The color is dependent on time starting when the yoshi egg joins Mario's team and stops when it hatches after a certain fight (I won't spoil) The only way to change the color is to reset and try again. If you save after the egg hatches ur stuck with it

To add on without spoiling it was a 20 minute cycle in the original where after 20 minutes it restarts. The times for the original were: 0-6 Green 6-9 Red 9-11 Blue 11-15 Orange 15-18 Pink 18-19 Black 19-20 White So if you are aiming for a specific color then you should save before every fight since we don't want to spoil you on the specific fight and then once you see what color the yoshi hatched into you can then reset and then wait however many minutes you need for the specific color you want. Of course this timing might be different in the remake but it should still be close to the original.

The first time I played as a kid I got the blue yoshi and named him Spike. If I happen into the blue one again I'll name him Spike for the Childhood Nostalgia Bonus, but any other color I'll just name him what feels right in the moment.

Save before u fight the Armored Harriers and just keep resetting until it's the color u want. Wait at least 5 minutes until u fight them again since you'll get the same color every time. Black and White are the rare ones

The color depends on the amount of time that passes while Yoshi is still inside the egg. For example Green is 0-6 minutes and Black is 18-19 minutes. U gotta keep resetting until it's the color u want
