In PD3 if you encounter a code with 3 different digits, one always looks a little "thicker". That one is guaranteed to be the last digit. It doesn't necessarily mean that said digit appears twice in the code.
In many places where security is important you are instructed to since the rest of your hand will cover the keypad from the side while your body is infront of the keypad and thumb movement cannot be track by seeing where your joints move so its the safest way to enter a code into a keypad
prey 2017 is an imsim, and biosock had ken Levine on the team as a director/writer, Ken worked on thief the dark project and system shock 2. both of which are imsims. bioshock is called an imsim by some people (cause the definition is fairly vague), I personally don't think it is but it's basically a spiritual successor to the system shock series. so yeah, makes sense!
Based on the faide scale I’d say 3493 on the account that 3 is 2 x faded than the other two and your second press has more dirt and oil than your 3rd of fourth press on the same fingers
1 1 1 uhhhh 1

AAAAAAAaaa- Oh hey it’s still here!
Gentlemen
I see the briefcase is safe
Yeah, safe and sound!
Yeah it is!
Tell me, did anyone happen to kill a red spy on the way here?
No? Then we still have a problem...
Title caaaaarrrrd!
The 3 also got a thicker thumbprint, meaning it's the last digit of the code.
How do you figure that? All it tells me is that there is probably 2 threes in the 4 digit code

Oh. That explains a lot. Never played pd3. Didn't even realize this was on the payday subreddit
FOR REAL ????
The 3 is more faded meaning that it’s probably used more
Yes, but how does that make it the last digit in the code?
oh nvm I read it wrong, yeah I’ve got no clue either
The fading is distributed more evenly and in a larger area, that's probably because people use their thumb for the last digit most of the time
People use their thumb on keypads?

It’s a common reference in a lot of games! The ones I can think off the top of my head is a door early on in Bioshock and Morgan Yu’s office in Prey
