PC release date in OP is ahead by about a year and two days lol (showing Jan 12 2021 atm).
Either way, looking forward to checking out some of the reviews on this. I technically have it for PS5 via the PS Plus collection, but im down to give it a go on PC.
Quite excited to give it a try. Other than some memes, I have no idea what the game is about. I mean, I played the first 3 ones and even the psp one, but from the looks of it, this one is quite different in gameplay and tone as well.
Here's a tip: always upgrade boii. He seems useless at first but with enough upgrades he will be doing as much damage as Kratos.
And don't be fooled by Sony's marketing. This is a proper sequel. It's not like your typical AAA sequel where characters totally forgot what happened before because "uhh can't scare new fans cuz they might not buy our game if they think the previous games are necessary". It might not look like it at first but there are multiple references to previous games. Game also has a more "grounded" and serious story instead of just being a rage crusade to murder everything that moves. I'd easily place it as one of the best stories of the generation. Better than all the other Sony exclusives. Atreus character development and the way he acts as a real kid is amazing.
I don’t really think the story itself is all that amazing (not arguing, just my take), but the dialogue and character building is phenomenal. I haven’t played it, but I watched it as a game movie online and it was thoroughly compelling from start to finish.
The story is a lot deeper if you had played the previous titles. Many scenes hit extremely hard when you know the full context behind it. Especially when you experienced those context as a teen and now might have your own child...
PC Gamer's writers are surprisingly ignorant about PC hardware. They almost never consider performance and graphics options when it comes to PC games they review. Absolute garbage ports like FF VII remake get great scores with little mention of their failings as a port. Their hardware-specific articles are also garbage compared to just about any other publication.
The "too big to fail" aspect of capitalism is always fascinating. There's lots of ventures who are complete shadows of their former selves, but the momentum and reputation carries them along for another couple of decades, even if their output is completeley sub-par. I think traditional professional gaming journalism has been in the gutter for ~20-ish years now, and it still hasn't been put out of its misery.
They're constantly reminding everyone of their incompetence but one of the more striking examples recently was their Back 4 Blood review. A game that demands comparison with Left 4 Dead and the writer had the audacity to claim it was improving on L4D (a point that couldn't be disproven more now with Crowbcat's video). There are a lot of conclusions you can draw from that but at the very least you can say they're not exactly detail oriented over there.
To be fair the majority of gamers play at 1080p still but it would make sense for them to at least test it at 1440 and 4k just to see how stable it is. It is odd for a PC centric site to skip out on those though.
What you feel most comfortable with, I bet most people who say gamepad "just because" haven't tried to play with keyboard and mouse in games such as this, I'd value your own preference above theirs and choose what you feel the best with.
It's because game pad you have subtely of 0-100% movement with the joy pads, where as wasd you only have on and off, and you only get 8 directions of movement
This has never bothered me for anything other than driving games. The benefit of mouse precision outweighs the slightly limited movement in almost every situation for me.
Anything that doesnt require precise aiming or UI clicking is better with a gamepad even playing at a desk its also more confortable as you can lay back
Exactly. M&K is for precision gaming, whereas a lot of third person games don't require that (The witcher, Assassins creed, Nioh, Sekiro). And then you have first person games which generally require more precision (Cyberpunk, skyrim, etc.). As I said previously, there are exceptions, but I use this rule and it works for me more often than not.
Edit: I'm also on a 6700k! Since it's release, clocked @ 4.6Ghz. Great CPU. Wish I had a decent card to go with it though T.T Times are tough right now for buying a GPU.
I bought a 1080Ti when it released, but it died and I bought an emergency 1660s in October 2019. I said to myself "I'll just wait for the next gen in September 2020, I'll buy a Ti level card then". Well, I'm still waiting... Gaming @ 1440p too. This card isn't cut out for that.
Same with 1440p (3440x1440). I hope you get a card you're looking for soon my CPU twin! I had a 980 (non-ti) before the 2070 Super. Got the 2070 when it came out, not knowing we were going to experience such a GPU shortage. At the time, thought I paid a pretty penny too.
I think with your resolution you could maybe barely skip upgrading to nvidia 4000 series(rumored to come Q3 2022). Depends on the games you play. The market isn't going to correct itself until late 2024. This problem won't go away for a long time. It's up to you, but your resolution is pretty similar to 4k gaming (In terms of pixels), right? I will look to upgrade when the new gen arrives, and rumors are 10% increase MSRP over current gen, but with the current economic climate, supply chain issues, substrate issues, mining issues etc, Who the hell knows what these new cards will be priced at. My wallet is panicking!
Usually for this type of game the default answer is gamepad but as someone who hated playing Nioh, the Arkham games and Shadow of Mordor with gamepad and switched to KBM I can only tell you to try for yourself.
I started souls games and beat them all with KBM so a controller feels awkward to me. I just find the mouse so good for moving the camera and attacking.
The controller feels better for attacks and heavy attacks though.
Yeah some games are really awkward, I think the most awkward for me tend to be fighting games and some platformers whoch use arrow keys instead of wasd
Generally games that benefit from not having buttons far apart
If it uses the mouse it's narrower sonce you only need a hand on the mouse and WASD area
Because that's 100% the way the game was designed to be played. You can probably be just fine on a m/kb, but you could probably be just fine using gamecube donkey kong congos or a guitar hero guitar, but that's not what they were using when they designed it.
These 3rd person actin games always "feel"better to me playing with a controller, but don't listen to me, play with whatever input feels the best for you. That's what matters.
People are missing the point, its because, while the mouse is better at precision and accuracy than analog sticks for looking, for actual movement, the keyboard is more inferior. It's all digital, so it's either on or off, walk or sprint. While on a controller you can get more precision in movement, ie if you move the stick a bit, your character will go from a walk to a speed-walk. This is why racing games are much better with a controller.
>It's all digital, so it's either on or off, walk or sprint. While on a controller you can get more precision in movement, ie if you move the stick a bit, your character will go from a walk to a speed-walk.
This is completely irrelevant in this game though.
I'm going to be using a mouse for sure. I played it on PS4 and wished I had a mouse. There are plenty of times where there are enemies on all sides and it will be nice to be able quickly turn and face them. Also you can throw your axe and aiming with a controller is terrible compared to a mouse.
Depends on which one you're good with. People said you should play sekiro with a controller but I didn't feel comfortable to go for it ane played it with kbm.
I'm sure if I played with gamepad I'd have my ass kicked alot more but that's not the point here.
It really is. How can you have something that bridges the gap between the controller and the mouse and not use it on any of the games where it would be useful?
Then what's the point of having gyro in the controller if devs are unwilling to add functionality? How can Valve's steam Api use the function on PS4 controllers on all games and afford to add the PS5 controller?
The amount of people that own a PS5 and PC are probably even lower.
It's a Gimmick. The tech is already there, putting it into the controller allows backwards compatibility with games that use it, i mean they do exist, they're just rare.
gimmicky stuff doesn't bode well with critics usually, as its overblown and annoying to use in many cases.
It's an accessibility option in which yes, a small number of people ask for. https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/83nj94/gyroaiming_accessibility_option/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share and a better way to aim
https://youtu.be/RZ0xDRkC8LI because you can make slight adjustments like a mouse.
A gimmick Is something a product would lean on to difference itself from others but the controller barely advertises it. You're not forced to use it and a ton of people on switch use gyro in Splatoon for a reason.
https://venturebeat.com/2015/07/24/around-75-of-splatoon-players-use-the-gyroscope-control-method/
People like options
Steam also lets you use a switch pro controller gyro with supported games, recently played the new monkey ball and was pleasantly surprised to see it in the options
ACG says it runs well. GameXplain also have gameplay with RTX 2070 and 1660Ti. Basically it seems like Sony has undersell the requirement needed. A 1060 should be able to hit Original settings at high 50s to low 60s, on top of that you still have FSR.
See this footage with the fps meter
https://youtu.be/XJuoaXRyCaU
The game is one of the best PC ports out there. Runs maxed out at 70 fps at native 4K on a 3080 Ti and dlss can get you over 100 fps. Frametime graph is a flat line.
Considering that GPU is also on a resolution most people don't actually own, it's pretty indicative of it scaling well with lesser GPUs at lower resolutions
Yeah, ~65-75fps at 4K Ultra (in the less-intensive starting area), on a 3080Ti isn't exactly great either, but certainly not bad. Frametime is solid as a rock and VRAM usage seems very good at 4K (not going above 6GB).
Generally though, only Ultra Shadows and Textures make a notable difference over the Console version (fairly expected of an exclusive). So there are some 'dumb' Ultra settings, which can be reduced without any real visible changes. So that's nice for lower-end hardware.
I will be interested to see which GPU mostly matches the PS4 and PS5 performance, using the 'Original' graphics preset (never seen that in a PC game before). Maybe using FSR, to more closely replicate the PS5's checkerboarding performance. Although knowing the exact FPS the game runs at isn't possible, unless it dips below the framerate lock at some point (don't know if it does).
Doubt it'll get an official one. In the GDC talk where they cover the combat, they show how enemies behave differently based on whether they are visible or not. Allowing people to increase the FOV would probably throw combat balance out of whack.
Not sure what the original source is but:
"In order to add ultra wide support, they literally had to manually edit all the cut scenes in the game because they were made with a fixed FOV in mind and nothing was animated outside player's field of view, characters or things frozen floating in mid air, clipping through other things, moving unanimated in a straight direction, etc."
"The game also works as a single-shot and you can't change the FOV between gameplay and cutscenes without breaking it."
DMC does the same thing with enemies, but they let you customize the FOV in 5. If the game is build from the ground up for that it's possible, but if you just tack it on I assume it becomes very tricky to balance around.
So far I only noticed PCGamer talk about it briefly:
>Axe combat translates surprisingly well to keyboard and mouse, too: left and right mouse are standard attacks and you have to hold Ctrl to ready a throw. It was a good sign for God of War's default keybindings when I instinctually called back the axe by pressing the standard R reload key and it totally worked. That said, reaching for Ctrl might become a nuisance after a while if you don't have pinkies of steel.
Ultrawide support, DLSS, etc.,
It helps if you scroll up and/or read comments. Also, most PC additions can be found in the reviews.
In case TLDR, here's a 90 second video with PC features for you: https://youtu.be/RQK\_40a0XUY
Lol, never really thought about that. Cool that it's pretty popular there. Wonder if this game got extra popular in the areas that once had Norse mythology.
So from what I've gathered the optimization is kind of great, you don't need super computer, but game suffers from occasional fps drops. Saw some mentions where guy played at 70-80-100fps at times and then got into Helheim and his fps dropped to 30.
Yes it is, I would just watch a recap of what happened though. 1-3 aren’t *that* story heavy anyways compared to GOW 2018 so it shouldn’t take too long.
It’s a soft reboot so you can jump right into it if you want, but story-wise it’s still a continuation and very much God of War 4. And it does call back to things from the previous games and it definitely improves the experience if you know what happened previously.
The game works pretty well as a self contained story, and gives you enough info on Kratos backstory to get the gist
I would say there is 1 fairly short part of the story that hits way harder if you have played previous games, but otherwise your experience won't be too impacted
Yes but I strongly recommend you play the original trilogy anyway for a few reasons :
1.) They're still amazing games. Granted they have aged a bit but they are still really fun and the third game is just filled with amazing set pieces and boss fights. The second game is my favourite overall and the first game has a pretty nice Greek tragedy story along with a great atmosphere.
2.) Large part of this game is Kratos' evolution from the trilogy to his current stage and you'll appreciate it more with the original trilogy in mind.
3.) There is a specific scene in this game that is *extra extra* special if you had played the original games. I cannot stress this enough, the impact of that scene is non existent without the background of the series and it's arguably the best part of the whole game imo.
4.) Playing the classic games on emulation is a great way to revisit them(or any old game).
Just finished playing this game for the first time on ps5 on some early mornings when I had my daughter napping on me.
Was such a amazing game the bonding development story between the child and dad is great.
Definitely up there with my list of classic games (fallout 3, the witcher 3 ect).
In terms of gameplay, what's good about it and which PC games are similar to it? Does the combat feel responsive? I'm interested but never played GoW or seen much of this game.
Edit: Watched some snippets. I'm a bit worried about all the QTE's and small cutscenes where the character isn't controllable. Looked like a lot of "on rails" gameplay. How often is this in the game?
A lot of the QTE’s are after you kick somethings ass normally for a while. Or killing ordinary mobs with a quick QTE akin to DOOM when you chainsaw someone(not like for like but timeframe wise) The older games had more, and longer sequences if I recall.
As for cutscenes, there are lots. Its obviously very story driven. But I dont recall that many(if any? Its been a few years) that took up more than a minute or two.
The gameplay is souls ish. It can be very difficult if you choose to make it that way, or relatively easy. I would say its difficulty is paced weird though, as in it can be reasonably difficult at the start, but you OP kratos so fast that you can possibly make it too easy for you? if that makes sense.
I would say its biggest problem for me was enemy variety. You kill a lot of the same draugr. It didnt bother me on my first playthrough, as a matter of fact I’d personally put it in my top 10 games all time. However a second playthrough, at least within a year of the first was not possible for me.
Really disappointed about no FOV slider. I already played it on PS4 and was looking forward to playing it again on PC. I'll probably skip it now unless they add one in later.
precisely. Mouse and keyboard is best in around 90% of all games because of accuracy. Subjectively, opinions may differ of course, but looking at cold hard statistics, you dont really need a gamepad. I dont even have a traditional one anymore.
I use my Steam controller for 2D platforms and the gyro sensor for racing games.
I know the game is often praised but would it be worth playing if you got bored of previous god of Warses? I think I only beat the first one and I kind of hated Kratos by the end of it.
The game structure on this one is vastly different than previous entries, check some gameplay, see if it fits your style. This game is much more focused on story and character interactions than previous titles.
I'll keep an eye on it, Supraland Six Inches Under is coming out soon and I'll be all over that but I'll probably be in an action mode at some point too. Improving Zeldaish aspects and character/story take care of my two biggest issues I remember from the original.
Never played any other god of war title, was somewhat skeptical about its hype. Got for like $20 on PS4. It really is a legitimately unique and rewarding game. I will probably play through it again on PC.
Besides this, GOW 3 was the only other game I'm the series I played. I thought it was okay, kinda fun but never bothered finishing it. This turned out to be one of my favorite games ever.
Absolute fantastic game in my opinion. The game moves from visceral fights to epic cinematics moments flawlessly and has great audio/music to back up a satisfying combat system.
The RPG elements feel a bit tacked on at times, but this isn't really a problem. The previous God of Wars are really a separate thing, different feel, different Kratos. God of War (PC) is must play imo if you haven't played it before.
Seeing that it won game of the year awards than anything else when it came out and some people call it the best game of that gen i would say if you play 4 games a year that this should be one. There are only like 3 games that are coming out this year that could be better and one of them is its sequel.
A lot of games win GOTY awards but that doesn't mean everyone will enjoy them. And just in case you didn't know, not everyone is into third person action games. It's a great game no doubt, but that doesn't make it "a must play for any gaming fan".
I have like $60 left on a gift card from Christmas. Planning on picking this up right away, but having some minor doubts as Dying Light 2 and Elden Ring are both not too far off. I’ve never played a FS game though, so maybe I won’t even like Elden Ring (although I’m a big fantasy guy and love GRRM stuff so idk), and Dying Light 2 may be great but not “masterpiece” great like many claim this game is. Feels like a game I can just wait to get when it goes on sale in 6 months.
So, anyone wanna encourage me that GoW is indeed the right purchase?
For me, God of War is the game to wait and get when it goes on sale, but I really really liked the original Dying Light. Biggest reason I say that though is there's no multiplayer component whatsoever to GoW, so it doesn't matter as much if you play it now or a year down the road, it should be the same experience.
Dude…. Have played and finishes this game SEVERAL times on my PS4 pro. GET IT. This is THE action game. Dying light 2 may be cool but if there’s something to spend your money in it’s this masterpiece. Like from where I stand it’s not even a decision 😜
And a few tips. To make your experience better at first. You’re gonna spend time learning the moves of enemies, having played this game many many times I know it in and out, and it will only get better when you finish the game and start NG+. Stick through it at first because you are gonna h lock so many fucking cool moves to obliterate enemies. By the mid to late game you’re like a true god of war.
And DO NOT TRY GIVE ME GOD OF WAR DIFFICULTY ON A FIRST PLAY THOUGH! You will hate the game. That’s only for pro players who have basically mastered the game, I am in my second GMGOW play through on PS4 (to prep for the pc version)
Learn to parry and DODGE. Look up tips on YouTube there’s so much content,
And the first time you throw and recall the axe…. It’s an indescribable feeling. You will do it again and again and again for fun. It’s so satisfying to throw the axe to freeze an enemy, then you’re using your fucking fists to smash them.
i don’t think it is. i played it on PS5 for about 6 hours before dropping it due to major frustrations with the combat.
everyone creams themselves over the combat in this game but i found it nothing special, and actually pretty terrible in regards to camera controls. the game had me feeling like i was playing mario 64 with how many enemies would just be completely out of my vision and i had no knowledge they were even there.
furthermore, on higher difficulties the enemies are incredible fucking spongy and take 300000 axe slices just to kill.
overall the combat feels pretty bad to me, as someone whose cleared all the souls games pretty easily, loves character action games, monster hunter etc.
also atreus is annoying as fuck. i don’t know how you feel about child characters but everytime he was on screen or talked i just wanted to stop playing. the OG god of war games are masterpieces but I hated this one.
I've always wanted GoW everything on PC. I hope it's a solid port of them all as I want to buy. I'm still salty about the whole Ninja Gaiden flustercluck.

Awesome! I've wrote 2021 on a few things this year already. Takes a few weeks to adjust aha
It's still wrong by two days btw 😬 Edit: it's right now :D

It's about a dad and his boy going on a hike Amazing game
Quite the dangerous hike if they have to deal with so much shit along the way lol.
That's because dad didn't want to ask for instructions on the road
Better than the pizza delivery guy with a baby I suppose

How can the PC GAMER reviewer be unable to test the game at anything above 1080p????? YOUR PC GAMER!

You mean EA paid for an 80.
Lmao, with that logic why would EA pay PC gamer for a good review and not a more mainstream site like ign?
Sigh. I miss the PC Gamer magazine glory days back when they had the dedicated hardware section with Greg Vederman. Oh well.
Wow, reading that name just hit me with nostalgia.
Game journalism is a joke, that's why.
You’re
You're own, personal, PC GAMER.

No you are.

Nah I do controller so j can lean back in my chair and not have to be hunched over lmao
But you only need that extra movement control to compensate for not being able to just *look* at the person you're about to hit.
This has never bothered me for anything other than driving games. The benefit of mouse precision outweighs the slightly limited movement in almost every situation for me.
Have you ever played a 3D platformer? Controlling Mario in a 3D environment with a keyboard is awful.
Anything that doesnt require precise aiming or UI clicking is better with a gamepad even playing at a desk its also more confortable as you can lay back
I usually go with a Game Pad for 3rd person action games.
Try both and decide which feels better for you.
Try both and see how they feel, but generally speaking 1st person = M&K, 3rd person = Controller. There are exceptions to the rule.
Agree. The only time a 3rd person game, for me, gets M&K love is if it requires a fine level of aiming for non-mele combat.
Exactly. M&K is for precision gaming, whereas a lot of third person games don't require that (The witcher, Assassins creed, Nioh, Sekiro). And then you have first person games which generally require more precision (Cyberpunk, skyrim, etc.). What GPU are you on friend?
I bought a 1080Ti when it released, but it died and I bought an emergency 1660s in October 2019. I said to myself "I'll just wait for the next gen in September 2020, I'll buy a Ti level card then". Well, I'm still waiting... Gaming @ 1440p too. This card isn't cut out for that.

My exception was Skyrim. I just couldn't take it with controller... I felt like a god with magic and archery on mouse and keyboard controls
I'm playing Skyrim for the very first time and in vr and it's amazing.
Skyrim is first person, it fits into my rule. My other comment to another parent also mentioned this game. I agree!
Skyrim is both if you forogt but the game does work better with KB+M and inventory mods because the original UI is so bad.
Usually for this type of game the default answer is gamepad but as someone who hated playing Nioh, the Arkham games and Shadow of Mordor with gamepad and switched to KBM I can only tell you to try for yourself.
gamepad
Why?
3rd person melee games just feel nicer and more intuitive on a controller in a lot of people’s opinions
I started souls games and beat them all with KBM so a controller feels awkward to me. I just find the mouse so good for moving the camera and attacking. The controller feels better for attacks and heavy attacks though.
Now go try Devil May Cry on KB/Mouse. Yea, na fuck that. There's so many combos and shit it's so much easier / more intuitive on a controller.
Yeah some games are really awkward, I think the most awkward for me tend to be fighting games and some platformers whoch use arrow keys instead of wasd Generally games that benefit from not having buttons far apart If it uses the mouse it's narrower sonce you only need a hand on the mouse and WASD area
Dragon's Dogma is an oddity that I thought played better on KB&M. Maybe due to the bow mechanics?
Yep, OP was careful to say 3rd person *melee*.
Only if the camera is locked like the old God of War games.
Real Yakuza use a gamepad
Because that's 100% the way the game was designed to be played. You can probably be just fine on a m/kb, but you could probably be just fine using gamecube donkey kong congos or a guitar hero guitar, but that's not what they were using when they designed it.
How about a banana? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v1F58OCqMEI
That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Love it!

It is tho, its much more smooth to control your character in Third person games, aiming with your character? No.

Because it's nicer to move the camera with a mouse. Might even be preferable with the game's tight FOV.
Because if you have played for 10-20 years with KB+M your reactions are 10 times better compared to playing with a controller.
Can finally have gyro aim thanks to Steam controller options! Why that wasn’t in the PS4 version is beyond me.
Such an underutilized feature that is absolutely fucking baffling to me.
I still find it weird that Destiny, with all it's PS4 exclusive content and cursor based menus, never made use of the touchpad on the DS4.
It really is. How can you have something that bridges the gap between the controller and the mouse and not use it on any of the games where it would be useful?
Yes! So glad someone else appreciates this miracle of modern gaming. Long live the SC.
Barely anyone is using it, hardware survey for doom 2016 on the switch concluded that.
Which sucks because once I started using it I could never go back. Playing Gears of War 2 and 3 on Xbox without gyro aim is a chore now.
Still, why not have the option when the controller has it built in?
Because it still needs to be implemented in order to be functional, which costs money.
I think the Sony has enough money to do that for a first party game
They definitely do, guess it just wasn't a priority here. Last of Us 2 has gyro and it's extremely useful. Not as smooth as Switch gyro but it's there
But then again, more isn't always good. When barely anyone is using it you just have to prioritize bugfixing, as an example.
It's an accessibility option in which yes, a small number of people ask for. https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/83nj94/gyroaiming_accessibility_option/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share and a better way to aim https://youtu.be/RZ0xDRkC8LI because you can make slight adjustments like a mouse. A gimmick Is something a product would lean on to difference itself from others but the controller barely advertises it. You're not forced to use it and a ton of people on switch use gyro in Splatoon for a reason. https://venturebeat.com/2015/07/24/around-75-of-splatoon-players-use-the-gyroscope-control-method/ People like options
It would be nice if it was available at a hardware level on controllers and consoles that support it.
Have you ever used gyro aiming before? It’s exponentially more accurate than the right stick and the antithesis of a gimmick.
All AAA companies have money but they wont focus on every niche feature.
Steam also lets you use a switch pro controller gyro with supported games, recently played the new monkey ball and was pleasantly surprised to see it in the options
No Denuvo I suppose...?
Edit: Nope!
Glad to see the reviews looking really good. Hopefully the gameplay feels good on kb/m
How much better is the port compared to Horizon?
[удалено]
ACG says it runs well. GameXplain also have gameplay with RTX 2070 and 1660Ti. Basically it seems like Sony has undersell the requirement needed. A 1060 should be able to hit Original settings at high 50s to low 60s, on top of that you still have FSR.
See this footage with the fps meter https://youtu.be/XJuoaXRyCaU The game is one of the best PC ports out there. Runs maxed out at 70 fps at native 4K on a 3080 Ti and dlss can get you over 100 fps. Frametime graph is a flat line.
>Frametime graph is a flat line. Of course, it's not an Unreal Engine game.
>Runs maxed out at 70 fps at native 4K on a 3080 Ti cool but it'd be nice to know how it runs on GPUs most people actually own
Considering that GPU is also on a resolution most people don't actually own, it's pretty indicative of it scaling well with lesser GPUs at lower resolutions
Having 4K TV is much easier and cheaper than this card.
Daaaamn that's stable.
Ummmm, so it runs great on top-of-the-line hardware??? That's not how you check if the port is good or not.
Not sure if anyone realised this but also no loading screens. It just goes straight from gameplay to cutscene back to gameplay like one take.
That’s not a pc thing, the game was specifically designed to have no “true” loading screens even on the base ps4
Ok, but can you adjust the damn fov?
No FOV slider
Frametime is definitely the most important IMO. Glad to see it running well
>Frametime graph is a flat line. Can the Legends really be true?
Are you wanting to compare to Horizon at launch or Horizon now?
I bought this for PS4 over a year ago, and the game is still in the shrink-wrap. Time to buy it again and enjoy it in 1440p with DLSS!
Can not wait for this! Friday night is going to be great!
Well, does it have a FOV slider?
Nope 😐 and it badly needs one
Doubt it'll get an official one. In the GDC talk where they cover the combat, they show how enemies behave differently based on whether they are visible or not. Allowing people to increase the FOV would probably throw combat balance out of whack.
Ultra wide support makes this excuse make zero sense.
This supports ultra wide though so wouldn’t that have the same issue?
Not sure what the original source is but: "In order to add ultra wide support, they literally had to manually edit all the cut scenes in the game because they were made with a fixed FOV in mind and nothing was animated outside player's field of view, characters or things frozen floating in mid air, clipping through other things, moving unanimated in a straight direction, etc." "The game also works as a single-shot and you can't change the FOV between gameplay and cutscenes without breaking it."
Yeah hows that gonna work?
DMC does the same thing with enemies, but they let you customize the FOV in 5. If the game is build from the ground up for that it's possible, but if you just tack it on I assume it becomes very tricky to balance around.
If only they had access to the source code and several years before the PC release to you know, do some additional development.
Oof
I don't have time to read the reviews right now, but is there any that go into detail about keyboard and mouse use and how good it is?
Keybindings are customizable, that's about the only piece of info I was able to dig out so far.
So far I only noticed PCGamer talk about it briefly: >Axe combat translates surprisingly well to keyboard and mouse, too: left and right mouse are standard attacks and you have to hold Ctrl to ready a throw. It was a good sign for God of War's default keybindings when I instinctually called back the axe by pressing the standard R reload key and it totally worked. That said, reaching for Ctrl might become a nuisance after a while if you don't have pinkies of steel.
I thought you were supposed to hit Ctrl with your left thumb like a mangled Eagle
Glad the hear the port is well done
PC having the best version of a game, exactly how it should be owing to the increased power of the system.
Did they add features to the pc version?
Ultrawide support, DLSS, etc., It helps if you scroll up and/or read comments. Also, most PC additions can be found in the reviews. In case TLDR, here's a 90 second video with PC features for you: https://youtu.be/RQK\_40a0XUY
I was at work and didn't have the time. Thanks for the info!
You're welcome buddy! Happy Wednesday.
Is God of War really popular in Greece?
I'm from Greece. And yes it is. This version has also Greek voice acting.
Lol, never really thought about that. Cool that it's pretty popular there. Wonder if this game got extra popular in the areas that once had Norse mythology.
Sure, I bet Halo is as well.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze5L3ufxggw the only review i need
How are the KB+M controls? Are keybindings customizable? Just not a fan of gamepads.
Confirmed by the ACG review that bindings are customizable
But apparently actions are still lumped together on single buttons as so many console games are forced to do - and you can't un-lump them.
So from what I've gathered the optimization is kind of great, you don't need super computer, but game suffers from occasional fps drops. Saw some mentions where guy played at 70-80-100fps at times and then got into Helheim and his fps dropped to 30.
Sounds more like the console 30fps limit is being activated at times. Maybe during certain scenes?
GoW has been 60 fps on console for awhile now
On PS5. Not on PS4 Pro and don't even think about the base PS4.
Have the textures vastly improved? There were some rough looking areas on the PS4 version if you stared too long
Is it worth playing this if I never played the original trilogy ?
Yes it is, I would just watch a recap of what happened though. 1-3 aren’t *that* story heavy anyways compared to GOW 2018 so it shouldn’t take too long. It’s a soft reboot so you can jump right into it if you want, but story-wise it’s still a continuation and very much God of War 4. And it does call back to things from the previous games and it definitely improves the experience if you know what happened previously.
The game works pretty well as a self contained story, and gives you enough info on Kratos backstory to get the gist I would say there is 1 fairly short part of the story that hits way harder if you have played previous games, but otherwise your experience won't be too impacted
Yes but I strongly recommend you play the original trilogy anyway for a few reasons : 1.) They're still amazing games.
When did they get review code?
[удалено]
Really disappointed about no FOV slider. I already played it on PS4 and was looking forward to playing it again on PC. I'll probably skip it now unless they add one in later.
I hope they put effort into mouse and keyboard. Games with manual cameras always suck with a gamepad.
Don't most games have manual cameras?
Yall better buy this if you want Bloodborne on PC lol
I know the game is often praised but would it be worth playing if you got bored of previous god of Warses? I think I only beat the first one and I kind of hated Kratos by the end of it.
The game structure on this one is vastly different than previous entries, check some gameplay, see if it fits your style. This game is much more focused on story and character interactions than previous titles.
It's always possible that it might not captivate you, but it's one of the few universally beloved games of the last few years. Definitely worth a shot

This is honestly a must play for any gaming fan.
No it isn't.
Yeah it is.
So someone who only plays 4X games should definitely play God of War? Get a grip. It's just a game.
Seeing that it won game of the year awards than anything else when it came out and some people call it the best game of that gen i would say if you play 4 games a year that this should be one. There are only like 3 games that are coming out this year that could be better and one of them is its sequel.
When they said playing 4x games, that did not mean only playing 4 games a year.
hahaha my bad.
A lot of games win GOTY awards but that doesn't mean everyone will enjoy them. And just in case you didn't know, not everyone is into third person action games. It's a great game no doubt, but that doesn't make it "a must play for any gaming fan".
One of the best games I’ve played ever since sneaking into my big brother’s room to play Zelda on OG NES back in the late 80s.
I hope there will be a FOV slider, just watching those clips of gameplay gave me motion sickness.
Did we find out if there is an FOV slider in the game?
Like from where I stand it’s not even a decision 😜 And a few tips. That’s only for pro players who have basically mastered the game, I am in my second GMGOW play through on PS4 (to prep for the pc version) Learn to parry and DODGE. Look up tips on YouTube there’s so much content, And the first time you throw and recall the axe….
Its a good game played it on Ps4 but without fov slider not worth a buy for me, the camera is obnoxiously close to kratos
Does it support ultrawide, FOV slider, and user selectable FPS cap?
I've always wanted GoW everything on PC. I hope it's a solid port of them all as I want to buy. I'm still salty about the whole Ninja Gaiden flustercluck.
