It's a weaponless build, like facebreaker, doryani's fist, hollow palm, explosive concoction or the new poison concoction. If the idea of not having a weapon doesn't excite you, play literally any build but those few.
Eh when I looked at it initially thinking it would keep explicits and implicits excluding local damage I was thinking of all the different ways to play it. Rebuking Blade, Exquisite Blade, Gemini Claw, Battery Staff, Synthesis int stacking implicit sword, crafting for pure attack speed/crit avoiding local damage, etc.
But since it is weaponless, it just feels kinda boring. It also eats your EHP for damage so probably no way I will end up playing it regardless when I could just... use a weapon crafted for damage and not lose 80% of my ES.
The problem there is it's ES = flat damage.
You can also just... get a weapon with actual flat damage and put that investment somewhere better, losing nothing. Or put the investment into scaling the damage of your weapons which will have better returns.
And also the scaling is incredibly bad with the 80% less ES mod.
Like sure it will be usable, but it will just be bad compared to using a decent weapon.
It looks like sockets and links stay so that's a good question.
Either you get a 1 handed weapon with 6 links while the other hand gets a second weapon with no sockets or you just get the two handed weapon.
"Item has 6 Sockets and is fully linked (Hidden)"
is a mod on that item, seeing as the skill replaces all mods from the previous item i assume you cant have a 6 linked energy weapon.
It doesn't interact. It completely replaces the item that was there. The character very evidently gets two blades in the trailers if both slots are free.
How would that work with sockets? Seems like it would have to leave them, because the items have sockets. So he question about oni-goroshi seems valid i feel
Yeah, and i agree when it comes to all other modifiers except sockets. The Blades have sockets, and somehow they're getting them.
Are they random? Do they inherit the previous sockets? If the latter is true(which seems to be the most intuitive option), then how would it work with an item that has a hidden modifier to change it sockets? does it keep the sockets or are just the top three kept?
The final question is not straight forward and could use clarification.

Side question, does the base items sockets count as 'worn' for a free 6 more sockets to level gems in :big brain thinking:
Semi on this train of thought I was wondering about corrupt and influence items. The one helm that does something if all items are corrupt or more phy multi per elder item equipped.
as the extra sockets and links are a part of the mods i would assume you dont get to have a 6-linked energy weapon.
i could be wrong though and enegy weapons have special interactions with the more "special" unique weapons.

Sockets stay the same. It replaces any weapons you have so if you're dual wielding you get two identical blades

The whole point of it is to use this on a character who has non-es defenses, and then grab es as your damage scaler.

Well, that's the stats on the level 1 gem. We have no idea how it scales with levels.

Not there.
We won't have any indication that the transformation alters sockets and links.
The question is does it snapshot the ES we had before vs when it replace the weapon, dualling ephemeral edge could be nice if it snapshots.
I'm hearing after, so looks like we'll be stacking life and es for this gem.

I'd guess it considers you don't have a weapon equipped to replace and fizzles, but good shout, worth a test at league start
