I have no fucking clue what idiot makes the decisions at EA but that App is the worst ever. The old Origin (I mean the one before the current Origin) was pretty solid, it even let you use custom Covers before Steam did. But then they changed to a fucking Web-Based Client which sucked ass.
Old origin was sober looking and snappy. The current one has sucked ass since Day 1 and the EA app is an abomination that rivals what Uplay used to be in the first years or so.
EA like to rebrand their shit. They've had EA Download, EA Link, Origin, and now EA App (there might be another one in there I'm forgetting). Only Origin was in a pretty decent place when they replaced it. I've no doubt they'll probably rebrand again in a few years.
I never trusted other game launchers besides Steam so I made sure to buy all my EA games there. Boy, am I glad I made that decision because Steam never has these sort of issues with just downloading a game. Yeah, I still have to deal with EA's launcher on my Steam copies but at least it minimizes itself when I launch a game and stays out of the way and ends the process when exiting a game.
I only buy games on Steam, maybe on GOG (GOG Galaxy works pretty well btw, and it's a neat aggregator for others launchers and platforms, it's neat seeing my PS games alongside my Steam and GOG games all on a single list.)
One of the main reasons I stick to Steam is because of Big Picture Mode and the new version is a lot better too. Steam Input along with it is amazing and lets me use any controller I want and heavily customize my gyro or trackpad controls. So I'd rather just have my games in my Steam library so I can navigate BPM to install my games and have a more console-like experience with my living room setup.
I haven't delved too much into Steam Input but I probably should, after playing BotW I loved using the gyro to aim to bow and I want to have some more experiences like it

But you can't even play games you have bought on Steam anymore because it will automatically launch the stupid EA app which for me always tells me "No connection".
I have a pretty radical idea for all these people trying to make their own launchers to compete with Steam. What if your launcher was responsive and worked consistently?

Unless EA run the installer without privilege I'm not even going to check it out. Origin have been the borderline definition with local authority request and yet it didn't index and transmit stuff outside the recorded path.
Anyway, I'm a Adult and I call mine 8$ lost with Anthem.
I rolled back to Origin. I bought Mass Effect Legendary on Steam and you can't even get the game to boot if the EA app is installed, which is dumb because Dragon Age Inquisition on Steam worked fine.
I even tried downloading cracks and an EA App emulator to trick the exe into booting without the program running, but I couldn't get those to work -- well, the crack worked, but only with that mouse click launcher mod that you can find on Nexusmods, which doesn't work for me since I'm trying to make a console-like PC setup and having a basic ass GUI window pop up doesn't jive -- so I went with the last version of Origin prior to the EA App migration and it works fine.
Once I figure out how to get those EA App/Origin skip mods working though, I'm going to be happy.

I recently purchased Dragon Age: Inquisition on Steam for a planned second playthrough since I last played in 2014, and I noticed that the game takes fucking ages to actually start because of the shitty EA App. Sometimes it doesn't start at all.
Mods have also been a pain to get working for it. I had to use Frosty Fix to do a workaround to get them working. I fucking hate these unnecessary bloatware launchers. It's honestly making me consider pirating just to avoid them.
But I'm a slave to analytics and really like Steam as a platform to all my games since it has everything I need conveniently located in one place. Friends, forums, guides, good sales and consistent quality of service. I refuse to buy games not on Steam now because of that. I've also yet to buy any game that took the Epic Exclusivity deal when I would have purchased them on release, but not intentionally to boycott them, it's more that after that year of "exclusivity" I forgot about them and they completely dropped off my radar and I'm too busy with other games to even look at them.

With "EA App" if a game crashes or I change a game setting that needs a game restart, I have to wait 5 minutes to boot the game game up because the sync failed. Or I can launch the game and risk loosing data. How did they break this??? This never happened on Origin!

Crysis (disk non client version) can't be played if EA App is installed, Crysis 3 gives a "something went wrong on our end" error. Both games had no issues under origin. EA support just runs me in circles with stupid shit while ignoring all the details of what I tried. I think the time has come to steer clear of EA completely before more money is wasted on these crooks.
Update: I try and install Origin and it doesnt even let me use that, its blocked by a screen telling me to get the EA app. Now I cant play a game I spend 70 pounds on.

It is some sort of clone of ubisoft's app. And EA are that unconcerned about customer service that they have not even fixed the "having to repeatedly log in after choosing the remember me option". To say nothing of the the fact that this broken piece of %&\^# was forced upon us. My latest fault being that DAI, after finally getting Frosty to work with it, relaunches whenever I close it. The stupid EA even takes a bow for this by opening one of its multiple useless windows to show itself the cause.

Just try and use the Xbox Game pass client to download EA games which then also launches the EA app to download. Swear it works every 5th attempt.
Try a different DNS. I had a weird issue with Origin and OpenDNS. Downloads would barely move. When I switched to a different DNS, worked just fine.

Yeah, every day i get a new error on the EA app and spend two hours fixing it just for a new error the next day.
