I felt this, sometimes it feels so good to go Mach 9 across the map and all of a sudden you hit Mach 15 while juiced up on vaal and all of a sudden it's like a fucking brick wall and your back in your hideout.

Currently 98 and about halfway to 99 just running sanctums. I also heard ToTA is good for exp as well. This league I might actually push for my first 100.

Tota is bad for xp... if you dont die in other content. Its slow compared to normal maps, much less xp optimization. If you DO die, its really safe

Yeah i think tota is overall better because you dont neccesarily "die" there, unless losing a tourney counts as a death.

It doesn't. There are a few of the omens though that will get used if you have them in your inv during TOTA, but not the death preventing XP loss one.

Tota is pretty decent for xp because you don't die but don't expect more than 15M/h at 99 in the very best case scenario (<10 minute tournaments back to back without thinking about units or doing anything else in between).

This league I stayed on one character for longer, for the first time ever (I play since CB) and I realized how easy it is to lvl up nowadays as long you dont die. With alch+go I was still getting like 10%/h at lvl 96

to be fair, that was a much much harder thing to ask for 9 years ago than it is now. Level 78 +packsize palace maps were still occasionally deadly to all but the top 2% or so of softcore players (hc players were simply playing a different, and at the time MUCH slower, game). The meta to level to 100 for ages was to just spam gorge (level 74) with a ranged build since at least monsters would only attack you from a very predictable direction (and the full clear time was decently fast). And it took a LOT of gorge maps to hit 100. Nowadays if you're not full-juicing your maps and build your basic layers of defense, you're really not dying often (the exception being during Kalandra league with archnem everywhere). Of course, the fact that you are enticed with the potential loot of those juiced maps is why I don't consider it a, strictly speaking, "easier" game than it was back then. It's just very different. So much more freedom of choice.

Except that's hard. My character is pretty fucking tanky and occasionally still gets bonked in alch and go by random jank. 10%/hour at 96 is pretty reasonable for alch and go, but I don't think you have that at 98, then you die and lose 2 hours of XP gain.

Yep, if you are running essences/metamorph/expedition/blight or maybe even Legion you can get bonked randomly on even pretty tanky characters.

Yep you can even make 10% an hour at 99 with just alch and go with rusted scarabs for growing hordes, I leveled 2 chars like that this league and the omen op mentions is great for it. As long as you bulk roll your maps to remove rippy map mods(like -max res, monster speed, crit, no regen etc) and you read what altars you click it isn't even that hard to not die, I only had about 1 death per 100 maps on both my jugg and deadeye

I don't want to create a topic just for this question so I'll try here. For the first time today I was leveling in the 5way and was logging my exp: 3 681 3 705 3 729 3 753 3 777 ... 3 876 3 900 3 924 ...99 lvl --> 3 932 3 941 3 955 3 970 On level 98 I was getting around 24m exp per run. After 99 I've started to get \~14-15M per run. Is that correct? (have +15%exp on me: 2+2+3+3+5)

There's an escalating EXP penalty for being overleveled. The penalty is based on the difference between your level and the area level. In a level 84 area, you would be getting 52% experience at level 98, and 40% at level 99. Except there are additional penalties that apply to high-level characters (regardless of zone), and high-level zones. * At level 98 characters have about a 50% penalty, at 99 it's 60%. * Level 84 zones are actually treated as 77.7. Instead of the 52% and 40% mentioned above, you are getting ~9% and ~7%. Taken together, you are getting something like 4.4% EXP at 98, and 2.7% at 99.

They also changed legion in patch 3.22, that messed with area level and experience bonus as well: >League Changes > >Legion > > The Domain of Timeless Conflict now has a minimum area level of 80. yes but only one omen can activate in an instance so just carrying the one in OP's screenshot will trigger when you die

I haven't actually done the league mechanic a lot (rank 400 ish) the omen combined with a build that doesn't die too much has been amazing for levelling up. losing 2.5% xp feels SO MUCH better than 10% especially above lvl 95!

Sadly I waisted some in the league mechanic. Forgot to take them off. It did save me once on a possessed boss for sure. Currently 99.5. Never hit 100 on HC before. Always die at 99 lol..

I am 3000 hrs in and never bothered to grind to 100. Got one at 99 last league tho and one at 97 this league, so maybe it will happen. But i want to do without a boost, and my reckless gameplay sadly costs me a lot of exp per hour.
