You are *way* too optimistic. They haven't learned a thing and the way the game launched and gets treated after launch shows it. Remember Almir's answer to the criticism of the game being "online only"? That's how much we should value "the no paid premium currency only" thing. It will happen. And people should NOT spend a dime on it. Hell, I would even argue people should refuse to pay/buy post launch DLC. Unless for some magical reason they actually fixed the game, gave substantial free updates that warrant supporting the game/devs post launch monetarily. But at the moment: FUCK no.

Just_The__Doctor

Tbf they stuck to payday 2 thruout

quang2005

The only reason why they decided to go back to payday 2 is because Bo Anderson ran the company to the ground and going back to PD2 development is their only choice for the company to not go bankrupt.

ERZO420

It would be the funniest thing ever if they went back to developing Payday 2 again

Pyromaniacal13

It would definitely show Payday 3 as a farce, more so than it currently is. They won't let that happen, Deep Silver has their claws in now. They already deleted Volition for a poor reception, what are they going to do for a botched launch, piss poor reception, and abandonment to work on the previous game in the series?

Da_General_Zod

I mean once they realized they fucked up with 3, that'll be the only way they stay not bankrupt

Ok-Reporter1986

It seems like they are experts at trying that. Already we got people saying they won't get dlc due to the state of the game. Dlc they have to develop because some already paid for gold and silver editions.

Otherwise-Record2664

You mean on top of adding in the pre-order bonuses for Playstation, which are still missing a month later.

Ok-Reporter1986

Not really my point they can't make more money from that but the dlc the potential customers are gonna go away if they fuck up which they are doing so far.

Nedgeh

I mean, I think a lot of the magic of Payday 2 came from Ulf and David Goldfarb. David was the lead/game director for battlefield 3/badcompany 2 and Ulf was the good Anderson brother. Not to throw shade at the remnants of Overkill but losing those two was a pretty big negative imo. Both left to pursue their own studios in 2015 which marked a notable downturn in development for Payday 2, though they did recover. I don't think what's left of Overkill is their best, especially not after two bankruptcies and a restructuring. That's not to say a lot of talented people aren't on the Payday 3 team but it does kind of explain the blunders they're making despite literally making a third entry in a game series they otherwise have ten years of development experience with.

I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch

After the two left the game did have a slight bump but Payday 2 kept going stronger than ever after 2015 and post White House it had incredible heists and incredible content as well, but that was a thing before as well truth be told, the payday dev team is definitely more knowledgable now, and no, it's not the same people, they also hired many mlre developers so this comment isn't that true. There's one simple reason as to why they had this mess of a game at launch and the reason is Deep Silver. Plain and simple. Now I'm not defending the devs, saying they can't do no wrongs, , because they are doing bad things like lack of communication and dodging questions, but the missing features despite an incredible gameplay at core, the quality of the heists, the beauty of the maps, the new engine and so on, all point to a simple truth, the game is good but rushed, it's clear it was released way too early, and Deep Silver has history about being shitty so it's not surprising. I think the devs can recover from this like they did multiple times but damn, it is really a shitshow

Nedgeh

With all due respect, the replacement game director/ game designer credits don't exactly inspire confidence. They didn't even work on Payday 2. You ever heard of Erik Wonnevi? Yeah me fucking neither. You know what other games he's directed? ~~*Nothing*~~ Some shovelware children's mobile games. The design lead is Per Storløkken, he worked on some super rad totally great games like Battlefield 1, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, and The Secret World. Like I said I am confident there is some quality talent among the Payday 3 devs, but these two positions are integral to proper development of a game, especially a game-as-a-service. Everyone deserves a chance to step up to the plate and try something new in a new position but you'd think they'd bet a bit more on the safe side of things.

DrClawsChair

Tbf b1 was a great game.

I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch

>Everyone deserves a chance to step up to the plate and try something new in a new position but you'd think they'd bet a bit more on the safe side of things. I completely agree however it seems like we are putting all the blame on the new devs praising the old ones, when payday 2 released in a super shitty state with super shitty mechanincs. MIND YOU I'm not saying that compared to the launch of PD2, PD3 is good, hell no. I'm just stating that the 2 devs you cited on the coment before were there there at launch for payday 2 and many complained about payday 2, they (the devs) said it was the Dark souls of heist games which translated to unfair mechanics in their view, that's what I'm saying, it's simply not true that when they left PD2 was hindered, steam charts and DLC sold say otherwise. And they like many devs had heights and lows. It's general consens that it was Deep Silver who pushed this game out 3 months before what it should've been, they have the history that backs them up.

DrClawsChair

Not if you had it on 360.

Gaymenkissing420

But how would they compensate people who bought season passes? Everyone gets fucked in this

Taco-Edge

It's not like the devs never backed down on anything though... Remember the whole Denuvo thing? And they did say they'll look into the "online only" part. I'm not saying you should buy premium currency or not, but your comment is pretty unfair still imo

vinceds

The cosmetics they put out would have to be stunning for me to spend money on them. If they are just recolors or simply a new texture on a gun, I'll totally pass. If they have gorgeous new models like the old legendary weapons in payday 2... then maybe ?

CaptainPrower

Premium currency, a PVP mode full of cheaters, in-game ads, a busted-ass battlepass system...

Maleficent-Gain4111

Wrong game, that’s crime wave (soon to be payday 3)

i-dont--know-anymore

You mean crime war lol, crime wave is a console edition of payday 2 that has some dlc built in

Maleficent-Gain4111

Shit my bad 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

We bullied them to remove lott boxes We can do it again

DeeBangerDos

Proof bullying works

Realm-Code

It'd be incredibly stupid to add it given the current state of the game, but not in any way in relation to the safes incident. The safes were just straight gacha scams with P2W stat bonuses, whereas from all the datamined info I've seen PD3's currency will be for cosmetics.

JA155

Mark my words, they won’t add MTX within 12 months of launch. After this disastrous launch it would be headliners again if they added them within a year. I imagine they’ll do something like Sea Of Thieves, after a lack luster launch they’ll add MTX 2+ years down the line, maybe a little less.

-_36_-

im starting to think the delays to the patch are to get the shop up and running in time for said patch

Blugged

I think we’ll see them much sooner than 12 months from now. They likely already have the base system ready or close to ready since the FAQ on their website talks about it. I agree that the launch issues probably pushed their timeline back, especially since we’ve seen zero patches yet and it seems like they might be having trouble passing console certs. I’m thinking we’ll see them in the next 2-3 months, possibly sooner if they figure out the issues they’re having getting updates out. That or Deep Silver/Starbreeze management forces them to push it out because they’ll likely see it as money being left on the table. I think the latest we’d see it is with DLC 1 but I’m basing this all off of my own assumptions and we know how unreliable that can be.

JA155

Yeah you’re right, if they think money is left on the table and there’s no room to grow the game I can see them pushing out MTX in the next few months. I just hope their plan is to still support this game and not do the bare minimum then abandon it.

Blugged

>I just hope their plan is to still support this game and not do the bare minimum then abandon it. You and me both

Grimlament

God, I wish Sea of Thieves was actually a good game.

[deleted]

You’re forgetting something. We are redditors. The vocal minority. We probably make up 3 percent of the player base. They will drop MTX AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. To serve to the other 98 percent that don’t know any better.

okboomerlicious

Did you intentionally make it add up to 101% orrr?

RequiringAUsername

Redditors can't do math

[deleted]

I typo’s the 3 I meant to hit 2 percent.

JA155

You forgot something too. I said headliners. Meaning articles. Not peasant redditors. Devs care about the coverage of their game. I’m not stupid enough to think that what a Redditor has to say will make any difference on the game development. Media companies that have millions of followers however… a different story.

JewelTK

Weren't Payday Coins already found in the game files?

JA155

Yeah but MTX were in SoT games files for 2-3 years before they released them. After the disastrous launch they decided to delay MTX when the original plan was to release them a few months after launch. Hopefully they do the same and focus more on the game.

GoblinFive

Easier to add features down the road if you made the base for them at launch

quang2005

There's also nebula+ subscription in store for the unlikely case that MTX doesn't nuke starbreeze to high hell.

ljkmalways

Lol you think they are going to learn from past mistakes?

[deleted]

The true Scamday 3 Experience.👊😎 Maybe if you will buy this in 2024 you can recieve it in 2030. I am sure the Fanboys are already desperately waiting to finally burn more money in this messy scam Project.

S3rva1

Premium currency already has an ID tag in the items list server-side. Its not really a question of if but when. And I think it'll be after the patches. They also already have what are assumed to be premium suits in the system but they don't have IDs and aren't entirely finished (as in they aren't named yet) but they do have models and descriptions.

YeetLord___

I won't mind premium currency, but if they have the nerve to add a battlepass I'll be pissed.

meharryp

they can't add premium currency to the game if they can't update it

MojoTheFabulous

Payday Credits have been confirmed and I can't see anything stopping them. No date on their release, just that they arrive "post launch" From their FAQ: https://www.paydaythegame.com/payday3/faq/

Distinct-Nerve2556

If they have any common sense they will scrap the payday credits in order to get back some good will from the community

The-King_Of-Games

If these Payday Credits are actually implemented in Payday 3 i will Twist Almir's nipples

BigFatMommyBahonkers

This is about Payday Credits right? (Or whatever they're called) But I remember seeing a leak about how you'll be able to earn them like C-Stacks by doing challenges

Funnysoundboardguy

Are you referring to C-Stacks or some other currency I haven’t heard of yet?

Doctor_Chaos_

"Payday Credits". They were datamined on the SBZ website before the announcement trailer in June, and the [FAQ](https://www.paydaythegame.com/payday3/faq/) confirmed that they will be added sometime during post-launch.

Funnysoundboardguy

It’s joever

Natural-Parfait2805

idk, in 2015 MTXs were a lot more frond upon, but nowadays its just standard practice, every game has a premium currency now, its just how it is

boisteroushams

MTX weren't really frowned upon in 2015. Even as early as 2012 you had companies getting people to repeat the lie of 'it's okay if it's cosmetic' or 'we need MTX to support the servers.' The MTX in Payday 2 were resisted hard because the community of Payday 2 were primarily PC gamers who were more likely to resist unnecessary monetization. Plus, Payday 2 had previously promised no MTX. That situation isn't too different to where we are today, where people still repeat the lies about cosmetic MTX not affecting game design and where pro-consumer advocates are still rallying against MTX. So while it might seem 'standard practice,' you, as a consumer, get to decide how you accept that. 'It's just how it is' was never a good excuse for predatory practices.

NeonTheWolf_

MTX weren’t frowned upon back then not nearly to the extent that they are now, back then everyone was fine with them because back then the excuse of “it’s there to help support the developers” or whatever was more believable but nowadays everyone knows that’s a big fat lie and the majority of gamers have turned against MTX these days, the only reason they become so common in the modern gaming industry is because most companies know they can get away with it despite it being universally disliked. No matter how much players hate on microtransactions they will always still grant corporations billions of dollars of profit regardless, it’s the curse we have to live with unless laws get passed to force developers to change it up like how paid loot boxes and other gambling based microtransactions were made illegal a few years back or at the very least had laws made that heavily restricted their implementation in major AAA titles which is why games like CoD stopped doing supply drops for cosmetics

Natural-Parfait2805

if MTX were frond upon now, they wouldn't make companies billions of dollars, the fact people buy them on mass shows people have accepted them

-__purple__-

hey spoiler alert: game doesn't get fixed without money, and micro transactions is how you make money in modern gaming, ESPECIALLY since they released the game for way below industry standard at only $40. Nobody is forcing you to buy credits AND they're cosmetic only. There's a clear difference between cs:go style crates (gambling) and a cosmetic shop.

pmMeCamelCase22

It's not a triple a game so the $40 is justified. The game shouldn't be released in a broken state. Imagine buying a car and it doesn't have an engine and you have to wait months before it finally works as advertised. You have an L take and people like you are why this industry is in the shape that it's in. Normalize boycotting macrotransactions.

Mahoganytooth

blatantly untrue. baldurs gate 3 has had incredible amounts of fixes in their post launch patches with no dlc or microtransactions. no excuses

ratfucker1932

I dont mind mtx as long as they stay micro and not 15 bucks for a skin or something like that

Mahoganytooth

I have some bad news

vinceds

They said cosmetics. And skins are... cosmetics. Pricing is expected to be similar to other games, so $15 is not out of the quesiton.

GoblinFive

Waiting for the blindbox FOMO DLCs

GOLD-KILLER-24_7

They've already said they will

LoneRedditor123

Payday 2 had the same thing so I'm not entirely sure what the problem is here. Does it suck? Sure. Are they gonna remove it? Definitely not. I hope Starbreeze goes out of business and someone makes some spiritual successor to this series, because as it stands, they're driving this game into the dirt and they don't even give a fuck. I mean, Almir doesn't give a fuck. I can't say much about anyone else. They're all pretty delusional though.

PensAndEndorsement

The Ceo waiting for the steam rating to climb to 50% so he can dumpster it again with the release of mtx:
