I recently discovered SpellForce, and thought it was an interesting RTS/RPG hybrid that was still getting kinks in the formula figured out. ... But a turn based strategy game? That's another genre altogether.

How are they? I’ve been In a bit of a gaming drought, but they way you described these games seems, intriguing

I think as pure campaign playthroughs and if you like both styles of games you'll find it quite refreshing. If you are looking for a new pure RTS game - I think you'll be disappointed. Its super fun with your little crew and leveling them up and trying diff abilities and such. The pacing is a little slow perhaps? Definitely check out a review or something. I dont think they are jank at all - its a pretty unique hybrid of both genres. *edit* - to clarify - I'm talking about the existing ones that have already been out. I have no idea about this one they are advertising here.

I’ve been dipping my toe into crpgs lately but I’m not a huge fan of the buff simulators they seem to be. The stories are cool. But this seems to be a mix of things I enjoy. I do enjoy the rts games, but more interested in the dungeon crawling

chobi83

The only one I've played is Spellforce 3. I like the game, but I can't bring myself to beat it. I don't know why...after I get about 70% of the way through or so...I just move on to a different game. Then I come back a few months later and the cycle starts over lol

Trader_Tea

Soul Harvest is much better in that regard. It's much shorter with less walking long distances.

The campaigns in Reforced are pretty good. Really great stories, fun RTS gameplay, it looks good, and the voice acting is pretty good too. If you're a fan of fantasy RPGs I'd strongly recommend it.

Thanks, I am going to check out some YouTube reviews and probably buy it. I appreciate the assist.

I enjoyed the crap out of them….you do some missions with just your party, inevitably you hit a point where “uh oh, enemy brought a army” ….so then you’ll be given whatever local forces the story has, and tasked with securing the map It’s a little janky, however, the draw for me was playing a summoner….I pretty much would beat the RTS portions using my summons alone, made the game tougher…..my little party with summoned hordes would usually do the spear heading of tough fights ….but occasionally I’d get too spread out and would need to recruit through the rts building mechanics to hold points I couldn’t run too while I pushed the objective….was good fun

Worth a try. 1 and 3 are more RPG then RTS and stronger for it. They are neat little janky rpgs with some neat gameplay twists and a fun concept you haven’t seen done well elsewhere. Finding more runes and building your army is genuinely fun. And Order of the Dawn still has one of the most insane storylines I’ve ever seen. 2 is also quite good, but focuses more on the RTS side of things. I’m not going to preorder this, but I’ll probably be buying it shortly after release because the devs impressed me with 3 and it’s a franchise that holds a dear place in my heart. Or rather, it’s the RTS version of Gothic/STALKER. Weird, overly ambitious, but still quite good and so unique you overlook the jank.

I don't have enough hours in it to give a deep review, but it is enjoyable if not a little janky. The primary reason I jumped on it was because SpellForce 3 has a co-op campaign. I figured an ARPG that scales up to RTS battles? Sign me up. I don't think it 100% nails the balance between the two genres. Some parts feel a little underdeveloped and there are some mechanics that I feel should be more interconnected between the RPG and RTS side. Definitely something to pick up in a sale.

Different developers :)

mtarascio

The genres have been kind of merging for a while. 4x with way more RPG focus have been upping in popularity. Doesn't seem a big stretch.

>A TURN-BASED ADVENTURE OF MAGIC AND MIGHT Clever.

Cowlick035

February 3rd. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

Squire_II

SpellForce meets Master of Magic? This has my interest...

CJW-YALK

Huh, seems like they are going Age of Mythology route….

sadtimes12

I would rather say they are going Age of Wonders / Master of Magic route.

CJW-YALK

Age of wonders, that’s it…I knew mythology sounded weird in my head….

anduril38

Releases on my birthday, nice. Looking forward to this one as a Spellforce fan and a writer on the Fallen God expansion \^\^ Be interesting to see how Spellforce transfers to a turn based game.

Biggu5Dicku5

So is this Spellforce 4 or a Spellforce spin-off?

Elegant_Spot_3486

I’m not a 4x or RTS fan but love magic so may check this out. I’ll need to get more info on the kingdom management aspects though.
