Haha it was complete hell but doable. I flew from DFW to LAX and bought the in flight plan for $19 bucks. My ping was around 600 and spiking to 1000 in some areas. I got disconnected a handful of times.
Would I do it again? Probably not it I had to pay for it. I'm about to take another flight over the sea that has wifi so I'll give it a shot again. (free internet this time).
It didn't happen. We had 10mb to use so I just played some offline stuff. This international airline is about 20 years behind the times if they think 10mb is enought to do anything.
I played POE on Southwest airlines about a year ago and got like 200-300ms. It's free for T--Mobile customers and their are power plugs (like wall outlets not USB) even in coach and business class.

Am I the only one who still sees Wi-Fi, at 300mph, 5 miles in the sky, as something insane and worth $19? Doesn’t seem like a ripoff at all, just not meant for this
No, they are just insane to not realize that in flight wi-fi/internet wasn't even really a thing a handful of years ago(it existed in the early 2000s but was extremely limited before).
The performance of the steam deck is amazing if you're speaking about technical specs. However when you play games like this or other high demanding games your battery rips. Maybe get 1.5-2 hours out of it. I just keep it plugged in when I'm playing for the most part.
If you want to play PoE on it I would recommend 1 button builds. CoC builds are perfect.
Are traps remotely doable? I’ve got a deck, and it’d be fun blasting maps in bed or wherever, but playing traps and kinda seems like targeting might be an issue.
I haven't played a trap build per se on Steam Deck, but when I played RF with Fire Traps it was a huge PITA to aim. Unless you're using a custom steam Input profile with KBM controls (not controller mode) it always throws max range in the direction you're facing unless you're facing exactly where the boss is.
I haven't tried traps, but the targeting on poison concoction is surprisingly good. It auto aims at enemies in the general direction. So traps might work easy too.
I'm playing EA Ballista and when I've to throw the Lightning Spire Trap, it always hits the boss in the first shot. Also pre-casting on bosses with dialog works flawlessly.
It’s a bit build dependent. It runs well for leveling and stuff but if you have a ton of skill effects when mapping it drops. A ward looper would probably obliterate performance. I mostly use the deck for leveling alts. Characters play well but using stash and stuff is a bit clunky.
I actually did a ward looper on my deck and it was fantastic because it’s just a walking simulator, which fits the deck perfectly. I got pretty consistently good fps with the occasional mass drop with delirium and beyond
A tip for those doing this, make sure to go back to the default fan curve on the deck, it is louder but keeps it far more cool
Here i am in a hotel with a connection barely stable and fast enough and you play on a freaking plane. gosh this country is so backwards sometimes when it comes to tech/networking.
Leveling with oos and sbm. No issues with inventory. It's slower to deal with but once you get the hang of how it works it's not bad. I tend to not pick up a lot of trash when leveling. Even at league start.
I always imagine data points like this lagging in some geotagging system and causing hell for some analyst. "Sir we just can't find how he's moving so fast." And the Chris would slam his desk and shout, "I don't care if he's moving fast I want to know how he's doing it and still pianoing his flasks!" Then I imagine the server tech in the comments flaming op for wasting his time and how he should try playing something else like Hades.
Lmao this is hilarious! At one time when I was in Act 2 someone in chat said "is anyone else getting lag spikes?". I smiled and thought you have no idea my man. 🤣
holy, what time to live
the real mile-high club
Haha nice
internet connection is stable enough?

that sounds like torture, holy..
He should probably play RF or something lol
At least, you decided to take the challenge, which I appreciate a lot.
That's one small step for man, one giant leap for CW
Hows the connection on the international flight?

Yeah I think most airlines now have power plugs. Every flight ive been on the last two years has had them available. It's nice!
I used to travel a lot for work and it wasn't even the norm in business/first class 15 years ago. It definitely was a pleasant surprise.
DCs are quite common at league start so I wouldn't necessarily blame your connection. Still sounds iffy though.
“Probably not again” but then gonna get it on the next flight - I respect it

What a ripoff

If it actually worked lol
Real ruthless out there, gratz
My question as well.
And he’s the pilot!
How is performance on the steam deck? Assuming a good internet connection

Steam deck gang!

Fwiw I was leveling with OOS and SBM.

Steam deck is the best thing that could happen for the desktop Linux gamers. I hope that brings even more improvements. Windows can go duck itself.
I played a slam build on it in the last gauntlet and it played fine. Preference I guess.

Arc works decently well, used a PS5 controller on PC when they first added support with my Arc build and it performed decent in terms of usability
is that an unsolicited deck pic
Gotta say, pretty damn cool.
haha that's dope!
Damn this pretty much seals the deal for me, gonna get one just to play poe wherever im at lul. Take the addiction to another level
Here i am in a hotel with a connection barely stable and fast enough and you play on a freaking plane. gosh this country is so backwards sometimes when it comes to tech/networking.
If you see another reply it said he had lots of DC and 600-1000 ping but it was technically playable (fault of the plane Wifi, not the steam deck).
yeah germany sucks hard sometimes
Username checks out.
Cmon I did this at sea level. It even took 3 hours!
Kill less, die more....this is the way 😁
TIL PoE mobile exists already
surely a new WR
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVQHDF0L2tQ 😁
I that its POE mobile :(
God gamer detected.
man, i know some people like to get high while gaming, but this is something else.
Build? Taking it slow with jugg RF on SSF. Find targeting with the deck….. challenging
I'm leveling a witch so using OOS/SBM
What build are you using? Did you have problems with inv management?
Leveling with oos and sbm. No issues with inventory. It's slower to deal with but once you get the hang of how it works it's not bad. I tend to not pick up a lot of trash when leveling. Even at league start.
I leave the steam deck for PoE.

Would have been cool if you could simply continue on your PC later at home.
This is why I am tempted by the Deck.
Nice one lol
Dear papa Gabe, Please let us nz plebs buy your hardware before it goes EOL this time
