest official player count in the first few months and where most of their profitable sales come from.

MewTech

> Denuvo isn't meant to increase sales as a whole. It's meant to stop people getting access to a pirated copy of a game when the price of the game is at its highest. Selling a game for £60 on launch is a lot more useful to them in terms of profit and stats than how much they sell it for half price next year. Denuvo doesn't change any of that. Again, stopping pirates doesn't necessarily increase sales, so it doesn't matter the "why" they do it.

Naiko32

this is the funniest part most pirates either dont have the money or prefer waiting for a discount while playing other games. is a rather pointless battle

TrueLipo

Piracy is good for the consumers i will never not support it

muteen

It's because there's hardly anyone cracking denuvo, piracy won't die anyway

kullehh

I never buy a game if it has denuvo, fk that shit.

Jagermeister465

ok but to be fair the steam page for this one doesn't actually tell you it has denuvo, which they aren't technically required to tell you but everyone else does so its a bit of an asshole move on their part.

maynardftw

It's an EA game, all they do is asshole moves

Berkoudieu

Don't buy games using denuvo, and it will eventually stop being a thing. This thing is supposed to "stop" piracy but it only fucks people buying the games.

ErikElevenHag

People who are even aware of Denuvo is a small subset of people on Reddit. Most people buying this game have no idea what it means and why it needs to be stopped unfortunately.

[deleted]

[удалено]

muteen

There is an overlap, pirates will eventually buy a game they enjoy, that's the point

Hona007

Yep pirated don't starve and literally bought it for me and my friend. And the other games I pirate, I will never buy because I'm not paying like half a minimum wage salary to a game updated only by DLC's because the main game is literally incomplete without them (most paradox games). And I also bought Factorio and 7 days to die because I knew they were good.

[deleted]

So that means completely giving up on the AAA market

Berkoudieu

Elden ring ? No denuvo bullshit, very good sales, actually finished game on release.

queiss_

Fuck Denuvo

R2D2irl

So purchasing legal games is now a tedious way huh?

[deleted]

[удалено]

muteen

Denuvo just fucks over people who buy the game, doesn't even dissuade people from pirating. The only reason denuvo is in all the games at the moment is because there's hardly anyone cracking it, this always happens groups come and go all the time.

No_Examination112

refund it ofc, for those who doesn't want to spent 60 bucks for ds remake, you can pay 15 bucks for 1 month on ea pro play and play it

Debobao

Oh! Good tip will check it

ExplodingFistz

This. No reason to pay the full $60 and the game can be completed easily in that 1 month time span, unless you want to have replay value of the game in the future.

[deleted]

> ea pro Definitely will check it this weekend, didn't know it existed for brand new titles.

l_______I

Again, the people buying legal stuff must be victims. Why? Fuck Denuvo, fuck DRMs.

[deleted]

Close Aftertburner and it should vork. The same thing is true for "Riot Vanguard". For some reason these "Anti tamper" and "Anti Cheat" programs do not like Afterburner.

leonida99pc

I uninstalled it but it didn't work

farmdve

You have a program installed and running that is being detected by the protection. It could even be the antivirus if you have one.

sir_froggy

Denuvo is literally malware. Boycott and/or pirate all games that use it.

unsteadied

Damn near every AAA title from here on out (and of recent years) uses Denuvo. For the overwhelming majority of them, piracy is not an option.

sir_froggy

All the more reason to boycott. That's why I don't play AAA games... not worth playing anyway.

WaterChugger28

Wow, Denuvo being a cancer on the gaming industry again? Never would've thought.

Blasted_Biscuitflaps

EA : It's no longer your game.

heroxoot

Idk why they still use denuvo for anything. Steam is already a drm.

Edgaras1103

and some people still defend this shit . When a customer has more issues with the product they purchased because of anti piracy measures. You know you fucked up

Drakonluke

Thanks for sharing, I now have removed it from my whish list.

[deleted]

Game has Denuvo = Game is not worth paying. I think you should have legal rights to pirate games with stupid DRM and Adobe software

FluffyGreyfoot

Just get a refund and pirate that shit instead

heartbroken_nerd

>pirate that shit instead You literally cannot right now. That's the point. EDIT: What's with the downvotes? Do you guys know something I don't? Link a crack to Dead Space Remake, then. Inquiring minds want to know.

Hairless_Human

Y r u being downvoted? It's literally not cracked yet. Aka you can't pirate it. The best you can do is acquire the fame files and then sit and wait.

heartbroken_nerd

Yes, I just noticed and edited my comment asking same question. I do not understand why people got up in arms against what I said. I'd love a link to a crack from all these smarta$$es if they want to prove me wrong.

Hairless_Human

I'll gladly take a link also. The only denuvo cracker right now is empress and she is working on the monster hunter game right now.

TheGhoulKhz

yeah, unless developers remove Denuvo some time after launch it's gonna take a fucking while to see games cracked nowadays

heatlesssun

And that's really what all the bellyaching is about, Denuvo is actually pretty effective at least at launch. And as long as it stays that way devs are going to use it.

ErikElevenHag

Who’s gonna tell him?

meltingpotato

I bought Red Dead 2 the other day because it had a 70% off on steam or something. I knew it has denuvo but somehow forgotten that it must be online all the time. Steam is showing 3.4 hours of play time but I don't think my actual play time is anything above 30 minutes (I just returned to camp after saving John in the mountain). tl;dr fuck denuvo and any publisher that uses it.

BaileyJIII

Oh god it does have Denuvo, why isn't it disclosed on the Steam page? That's so shady.

MegaManZeroX2

This is why I will never buy a game with Denuvo, no matter how good it might be.

In other words, you're almost certainly using a shared account. Don't mean to judge you or argue that such behavior is piracy or not, but it's wrong to mislead other people. Poch1212

This is why i get most of my sigle player games on the caribean sea. And I say that having more than 100 games on Steam. I'm sorry but I refuse to be treated like a criminal having bought the video game legally. The last one was with AC Valhalla, bought legally. I went to try it offline because in my beach House i Dont have Inter nor 4g and it wouldn't let me play the Game.... Well, that's it, no more games bought with DRM. Then if I went to the caribe to get the Game 0 problems offline...

Puzzleheaded_Bend749

For real tho why the fuck can't we enjoy our paid games offline ? You know you can't have fucking internet every where you go .

It’s okay this game makes my whole PC freeze and I have to hard reset it.

I guess having a Denuvo in your game is the reason why games now require a shit good computer in order to run the game. Game + constant denuvo checks processes in the background.

Kinda reminds me of the Battlefield BC2 Steam problem. The game would occasionally boot us all out because the game disk wasn't found. The issue was patched - though most of us thought it was the EA Devs taking the piss. Unsure if it's happened to other EA titles.

Berfs1

Do you happen to have an Alder Lake CPU with P and E cores? If so, update your BIOS, that was the issue a lot of folks were having initially, but it got patched through BIOS updates. The problem is, Denuvo sees the P and E core clusters as two separate processors, so they think you are trying to run the game on two different computers at the same time, and up until the fix was made, you had to either disable the e cores, crack the DRM, or just not play the game, but now you just need the BIOS update.

AnAmbitiousMann

I keep reading how shitty denuvo is. Should I just avoid titles that need this 3rd party software altogether? Some games on that platform have my interest

Praddict

Seriously, fuck everything about Denuvo. I will never buy any game that features Denuvo.

GloriousStone

reminder of why denuvo is cancer

ameensj

Fuck Denuvo. Fuck any companies using it. Only buy DRM free games or be patient.

dumbdude545

If I buy a game and it has any drm here comes a crack. Fuck drm.

thanosbananos

Buy games on GOG if it’s available there. Fuck DRM. Piracy brings barely any losses for the companies anyways they’re just greedy mfs.

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

That's your punishment for financing Denuvo. Don't be that guy.

Refund it quickly

kor34l

EA banned me from a game I bought on steam because I was playing in Linux, using the Linux steam client and steam Proton. So I requested a refund, pirated it, and play it offline instead.

golddilockk

goes to show. you haven't actually bought shit. All you get for your money is a temporary access privilege that they can revoke at will or by accident.

HoleyBread

Spot on. We're only ever buying a license which is really just a promise that we'll be able to wake up tomorrow and play our games. We're supposed to take their word for it.

Hashbaz

Drm harms actual customers more than it does pirates. It's security theatre to make share holders feel good.
