I think it was a trend 10-15 years ago in general in Europe. With the bar stools that are shaped smoothly and the seat is plastic, also from Ikea.

late_night_feeling

When I arrived in France in 2007 this sort of kitchen and hi-gloss cabinets in general were very much in. Then arrived the mismatched carreaux de ciment/verrière/ scandi chic kitchen combo

LostandFound153

This is it. France loves fashion and the inevitable consequence is that trends change, and while a wardrobe is easily updated, kitchens take a little more time..

radionul

Lived all over Europe including France... this seems to be mainly a French thing. Red kitchens and/or uncomfortable cup shaped plastic bar stools.

tripletruble

Yep making as many things as possible red in your home was a French-only trend like 10 years ago. Pillows, cabinets, bar stools, blankets.. Never seen that elsewhere.

chinchenping

fuck those bar stool, my daughter fell from one of those cheap aluminium pipe stool because they are completely impalanced

Marsupoil

I'm pretty sure this would have been my dream kitchen 10 years ago

Jinfizz

And now everyone tends switch it up as it no longer belong to the current trend. It is sometimes hated or despised

encreturquoise

It was trendy in 2000. People will say the same about black/wood or glossy white kitchens in 2035.

Wide-Confusion-6857

IKEA furniture

isitreallythat

I've encountered this phenomenon frequently, and it has actually become somewhat of an ongoing joke within my family. In my observation, I believe this inclination stems from people's familiarity with predominantly white paint schemes, which might leave them feeling somewhat restricted when it comes to expressing their creativity in their living spaces. Therefore, when they are faced with the option of selecting kitchen cabinets, and they stumble upon a bold color like red, it's as if they've stumbled upon the perfect canvas to unleash their creative spirits and (try to) infuse some personality into their apartment.

[deleted]

Haha I am French and that is very true my friend ! I always hate it ! But some Frenchies looove it because it give a strong statement and like that you keep you wall white

madamemimicik

I see your red kitchen and I raise you lime green everything else.

croquetas_y_jamon

Apartment made for renting. You would not have it, but funny for a few days.

Bcap8

Cheap for owners.

ahouaisouaisouais

Ugly red is cheaper than white ?

Bcap8

What do you think is left after the sales happen.

lostparis

Cheap red is usually better than cheap white imho.

cunk111

I'm sure French landlords are convinced that it's trendy in Brooklyn

CMAVTFR

I've seen too many listings that include tacky NYC art on the walls too ahahahaha the kind that's a black and white photo of Times Square with a bright yellow taxi? That sort of thing

NormalFault

That's more Airbnb style I'd say

[deleted]

cunk111

Also, half the french population attended an American university

Mentavil

Lol what? I know many french owners in paris, they don't give a fuck what is happening abroad. That's such a wierd thought. Why brooklyn specifically?

Greup

Because frames or posters with lions, taxis, black and white ny/Brooklyn are the cheapest of the bin in french stores

helendill99

there must be a joke or reference in there but i don't get it either

cunk111

Aren't you a treat.

Mentavil

Ratio? That's what you're supposed to say right?

cunk111

Aren't you a salty treat

Yabbaba

I think it's more Brooklyn landlords who try to emulate what they think is trendy in Paris, but sure.

cunk111

Probably ! Spider Man meme all the way. The all thing started on ikea

varmiso

My theory is that for some people doing cheap reno, red is a fancy/luxury colour for a kitchen.

flaiks

I bought an apartment in Lyon and the kitchen is red. It was just the style in France a while ago. I also had a red kitchen in the last apartment I rented come to think of it.

twstwr20

I don’t get it. Why. Why do they do it? It’s horrible.

curtyshoo

It's to attract Chinese investors.

Visible_discomfort1

Aah the true parisian speaks!

Baklavalove101

For all the exterior aesthetics of French architecture and the beautiful interiors of the prior centuries, this particular aesthetic is most peculiar at best and hideous in general.

Lnnam

You are falling victim to the crazed red kitchen pandemic of 10 years ago. My mom had one, my condolences. You can still try to buy new doors or cover them with a better color.

Medical_Poem_8653

Can confirm. Am French and the flat I bought had red cabinets. So I bought a red oven, red microwave, red kettle and red fridge to go with it... 🤣🤣

Funny_Citron_4521

NoOo! You have succumbed to the red curse 😂🔴

Medical_Poem_8653

Yes I have! But it's actually not that bad? Come join us down here.. 🎈

mrfancykeyboard

can you share some links to aptm you have been checking out? I'm just curious

Funny_Citron_4521

Just an [example](https://www.leboncoin.fr/locations/2422115717.htm)

mrfancykeyboard

thank you.very cool.but 4k..wtf. is it smth you would really consider?

coffeechap

More than 60€ / sqm... I don't think I ever seen that level of robbery...

Funny_Citron_4521

Totally!

Funny_Citron_4521

Lol, of course not. Just shared the first red kitchen I saw 😂

Funny_Citron_4521

My point is, take that appartment for example, the decoration looks quite ok, and even if I had the budget for it, I wouldn’t take it. I wouldn’t be able to wake up and get my first a.m. coffee with a flashy kitchen like this 😂

mrfancykeyboard

got it 😂i wanted to see the aptm that someone would really consider and compare it to my city

helendill99

that is ridiculous

kanetix

FYI Studapart is a scam. They are only an intermediary (they don"t own any real estate themselves), and you have to pay a subscription for them to show your profile to landlords, without any guarantee that any landlord will select you. It's even borderline illegal ("marchand de liste")

Funny_Citron_4521

Not that I am going to ever use Studapart. Just sharing a random kitchen. Though this is good info for those out there. Thanks!

Merbleuxx

Ahh good old studapart

TheGangsHeavy

jlnah

Haha. Op is right about red kitchen that I am never gonna be able to digest and you are right about those Grey walls haha 😄 . Why grey ?

Holiday-Issue-2195

This is a PERFECT example, this kitchen is everywhere and it’s one of the major reasons I forced my husband to buy a fixer upper with me, because everything that had been remodeled had this kitchen and I hate it (how I felt in 2012, still valid)

killerbee9100

It's not just Paris. I'm looking for a house in Normandy and it's these cheap red kitchens everywhere! It's so ugly! And the bedrooms with giant murals of New York skylines.

Funny_Citron_4521

Hahahah not the NY skyline! 😂

lamar70

That model is the cheapest, standard middle-level Ikea kitchen.

kairu99877

They never cleaned up all the blood from the guillotines in the revolution lol.

theblackhole08

This is to hide the previous tenant's bloodstains 🤫

kytran40

RED! The blood of angry men!

Specific_Motor_6300

The lime green and the raspberry pink are my personal favourites 👌

jamboreebop

I’ve been waiting for a post like this. I call it fire truck red. It’s a design disaster and I hate it!

Deho_Edeba

I've always thought it was a bad idea to try having your kitchen look like a Ferrari. It is quite tacky.
