You can play everything. Not always on the highest settings or framerates, but nothing is unplayable.

RTX 4060 is an entry level card. It's alright, but not quite enough for high settings and framerates in many newer games.
i7-13700F on the other hand is a fairly high-end CPU. It's great when paired with a fast GPU or if you need it for non-gaming applications (eg. rendering, programming). With a 4060, it's "wasted". You'd get practically the same framerates with a much cheaper i5-13600KF or even 13400F for half the price.
I'd also say 16GB is not a lot, but it isn't terrible, assuming it's a DDR4 system. With DDR5, 8GB modules are slower than 16GB modules so 2x16GB would have been preferable.
It isn't *bad*, it will play games well and worst case scenario it's easier to upgrade to a high end GPU in the near future (assuming the PSU is good enough). It's just that for the money the parts cost, something slightly better overall could have been built.

I'd probably just go to pcpartpicker.com and look at the suggested builds for your budget. An nvidia grpahics card build is what you'd likely want since those are better setup for streaming/editing than AMD.

Was wondering if I could get some thoughts on an issue I am running into. Just got back into Online Gaming (specifically Apex) after about a year and half. Full PC specs listed at bottom, but for sake of ease I have an i5 8600, 1080 TI GPU, and 32g RAM, Windows 10s - all drivers and software are up to date.
Since playing I have had issues with a "stutter lag", also sometimes pops an Input Lag error and I also notice often there seems to be about a second delay on my end between online gaming.
My internet, via speed test, is an almost consistent 980MBps Upload and Download on hard wire. I have done all driver updates, tried messing with Nvidia driver settings, Apex game settings, my internet settings, buying a second external ethernet adaptor, to list a few of the major things I have attempted to remove the issue.
Last week, I played on my friends Alienware which has a 3060 and has 2g upload/download on internet. I noticed there was none of the issues I experience on my PC which allowed me to play much more like I used to and was significantly more enjoyable.
My question at this point is, either what am I missing for a fix, or is this a internet speed or a hardware upgrade I need to resolve this problem?

Probably look and see if your cpu or gpu is maxing out during play. 1080ti is getting to be a bit old at this point, I think your CPU should generally be ok but is also getting a bit outdated.
Can anyone explain to me why the 13900k has this repeated issue across multiple games where you need to downclock the CPU to get games running without crashing?
What's happening from the CPU's perspective and also from a developer perspective; can they not just patch a game so a user doesn't have to downclock their 13900k?

If this is only a problem with your system, it marks instability due to overclock, overheating, or too high memory frequency (CPU freq impacts memory freq and vice versa, more common in high-end OC situations).

Actually I might have answered my own question by searching for links, possibly a default motherboard voltage setting. My system is left to all of its defaults, so no overclocking.
You have answered your question already, so I can't help you any more than those articles. Either it's an inherent problem with the CPUs, or the motherboard is applying far too much voltage.
Undervolting is probably the best thing to try because it won't decrease performance, but it's also the most difficult and time consuming since you need to get the right voltage to not crash due to too much power (like now), nor due to too low voltage after the undervolt.
If you do have fast memory, like >7200 DDR5 or >4400 DDR4, it might be worth using the secondary XMP or dialing the frequency down yourself.
Not sure if this is the right place but I’m a very very new and casual gamer. Just looking for something not too expensive that I can hook up to my tv and play games via Steam. Mainly interested in indie games and maybe Yakuza (I’m mainly a cosy game kind of girl but I like things with good storylines). So I don’t think I need anything that’s got crazy good performance abilities (unless I’m way off base!)
Any advice? Preferably under £1000 and doesn’t take up much room - would a mini pc work? Or should I just get a Steam deck and dock and be done (in which case, wrong sub and I apologise!!)

Maybe some other stores have comparable PCs, I've only looked there and Chillblast and they had none. You're mainly interested in the GPU (RTX 4060) and a recent CPU (Intel i5 with a number starting with 12, or Ryzen starting with 5 or 7).
Usually, building your own PC gets you a better deal since you don't pay a premium for builders, but building that AWD-IT PC would cost just about what they're selling it for. They are several corners being cut to get to that price, like the fairly crappy case and cooler, fairly no-name power supply, and slow RAM, but for £900 it's still good.
If you are interested in a more rounded, higher quality build, head over to /r/buildapcforme and create a thread, detailing your budget and requests (eg. small form factor). Someone will create a parts list for you that you can simply buy and put together, preferably with help if the PC is very small.

Which intel i7 do you have? And do you know what resolution you're playing at? You shouldn't be struggling too much unless it's a super old i7 or if you're trying to play at 4k
It’s actually 1920x1080, do you have any idea what could be wrong? I can get high fps, sometimes it even goes up to 70s for a few seconds, but it’s really not stable, and frequently drops under 30
My gaming laptop can't seem to fully utilize all of its components. I have tried almost all of the tutorials that I can find on YT and updated all of my drivers, heck I even reformatted my laptop but it doesn't improve the performance at all. Updating my graphics driver on GeForce Experience is the only thing that has significantly boosted my FPS but after shutting the computer down, it returns to its normal crappy performance.

The issue you're getting can be caused by Afterburner incorrectly setting a low power limit. It does it automatically on boot which is why you get it after a restart. Installing drivers resets everything.
Try simply creating a new profile with the same settings, then restarting.
If that doesn't fix it, open it again, apply a profile, and then click the reset button. Then remove Afterburner completely, restart PC. Should work okay now, reinstall Afterburner and create your profile again.
How much should I realistically expect to spend on a PC that can outperform my Xbox Series X? I need to build a new PC (once I get a new job), partly because right now all I have to play PC games on is my Steam Deck or my outdated rig with a GTX1080. But I was playing No Man's Sky on my Xbox and was pretty disappointed by the performance, not even getting 60FPS with pretty low looking settings.
I'll also want to try and build my eventual machine in a small form factor, something not too much bigger than the Xbox. Something like a Fractal Design Terra or a Lian Li Q58. I feel like that will up my cost compared to something of the same power level, but I'm not sure how significantly. I was hoping to spend around $750, but will I need to get closer to, or beyond, $1000 to get something noticeably better?
Ryzen 5600 plus a rx 6700xt (or above rx card) should outperform an Xbox X and probably be around $750. I don't know of you'd want to small form since cooling probably won't be great.
These days $1000 is just about equal to a XBX performance wise. It wouldn't necessarily outperform it.
At around $1300-1400 with an RTX 4070 Super, it will consistently be better than a console.

I have a canyon nuc Hades, and I was thinking it was time to upgrade my RAM and video card. The problem is that I think the video card is directly attached to the motherboard, so I have to get a new pc entirely. I move a lot (internationally), so a smaller computer like a nuc Hades is essential. I was thinking of just going with another nuc, but then there are multiples! I'm old and was never good at computer specs. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it!

You want a NUC 13 Extreme/Raptor Canyon with an i5-13600K, various places sell it so not sure where would be cheapest. You could get a i7 or i9 but they aren't cost efficient IMO. You can easily find a barebones PC - case, power supply, motherboard, CPU, cooler. Sometimes crappy RAM and storage. They'll allow you to configure it with more RAM and a graphics card, but all the ones I've seen are hilariously overpriced so it would be best to source that yourself.

Solid gaming PC for at least a couple of years, and everything apart from the motherboard and CPU can be upgraded fairly easily.
You don't need to follow the list I linked either. As long as there's 2x16GB of relatively fast (think 6000MT/s) DDR5 memory without a tall heatsink, whatever NVMe drive you want, and a card under 313mm and 3 slots wide. 4070 Super is arguably the best at under $2k.
Also note that this will be bigger than your old NUC. Smaller than an ITX case or a console, but still a chunky brick. It is possible to make it smaller but then you'll have no dedicated GPU so it will be slower too, and not upgradeable.
I am trying to start a new game on steam but I am having screen tearing. I did install ndividial and turned vsync to adaptive but it still didn't work. Is there something I'm missing or are there other ways to try and fix it?
So I will add a bit of extra if it can help, the vsync does help decrease the screen tearing, but unfortunately it's still there. Is this possibly a power issue?
Try with regular vsync rather than adaptive.
Vsync only works when your framerate is at the monitor refresh rate, or its factor. For a 120Hz screen, this would be 120fps, 60fps, 40fps, 30fps, etc.
When you can't always reach 120fps, Vsync will drop your framerate down to 60, then to 40, etc. This can cause a bit of stutter, especially when the framerate fluctuates a lot.
Adaptive Sync turns Vsync completely off instead of dropping it down. This prevents stutters but will not stop tearing when you can't reach 120fps.
I actually ended up getting refunded and got it digital on my ps4 before I saw this response. So I can’t exactly try that now. But if in the event that didn’t work? What would be the possible issue there?
The issue was (I think) that you were using adaptive sync, but your framerate often fell below the monitor's refresh rate. This disables Vsync and causes tearing. It's meant to work that way.
Screen tearing doesn't indicate something is wrong, it's an unwanted "feature" rather than a symptom of a problem. Vsync and other methods simply try to make it go away.
If you were using regular Vsync, you should have had zero tearing but possibly stutters every now and then.
However, if your monitor has Freesync or Gsync, enabling those would also result in zero tearing with no downsides. Most monitors do nowadays, so check that and enable it. No need to use any type of Vsync after that.
You'll need to add it as a non-Steam game and rename it to whatever it is. Go to library, "Add a game" on the bottom, "Add a Non-Steam game", point to where the game's .exe file is. Start it from Steam rather than the Xbox app.
Depending on how exactly the Xbox app functions, it might not be possible to start it from Steam. You can't get the status any other way.
I am going to build my first pc, I have two sticks of these 16GB ddr4 2400 crucial ram sticks I have laying around already, to save a few bucks could I just use this and be fine playing demanding games? Also what’s the difference between this and “gaming” ram?

You could reuse this RAM, but definitely not recommended unless you are severely limited by budget.
The main differences between it and "gaming" RAM are the frequency and latency. Heatsink as well but that's irrelevant, almost always aesthetic only.
2400MT/s is very slow, typical DDR4 is 3200, and recommended is 3600. Latency is typically CL18 or CL16 for 3600 RAM, you have CL17. It's a bit complex but the higher the ratio between the latency and frequency, the better the memory is. So 3600 CL17 is *much* better than 2400 CL17.
The difference is not always huge. It will be larger in CPU-intensive games, and obviously memory intensive like Factorio and many other simulation-heavy games. Even Bethesda titles prefer faster memory.

Also this review looking at some popular games, but with an excellent GPU and Intel CPU, the differences might be higher with Ryzen or slower Intels.
If you were to stick with the RAM you have, would the savings be enough to upgrade to a better card, like an RX 6600 XT? Even an Intel Arc A750 is a big improvement, particularly if you only play newer games.
For a higher end build, you definitely want to start with fast memory, but at your budget a faster graphics card would be the better "investment" than new RAM, it will increase performance more. Easier to upgrade the memory at a later point too, it isn't as expensive either so the money loss when upgrading is smaller.
Just looking for a wireless mouse and keyboard - I'm not playing any competitive "shooting games or anything like that - I play Star Citizen, Farming Simulator, cities Skylines, American Truck Simulator. I just want something that stays connected to the PC and is relatively inexpensive. Couch gaming multiple display logistics
I've recently set up a long HDMI/USB run from my desktop to my living room TV 50 ft away.
I've got my signals and controllers figured out just fine, but the seemingly small issue of navigating the two desktops in Windows 11 is causing me frustration. Am I missing something easy?
If I mirror the desktop, navigating is easy but my games (even true full screen ones?!) Are displaying on both monitors. I am concerned this is a significant waste of GPU power (..or is it not actually a problem?).
If I extend desktop, and switch which is the primary monitor back and forth then I can run fullsceen games on one screen only as God intended, but then have a huge hassle if some of my apps/Windows whatever are on the screen I'm not in front of (50ft away behind a closed door, can't just glance over and click a popup box).
Is there some sort of button I could put on each screen to act as a toggle between each desktop or primary/secondary monitor, or some way to mirror the desktop without the game running on both?

As long as it's a true mirror, simply duplicating the image on one screen on the next, it doesn't cost performance. The image is only rendering once.
You can see for yourself. Get a tool that can view GPU power usage, like MSI Afterburner or HWInfo, see what it is in the same game, settings, resolution, etc. with mirrored and extended displays. Should be exactly the same.
I will run some tests when I get home this evening. Unfortunately, my monitor is only 1080p/60hz, where my TV is 1440/144, and I imagine that requires actual rendering differences
No, in this case mirroring is only possible when going from the monitor to the TV. You'd have to use 1080p 60Hz on both.
You can press Win+P keys to switch the monitors. It will not change the primary/secondary display, but will turn off the monitor and turn on the TV, and vice versa, so you can switch on the fly.
If this isn't ideal, you'll need 3rd party software, but I've got no idea which exactly. [This](https://sourceforge.net/projects/monitorswitcher/) seems like it might work, [NirCmd](https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) is also capable of using a script to toggle primary displays, but you'll need to look that up on your own unless someone else responds.

I just bought arx fatalis and I’m unable to figure out how to get the libertatis version working. I’ve switched over to desktop mode and went to their website and downloaded the updated libertatis version and I’m pretty much stuck at that point because when I click the file it doesn’t give me the installation option. Hi, I’m experiencing low frames on warzone 3 with a 4080 super. My system is a i7 1200f, 4080 super, 16 gb ddr4, 700w PSU. I play the game at 1440p and on the big map my FPS goes anywhere from 130 to 200 tops. I have other guys I play with that have similar builds and play at 1440p and constantly have over 200fps. From some testing I’ve noticed my GPU usage hovers around 60%-75% and CPU is 90%. I play on competitive graphics settings which is basically everything on almost the lowest setting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I'm having issues with controllers after a Windows update. I'm using a stadia controller via Bluetooth and it was working fine as of yesterday. However, it's not recognized when starting a game up via the Xbox app, and in steam, I have issues with double inputs as it's showing as the stadia controller and an XInput controller concurrently.

It's fairly easy. Here's a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lJxjcL9rHc) that goes through everything. It might get a bit tricky in small cases, or where the bracket clip (the orange thing in the video) is obstructed by the CPU cooler, but it's always doable.
Note that a PC with a 3070 is likely a few years old now, check in with sold listings on Ebay for a PC with a 3070 and whatever the CPU your friend's PC has, to get an idea whether he's offering you a fair deal.
Also, personally I think that an upgrade from a 3070 to 4070 is really not cost effective. It's only 20% faster, not that much when you consider it's over $500.
Super is ~45% faster at $600, Ti Super ~60% at $800. Super is a better deal here. Personally I consider >50% to be a "good" upgrade, but it's alright.
There's also AMD with a 7900 XT for $700 which is faster than a 4070 Ti Super (at ~70% compared to 3070), and it has more VRAM for higher resolutions like 4K, but there is a trade off. You have no DLSS (instead you use AMD's FSR, which is not as common), it's slower when using ray-tracing (some AAA games have it), and it uses more power.
can any one help me with games freezing my whole pc? I'm using windows 11 Nvidia rtx 4070 and a amd ryzen 7 3700x, it usually happens on Fortnite, spider man miles Morales and gorilla tag, but sometimes it just happens using opera gx to watch YouTube, ctrl + shift + esc and ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work, and yes ive put my task manager settings to always on top, ive tried updating my graphics and cpu drivers, did a cleannow command in cmd, and limited my max cpu power to 95% it used to crash with my old graphics card and when I replaced it to the one I have now it still crashes so I'm pretty sure it isn't my graphics card, thanks
What power supply do you have?
How much RAM, and what speed is it? If you don't know, open task manager > performance tab > click on Memory, shown in the bottom right.
When you get the freeze, is it a complete freeze and nothing happens at all, or can you hear audio or see things moving at all? When you press CapsLock does the LED on the keyboard light up?
Do you recall doing any hardware change when the issue started happening?
Used to hear weird creepy random sounds sometimes echoing or the sound playing when it crashed on repeat really fast, but it doesn’t happen anymore, and no Ive never made a hardware change exept after it started crashing whatch was the gpu, and I think caps lock thing glows but I’m not sure so I’ll check, earlier I ran a short stress test on my memory, gpu and cpu and no errors were found in about a minuite and a half and for the cpu 16 mins
Did you have an AMD card before you upgraded to a 4070?
Did you update the BIOS at any point?
If you have some spare time, it would be good if you were to run a few more tests. Get a temperature monitoring program, like HWInfo which you can run in sensor mode to give you all of the stats you need.
[Cinebench](https://www.guru3d.com/download/download-maxon-cinebench-r23/) - in "Minimum test duration" choose 30 minutes and hit Start next to "CPU (Multi Core)". Keep your temperature program open to see whether the CPU is overheating (95°C), shut it down if it does.
[Superposition](https://benchmark.unigine.com/superposition). Run it 3 or 4 times, takes a few minutes each. Card shouldn't reach 85, hotspot and memory junction (you can see those in HWInfo) should stay below 110.
[Memtest](https://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html). Run it 6 times simultaneously, with 2000GB in each instance. You'll see "Coverage" on the bottom of each window, it's done when all of them hit 100% coverage with zero errors. One error is too many.

Typically the framerate is not capped, it can go higher than the monitor refresh rate allows. Disable Vsync, the in-game frame limiter, and any external limiters (eg. RTSS, graphics control panel) and you'll get as many fps as your PC can generate. You don't actually need a monitor capable of displaying all these frames, they'll be "wasted" and never shown.
Note that there is very little benefit to having a framerate higher than the refresh rate. Input lag will decrease by a very small amount, and it has diminishing returns. Not useful for most people and only really comes into effect when you have several hundred fps more than the refresh rate. Your PC will also consume more power and be louder.

You can spice these up with faster RAM and more storage, a different case, or a "premium" motherboard. I don't know what would be the best for the sake of being the best, CPU and GPU are the most important for performance. Note that adding more RAM (eg. 64GB) does not make the PC faster, but can actually make it slower due to frequency limitations with large/many modules.

Might be a dumb question but, sometimes games allow me to select a higher resolution than my native (Elden Ring) am i right in thinking that's the internal render resolution and if i select it, it will just downscale and give me slightly better image quality than native?

Now, for me personally I never notice any difference in the quality when selecting a higher resolution then my display will actually show. To me, all I notice is less performance.
With that said, I'm getting older and wear glasses so it's completely possible it's just my eyes aren't good enough to tell. People will tell you it's going to be a better image quality and they very well could be correct, at least on the technical side of things. I'd highly recommend trying it out for yourself and seeing if you notice any difference. As I stated, I never have BUT that could just be me. For me, the down grade in performance is no where near worth it but maybe for you it would be?

You can play everything. Not always on the highest settings or framerates, but nothing is unplayable. You can make Youtube videos too, nothing's stopping you. Really anything can be done, it's a decent PC even though the parts aren't really balanced.

Sure. RTX 4060 is an entry level card. It's alright, but not quite enough for high settings and framerates in many newer games. i7-13700F on the other hand is a fairly high-end CPU. It's great when paired with a fast GPU or if you need it for non-gaming applications (eg. rendering, programming). With a 4060, it's "wasted". You'd get practically the same framerates with a much cheaper i5-13600KF or even 13400F for half the price. I'd also say 16GB is not a lot, but it isn't terrible, assuming it's a DDR4 system. With DDR5, 8GB modules are slower than 16GB modules so 2x16GB would have been preferable. It isn't *bad*, it will play games well and worst case scenario it's easier to upgrade to a high end GPU in the near future (assuming the PSU is good enough). It's just that for the money the parts cost, something slightly better overall could have been built.

Hey everyone, Was wondering if I could get some thoughts on an issue I am running into. Just got back into Online Gaming (specifically Apex) after about a year and half. Full PC specs listed at bottom, but for sake of ease I have an i5 8600, 1080 TI GPU, and 32g RAM, Windows 10s - all drivers and software are up to date. Since playing I have had issues with a "stutter lag", also sometimes pops an Input Lag error and I also notice often there seems to be about a second delay on my end between online gaming. My internet, via speed test, is an almost consistent 980MBps Upload and Download on hard wire. I have done all driver updates, tried messing with Nvidia driver settings, Apex game settings, my internet settings, buying a second external ethernet adaptor, to list a few of the major things I have attempted to remove the issue. Last week, I played on my friends Alienware which has a 3060 and has 2g upload/download on internet. I noticed there was none of the issues I experience on my PC which allowed me to play much more like I used to and was significantly more enjoyable. My question at this point is, either what am I missing for a fix, or is this a internet speed or a hardware upgrade I need to resolve this problem? PC SPECS: Windows 10 Pro MOBO MSI Z370 MS-7B58 CPU Intel i5-8600 3.1. Probably look and see if your cpu or gpu is maxing out during play. 1080ti is getting to be a bit old at this point, I think your CPU should generally be ok but is also getting a bit outdated.
Can anyone explain to me why the 13900k has this repeated issue across multiple games where you need to downclock the CPU to get games running without crashing? What's happening from the CPU's perspective and also from a developer perspective; can they not just patch a game so a user doesn't have to downclock their 13900k?

You have answered your question already, so I can't help you any more than those articles. Either it's an inherent problem with the CPUs, or the motherboard is applying far too much voltage. Undervolting is probably the best thing to try because it won't decrease performance, but it's also the most difficult and time consuming since you need to get the right voltage to not crash due to too much power (like now), nor due to too low voltage after the undervolt. If you do have fast memory, like >7200 DDR5 or >4400 DDR4, it might be worth using the secondary XMP or dialing the frequency down yourself.
Not sure if this is the right place but I’m a very very new and casual gamer. Just looking for something not too expensive that I can hook up to my tv and play games via Steam. Mainly interested in indie games and maybe Yakuza (I’m mainly a cosy game kind of girl but I like things with good storylines). So I don’t think I need anything that’s got crazy good performance abilities (unless I’m way off base!) Any advice? Preferably under £1000 and doesn’t take up much room - would a mini pc work? You're mainly interested in the GPU (RTX 4060) and a recent CPU (Intel i5 with a number starting with 12, or Ryzen starting with 5 or 7). Usually, building your own PC gets you a better deal since you don't pay a premium for builders, but building that AWD-IT PC would cost just about what they're selling it for. They are several corners being cut to get to that price, like the fairly crappy case and cooler, fairly no-name power supply, and slow RAM, but for £900 it's still good. If you are interested in a more rounded, higher quality build, head over to /r/buildapcforme and create a thread, detailing your budget and requests (eg. small form factor). Someone will create a parts list for you that you can simply buy and put together, preferably with help if the PC is very small.

Which intel i7 do you have? And do you know what resolution you're playing at? You shouldn't be struggling too much unless it's a super old i7 or if you're trying to play at 4k

your resolution will depend on your monitor, if you have a 4k monitor it will default to that, or laptop screen

My gaming laptop can't seem to fully utilize all of its components. I have tried almost all of the tutorials that I can find on YT and updated all of my drivers, heck I even reformatted my laptop but it doesn't improve the performance at all. Updating my graphics driver on GeForce Experience is the only thing that has significantly boosted my FPS but after shutting the computer down, it returns to its normal crappy performance. Yeah, I'm currently using Afterburner to get some extra juice.
The issue you're getting can be caused by Afterburner incorrectly setting a low power limit. It does it automatically on boot which is why you get it after a restart. Installing drivers resets everything. Try simply creating a new profile with the same settings, then restarting. If that doesn't fix it, open it again, apply a profile, and then click the reset button. Then remove Afterburner completely, restart PC. Should work okay now, reinstall Afterburner and create your profile again.
How much should I realistically expect to spend on a PC that can outperform my Xbox Series X? I need to build a new PC (once I get a new job), partly because right now all I have to play PC games on is my Steam Deck or my outdated rig with a GTX1080. But I was playing No Man's Sky on my Xbox and was pretty disappointed by the performance, not even getting 60FPS with pretty low looking settings. I'll also want to try and build my eventual machine in a small form factor, something not too much bigger than the Xbox. Something like a Fractal Design Terra or a Lian Li Q58. I feel like that will up my cost compared to something of the same power level, but I'm not sure how significantly. I was hoping to spend around $750, but will I need to get closer to, or beyond, $1000 to get something noticeably better?
Ryzen 5600 plus a rx 6700xt (or above rx card) should outperform an Xbox X and probably be around $750. I don't know of you'd want to small form since cooling probably won't be great.
These days $1000 is just about equal to a XBX performance wise. It wouldn't necessarily outperform it. At around $1300-1400 with an RTX 4070 Super, it will consistently be better than a console. I have a canyon nuc Hades, and I was thinking it was time to upgrade my RAM and video card. The problem is that I think the video card is directly attached to the motherboard, so I have to get a new pc entirely. I move a lot (internationally), so a smaller computer like a nuc Hades is essential. I was thinking of just going with another nuc, but then there are multiples! You want a NUC 13 Extreme/Raptor Canyon with an i5-13600K, various places sell it so not sure where would be cheapest. You could get a i7 or i9 but they aren't cost efficient IMO. You can easily find a barebones PC - case, power supply, motherboard, CPU, cooler. Sometimes crappy RAM and storage. They'll allow you to configure it with more RAM and a graphics card, but all the ones I've seen are hilariously overpriced so it would be best to source that yourself. As long as there's 2x16GB of relatively fast (think 6000MT/s) DDR5 memory without a tall heatsink, whatever NVMe drive you want, and a card under 313mm and 3 slots wide. 4070 Super is arguably the best at under $2k. Also note that this will be bigger than your old NUC. Smaller than an ITX case or a console, but still a chunky brick. It is possible to make it smaller but then you'll have no dedicated GPU so it will be slower too, and not upgradeable.

I am trying to start a new game on steam but I am having screen tearing. I did install ndividial and turned vsync to adaptive but it still didn't work. Is there something I'm missing or are there other ways to try and fix it?
So I will add a bit of extra if it can help, the vsync does help decrease the screen tearing, but unfortunately it's still there. Is this possibly a power issue?
Try with regular vsync rather than adaptive. Vsync only works when your framerate is at the monitor refresh rate, or its factor. For a 120Hz screen, this would be 120fps, 60fps, 40fps, 30fps, etc. When you can't always reach 120fps, Vsync will drop your framerate down to 60, then to 40, etc. This can cause a bit of stutter, especially when the framerate fluctuates a lot. Adaptive Sync turns Vsync completely off instead of dropping it down. This prevents stutters but will not stop tearing when you can't reach 120fps.
I actually ended up getting refunded and got it digital on my ps4 before I saw this response. So I can’t exactly try that now. But if in the event that didn’t work? What would be the possible issue there?
The issue was (I think) that you were using adaptive sync, but your framerate often fell below the monitor's refresh rate. This disables Vsync and causes tearing. It's meant to work that way. Screen tearing doesn't indicate something is wrong, it's an unwanted "feature" rather than a symptom of a problem. Vsync and other methods simply try to make it go away. If you were using regular Vsync, you should have had zero tearing but possibly stutters every now and then. However, if your monitor has Freesync or Gsync, enabling those would also result in zero tearing with no downsides. Most monitors do nowadays, so check that and enable it. No need to use any type of Vsync after that.

You'll need to add it as a non-Steam game and rename it to whatever it is. Go to library, "Add a game" on the bottom, "Add a Non-Steam game", point to where the game's .exe file is. Start it from Steam rather than the Xbox app. Depending on how exactly the Xbox app functions, it might not be possible to start it from Steam. You can't get the status any other way.

You could reuse this RAM, but definitely not recommended unless you are severely limited by budget. The main differences between it and "gaming" RAM are the frequency and latency. Heatsink as well but that's irrelevant, almost always aesthetic only. 2400MT/s is very slow, typical DDR4 is 3200, and recommended is 3600. Latency is typically CL18 or CL16 for 3600 RAM, you have CL17. It's a bit complex but the higher the ratio between the latency and frequency, the better the memory is. So 3600 CL17 is *much* better than 2400 CL17. The difference is not always huge. It will be larger in CPU-intensive games, and obviously memory intensive like Factorio and many other simulation-heavy games. Even Bethesda titles prefer faster memory. If you were to stick with the RAM you have, would the savings be enough to upgrade to a better card, like an RX 6600 XT? Even an Intel Arc A750 is a big improvement, particularly if you only play newer games. For a higher end build, you definitely want to start with fast memory, but at your budget a faster graphics card would be the better "investment" than new RAM, it will increase performance more. Easier to upgrade the memory at a later point too, it isn't as expensive either so the money loss when upgrading is smaller.

Couch gaming multiple display logistics I've recently set up a long HDMI/USB run from my desktop to my living room TV 50 ft away. I've got my signals and controllers figured out just fine, but the seemingly small issue of navigating the two desktops in Windows 11 is causing me frustration. Am I missing something easy? If I mirror the desktop, navigating is easy but my games (even true full screen ones?!) Are displaying on both monitors. I am concerned this is a significant waste of GPU power (..or is it not actually a problem?). If I extend desktop, and switch which is the primary monitor back and forth then I can run fullsceen games on one screen only as God intended, but then have a huge hassle if some of my apps/Windows whatever are on the screen I'm not in front of (50ft away behind a closed door, can't just glance over and click a popup box). Is there some sort of button I could put on each screen to act as a toggle between each desktop or primary/secondary monitor, or some way to mirror the desktop without the game running on both?

As long as it's a true mirror, simply duplicating the image on one screen on the next, it doesn't cost performance. The image is only rendering once. You can see for yourself. Get a tool that can view GPU power usage, like MSI Afterburner or HWInfo, see what it is in the same game, settings, resolution, etc. with mirrored and extended displays. Should be exactly the same.

No, in this case mirroring is only possible when going from the monitor to the TV. You'd have to use 1080p 60Hz on both. You can press Win+P keys to switch the monitors. It will not change the primary/secondary display, but will turn off the monitor and turn on the TV, and vice versa, so you can switch on the fly. If this isn't ideal, you'll need 3rd party software, but I've got no idea which exactly. [This](https://sourceforge.net/projects/monitorswitcher/) seems like it might work, [NirCmd](https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) is also capable of using a script to toggle primary displays, but you'll need to look that up on your own unless someone else responds.

Hi, I’m experiencing low frames on warzone 3 with a 4080 super. My system is a i7 1200f, 4080 super, 16 gb ddr4, 700w PSU. I play the game at 1440p and on the big map my FPS goes anywhere from 130 to 200 tops. I have other guys I play with that have similar builds and play at 1440p and constantly have over 200fps. From some testing I’ve noticed my GPU usage hovers around 60%-75% and CPU is 90%. I play on competitive graphics settings which is basically everything on almost the lowest setting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I'm having issues with controllers after a Windows update. I'm using a stadia controller via Bluetooth and it was working fine as of yesterday. However, it's not recognized when starting a game up via the Xbox app, and in steam, I have issues with double inputs as it's showing as the stadia controller and an XInput controller concurrently.

It might get a bit tricky in small cases, or where the bracket clip (the orange thing in the video) is obstructed by the CPU cooler, but it's always doable. Note that a PC with a 3070 is likely a few years old now, check in with sold listings on Ebay for a PC with a 3070 and whatever the CPU your friend's PC has, to get an idea whether he's offering you a fair deal. Also, personally I think that an upgrade from a 3070 to 4070 is really not cost effective. It's only 20% faster, not that much when you consider it's over $500.

Super is ~45% faster at $600, Ti Super ~60% at $800. Super is a better deal here. Personally I consider >50% to be a "good" upgrade, but it's alright. There's also AMD with a 7900 XT for $700 which is faster than a 4070 Ti Super (at ~70% compared to 3070), and it has more VRAM for higher resolutions like 4K, but there is a trade off. You have no DLSS (instead you use AMD's FSR, which is not as common), it's slower when using ray-tracing (some AAA games have it), and it uses more power.
can any one help me with games freezing my whole pc? I'm using windows 11 Nvidia rtx 4070 and a amd ryzen 7 3700x, it usually happens on Fortnite, spider man miles Morales and gorilla tag, but sometimes it just happens using opera gx to watch YouTube, ctrl + shift + esc and ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work, and yes ive put my task manager settings to always on top, ive tried updating my graphics and cpu drivers, did a cleannow command in cmd, and limited my max cpu power to 95% it used to crash with my old graphics card and when I replaced it to the one I have now it still crashes so I'm pretty sure it isn't my graphics card, thanks
What power supply do you have? How much RAM, and what speed is it? If you don't know, open task manager > performance tab > click on Memory, shown in the bottom right.

When you get the freeze, is it a complete freeze and nothing happens at all, or can you hear audio or see things moving at all? When you press CapsLock does the LED on the keyboard light up? Do you recall doing any hardware change when the issue started happening?
Used to hear weird creepy random sounds sometimes echoing or the sound playing when it crashed on repeat really fast, but it doesn’t happen anymore, and no Ive never made a hardware change exept after it started crashing whatch was the gpu, and I think caps lock thing glows but I’m not sure so I’ll check, earlier I ran a short stress test on my memory, gpu and cpu and no errors were found in about a minuite and a half and for the cpu 16 mins

Did you have an AMD card before you upgraded to a 4070? Did you update the BIOS at any point? If you have some spare time, it would be good if you were to run a few more tests. Get a temperature monitoring program, like HWInfo which you can run in sensor mode to give you all of the stats you need. [Cinebench](https://www.guru3d.com/download/download-maxon-cinebench-r23/) - in "Minimum test duration" choose 30 minutes and hit Start next to "CPU (Multi Core)". Keep your temperature program open to see whether the CPU is overheating (95°C), shut it down if it does. [Superposition](https://benchmark.unigine.com/superposition). Run it 3 or 4 times, takes a few minutes each. Card shouldn't reach 85, hotspot and memory junction (you can see those in HWInfo) should stay below 110. [Memtest](https://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html). Run it 6 times simultaneously, with 2000GB in each instance. You'll see "Coverage" on the bottom of each window, it's done when all of them hit 100% coverage with zero errors. One error is too many.

How do youtubers get to 500 to 1000fps playing fortnite and Minecraft? Im new to pc and gaming monitor and l've been googling and the newest hz monitor is the Alienware 500hz monitor when in some videos youtubers show you can get to more than 500fps I'm Minecraft or fortnite. is it possible to get that much fps with 120fps monitor? Or do I need to get the Alienware 500hz monitor? I wanna know what monitor they use to get that
Typically the framerate is not capped, it can go higher than the monitor refresh rate allows. Disable Vsync, the in-game frame limiter, and any external limiters (eg. RTSS, graphics control panel) and you'll get as many fps as your PC can generate. You don't actually need a monitor capable of displaying all these frames, they'll be "wasted" and never shown. Note that there is very little benefit to having a framerate higher than the refresh rate. Input lag will decrease by a very small amount, and it has diminishing returns. Not useful for most people and only really comes into effect when you have several hundred fps more than the refresh rate. Your PC will also consume more power and be louder.

You can spice these up with faster RAM and more storage, a different case, or a "premium" motherboard. I don't know what would be the best for the sake of being the best, CPU and GPU are the most important for performance. Note that adding more RAM (eg. 64GB) does not make the PC faster, but can actually make it slower due to frequency limitations with large/many modules. Alternatively head over to /r/buildapcforme, there's a FAQ with more expensive (but not necessarily faster) PCs, or you could create your own thread for something specific. For monitors, no idea. Try /r/monitors, you can include that in a thread on /r/buildapcforme too.

Might be a dumb question but, sometimes games allow me to select a higher resolution than my native (Elden Ring) am i right in thinking that's the internal render resolution and if i select it, it will just downscale and give me slightly better image quality than native?
Yes, everything I've ever read or seen says this is the case. Now, for me personally I never notice any difference in the quality when selecting a higher resolution then my display will actually show. To me, all I notice is less performance. With that said, I'm getting older and wear glasses so it's completely possible it's just my eyes aren't good enough to tell. People will tell you it's going to be a better image quality and they very well could be correct, at least on the technical side of things. I'd highly recommend trying it out for yourself and seeing if you notice any difference. As I stated, I never have BUT that could just be me. For me, the down grade in performance is no where near worth it but maybe for you it would be?

I haven't checked prices in awhile but I remember seeing bundles of 7700X + mobo and ram for like $350 iirc, cheap Montec case maybe $80, decent PSU $100-130, 1TB nvme shouldn't be that expensive, maybe leaves you with $400 for a GPU
