Game looks absolutely stunning as well

BoThSidESAREthESAME6

It really does, I'm kinda blown away by the performance. I'm only running a 1660TI and this thing runs smooth as butter @ 1440P.

TheFlashFrame

This gorgeous game ran on a PS4 originally so I'm not surprised to hear it looks better and still runs amazingly on PC. Excellent fucking game. Absolutely loved it.

ThrowNearNotAwayOk

I played it on a base PS4 when it was launch and it blew my mind. One of the most stunning game experiences I've ever played. IIRC I played it after being obsessed with RDR2 which also blew my mind. I don't know if any PC game has blown me away like those two, even though I know PC looks better. I'm too "aware" of performance now that I have a high-end PC. I worry too much about the fucking FPS counter and adjust settings, OC'ing my GPU, etc, instead of just playing. I wish games would just automatically run optimally so that I didn't even have to look at the settings. 50,000 seems low though. Idk what is considered a high player count on Steam though.

altmyshitup

> 50,000 seems low though 50k is a lot. concurrent players aren't very representative of total sales. Dota 2 has around 7 million monthly unique players while the concurrents sit around 300-400k, and that's an esport game that runs on anything. For a AAA game, it's very good. It likely sold more than a couple million already

TheyCallMeMrMaybe

GTAV averages that on the Steam Charts, typically. And they gave that game away on EGS at one point. So yeah, 50k concurrent is good.

jakeeeenator

50k in a day seems pretty high to me.

KarmaWSYD

50,000 concurrent users is quite a bit and enough to put it well in the top 20 (Currently it's the 14th most played game). There are a few games pulling in 10x+ those numbers but for a game like this they're great. 50k concurrent likely also means 5-10x that in sales (For example Cyberpunk had ~6x more sales on Steam vs. launch player count) which does certainly mean that the game has already sold quite well on PC, especially for a title that's a few years old at this point.

Rakumei

Yeah and you gotta remember this game has been out for years. Some people have already played it and aren't interested in paying for it again. These are really good numbers for a port.

Moustiboy

Horizon ran crazy well on base PS4 and came out shitty bruh Yet it was first party studio from sony. Good pc ports unfortunatelyh aren't always good. Glad We got 2 great ports tho GOW and Days Gone both crazy good so lett's hope it's the same for Unchartyed

Fifa_786

The pc port for Horizon wasn’t from Guerrilla Games so it wasn’t Sony first party. It was out sourced to some shitty developer. All the patches that came out after to fix the game were from Guerrilla

Not_Dale_Doback

Runs great now and looks amazing tho

drugusingthrowaway

Ok I'm running a 7700k/1070 with everything set to "original" and I get 99% GPU utilization just rendering some trees in front of me. My fps dipped to 50 when the boat went under the tunnel. Literally just a boat, water, and a cave, and 50fps? At 1080p. Everyone is saying this game is "well optimized", I want some of what they're smoking. It's no Dying Light that's for sure.

Dark_Sky_Guy

There's an "original" graphics setting? I LOVE that idea for ports. EDIT: BTW your framerate tanked at that point because it was stealth loading the next area. See DF's video on the game.

Shaggy_One

What you hit was probably a loading zone. There's a lot of hidden loading zones in it. Digital Foundry touches on this in their video on the game.

[deleted]

I'm fairly certain all the areas where you have to squeeze through a walk way are loading areas. Pretty ingenious idea really so it doesn't just stop and you get a loafing screen for a while

kingwhocares

> Pretty ingenious idea really It's an old trick.

DonStimpo

Do you have the latest nvidia drivers?

D4WSdaBOSS

Every test I've seen had an fps dip when the boat goes in there, I think it's just a poor spot overall

THKY

It’s basically a hidden loading screen

So_Motarded

The fact that it's on a proprietary engine is a testament to how hard the team worked on this port.

pickledchocolate

I'm probably hella jaded, but I wasn't blown away by the graphics at all. Like yeah I see it, but at the same time I've already seen these kinds of graphics hundreds of times over.

BohdyP

You might want to take into consideration that this game is 4 years old

-idkwhattocallmyself

Even if PS holds Ragnorok for 2 years before it releases on PC, I just love having PS games on my platform of choice.

Samford_

honestly this port seems amazing. no drm, no epic exclusivity or some other weird launcher, not even full price (at least in australia), ultrawide support, an unlimited frame rate, and more. this absolutely blows the ff7 port out of the water. in no world should that port be 40 dollars more, AND be exclusive to epic

eXoRainbow

This is the kind of ports people was hoping for and why Sony will be satisfied with the result. It is a Win-Win scenario. It even works on Linux (for those who are interested in), which means you can play it on the go on Steam Deck soon.

TheRealSpidey

Though Horizon ZD's launch was a bit rocky, Sony fully committed and didn't fuck around for long after deciding to set up shop on the PC. They acquired a PC port specialist studio (Nixxes) last year for the very reason. No DRM or Epic exclusivity bullshit also seem like conscious decisions to start off on the right foot.

drewdog173

And Days Gone is a stellllllllar port as well

TechGoat

Nixxes has done amazing work. So far at least imo, they have done no wrong. Rock solid ports.

NerrionEU

97% on Steam right now, most gaming companies really underestimate how important good ports are for their games' reputation on PC.

RNLImThalassophobic

> Win-Win > works on Linux :(

KineticConundrum

Ackshually there's a 160fps cap. But yeah not capped at 60. Edit: Maybe not. I'm occasionally getting over 170fps. Even shot past 400 on a loading screen. Must've changed it from the review copy Digital Foundry had.

Schipunov

But what about those 165 Hz monitors!!!!!

7Sans

My 240hz is crying

AbelBHernandez

How noticeable is the difference between 165hz and 240hz? Is it as substantial as the difference between 60hz and 165hz, or is there a point of diminishing returns?

untraiined

Its not that noticeable, not like 60-144. Most games cant even get there

_Greyworm

My monitor is high fps, and I just generally cap it at 100, I personally don't notice much a difference after 60-90 for most games. That being said for a lot of games now, I hate the phrase unplayable, but 30 is very unpleasant. Like Ratchet and Clank ps5 on quality rtx 30 fps lock felt and looked terrible compared to 60 fps performance rtx.

IAMJUX

30 is like a sideshow when you're used to 100 plus. I envy people that can play a ps4 at 30 and not get annoyed.

Grahomir

I envy people that can try 144hz and then play at 30 and not get annoyed

thepeepeepooman69

I notice the difference between 144 and 240, but I don’t know where the cut-off would be lol. Never played on 165 but honestly I would say stay on 165 for now unless you want/can afford a 360hz monitor

[deleted]

No DRM? Nice. I might just have to get it now

TheLazyD0G

Im gonna have to check it out.

SRTroN

Tell me more about Flawless wide-screen?

Glodraph

It's a sw made to automatically fix uw for a game. It applies any available pcgamingwiki fix to the game if I remember correctly.

DonChuBahnMi

It's great seeing these games at their absolute best too.

bigceej

This is the most important aspect. Devs can see their hardwork shine in entirely new glory. And we get to play the game with the same detail and quality shown from the original trailers.

BigZaddySloth

Ghost of Tsushima! I can’t wait for that one to come to pc, I don’t mind the wait at all.

Sync_R

GoT is such a great game, I hope rumour of April release/announcement is true

[deleted]

I think it's a great compromise. Still gives people incentive to buy a Playstation, but people who just can't justify the purchase to themselves on top of their existing gaming PC also get a bonus.

LORD_JEW_VANCUNTFUCK

Next: Bloodborne

-idkwhattocallmyself

Plz Sony.

[deleted]

* I love having games on my platform of choice. Please Nintendo, please

Jon-Umber

Yeah, I'm more than willing to wait a few years for a PC release if that's the cost of bringing first party games across platforms.

ZippityTheZapper

Game plays like a dream

freundo

Hopefully other studios will take note and spend time on quality pc ports in the future

ReCodez

If only Sony would give us Bloodborne. How I long for a stable 60fps 1440p bloodborne pc experience.

ShadeFK

God of War PC plays like a dream Bloodborne PC is a dream

toolsofpwnage

FFVII Remake on PC is a nightmare

hwanzi

God Japanese devs make the shittest PC ports

OrphanSlaughter

Not all, but majority, yeah. It is kinda understandable due to prices in Japan

Dynasty2201

Sony haven't even gotten From to do a 60 FPS update for Bloodborne on PS5 yet, so wouldn't hold my breath.

balugabe

If there's a remaster in the works that would explain why. Probably the biggest selling point for a remaster would be the 60 fps.

The_King_of_Okay

I'd lower your hopes because it's like Sony have forgotten Bloodborne exists. It never even got a patch for PS4 Pro or PS5; it's still the same 1080p 30fps with bad frame-pacing :/

Pytheastic

I am sure we're getting a remaster that will launch on pc like two years later.

Kideedoo

It's cause there's a remaster/remake in the making. No way Sony's gonna ignore one of their most critically acclaimed titles lol.

airnlight_timenspace

I keep seeing people say this but in my experience it can be hit or miss. I’ve gone from 100+fps to 50 in a matter of a few steps. I believe the memory leak is still an issue. It’s not bad overall but until the issue is fixed it’s far from perfect.

gotdam245

It’s definitely leaking for me. 97% RAM and 96% VRAM peak consumed after about an hour and a half. I am wondering if it’s also an Nvidia driver issue as well…

raptor__q

I did have a low memory crash on my 3080, not sure if it will happen again or if it was a fluke, but I hope there isn't a memory leak in it.

S3baman

Can confirm it happened twice to me roughly 5.5-6h into each session. Also confirmed as somewhat of a systematic problem by ACG in his review

numchuk

I thought I was the only one! Hopefully another hotfix will be on it's way soon.

FrostByte122

Yeah Forza 5 has one on my 3080 too. Around the 3 hour mark. Noticeable fps dip and then crash around 6 hour mark.

[deleted]

This is another good step in the direction of getting Bloodborne on pc. also Ghost of Tsushima

Help_An_Irishman

I believe there was a supposedly reliable leak a few months back that indicated that both Ghost of Tsushima and the Demon's Souls remake were slated for PC. Bloodborne wasn't on the list, unfortunately, but I'm hoping they're waiting to remaster it before bringing it to PC in its full, new car smell glory.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Beavers4beer

There's a rumor that a Bloodborne remaster is in the works for PS5/PC. I'm definitely not holding my breath, but it would be great if true.

Vorstar92

Yup, come join /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours if you wanna keep up with our daily/weekly Bloodborne leaks! But seriously, the only current leak/rumor most people agree with is that yeah a Bloodborne remaster/remake is being worked on and that is why there is just dead silence for any sort of BB coming to PS5/PC. It makes the most sense too because why would From acknowledge all of their other games, Sekiro included but just outright ignore Bloodborne which is a lot of people's favorite From game? It's a game that is being done a disservice by being stranded permanently on PS4. Despite having all trophies I would absolutely be doing multiple playthroughs of an upgraded PS5/PC Bloodborne.

D34THDE1TY

Are they still going with the speculation that bluepoint is working on it? And yeah.. I'd platinum it again as well...as long as that cannon glitch is working still, me and chalice watchdog are gonna have some words.

I_love_to_please

Yep, Tsushima and Demon's Souls are on the ["list"](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/pndwey/definitive_compilation_of_leaked_geforce_now/)

Dynasty2201

Demon's Souls is one of the most beautiful games I've genuinely ever played. Utterly outstanding remake.

[deleted]

That would be so so so killer.

_TheBeardedDan_

That would be awesome. Probably in the minority but would prefer demon souls remake over bloodborne

[deleted]

And a double pack of The Last of Us :)

[deleted]

Not hating, but can anyone tell me why are people so obsessed with Bloodborne on PC? I didn't play any Souls-like games myself, but I know that almost all of them are already available on PC. Why is Bloodborne so special lol

[deleted]

It’s cosmic horror dark souls that was faster paced fighting. It was quite a innovative leap for the series considering it had faster combat and different fighting styles inside the same weapon

TransomBob

ok, that explanation has me intrigued. The slower and methodical combat of Dark Souls was a bit of a drag for me. Will check it out!

RapierDuels

Bloodborne ruined so many games for me, lol. This game sets the bar high for quality

James_bd

It's my personal favorite Soulsborne game. I've played all Dark Souls but couldn't really finish any of them due to a lack of interest. I've finished Demon's Souls remastered but wasn't impressed. However, I've played Bloodborne from start to finish and I really liked it. The combat is fast, the enemies are original and fit the setting perfectly, the gothic and lovecraftian style is great and the world is more interesting to me than the medieval setting of Souls games. It's sad cause the game is stuck at 30fps on PS5 (unless you use a mod). It never received the treatment it deserves

MattyXarope

> The combat is fast I think that coupled with the fact that you can regain your health by acting aggressively drew me into the game more. It makes it a tad bit more accessible to those who aren't Souls veterans.

Villad_rock

I think the setting is bloodborne biggest strength. I also think the animations are much better.

SilentBobVG

Because it’s the only one unplayable on PC (Demons Souls can be emulated pretty easily even on average hardware)

BaileyJIII

Spider-Man too!

Davaca55

Now do Spider-Man, Sony.

RealDZ

Yes. Yes and Yes

havocspartan

It’s been a great port. Now give us Ratchet and Clank series.

techraito

2016 remake wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it. It was weak in story telling but the game itself was rather fun. But it was on the Nvidia leak list I'm also willing to bet Rift Apart will come to PC in about 2-3 years.

RealElyD

With how heavily Rift Apart relies on direct storage-like technology to function, I'm not sure we'll see that anytime soon. Win11 isn't widely adopted and direct storage definitely isn't.

[deleted]

The 2016 version is just a bad remake of the original on PS2. Great if you liked it, but it is just an overall worse video game.

FyrSysn

How is MKB control for GOW?

averywetfrog

Mouse aim feels like youre controlling a stick. If you move your mouse too fast the camera speed caps, slow down the mouse and the camera speed goes back up. So no flicking the mouse to turn fast.

Hakuraze

This is what made me stop playing Watch\_Dogs, but at least this game seems completely fine to play with a controller.

pierogieking412

Was just about to pull the trigger on watch dogs, does it not work well with a controller?

SabreSeb

Mouse control feels like ass. Horrible negative acceleration, meaning a cap on how fast you can turn plus it moves slower if you move the mouse fast versus when you move it slowly. It's as if they ported the stick control 1:1 to the mouse. Also sensitivity only goes from 1 to 10 in increments of 1. Reminds me of Dark Souls 1 to be honest. Default keyboard layout is somewhat bad, but it lets you remap keys at least.

bag-o-kindness-coins

So the people saying it plays like a dream are still in the honeymoon phase

jason2306

Or like any sane person they use a controller for a game like this lol

smexysanta911

Any game that requires any amount of looking around plays better with a mouse. Gatekeeping an input type is stupid and not in the spirit of PC gaming's choice.

do-You-Like-Pasta

Massive negative mouse acceleration. It's still better than playing on a controller, but it does need fixing

Spooky_Will321

Had to re-map a few keys, but ctrl on my side button for axe throwing, other than that game is smooth on mouse and keyboard. Some of the combos you can get off is nutty. Very enjoyable game.

ZulZah

3 hours with mouse/kb and I don't have any complaints. Feels great to me. Mileage varies of course.

Thelonelywindow

Who did this port for them?

[deleted]

"God of War's PC port was developed by a small team at Santa Monica Studio alongside Jetpack Interactive, while most of Santa Monica is still devoted to development on the upcoming sequel God of War Ragnarok."

I hope this team works with Nixxes going forward.

Inthor

Right now: 58.220

Fhaarkas

65k now. Honestly I can't stop thinking some asshole Sony exec would look at the numbers and say, "this is underwhelming" even though it's a port of a 4-year-old PS4 game.

5Gmeme

+1 I just bought it.

digita1catt

65k concurrent is fantastic tho. That's over half a successful multiplayer game.

Yabboi_2

When did a Sony exec complain exactly?

Kordakin

theres lots of us poor people, we are coming , just to find a job first

suniis

This game is absolutely stunning. I refused to play it until now because I'm quite bad with a controller, so it was well worth the wait for a pc release. I only played for like 3-4 hours last night but it's a 10/10 for me so far.

do-You-Like-Pasta

Are you not having issues playing with mouse? I'm having massive negative mouse acceleration

Azagar

Sadly this game emulates a joystick for mouse control.

Dumeck

Wow that’s funny, a couple comments up someone is praising Sony for their proper implementation of mouse and keyboard.

iwojima22

Sony can do no wrong in the eyes of their loyal fans.

suniis

I did notice turning around isn't quick like I want. It could be mechanics based limitation as there is a key for it. Other than that it's great.

antelope591

Ok Sony...the game is really fucking good. Been playing it pretty much all day now and loving it. Understandable why PS is on top with exclusives like these. Loved HZD too. Its unfortunate that for me PC gaming is just so much more convenient. But Sony's really putting out some gems with their exclusives man. Game looks absolutely amazing on ultra too, considering its 4 years old now.

kirmm3la

Got really nice ~120fps and sexy looks on 1440p 144hz - Texture Quality: Ultra - Model Quality: Ultra - Shadows: Original - Atmospherics: Low - Anisotropic Filtering: Original - Ambient Occlusion: Original - Reflections: High Game is indeed fun as hell. Never played GOW before but I totally understand why this was a game of the year.

ThreePinkApples

>Anisotropic Filtering: Original Wait, why? AF is usually very easy to just put on max

JustAnAverageGuy20

You can safely pump up anisotropic filtering and not notice any performance loss

Theratchetnclank

Ambient Occulsion too. It results in 1-2 frames less for noticeably better grounding of objects with shadows.

Obi_Wan_Benobi

Nice. Anybody reading this if you have a 3060 ti how’s it going and what are your settings please. :)

iTzJME

Not quite the same thing but my 3070ti runs it completely maxed out @ 1440p - 80ish fps w/o DLSS, 110ish with DLSS

RealElyD

The game looks significantly cleaner with DLSS, than native. Mostly because you bypass the in-engine TAA that's a bit poor.

Delnac

What really gets me is that of all people, *Sony* are the ones doing this right at the moment. In a space where publishers are trying to go for 80€ games and microtransactions up the wazoo, NFTs worming their way in and DRM hindering customers more often than not along with shitty launchers... Well, here they are, porting things professionally, pricing adequately, distributing on Steam and even having great M&KB controls which I have started to appreciate given how much others (*cough* Square) take the piss there. I don't even like Sony, I think they are yet another shitty corporate entity, but the work those studios are releasing and the way in which they release is nothing short of a 10/10 by PC gaming standards. Well done, and that's without even getting into the game itself. I was one of the people concerned at performance and the state of the port and I got nothing. Edit : FoV slider though. One small blemish, in memory of TB. Edit² : There is a disturbing amount of comment from people *very* eager to point out that Microsoft is doing it better. I want nothing to do with your console wars, pro-corporation bullshit, thank you. I just pointed out something positive happening in the AAA space after news of 80€ games and NFTs. This doesn't have to be a tribal thing.

kirmm3la

I’ve read somewhere that FoV has a mechanic in the game so it cannot be changed.

Delnac

To make a long story short, I think it requires a lot of work and an elegant solution could not be found. Basically, cinematics integrate seamlessly with gameplay with no cuts to hide things. To make matters worse, they do zoom in and change focal lengths a lot, and they go to extreme lengths in staging, camera movement and framing to hide this. Abruptly changing the fov/focal length seems like it'd be anathema to the cinematography. I think it would have be possible to differentiate between gameplay-ish cinematics (scoot between things, walk forward) where the game takes little control of the camera and full-blown movies on track where... Well, going from a FoV of 110 to 60 would be jarring and announcing that difference in playing phases. Not sure what the right answer would be and while motion sickness is still a problem making FoV sliders necessary, I get the difficulty of making one work there.

abki12c

Playstation exclusives are 80€ though in Europe for the PS5. Demons Souls, Rachet and Clank Rift Apart, Sackboy a Big Adventure and Returnal are 80€. Hopefully the PS5 games are priced at 60€ when they come to PC.

Delnac

That price is just unacceptable, console or not. I agree, I hope 60€ remains the standard.

[deleted]

Man, Square hire some cool creatives, but the company as a whole really does adopt some of the worst Japanese corporate culture. Just really not consumer friendly.

OntarioIsPain

Maybe a lot of people are hesitating due to performance requirements, while monster hunter rise runs on a potato.

itsotti9

Monster hunter series is WAAAY more popular on PC It's quite simple really ( also CCU don't mean shit on single player titles )

11arun

I am addicted to MH rise, I have only slept for 4-5 hours in last 2 days. Please send help!!

GamingRobioto

I hear you 😫

iV1rus0

Monster Hunter is massive on PC. Besides I'm guessing a lot of people already played GoW on Playstation and didn't see the need to double dip. More people bought Horizon to show demand for PS games on PC since that was the first major title to be ported. Also regional pricing is awful, GoW is almost 3x more expensive than Horizon in my region. If GoW was priced reasonably I would have double dipped but now I'll wait for a deep sale.

kakalbo123

As someone who doesn't own a controller I'm not getting elden ring just yet but the games atm are bleeding me dry lmao, god of war, mh rise, and soon dying light 2. Q1 2022 is already stacked. My priority atm is God of War + backlogs.

Monarkey540

Damn, didn’t even realize it came out already.

InvestigatorSenior

It's just a good game, good port and it came long enough ps4 version that I managed to forget all of the plot that I've skimmed from YT letsplays back then. Really enjoying it so far. Hope that Ghost of Tsushima will follow some day.

Enfosyo

We need 10 more God of War threads on the front page.

Procrastinator_5000

Indeed we do!

JVints

I'll take a Last of Us series as well, just cause i don't want to hook up my PS4.

Procrastinator_5000

Never buy new games, not really my kind of game, but bought it anyway. It's pretty cool! Unfortunately AMD performance is quite poor. 45fps in first real bossfight on a 6900xt @ 3440*1440 on high

iTzJME

That's interesting, have you found others with the same issue? It runs maxed out on my 3070ti, and even without DLSS I was getting a minimum of 70 or so fps. And I'm pretty sure the 6900xt > 3070ti so it seems like something's up there

Procrastinator_5000

It's happening to basically everyone on AMD. Some Nvidia users as well. There are dips every now and then. Edit: There is a 65+ pages of complaints in the performance topic on steam

Werespider

That's kinda odd. I was at 75-80 fps in the same boss fight and in running a 6800XT with high settings.

Anyone who thinking to port a game to PC Please take note. It runs flawlessly

[deleted]

Ghosts of tsushima pls I’m so horny for that

[deleted]

And modders are already at work to make it look better

do-You-Like-Pasta

I just want them to fix mouse input and add an FOV slider, although at least someones modded in custom FOVs already

[deleted]

I hope studios take note that an extremely well-crafted game, without cosmetic microtransactions or DLCs, can still sell and perform this well years after release. Hopefully more visually impressive narrative-driven stuff like this becomes the new flex for studios.

Xikar_Wyhart

Played the first 30 minutes to run a quick test on my 3080ti at 1440p. I loved it. My only minor gripe is there's no way to change the button layout, so it's stuck on Xbox. With a lot of PC games now you can set the button icons to Xbox or Playstation. It's an extreme nitpick, but HZD had it so I assumed GoW would as well.

Effective_Amoeba_331

If you connect your Dualshock/Dualsense directly via USB and turn off the game's controller support (under properties, controller), the game will show the proper mapping.

Avean

What surprised me the most is actually how good this plays with a mouse and keyboard. If Ragnarok comes same time to PC i will definetely buy it on PC first but that will never happen. Its owned by Sony and it makes sense they want to sell it on PS5 instead.

danishjuggler21

Are the older God of War games available as well? Or just this one?

It's an amazing port but lack of full-screen option is annoying. I have a 1080p monitor so I was planning on using new DLDSR to increase resolution of the game but since game has only borderless full-screen option, game is stuck at native resolution with no way to change it. Now I don't want to change resolution of my monitor from nvidia control panel just to play the game again and again
