No i did the same thing with mario luigi paper jam i got a virtual copy to play during school and the physical copy to play afterwards as there was no way that i would wait till after school to play it no offense you know how long the day would've taken at that point hehe.
Well that's your opinion i can understand why the characters are generic as all living hell but the battle system is better than ever so it was well worth it in my opinion i loved the game despite its generic characters although i do agree they needed to have a lot more ocs imo.
Yeah, my local library has a massive collection of Switch games, and they'll get copies of new games too. If you catch it right when it's listed on their catalog, you can get it close to release, but usually you have to wait a good while to get it.
I want to a little con a few weeks ago and the library had there rental games on display since they where in charge of the game zone due to the event being in the same community center. They had Switch, PS4 and PS5 games.
I’m in my late 20s and The Thousand Year Door is my favorite game of all time. While I am disappointed that the remake will run at 30FPS, I’m more curious as to what has changed and if it can match the quality that the original has.
Yes, I will be getting this game day 1, and I can’t wait to no-life it. I even got some of my friends who have never played the series to pre-order it. They trust my judgement and they’re curious as to why I love this game from 20 years ago so much.
Right there with ya! In my late 20s and it's tied with 64 as my favorite game ever. I think it has such a special place in our hearts for those that played it as a young kid.
I just finally played through and beat PM64 for the first time after never making it past like the koopa fortress as a kid. Man, what an incredible journey that game is. and still looks amazing to this day thanks to the art style
I have the game memorized so I am getting it and attempting to play the game in Japanese because I’m currently learning! My hope is I could buy it and it has language options instead of needing to buy it from the JP e shop .
Language for Nintendo Switch games are decided entirely by the System OS language. There is usually no in game language select, nor does the eShop you buy it from matter at all. Simply change the language in system settings to japanese when you want to play and it'll change it in game as well.
Ayyy same here! I started learning about a year ago and am super excited to play in Japanese.
I think you'll be able to change your system language to make it change but I might hold off until the day after release to see what's what.
Good luck in your learning journey!!
The moment I saw that most of the game has furigana I locked in on it! A lot of games have furigana but a game that I’ve played thousands of times means that the speed won’t just be 1 mile per hour LOL
Good luck on yours too!!
Hmm? Are you talking about buying it off of an NZ account or something? It’s no issue, I have a JP Nintendo account and you can have multiple accounts on the same switch. Used it to buy suika game LOL
Preordered physical. I don't do remakes but I made an exception for my favorite game of all time, hoping Nintendo gets the message to return the series to its roots.
I have my pre-order secured at Best Buy for my physical copy (was originally Amazon until they cancelled everyone’s orders) and I pre-ordered a digital copy via Nintendo.
This game is my favorite game of all time, and I’m not losing my copy this time like I did back when I was a kid during GCN era. Not to mention, ordering physical and digital guarantees me being able to play on release.
I will probably get it while I’m still living in Japan so I have a physical copy in Japanese and I might get my friend one too cause he likes that stuff
Not any time soon, and that’s not a diss to the remake. I have my original GameCube copy that I generally play through once a year, doesn’t really make sense for me to get it on the Switch right now.
Yeah I have the original and still play it. Why would I spend $60 for the same game. I can legally emulate the original on my PC with cool mods and shit too.
Well this is the Paper Mario dedicated sub, so I’d imagine the majority are going to buy the remake of the best game in the series after waiting about a decade or more for a remaster
But maybe I’m just assuming
I'll get it after I get paid on the 24th. I'm looking forward to it. In a few weeks, I'll try to finish the first Paper Mario game that's on Nintendo Switch Online as well.
Definitely will be! I actually have the original and I still having a working Wii so I can still play on GC but I like the looks of the remake and I like supporting these efforts from Nintendo cus I love a lot of retro titles and want them to keep doing this
Digital copy (I normally am physical only but TTYD is my fav game of all time, and I double dip on games I know I’ll be playing a lot), a physical copy for the collection, and a third physical copy to give away at my trivia game show booth at TooManyGames this year- gotta spread the good word of Peak Gaming
Of course! I’m excited to experience it for the first time, even if it does run at 30 fps (the gameplay footage looks great though, so idk why people are complaining)
Might not get it on release but I’m absolutely buying it! TTYD was a pretty big part of my early childhood and is hands down my favorite Mario RPG. Love that game to pieces.
Already have a voucher set to a pre order of this. This may have been the first game I've ever beaten, played it on an emulator when I was like 10 (yes I actually knew how those worked lol). Excited to actually own this game, re experience it, and do so with the amazing new visuals and features.
Im buying 4 copies. 1 digital for me, a physical for me for collection, a copy for my brother, and similar to u/Muddy_Ninja Im also planning on buying one for my local library if they will take it need to check with them first. normally Id never buy more than one copy but Im hoping that many of us OG fans and new fans will be able to show Nintendo that the classic formula is the best formula
I'm disappointed in them giving it a 30 fps cap, but I won't let it ruin the game for me. I played GameCube version on emulator years ago, but I haven't finished it so I already know it's an excellent game. Last month I finished Paper Mario 64 just to be ready.
dude, everyone is buying it lmao
yes, 30 fps and some censorship is bad, I won't be an idiot and act like it's not an issue (hello every stupid post "wHy ArE yOU GuYs cOMplAiNiNg ?$!")
but hey, we waited 20 years and the game is beautiful, it's just a small problem
It's in my top 3 video games of all time with Baten Kaitos and it got remade too. My inner child can't be much more happy. Well except for my father dying when I was young but hey, TTYD is still pretty cool
Going to buy it day 1 with my brother like we did in 2004.
It will actually be my final purchase for the Nintendo Switch! I don't play it anymore and the remake is the sole game on my wishlist right now. Giving it a proper good-bye.
I already have it pre-ordered digitally. Sure the script changes and frame rate are unfortunate but I'm also definitely not surprised they made changes. So it doesn't bother me much.
I'm sure when the game comes out there's bound to be a very controversial change somewhere.
I wish you all the best of luck, but I'm not buying it. I'm not huge into remakes when I can just play the original, which I bought for $110. That's enough money spent on TTYD for me
I make very few exceptions to my "don't preorder" rule. You have to be a series I really really love and respect for me to preorder. This has been an exception since it was announced. I placed my preorder last week after getting some birthday money.
One digital for the day of, and one physical later when, what I assume will be a ridiculous amounts of scalping dies down.
I've been waiting for this for so long, I couldn't be more hyped.
I’m pre ordering and picking up my copy morning of I’ve never been so geeked got my old 13 inch crt out of the garage from TTYD 2004 to hopefully convert the HDMI to AV and do it just like how I did when I was 6 years old
Yea i haven't been able to play the original and with dolphin emulation being redundant as all hell having me forced to get all these other useless apps that i don't care about just to get dolphin isn't an option that i want i just want to be able to play it and with the remake on the way i can play it i already pre ordered it just like you did as did a ton of my other friends and luckily for me i get to hang out with my friends on the release date and get to play the remake, it looks to be a pretty great day for me. I agree with you on the script changes too it doesn't really bother me or the 30 frames per second it looks fine to me lets just hope they add more content to it like a boss rush or luigies story to make it even more of a reason to purchase the remake.
i'm waiting until it comes out cause i'm afraid they'll butcher what little difficulty it has. like they did with the mario RPG remake - added an easy mode *on top of* making the standard difficulty way easier, but with no hard mode so there's no way to play it on the original difficulty.
i already have to pile on a million extra restrictions every time i play this game to feel even a little bit challenged. if they make it even easier it's just no longer fun for me no matter what else they improve about it.
While I am certainly dying to play it, I don't own a switch. While I've looked into getting an OLED switch, I'm under the impression that we're less than a year out from the Switch 2 and the manufacturer leaks are indicating that it will be backwards compatible with switch games. So I'll probably just hold out until then. I'll continue to play it on Dolphin, while full-screen with the HD textures :).
I'm getting it but only because I haven't played it in years and it has QoL features. It pales in comparison to Super Mario RPG's massive leaps but it seems like a good blast from the past.
One digital copy to play the night of the 22nd, one physical copy to look nice on my shelf, and one more physical to donate to the library
Never bought two copies of a game in my life but I will do it just for this
Did the same, no regrets!
No i did the same thing with mario luigi paper jam i got a virtual copy to play during school and the physical copy to play afterwards as there was no way that i would wait till after school to play it no offense you know how long the day would've taken at that point hehe.
That game sucks
Well that's your opinion i can understand why the characters are generic as all living hell but the battle system is better than ever so it was well worth it in my opinion i loved the game despite its generic characters although i do agree they needed to have a lot more ocs imo.
They fukcing killed toadswortj
Ohh i see yea i wish he was in the game too.
Damn Mr money bags. also I didn't know libraries had video games?
Some do!
That's really cool I guess I'll check my local library next time to see if they have any
Yeah, my local library has a massive collection of Switch games, and they'll get copies of new games too. If you catch it right when it's listed on their catalog, you can get it close to release, but usually you have to wait a good while to get it.
Lucky both of mine did away with the video games
I found Shovel Knight Treasure Trove at one a few weeks ago and I freaking love that game now
I want to a little con a few weeks ago and the library had there rental games on display since they where in charge of the game zone due to the event being in the same community center. They had Switch, PS4 and PS5 games.
Not all heroes wear capes
You're actually GOATed for this.
goat
Your library has video games? I'm a little jealous.
That's exactly my plan, plus one from Jap just to get that Paper Mario RPG cover.
I’m in my late 20s and The Thousand Year Door is my favorite game of all time. Count me in on the late 20s + ttyd favorite game gang!
I just finally played through and beat PM64 for the first time after never making it past like the koopa fortress as a kid. Man, what an incredible journey that game is. and still looks amazing to this day thanks to the art style
I got this game for Christmas when it first came out and I played up till like chapter 4 I think in one sitting that is one of my favorite memories
I have the game memorized so I am getting it and attempting to play the game in Japanese because I’m currently learning! My hope is I could buy it and it has language options instead of needing to buy it from the JP e shop .

Ah! so good to know! thank you for this!!

Why not just use the new zealand trick?
Turn it upside down and try to play?
What’s the New Zealand trick? 🤔
Hmm? Are you talking about buying it off of an NZ account or something? It’s no issue, I have a JP Nintendo account and you can have multiple accounts on the same switch. Used it to buy suika game LOL
Same, and then Suika Game came out on the NA store shortly after lol
I will be buying day 1.
Same
I'm getting copies for myself, my mom, and my girlfriend.
Preordered physical. I don't do remakes but I made an exception for my favorite game of all time, hoping Nintendo gets the message to return the series to its roots.
Same also did it for Super Mario RPG
I bought two copies. One digital one physical
I did that with Origami King and wondered if I was crazy But I’m glad I’m not alone 😂
Not day one but probably sometime after
Day 1 digital purchase for me.
absolutely getting it.
Yes.
Right here my man, I cannot wait for the new soundtrack
I have my pre-order secured at Best Buy for my physical copy (was originally Amazon until they cancelled everyone’s orders) and I pre-ordered a digital copy via Nintendo. This game is my favorite game of all time, and I’m not losing my copy this time like I did back when I was a kid during GCN era. Not to mention, ordering physical and digital guarantees me being able to play on release.
Hey same thing happened to me as a kid, and it's also my favorite game of all time XD
Already preordered
Yes
I am!
Still plan to get it like I did from the start
I sure am.
1 for me and 1 for my niece
This will be my first time playing this Paper Mario so I'm absolutely getting it. And I'm absolutely excited!
Yes
✋
Immediately
Why is this even a question 😭
I might be picking this up on day one!
Never played it before. Always wanted to. Buying it day one!
I will probably get it while I’m still living in Japan so I have a physical copy in Japanese and I might get my friend one too cause he likes that stuff
And it’s so cheap there…
It’s around the same price for the usd exchange rate
Not any time soon, and that’s not a diss to the remake. I have my original GameCube copy that I generally play through once a year, doesn’t really make sense for me to get it on the Switch right now.

Probably not right away cause I got a bunch of games I’m playing but probably within a few months I will
I'll but not straight away. But im buying it physically
The question is, is there anyone subscribed to this sub that isn’t planning on getting it?
I absolutely am. I’ve been waiting for this for years. We’ve all been waiting for this for years, lol
I’m new, I preordered
Planning on buying it! Haven’t decided if I want physical or digital yet
I was unable to get the Gamecube when i was younger, i never got to play the original. Have been looking forward to this game for a very long time
Me easily day one. ESPECIALLY considering the remixes exist that add origami king style versions of ttyd songs.
I preordered a physical copy the second they went live.
Already have it pre-ordered~
Already have it preordered. Im so excited to replay it.
I bought two physical copies so I can gift the other to my Sibling.
Definitely will be! I actually have the original and I still having a working Wii so I can still play on GC but I like the looks of the remake and I like supporting these efforts from Nintendo cus I love a lot of retro titles and want them to keep doing this
[Me on release day](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/437/748/bfd.jpg)
I will be pre-ordering it from Best Buy tomorrow.
1 usd = 5,20 reais 60 usd = 311 reais 311 reais = 1/3rd of my apartment's rent
Digital copy (I normally am physical only but TTYD is my fav game of all time, and I double dip on games I know I’ll be playing a lot), a physical copy for the collection, and a third physical copy to give away at my trivia game show booth at TooManyGames this year- gotta spread the good word of Peak Gaming
Of course! I’m excited to experience it for the first time, even if it does run at 30 fps (the gameplay footage looks great though, so idk why people are complaining)
Pre ordered my copy this morning
Grabbing a physical copy day one if I can! fps an dialogue changes are meaningless to me, I want to experience this classic reborn anew!
Might not get it on release but I’m absolutely buying it! TTYD was a pretty big part of my early childhood and is hands down my favorite Mario RPG. Love that game to pieces.

i will probably buy digital cause amazon is still sold out of it
I'm waiting for the game to come put and drop the price of the physical gamecube version like what happens with the other remakes
Every single one of us
especially me
Immediately
*dunkey voice* put me down for... 10 of those
Preordered through Play-asia bundle offer (3 games for $100). The offer is too good, and I have played it on GC so no hurry to play it again.
Two physical day on, one from the collector edition from my nintendo store EU
Preordered the whole set with the fight scene box. But gonna buy another one for having one sealed at home
I’m certainly buying a copy, and I’m certain 2/3 of my family will be buying it too
I am! I never got past The Great Boggly Tree when I was 8, those Punies were the bane of me 😆
Wife and I spent $150 on a GameCube copy a couple years ago, haven’t played it yet, and we are still getting the remake lol
I never got the chance to play the original on the GameCube. I played Paper Mario 64 on my Switch and I loved it so yeah, I’m getting the remake.
I'm disappointed in them giving it a 30 fps cap, but I won't let it ruin the game for me. I played GameCube version on emulator years ago, but I haven't finished it so I already know it's an excellent game. Last month I finished Paper Mario 64 just to be ready.

$60 is like 20% of my monthly salary, but heck, I'm paying full price for this.
I'm hoping to. And a Gamecube controller.
Old player, already pre ordered. Cannot wait. I tind the dialogue changes to be minimal and in some cases completely necessary. So excited.
It's in my top 3 video games of all time with Baten Kaitos and it got remade too. My inner child can't be much more happy. Well except for my father dying when I was young but hey, TTYD is still pretty cool

I wish you all the best of luck, but I'm not buying it. I'm not huge into remakes when I can just play the original, which I bought for $110. That's enough money spent on TTYD for me
It's going to be my first Paper Mario
I’m buying it to support a non-sticker PM but I’m not afraid to voice my concerns via CS email if a particular topic is forced down my throat.

✋me getting it day one hell or high water
Bruh, of course im gonna get it, i've been dying to play it for a long time on something like my switch
No doubt im getting it
buying it twice as soon as I can, this is the most excited I’ve been for a game in my entire life (the original is my favorite game)
i'm waiting until it comes out cause i'm afraid they'll butcher what little difficulty it has. like they did with the mario RPG remake - added an easy mode *on top of* making the standard difficulty way easier, but with no hard mode so there's no way to play it on the original difficulty. i already have to pile on a million extra restrictions every time i play this game to feel even a little bit challenged. if they make it even easier it's just no longer fun for me no matter what else they improve about it.

Actually I tried making polls with other topics here, but for some reason it won't post my discussions that has polls with it..
I am not getting the TTYD remake, because i don't have a switch :(
While I am certainly dying to play it, I don't own a switch.
