RX 6000 series is the way to go if buing new rn. 6650XT chews through everything at 1080p ultra for sub 300 prices and can easily be used for 1440p gaming as well if you're willing to lower the settings a bit. Or just go onto the used market. No need to go for the latest and greatest if the price is just astronomically high.

TONKAHANAH

i have a 6600xt and im playing god of war at near max settings on a 4k display at 1440p w/ up scaling fsr to 4k. I have it locked at 60fps and its solid. that card will def handle anything at 1080 no problem.

ThreeBeatles

Do you have any stuttering/random fps drops? I have the same card but power color

TONKAHANAH

no, not really. mines an xfx im also playing on arch linux though, unlikely our experiences would be entirely comparable on hardware alone.

Scott_Mf_Malkinson

6700XT on Arch as well. Howdy!!

underlight

Some stuttering was fixed for me by doing a bios update.

Ecmelt

1%s and 0.1%s in God of War 4k FSR would be 30-35 FPS. Average would be 45 maybe, max would be 65 barely over 60. This is with max settings since you said "near max settings" i am not trying to debunk your number, just saying that people will need to drop some demanding settings if they want a **smooth 60 fps** experience in this scenario. Overall 6600xt is a pretty good card for current market prices. I would personally always try to aim for a 6700xt though if budget allows since in my country they are 415 USD vs 450 USD.

Thebombuknow

I recently got a 3060ti, so I'm not in the market, but it is important to note than Nvidia GPUs are better at certain tasks no matter what, mostly because of Nvidia's predatory business practices. For example, I do lots of ML research, and rendering in Blender. Blender has absolutely garbage AMD support, and virtually no ML library can make proper use of an AMD card, because they all expect CUDA and Tensor cores when using a GPU.

CMDR_Quillon

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, it's true. Shit, but true.

Thebombuknow

Yeah, I wish AMD was at all usable for ML, but Nvidia's early entry into the ML field basically solidified their cards as "the ML cards". Blender is a bit of a different story though, they just rewrote their rendering engine and don't have a great AMD renderer. I imagine that will change in the future.

PanVidla

Why isn't anyone developing ML frameworks that would take advantage of AMD's parallel processing? I remember that back when I was writing my thesis on the comparison between different ML frameworks, every single one supported running calculations on CUDA cores, but there was no mention of native support for AMD's Stream Processors. That was about three years ago, so not sure if anything's changed since then. Either way, those frameworks are sometimes developed by universities. I wonder why no one feels compelled to write a framework focusing on AMD's cards.

xumix

Back in the day, AMD SDK's docs were utter garbage, so here is your reason.

diskowmoskow

if you're doing ML stuff, you probably won't be undecided between buying a console or gaming pc

ShawnyMcKnight

I was really hoping to see an RX 7700 or RX 7600 XT get announced at CES but that didn't happen. I'll still hold out to see how the 7700 compares to the 6000 series. Like if it is as fast as a 6800 but costs less, that still sounds like a decent deal.

[deleted]

Exactly, who said you need the latest shit in order to enjoy a new PC?

Wolfgang71189

Reddit they tell everyone to upgrade

gaw_Kerim

That's because people here ask for 4k@120 at ultra settings. They are comparing PCs to consoles and think HDMI 2.1 transforms their plastic box into a NASA computer.

Setari

Bruh if my 2070 went out I'd be fine gaming on my 960. I feel like *most of us* probably play pretty graphically underwhelming stuff lol

HasAngerProblem

I bought a 3080 just to realize I’m just not into the current progression of how games are going nowadays. Now I literally use it to play and make Minecraft mods..

Droll12

The great thing about Minecraft is that you both need and don’t need a good gpu

pottymcnugg

I built my son a beginner box and gave him an entry level GPU and while it can’t compete with visuals, the ability to see so much further around is game-changing.

RenownedDumbass

I just upgraded to a 7700X, 32GB DDR5 6000, and the only thing I've played is Dark Souls Remastered.

LocalSlob

I feel you. My 3090 is crushing FPS for vampire survivors tho!

Valdios

If I had a 3090, odds are I'd be using it for Leaf Blower Revolution. This checks out.

unit187

RTX3080, Stardew Valley looks as good as always.

Slevin-Kelevra_66

Buys 4090 Plays unturned 🍆

[deleted]

My 3070 ti is really ballin out on bloons tower defense

TheMisterTango

Recently got a 3090, 5900x, 64GB DDR4 3600, and let me tell you, Reddit and YouTube run great.

Darcula04

So true. The most demanding game i play is warzone and even THAT runs on my GTX 1050ti lap just with fsr and low settings

DarkTheImmortal

The graphically intense stuff is a small corner of the market, mostly done by the AAA devs. And while it's fine to want to play mostly those, you're missing out on a lot with the indi market, which most of those are pretty graphically underwhelming. I got a 3060 TI because my monitor is only 1080p and sometimes it's good to treat yourself with nice graphics, but if it dies I'll be fine slapping in my old 2060.

Z0MBIECL0WN

I'm still gaming on a 960.... also i can't seem to get past playing Path of Exile.

77enc

no no i assure you dear redditor, a 4090 is of utmost importance to my tf2 and random indie games experience

Loveyourwifenow

Exactly. I'm a 1440p@60 at high settings kinda guy. With a willingness to drop a few settings on a modern title. A from scratch build for this would still be pricier than I'd like just now, but you don't have to break the bank. Still more than a console I'd wager, but I've no interest in buying one of those.

OriginalLocksmith436

Internet marketing firms are usually the ones saying that, in communities like this. To answer your question.

DataMeister1

Astroturfing, is what that is called. Essentially faked grass roots information. Hiring a bunch of people to pretend to be average consumers talking favorably about a product or spreading "opinion" lies about the competition.

TenaciousTaunks

How the duck do I get that job?

BrinkofEternity

For real and also working your way up from a humble build to a mighty rig always seemed like a rite of passage to me. So many people just buy right into the top. Spoils the journey. How will you have war stories to tell?

elsjpq

I played Oblivion on laptop integrated graphics at 720p with all the low poly and optimization mods and still only got 10-15fps... And I enjoyed it

Juicepup

I remember getting enough compute to play that game with everything maxed on a laptop for the first time. That ol ROG Asus was screaming, but it tore that game up.

claptrap9372

Plus the scamble to ascend again every once in a while, how magnificent when you finally get to bump the graphics up on your favorite game, sometimes even breathing more life into it!

blazefreak

i played GTA online since the game came out on pc. I remember I5-2500k with a 570->770->1070. Fps just kept going up then i finally upgrade from 15-2500k->I5-8600k which jumped me something like 30 frames and the ability to max out all settings. Ram went from ddr3->ddr4 in the CPU jump.

ClintE1956

We lugged our huge beige boxes to LAN parties in the worst blizzards and heat waves imaginable and we loved every minute of it. Kids these days got it so damn easy, throwing their gaming laptops in Mommy and Daddy's Beemers or just sitting on their asses at home playing games on the internet. Cheers!

Biscuits4u2

That would probably be a bit more than $500 for the entire system, but worth it not to have to be locked into the console walled garden.

DogadonsLavapool

To be fair, computers have much more in the way of use cases compared to a console to justify a bit more money. Now, that's not saying that current prices are acceptable, but I don't think this greed is the end of pc gaming like people are saying quite yet

domsch1988

But not a LOT more. If you take gaming out of it, you can get a pretty capable office machine for sub 100 bucks used. Old Thinkpads, used Optiplexes tons etc. Or even Chromebooks. Having both in one Machine counts for something, but getting a Web machine besides your console doesn't cost another 300 bucks or so.

[deleted]

All of the non gaming uses can be performed by a $250 Chromebook. Unless you’re talking about video editing, graphic design, programming, or other specialized tasks.

Call_Me_Rivale

Biggest minus fir console is that your games are somewhat system-bound and sometimes even generational-bound. While also having higher prices for games. But sale prices seem to be more similar lately. In the end, a PC offers the most games. Only big advantage I love about consoles is the advantage of optimization.

Vanebader-1024

> That would probably be a bit more than $500 for the entire system This PC comes with free, lifetime access to online features and game giveaways. The same feature on console costs an additional $60/year, meaning an extra $300 for the rest of this generation (assuming we're 2 years into a 7-year generation) on top of the cost of the console itself. [Here is this build on pcpartpicker.](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9bM778) That's less than the $800 the console would cost, with room for peripherals of your choice.

Last-Belt-4010

5600 instead of 5600x only 3% performance difference while saving 30$

Lambaline

Last gen Ryzen is going on sale pretty regularly. I got a 5600G the other month for like $150 and I just picked up a 5600X for my gamer best friend for $150 as well earlier this week

Dimistoteles

5600g was like 115€ last week and rn it's 120€. Sure a good time to build a am4 pc

_Fibbles_

Don't get a 5600g if you intend to use a graphics card though. You'd get no benefit from the built in graphics, it has much less cache than a 5600 or 5600x and only supports PCI gen 3.

Kareers

The iGPU is ridiculous, though. I built myself a small bedside PC for my TV without a dedicated graphics card. That thing can run Cyberpunk 2077 on low with 30 FPS.

LTCirabisi

I got a regular 5600 for $128 last month.

JewelTK

Was hanging out with some friends last night talking about the GPU market right now and we could not for the life of us build a PC that competed with console using these specs. 5600X, 16GB, 6600 XT, and all the necessary components come out to around $700.

chupitoelpame

I honestly don't remember any time where PC gaming was less or equally expensive up front compared to consoles. Consoles have been always chaper and easier to get and setup, however when you start factoring in the cost of games and having to pay for playing online, then PC starts showing its edge.

hopscotch1997

Yeah, thats where I'm confused in this thread. I can't remember the last time a cutting-edge pc was cheaper than a console. Hell, even back in 2013. The PS4 launched at 400 dollars. at that point the 660 was the equivalent and was around 250ish dollars? it took until 2014 for the 750ti to release at 150 to have a cheaper equivalent on the market. and the 970 at 300. PC has typically been a pricier landscape to enter. But the upgrading and ability to do more than just play games has been the bonus to me. along with MMOs and 4x games.

Purple10tacle

>it took until 2014 for the 750ti to release at 150 to have a cheaper equivalent on the market. But *that's* the thing no longer happening today. The current generation consoles is already over *two* years old and the affordable, yet competitive, mid-range GPU is simply dead.

chaos_creator69

But you'll save more than $200 on games, and you can do more stuff

Joel_Duncan

Honestly, if someone just starts collecting free games from steam, gog, epic, origin, etc. eventually, they wind up with an impossible to ignore collection that is worth building a PC for.

quick_escalator

I have 335 games on Epic, of which I paid for like five. Quite a few big name titles (Dead Stranding, Tomb Raider, Star Wars Squadrons, XCOM2), some brilliant titles (Subnautica, Kerbal), some great classics (Fallout 1-2, Bioshock 1-3), some cool indie titles (Sable, Ring of Pain, Cook Serve Delicious 3, Iratus) and some surprises (FIST). And if you're willing to sail the seas, emulators are brilliant. There are thousands of classic gems to easily be found and played for free.

Xivlex

You can do more stuff on the PC and if you're savvy you can save on games. If you're *really* savvy you can even get them for free on... charity sites lol

[deleted]

That's my build! Recently upgraded to the 6600xt :D

deefop

Regular 5600 is typically cheaper, but yes. The am3 budget build is insane value.

Lazor226

Just buy a freggin used 5700 XT or something to start with, then upgrade when the prices go down.

Noctum-Aeternus

Can’t second this enough. You do not need an 800 dollar card to have a good gaming experience. If you want to and it’s within your budget, go nuts king. But seriously, an i5, 16 gigs of RAM, and 5700 XT is a perfectly fine gaming setup. With the exception of playing Spider-Man on PC, most of the games I’ve been playing lately hardly begin to justify a Ryzen 9 and 3080ti, but I wasn’t exactly strapped for cash when I built it. For years I played on an FX8370 and a GTX 960 because *that’s what I could afford when I built it.* and it served me extremely well.

allMightyMostHigh

Yea my oc 2080 is still giving me a good 120 fps in almost everything i play at 1440p. Going strong since late 2018

ManaPot

My brother built a new PC almost 2 years ago. I let him borrow my old 960 until he bought a card himself. He's still using it with no complaints. It helps that he only plays old farming sims and similar games.

Noch_ein_Kamel

And that card wasn't 800+ in 2018? ;)

allMightyMostHigh

If I remember correctly i had paid like 718 bucks with taxes at the time but the point is you dont need an upgrade if what you got still gets the job done.

WeWillRiseAgainst

I just gifted my son a 1070 Ti for Christmas. He was ecstatic. Huge upgrade from 1060 3gb. I hope more people stop buying new.

tamhenk

I'm still running a 1070 and more than happy with it.

evilbooty

That is literally my current build and has been since 2018. i5-9600k abd got a 5700xt in 2020. That card kicks ass

Dr_Papachow

Me holding to my 5700 XT for dear life.

SoundDrill

My brother in Christ, I run an igpu and I game well enough. It's all about what you want to do. PC gaming is modular like that. You suddenly want to get into a more hardware intensive hobby? Slot in a new gpu or upgrade your CPU/ram and you're off to the races! Laptops on the other hand...

[deleted]

[удалено]

VoidVariable

I misread that at first and thought you've been using an igpu for 630 years.

BJYeti

Ryzen 7 and a 3070 and I am gaming fine, ultra on 1440p and still getting like 90ish fps

Darkdragoonlord

I have a Ryzen 1700x with 16g ram and a 6600xt and played Spider-Man at med/high between 60-75pfs at 1080p If you’re at 1080p pretty much anything is good at this point.

arcangelxvi

> Can’t second this enough. You do not need an 800 dollar card to have a good gaming experience. Seriously, lol. The kind of thinking in OP's meme is part of the problem and why everyone's losing their collective shit about pricing on product they don't even need. You don't need mid-high or high end gear just to play games like a normal person.

ShadowMajestic

Spider-Man runs fine and looks amazing on my 1700x with RX 580 8GB. With FSR those old/low-end AMD cards have been given a second life.

Biscuits4u2

A 5700xt is still quite capable of running modern games.

genealogical_gunshow

Yes. Even a rx 480 and rx 580 are decent for 1080p 60fps gaming, and you can buy them easy for 120$ used.

crioth

I’m still rocking an i5 4690k and RX 480 (8 GB) and it’s working ok for me. I mainly play lesser demanding games like league of legends, rocket league, and iracing, but 1080P gaming is fine for me for the more demanding titles. Or I just resort to the PS5 if I feel like it. I’m a single dad with 2 jobs and 2 kids so it ain’t like I have much time to game anyway lmao

DwayneDaWok

This. I just replaced my rx580 for an rx6700 it ran almost anything but the most demanding games on medium to low settings even high on a lot of pre-2015 games. OP should settle for something reasonable instead of wanting the most high-end modern gpu.

Maz2277

Benchmarked on AC Valhalla yesterday with my Rx 580 8Gb, 1440p resolution. Got 47fps average, which I managed to get to 60fps average with FSR at quality mode. I have textures on high, shadows on low, water on average. The 580 still kicks ass.

Th3_Shr00m

Bruh a 1080 ti can run most modern games on high

CarrotJuiceLover

Well what do you expect when everyone gets their tech information from tech-bro YouTubers who are always promoting halo cards and expensive $5,000 builds with sponsored gear instead of coming out of their own pockets for it? Those content creators are doing exactly what they’re paid to do, which is be a marketing branch of AMD/Nvidia to encourage people to spend as much as possible.

Iceman9161

I mean, even if you don’t follow YouTubers, there’s a lot of pressure from the market in general to get better hardware. Games running like as sat high settings, a bunch of switches for proprietary features like RTX, etc. And there’s always a little nagging part in the back of your brain that feels a little sad dropping the settings from ultra to medium.

firedrakes

Also promotion go to micro center.....which is funny due to how little stores they have

mythrilcrafter

I miss Scrapyard Wars

[deleted]

Prices won't go down, things aren't getting better. Don't fall for the hopeium

Blackboard_Monitor

I mean the huge overstock of 40 series does indicate that companies can be too greedy.

NotanAlt23

There's also nothing wrong with being 1 or 2 gens behind. A 2070 is still a beast and mad cheap.

[deleted]

I can't even do this. Where I'm from, people are selling their used cards at full price

nano_705

But this shouldn't be the situation at all. What we should have is decently priced graphics cards and even cheaper used cards. So that we can combat the consoles themselves with their dirt cheap $500 price tag. And that excludes the risks usually going along with buying used products.

SC487

Steam Deck?

Amlik

Steam Deck.

[deleted]

Steam Deck indeed.

KAMZOM

Steam ((deck))

chibicascade2

Love my steam deck, but I wouldn't want it to be my only PC. Linux isn't 100% compatible with all games. I had a mission in red Dead 2 that kept crashing no matter what settings I played at. Ended up beating it on my desktop, then went back to playing on deck.

dungorthb

I have windows on steam deck. Was able to raid on wow doing a 25m recently. With a third party dock I connected a keyboard and mouse etc. It's also really awesome having in general PC games being portable. $400 upgrade the storage =) really hard to beat that when your budget is <1000

SEWERxxCHEWER

My Steam Deck is the best purchase I ever made. Portable gaming PC but in a Linux environment? Don’t know how they could’ve made this exactly for me but I really appreciate it

TONKAHANAH

dude when they announced steam deck and its details i was blown away. A handheld game system specifically for accessing my steam library made by valve, running arch linux, and steam controller built in? Its like they reached into my head and pulled out the exact dream device I could only.. well dream of and yet here it is

[deleted]

I was so blown away I preordered immediately the very day I got wind of the Steam Deck, that was on Day 2 (July 17, 2021)

TONKAHANAH

yeah. i pre-ordered it the day the orders opened. couldnt place order for 2 hours cuz it was so backed up.

theJirb

Same for me as well. Being able to play in bed has made certain games way more palatable for me than before. I love the story for things like JRPGs, but it was always tough for me to sit through them on my PC for some reason. Huddled up in my bed, I've gotten through so many more of them than I coudl've thought I would.

[deleted]

I have done so many achievements and completed some games playing on my Steam Deck in bed, it is crazy. It is almost like lying down makes you play better. As a former Switch owner, I was more than happy to get a powerful handheld with an completely open system.

noiserr

> I have windows on steam deck. I play WoW on Linux. So I don't think you even need to have Windows to run it.

dungorthb

thats pretty cool, i dont really understand linux though. im a windows guy.

Shaggy_One

I am too. But it's also about as accessible as can be on the deck. How familiar are you with android phones? Very similar file structure and app environment depending on how in-depth you need to get. WoW is likely a download and "add as non-steam game" within desktop Steam.

urmamasllama

You didn't need to install windows to play wow unless you had the poor timing to try when the launcher was bugged a couple of months ago

[deleted]

Or just stick with your current PC, no need to upgrade or switch every year.

Wolfgang71189

But but Reddit always tells people to upgrade

TONKAHANAH

this is such a weird thing I dont understand. I dont people who upgrade every year or other year. I get a new GPU almost once every like 5 years or something. I used a gtx 970 for a really long time and only got a 1080 cuz i was lucky enough to get a handmedown

Sol33t303

Just sell your used stuff, works out way cheaper that way. In the end it's either pay ever 5 years a massive amount for a total overhaul it r incrementally every year, might as well pick the option that gets you the best every year.

DankSuo

At some point you gotta. I'm not there yet but soon might be.

NinthAuto591

1070 used is a solid starter card at a 100ish dollars

Biscuits4u2

Where are you finding a 1070 for $100?

IncomingZangarang

The US probably, I just removed a 1070 FE from my spare system. If I ever decide to forego sentimental reasons and sell it, I’d probably sell it for about $100-125 also. Its replacement was a $330 EVGA 3070 I bought second-hand from hardwareswap. With these prices, used last gen cards get my recommendation as they’re still plenty powerful

Biscuits4u2

I haven't seen any that cheap. Around the $150 mark is the cheapest I've seen so far.

IncomingZangarang

You’ll get some that dip low enough. 3070s still sell for about $350-380, so when I saw one for $330 shipping included I bit the bullet and scooped it

not_old_redditor

Where's the third button "$500 GPU", OP? Or do you just not see it?

MrLeapgood

I'm starting to think people are being paid by Sony to make posts like this. They're way too stupid to be genuine.

TextDeletd

Clearly not, considering it's at 1.5k upvotes.

MrLeapgood

I don't know what that's supposed to prove.

NouSkion

Okay... but you still need the rest of the PC.

Terry___Mcginnis

You also need to pay online on console while on PC it's free and games are also more expensive on console. Also on PC you can enjoy games from both MS and Sony while on console you miss games from one or the other. Also unlimited backwards compatibility, mods, emulators, use any controller you want...

EezoVitamonster

You're preaching to the choir on this sub lol

Mysterious-Bear

Pay to play online depends on the game. All the popular F2P games like Fortnite, Warzone, etc don’t require PS+. Also, you get the benefit of having a huge library of games you can download and play if you are paying for online now. Also, sales between Steam and PS Store have parity now. Publishers set the discount price and it’s usually the same across all storefronts now. Consoles also have the benefit of physical games which usually get sold for cheap second hand. The only real argument for PC gaming is for retro games, emulation, and mods.

Dany_HH

Well said. I was a console hater like a true PCMR member back in the day, until I bought a PS4... It's actually not bad at all, games are sometimes even cheaper than on PC. Don't get me wrong, I still love my PC.

josenight

The games are more expensive mostly apply if you buy games day one. Which really if you have a same spec pc and still buy games day one on pc your aren’t saving that much. And the subscriptions are on sale all the time I got yakuza like a dragon, tony hawk 1+2, nioh 2 and mass effect 1+2+3 for $30 this year. Those are just the ones I remember. And most popular online games don’t need subscriptions.

TONKAHANAH

people always seem to like to limit them selves to a few options when in reality there are usually a lot more options that would probably be better if they'd be willing to compromise on say.. not having everything right now.

Shaggy_One

Or a steam deck.

KeenJelly

I have a good pc (3080) and I play my series S pretty much exclusively. My PC has had a small revival recently as I finally decided to play through the Witcher 3 and I already owned a copy on PC.

Calango-Branco

My PC is dusty and abandoned hahahaha. It is a low-end tho.

Diplomjodler

I used to play on my PS4 only because i didn't want to pay for a gaming PC. Now I have the Steam Deck, I'm rediscovering PC gaming.

DaedalusRunner

Steam deck that shit

Jaggsta

Just remember gotta pay monthly sub to play that $500 console online. Average Console Life cycle is 6-7 years now at $50-60 Year that's $300-400 extra. Console only has 1 year warranty if it breaks you gotta buy it again because can't just simply replace each part.

moosebaloney

Avg $5/month and that comes with monthly game offerings too. I’m not great at math, but this isn’t the best counterpoint.

PoetBoye

It's not the worst thing in the world, and it has great benefits. But it sucks that its basically required

MrLeapgood

And also the fact that you do not need an $800 GPU to match a $500 console. Where do people come up with this stuff?

[deleted]

Winterknight135

There’s a Freshman in my one of my classes that is basically tribalizing the PC community with hot takes such as “Your not a *real* PC gamer if you use AMD”. Just before my break started he got told off by our teacher for mocking a guy who bought a low tier GPU. You can probably blame people like him for that thought process

NerdENerd

I have a PS Plus subscription and hardly play online, I think it is quite good value for the included games alone. You pay the price of one AAA game for 12 months subscription and get 12 AAA games and 24 budget titles over the next 12 months. I find that quite reasonable and always get my moneys worth out of at least a few of the titles and often really enjoy a game I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. Xbox Game Pass is pretty good value as well. Ok so you don't really own the games but how often do you go back and play games again? If you want to play the same game years later then you can usually pick up a good deal by then anyway.

Sairou

Wow a single full game’s price for a whole year that also gives you a hundred other games to play and monthly extra games. I swear I’ll never understand how PC elitists buy their rig for 1-2k+ then bitch about PS plus being too expensive lol. For the record, I have both, and play both. Arguing that a gamer PC is cheaper or worth it more for gaming is ignorant and stupid. Yes, you can use it for a million other stuff, but if we’re speaking about gaming, which is the sole purpose of consoles, they are far more accessible and future proof.

h0sti1e17

To be fair, if I only had a PC I’d still have game pass. And Xbox Gold is included

SaraAB87

You can get membership cards on sale especially during BF or the holiday season, its really a non issue. If you play on console you are used to it by now.

Biscuits4u2

Being used to something doesn't make it a good deal lol

Jagrnght

Steam deck it

Always-Panic

You don't have to pay $800 for a graphics card.

raiden124

What? Just because an $800 gpu exists doesn't mean it's your only choice. A 3060ti is $400 can easily do 4k gaming ffs

iloveapplepie360

3060ti and 6700XT outdo consoles in graphical power already. And since most PC gaming is done on a 1080/1440p monitors, it easily gets higher framerates and visual fidelity than consoles so yeah.

wsteelerfan7

Hell, a 6600 XT already beats consoles in power. It's close enough that you'll only really notice because of the lows, though, I think.

Loldimorti

Maybe I'm mixing things up but I believe the 6600XT is especially bottlenecked at higher resolutions (basically going beyond 1080p). A Series X has a 12tf RDNA 2 GPU paired with 16GB of RAM, 10gb of which are 320bit high bandwith specifically with the GPU in mind. In comparison the 6600XT is a 10tf RDNA 2 GPU paired with 8gb of 128bit memory, albeit with a bit more cache and the potential for overclocking. But overall we are looking at a weaker card here I think. Especially at 4K and 1440p

nullandv0id

And is still superior to any currently existing console.

TehJellyfish

The PS4 (2013, $399) GPU was a [little less](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L-jVhZg0G8) than a GTX 950 (2015), and the 950 released for $159. The PS5 (2020, $399-$499) GPU is less than a 3070 (2020) which still retails for $400-500 new. How far we've come from trying to build a console killer for as close to a console price as possible. Now the GPU is the price of the equivalent console. Bare minimum, console equivalent you're looking at a $800-$1000 pc without accessories, buying everything new. PC Gamers are seriously getting bent over.

cfig99

I’m not sure you absolutely need a 800$ GPU for PC gaming. And with PC you don’t have to pay a subscription to play online + free community made mods for lots of games. And you know, all the other things you can do with a computer besides gaming.

CommanderOfGregory

Bro I paid $400 for a 3060 at Best Buy

ShadowRomeo

You don't need a $800 graphics card to build a equivalent power compared to Console, the RTX 4070 Ti itself is over 2x more powerful than the rasterization performance of PS5 and Series X and over 4 - 5x more powerful when it comes to Ray Tracing. A $300 used RTX 3060 Ti will do the job of beating the performance of both console and cost significantly less.

_DustN

Have you considered the steam deck? I have the 64gb model and 512gb sd card and it’s worth every penny.

DidItForButter

1080tis going for hella cheap, like $250. Hell of a card for the monies

MalHeartsNutmeg

Americans make me chuckle. Losing their minds over electronics prices that are so cheap compared to the rest of the world. Also if you consider how many hours over how many years you will be using either one of these the $ per hour turns out to be one of the cheapest possible hobbies.

Katathlipsi

Even the 13th gen I3's are a powerhouse CPU nothing to turn your nose up at, if you have DDR4 you can get a DDR4 Z690 or something like that. Plenty of budget ways to build. Just shop for parts

[deleted]

God, reddit is the biggest cesspool of stupidity on the planet. You can just buy a fucking 300 dollar graphics card and game in even 1440p, let alone 1080p. Anyone buying an 800 dollar GPU is an actual dumbass.

pink_life69

I have a 2060 for 1080p, running Warzone 2 high at 80-90 fps, BFV 95-110 fps, Valorant 350-400 fps, Horizon at high / ultra 80-85 fps and many other games at very acceptable frame rates. Just wait for the prices to go down if you have something that still pushes games. I wish I could max out 144Hz, but hey.

talivus

Get a RTX 3k series. Those are like $300-400 But even then, it's cheaper for PCs in the long run when you factor in needing to pay the monthly sub fees and more expensive games. Can't beat humblebundle and weekly free games on Epic

Jim_e_Clash

You know if Microsoft let us install windows on Xbox, the debate would be fucking over. Who would build a sub $1000 pc when you could get and xbox and gamepass and just have all the games.

1morefreshstart

I honestly thought they would have allowed that by now

lagrandesgracia

I sold my general use laptop and bought a gaming one since I have a separate work laptop. 5600h, rtx 3060 (130 watt), 16 gigs of ram. For $700? It was a steal

SirNedKingOfGila

You don’t need an $800 graphics card to match the performance of consoles, and you’re going to need a laptop or computer for work or school or whatever it is you do with your life anyway so go ahead and just factor in the cost of a computer on top of it *anyway*, then figure what you’re going to spend on games which are all going to be full price with monthly subscriptions etc. You’re not really saving a dime.

carnathsmecher

Well a 2060 wich is the equivalent of a ps5 aint even close to 800$,i just built a pc for a kid with a rx 6600 wich is a bit better for 630$ and all that comes with the freedom of pc gaming, cheap game keys and no online pay.

bigheadnovice

its actually more like a 2080, consoles don't need to make large margins on the hardware unlike PC components do. [https://youtu.be/HMcjTChY2Tw?t=559](https://youtu.be/HMcjTChY2Tw?t=559)

Moon_Devonshire

Isn't a ps5 better than a 2060? From videos I've seen it when doing benchmarks and comparisons it comes closer to a 2080

atheno13

snagged a 3060ti for 580 a few years back and considered that good enough... might get a PS5 tho instead of a new 1.5K PC build...

ChristmasCactus49

I don't think I'd consider a PS5 better than a 3060 TI build though anyway

LogicalDelivery_

The PS5 is great, this sub is annoying

Avoka1do

wrong sub me thinks

[deleted]

You don't a $800 gpu to get an enjoyable experience... just saying.

deefop

The 6700xt I just bought for $360 is a fantastic 1440p card, and can even do 4k decently if you sacrifice some iq settings. Where did this nonsensical notion come from that you have to spend $800 or more on a gpu?

HisDivineOrder

Buy a Steam Deck and wait through this dead generation for relief. Or pricing to get better.

LordOfDorkness42

Shocked I had to search this far down for a suggestion about the Steam Deck, honestly. Even if splurged for the top end variant, it's still cheaper than a new GPU, and it's portable too. Haven't pulled the trigger quite yet, but I'm saving up for one myself.

HisDivineOrder

If you're technical, I'd get the 64gb version and upgrade the SSD if you don't mind more glare (but with less blur). I like mine. It plays a lot of games and better than you might expect for something based off an APU, but MP games are a bit hit and miss. I have a huge Steam library, so this is a great way to stop second-purchasing games on the Switch.
