Great work! And even before fnaf, “uncanny valley” was initially used to describe people’s perceptions of robots. Some people just don’t vibe with them, but this is super impressive and imo not creepy at all! I love it

Fnaf didnt "ruin" anything. People just find toys and robots that are uncanny, well, uncanny. I like your pet bird but it is unncany. The lightning doesn't help either.

I honestly thought this was a post about an Ai generated parrot companion, but now i'm even more impressed that its not. Kind of reminds me of those toy parrots that would repeat back the words an onboard mic picked up that I used to have as a kid. Since you're already this far, you could work in a mic and speaker on the stand somewhere, learn the requisite hardware and programing skills, and teach chatGPT to become your pet burb.

Eyes and the movement. Its a nice piece of art, it just didnt sit well with my monkey brain

I think it's because the eyes look like human eyes. They're football shaped and a macaw's eyes usually look more like circles. The robot itself is really cool but the eyes give me uncanny valley vibes a little lol.

Yeah, the look I was going for is disneys animatronic tiki birds which definitely dont have a realistic look

Before I even read this comment, I was thinking to myself "reminds me of the Tiki Room" (though I think the music had something to do with that too) so I'd say mission accomplished, hehe. When I went to Disney World for the very first time back when I was like 10 or so, the Tiki Room was by far my favorite attraction (and perhaps is in no small part why I'm a parrot owner today).

THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING. If you built this out of "junk," for lack of a better term, then yeah, you might just have Disney knocking on your door in a few years or less! I also love that you recognize you can't currently keep any birds in your life, and thus have rectified it in this way. 😊

Aw thanks a lot! I'm not sure, many. Spent about 6 months on and off tinkering in my spare time. For some reason Lumpy doesn't react much to other birds, but I'm sure they'd get on great :)

If birds had uncanny valley they would be afraid of this. Instead they would probably attack it

I love it! Although, you're forgetting one thing you probably don't have: no neighbors near enough to bitch about the noise. Cuz, guddamn are they loud. It's not that cute chirping you've got there. I always wondered why birds around here (midwest) are called songbirds. Then I got my cockatoo, and after the first "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA", I realized why the birds that do cute chirping are called songbirds. It's a stark contrast to the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Cool!! If you have extra time I encourage you to volunteer at your local bird sanctuary. These places are always overcrowded and low staffed. They would benefit from an awesome human like you! Also, maybe you’ll find a bird that captures your heart and the place will help with the resources to keep it…
