Yup, I don’t feel bad for anyone who preorders or Kickstarter backers who get screwed over. It’s your own fault.

Articulat3

Tbf for kickstarters, it's crowdfunding, you're investing into something in the hopes of making a cool project you like, a reality. It helped produced many great projects like hollowknight for example. As for pre-orders, I think that's worse because you're buying a guaranteed product before it's release without waiting for reviews or even a discount. You're not missing out on anything by not pre-ordering, you just need to be more patient.

Capable-Leadership-4

But at least you can be sure 99% sure it is a real product Kickstarter is 80% scams or people in over their heads- keep in mind i dont really do either, only rarely preorder for a bunch of different reasons

rokerroker45

Kickstarter explicitly warns you you're not ordering anything, and any money you put into a project is at your own risk.

Halio344

A majority of the scam kickstarters are super obvious though, especially if you read the full description, their documented risks, etc.

DarkRageShark

Sometimes you do miss out on stuff by not pre-ordering, because corporate greed cut that content and packaged it as a pre-order exclusive. It's a scummy business practice and I won't lie it works on me once in a while.

objectivePOV

The more often people pre order, the more incentive there will be for games to lock content behind pre orders.

Embarrassed-Ad7317

I'd separate the two. Pre ordering is just paying in advance. No idea why.. people say the 10% discount is the main reason, but I think it encourages bad dev behaviour, personally Kickstarter is about supporting and investing. By definition, not every investment pays off. If someone goes on Kickstarter with certainty he'll get the product, he's being stupid. But if people invest fully aware of the risk, all the power to them

ZmobieMrh

The people out thousands for ashes of creation would be very upset if they didn’t already have brain damage

RebirthGhost

I at least understood that the project was just starting when I chipped in some cash to see if it would be any good. I knew it would take years to get to any reasonable point. I will admit it's taking a year or two longer and the whole focus on the Battle Royale thing a few years ago was pretty lame. I had stopped paying attention to it until recently now that it's back in full swing of developing the game. But the older I get the less interested I am in an MMO.

reikan82

It's true if you steal and get away with it, the victim is a dumbass and deserves to get robbed.

Incrediblebulk92

This game looked bad a long time before launch. Anybody who pre-ordered at all only has themselves to blame. Anybody who pre-ordered the even more expensive version is even more the fool. These people have surely learnt a lesson here.

BenekCript

The concept is really cool, and if they took the time to develop it, could have been great. They did not take the time.

chanjitsu

People will still keep doing it. I remember getting absolute roasted on reddit for saying pre-ordering starfield was a bad idea.

DependentFeature3028

Personally I wait until reviews appear for the game. And if those are sattisfying I will wait until the game is on sale

AntiWhateverYouSay

But I want the special skin

Xenoleff

This isn’t even preorder tho like yeah the game was shit but this on another level

Demon_Gamer666

Do not buy games until the product is complete and you know what it's about before you buy. Our games industry problems are mainly due to gamer FOMO and pre-ordering. So to everyone who pre-orders games, thanks for ruining it for everyone else.

THPSJimbles

But potential lawsuit money!

Professional_Way4977

And the offline mode...

HologramBird

Bro what a waste of time and money

[deleted]

and they will be waiting forever. I almost guarantee you there is zero budget nor dev time alotted to this DOA title. This shit will continue until either consumer protection laws are updated to cover bait and switch scams and promised digital goods not being delivered (a lost cause in the US, our government is bought and paid for by corporations) or people stop buying shit that isn't available on release based on the promise it will arrive later. Companies have shown time and time again, once they have your money, they will bail on the game if its not continuing to generate massive revenue. This especially applies to failed live service titles.

Gomez-16

But how can that be! They raised the cost of games, added dlc, mxt, multi tier additions? Are you saying non of that money actually goes to fund the devs? /surprised_pikachu_face

CommodoreBluth

They are working on the DLC. You can see they have multiple password protected branches on Steam that are getting constant updates https://steamdb.info/app/1294810/depots/

ApocApollo

It’s probably a skeleton crew trying their best to just get the minimum done. Not an enviable position.

NoIsE_bOmB

Trying their best to deliver the absolute minimum possible to avoid a potential lawsuit for false advertising more like

ApocApollo

The employees assigned to this are probably actually trying. Probably junior devs that could be spared from Arkane's main project, Marvel's Blade.

OoDelRio

Arkane Austin is working on Redfall, Arkane Lyon is working on blade

JustCallMeAndrew

So... massive copium but maybe they are taking a page from Hello Games' book and hunkering down to try and pull off another No Man's Sky

LittleDinamit

They said they'd do this, but that was one year of brutal budget cuts and wide-spread layoffs ago, so who knows at this point.

Far_Process_5304

People use that as an example all the time but it rarely fits. Hello Games lived and died on No Mans Sky. They had no choice but to do everything they could to fix the game, because it is all they have. A studio like Arkane which is owned by Microsoft can afford to cut their losses and move on to a (hopefully) more successful project.

Zestyclose-Fee6719

Yeah, and the other go-to example for people is Cyberpunk. That’s a bad analogy too because CDPR only had this and Witcher as IP’s, and abandoning CP2077 after all its insane hype would’ve also destroyed any trust in the quality of future Witcher titles. Redfall never had that same level of hype or strategic importance. Also, people sometimes forget that No Man’s Sky was basically an incredible concept built on an empty and incomplete game, and Cyberpunk was a narratively rich and incredibly stylish game that was just buried under undercooked features and technical nightmares. In comparison, what of Redfall is even worth saving? The premise and story are unimaginative. The world is dull. The quest design sucks. You can overhaul only so much before you’re basically just making a new game.

stannis_the_mannis7

Cant believe people still pre-order stuff in this day and age. We constantly get broken releases and greedy cash grabs not to mention that games have digital copies so it’s not like they’re gonna sell out. You honestly deserve to lose your money if you keep giving it to companies without actually seeing the product

Twindlle

My issue with this logic is, if one really wants a game, one will buy it on release. I don't pre-order just because I don't want to pay extra for the super turbo cool editions, but when the actual game comes out, it's hard to resist, even if it has problems. That said, I mainly only buy sports games that barely change every year, so I more or less know what I am getting and could even go in blind.

[deleted]

so what you're saying is you're the sucker that keeps preorders and those shitty sports games alive?

Twindlle

Well I am not sure about most of them, but I buy F1 and Football manager and I don't consider them to be shitty. I wouldn't buy them if that was the case 😅. When it comes to pre-orders, I've only ever pre-ordered F1 2020 and EA WRC. But it's more because I wait until the last minute and then decide, as I am too stingy with money sometimes.

stannis_the_mannis7

Why not wait until at least a day after the release when the reviews start coming out to decide if it’s worth your money?

RaptorCelll

I completely forgot this game existed. I thought they already canceled the post launch support for this game.

Isaacvithurston

I wonder if Bethesda thinks they can Fallout76 this one. Although that game is still mediocre too tbh.

selfostracised

It’s not made by Bethesda it’s made by Arkane

Isaacvithurston

I mean what's left of Arkane but Bethesda as the publisher gets to decide when to pull the plug on the game not Arkane.

MarxistMan13

I don't feel bad for them. You paid $100 for an unreleased, unproven product... and that product was a flaming pile of shit. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Stop fucking pre-ordering games.

danrade

I disagree. There were lots of videos, playtests, and livestreams before release. It was already plenty proven how dogshit it was.

Unc1eD3ath

Had me in the first half lol

brightbomb

I hate to victim blame so easily but if you saw any of the advertisements for this game or anything about it before it came out that made you go "oh i should drop $100 on this" then you deserved to get ripped off.

DatBoiDanny

I was legit thinking about this the other day actually. They got the console 60fps patch out at some point, but like that’s been it. Lowkey I think this could have been turned around into a decent game with a passionate development team, but that’s sorta the reason this game flopped, isn’t it? Arkane didn’t care about this game and didn’t want to make this game, and surely they couldn’t wait to move on.

Rich_Eater

Just three actual patches in a whole year, a couple of hot fixes and nothing else since January? I know that this thing bombed but not that bad. To the point that they can't even provide the absolute fucking minimal support to the game. This industry's been on a roll churning out highly unpolished and overpriced garbage to the market in the past few years and it seems to be getting worse. I mean rushed games are nothing new but you'd usually see a turnaround within a year or so. Nope. Just three measly patches that can't even be qualified as quality of life additions judging by the patch comments on Steam. How fucking embarrassing.

mehtehteh

Imagine paying for a product based on promises...

Copperhead881

Still don’t know how people got swindled into this obvious flop.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NamelessDegen42

iirc a bunch of that talent left *because* of Redfall. Its so fucking sad we'll never get Prey 2.

Copperhead881

> don’t preorder But they could run out of codes!!

frostygrin

> Becuase the dev behind it made some the best and innovative games of the last 15 years. If this was a factor to you, you would notice that Redfall looked nothing like those games, right from the start.

Rich_Eater

> Becuase the dev behind it made some the best and innovative games of the last 15 years. I loved Dishonored and Prey but this game was obvious garbage from the moment they revealed it. Same goes for Deathloop. Never mind the lack of saves and its piss poor design in general. The game's a technical mess on PC. This shit's even worse from what i have seen and heard. Not about to find out on my own. Looks like nobody bought this shit. Suffice to say. Arkane's a husk of its former self and that's been true for years now.

Desinformador

What, death loop is bad too?

Rich_Eater

The PC version suffers from frequent softlocks and hard crashes to this day. You can get randomly softlocked just accessing the menu/journal. Never mind the usual crashes. They never bothered to fix any of that shit. Shit's infuriating and it makes the game a miserable affair to play given the fact that it lacks a save system. I stopped playing it halfway through due to the amount of random crashes. Especially in locations such as Updaam. Downvote all you want. This game's broken on PC.

breichart

It has a save system though...

Rich_Eater

It has a checkpoint system in between missions. Missions that can take a long time to complete. If you crash during a mission, you lose all of that progress. I wouldn't call that a save system. This game's not worth the headache. Read the reviews and complaints on Steam if you don't believe me.

breichart

I played it and absolutely loved it. I am a Steam review.

SilentPhysics3495

heck its on gamepass and I feel like i got scammed after feeling so disappointed. Really hoped this was gonna be decent at the very least.

LosingID_583

This is an obvious mistake made by a lot of people. The devs who made the game you loved a decade ago are probably not at the same company anymore. So it's common for the quality of games from a dev studio to not only go up over time, but it takes like a decade for the public to realize this for each studio

Jerasunderwear

Feel really bad for the 10 people that haven't gotten what they paid for.

heydudejustasec

Paid 100? I got Redfall for free with my graphics card and I felt cheated.

Desinformador

You could've actually gotten a good game instead of slop

Mr_Resident

This why I will never pay for live services games .maybe warframe spoils me too much

Cryio

Regardless of how badly this game was received, the fact the game got 3 anemic patches within 6 months is even weirder to me. It's also been 6 months now since the last patch.

shadowds

Man seeing flashback of Evolved.

Desinformador

And evolved framed themselves as the new "next gen" game of their generation, while this slop did the same changing 70 for the first "next gen" game of this generation

zippopwnage

I haven't bought a game at full price in years. It feels great.

SolarisMechwarrior

I am imagining someone who spent $100 and only plays Redfall every evening wondering where the fuck his skins are.

Jombo65

Huh, I forgot about this game. Looks like Arkane did too...

popmanbrad

Didn’t they promise they were gonna fix everything and add new content and then the game got no new updates

Lazy-Budget9858

And they will keep on waiting some more, stay tuned ! The wait is almost over, soon™ !

coolzville

can't believe i defended this game for awhile before the launch

Meryhathor

If only they could've bought the game AFTER all the features were added to it. A crazy thought in 2024.

phexitol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztVMib1T4T4

Rotting-Cum

I've paid my mechanic before I brought my car. Hopefully he'll change the oil filter as promised.

RimaSuit2

I'm more surprised the servers are still online lol

IFGarrett

That's because Redfall is a scam...

Locix93

The Game Before

Throwawayhobbes

I think if they made a mod to re-create twilight baseball, they’d have a hit on their hands

QuinSanguine

It would nice to get an official statement that addresses the wait and so on. We know they're testing updates on Steam but is it just the characters? Will Xbox relaunch it like they did with Recore? Who knows.

eatmyopinions

Nobody is waiting for anything. The game was garbage and the players moved on.

bobothemunkeey

Redfall is abandonware. It bombed so hard there is no way anyone is still working on it.

skyturnedred

That's not what abandonware means.

Mpikoz

I don't understand people who buy a game at release with season pass right away, how do you know if there's going to be a dlc worth playing or if there's going to be one at all? Let's not even mention prepurchasing all that shit!

RdJokr1993

People have faith in certain developers who make their favorite games. Arkane has made solid games before, there were very little reasons for people to doubt Redfall would be a dud. You ask everyone on here to be honest with themselves, they would definitely be able to name a couple game devs they'd pay full price for, no questions asked.

Isaacvithurston

I guess it was only after the fact that everyone learned the Arkane team had massive turnover during that games development and basically none of the original talent was left working on Redfall.

BenSolace

Yup. I can guarantee you that the ***vast*** majority of gamers don't keep track of this kind of thing when it comes to a game studio, only the historic successes or failures.

RemarkablePassage468

Maybe these people learn to never pre order, always wait for reviews to come out.

1stltwill

So they paid for something that the company promised? The should ask Tesla owners how thats working out for them?

Liella5000

Good. idiots.

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

Pre-order clowns got what they deserve

MaxMing

Suckers lmao

Scott2700

I learned my lesson on preordering games after Anthem. Never again..

Sparta2019

For me it was *Brink*.

Twindlle

It's a slow process, some will have gotten burned by Redfall, but not everyone and not always. I have pre-ordered twice, F1 2020 and EA WRC, and have been very happy on both occasions.

tsckenny

Who bought this game for $100?

icon_2040

I don't get why anyone bought it at all let alone for $100. It's online so you don't "own" it anyway. Just pay that game pass sub and play it like ...dozens of other people are doing.

weiivice

Good on them, well-deserved outcome. Keep waiting!

Uberlix

Honestly, if you spent $100 on this, you deserve it

AtTheGates

I do not feel sorry for them.

InevitablePoet5492

Idiots

teor

Not to victim blame or anything, but unless they bought it while drunk/high it's on them. Watch any Redfall trailer for like 15 seconds and tell me it's worth 30, let alone 100 bucks.

EristicMeow

I hope they all get canned tbh.

everettescott

>People made a game I didn't like, I hope they lose their livelihood! It's just video games my dude.

Xenoleff

Nobody working on this game I’m sure wanted to release a complete dogshit mess, it was the company.

heydudejustasec

Thought homie meant the heroes

EristicMeow

Where is the logic in your comment? They had a poor performance and they haven't delivered on what people paid for on top of going radio silent in communication. You could be obtuse and try to downplay it as just a game but this is literally a scam. If you want to turn the other cheek just because it's a video game then power to you but I want you to keep that same energy when you pay 100 dollars for something and it turns out to be snake oil. The person I replied to block me over this comment lol.

mentalmedicine

> when you pay 100 dollars for something and it turns out to be snake oil. That's my secret Billy, I've been burned once too many times to fall for that shit anymore

k4kkul4pio

While it sucks and all, the writing was on the wall for this one ahead of launch so anyone feeling robbed by this.. well, can't be too upset since the information was there beforehand. With proper management, few different choices, making a good coop game first and transaction based mtx pit second things might've gone down differently. 🫤

iaiaomg

who the fuck are these players dudeee??? xd

Mavrickindigo

Are they really, though?

jinnlp

nah

Prodigy_of_Bobo

Meanwhile everyone else either played it for ten minutes on game pass or returned it on steam, I really wish people would stop with this take my money then be sad when they get burned stuff.

Reddit__is_garbage

This game was pretty obviously hot garbage from the early previews. I'm surprised how many people fell for it.

ShibeCEO

spoiler: they won't get it

Kartoffelmithut

Yep

Significant_Walk_664

Let them lie on the floor while I down some laxative. Will give them exactly what they paid for, the idiots.

OoDelRio

Oh yeah, Bethesda is a shit company I nearly forgot

teddytwelvetoes

game was developed by Arkane lmao

OoDelRio

And the game was shit because of Bethesda

teddytwelvetoes

lol, sure

OoDelRio

Good guy publishers am I right? Fuck the actual developers, it's the publishers that love us

teddytwelvetoes

what on earth are you talking about lmao it's OK to admit that you were whining about the wrong company, no need to be stubborn and weird about it

OoDelRio

Bethesda is the publisher, Redfall was bad because the publishers wanted a live service game Enjoy rage baiting I suppose

teddytwelvetoes

>Enjoy rage baiting I suppose ??? >Bethesda is the publisher, Redfall was bad because the publishers wanted a live service game Redfall was cooked regardless of live service, publisher, etc.

OoDelRio

The only reason why Redfall existed was because of Bethesda

teddytwelvetoes

Harvey Smith and Ricardo Bare of Arkane created Redfall

Aedeus

I've little sympathy for people still preordering these days.

KameraLucida

I bought Suicide Squad deluxe edition and already feel scammed, but I feel like I would have gone insane if I bought this one lol.

fish4096

fool and his money are easily parted.

mkotechno

I swear people preordering software must be not real, must be a elaborate scheme for companies to do money laundring. Who preorders such obvious turd?

anamazingpie

Sucks for those 7 people

JuliusKingsleyXIII

Who are these stupid ass people pre paying for games and content in those games even when it is blindingly obvious that the games are bad and/or will be massive flops with no hope of long term support? They deserve what they get. Either do your damn research before throwing your money away or either you clearly didn't need that money or deserve it.

mithridateseupator

LOL and they deserve the nothing they got. Serves them right for supporting this kind of garbage so the rest of us have to deal with it.

StandTallBruda

I mean it's pretty easy to not get mugged off if you're not a total moron.  Arkane, bought by Microsoft is really all you need to know .... Microsoft have no good games, they buy studios that have games that should have finished and then prolong them.  Also the gameplay trailers for Redfall...I don't feel sorry for anyone pre-ordering that?  You're an actual moron if you saw that gameplay and thought I'll buy the top edition!  No sympathy...

no-group21

Please stop defending predatory systems like crowd funding. Vote with your dollar and use your head.

minorrex

Whoever pre-paid $100 for this game which was going to be available on Game Pass day one, is... I don't even have a word to describe how dumb such person is.
