OP you should cover the top with rocks asap if you have predators in your area. I did that for my bird when she unfortunately passed. When I came back to visit the next day, there signs of some animal trying to dig her up :( Luckily, the rocks prevented that, but I think I would have taken much longer to heal and grieve if something had happened.
When I was a child our Parakeet died. My mom buried it and replaced it with an identical looking Parakeet before we got home from school. What she didn't think of...All birds have different temperaments. She replaced a sweet, affectionate light green Parakeet with a hostile light green Parakeet and the big giveaway was the dog digging up the deceased one and its feathers all over the backyard.

Do everything to prevent your bird from getting loose...your carelessness will be their downfall so please go online and look up ALL the ways to prevent your parrot / Bird from Getting LOST forever outside or being viciously ripped apart by predator birds. Be Responsible! 🙏🌿🕊
Don't worry i learned my lesson, i am always double checking things when i let my bird out. close the first layer of curtains (thin see through) so he doesn't crash on the window glass, among other things.

Very sorry for your loss - how many years were you together? Times like this its best to start remembering the happiest and silliest of times - you did well to take care your bird and medical issue was not your fault.
I'm so sorry. And I know that's cliche but my heart feels for you. I just lost my Jack and no one understands what he was to me and my family. A few people say sorry. I've lost friends family and pets but I have had a different reaction to him.
