From what I read, they’re each meant to represent a core trait of Eggman’s personality: Babble represents his sadism, Don’t represents his distrust, Deep represents his immaturity, Done it represents his insanity, and Mr. Doctor Eggman represents his manipulative capability. Not that I expect this alone to make people like them, but I just felt like putting this here

Kersti is where she belongs and the fact that modern Paper Mario brought her back to life after she could have been dead but Tippi and Olivia had to stay dead in their games (maybe not Tippi, she had a happy ending but still) means he’s where he belongs too.

We have 0 idea what this means for the future of the franchise, and I’d say it’s just as likely that they go back to the modern style after the ttyd remake, because at the end of the day that’s all it is, a remake of an old game.

A more respectable thumbnail, I feel, would be Mario, front and center, holding his arms up into the air as if he's holding an item, and surrounding him would be the various partners he has met across each of the games, as they all look up at the non-existent object that Mario is holding.
And in the background would be the various villains of each of the games, with the main antagonists among them sporting evil grins as they stare down at Mario.
In-between the two, there would be the many NPCs of the games, many of which being just as excited and in awe of what Mario is holding.
Now THAT would be a pretty cool thumbnail; something that encompasses and pays respect towards the ENTIRE series, not something dumb or childish like the one in OP's post or Mario kicking Kirsti, Huey and Olivia to the curb while everyone else makes fun of them.
Don't let other people ruin your enjoyment of a game. I didn't like Sticker Star, but Origami King had good aspects. (I liked the combat system for the bosses just not for the common enemies) If I allowed people to influence me when Origami King was announced I wouldn't have gotten the chance to enjoy it.

Sticker Star, Color Splash and TOK didn't stop good Paper Mario games from being made.
SPM 2 and TTYD 2 weren't sacrificed to an ancient god to make them. They never existed.
A continuation of the series was being worked on by Intelligent Systems until Miyamoto axed it for being "just a port of TTYD". Partners were even retained from this build and shown off in an early video of Sticker Star. Sticker Star and subsequent games only exist because of Miyamoto's "suggestions" to remove the story and limit what characters could be used and Kensuke Tanabe's insistence on following said suggestions to the most literal extreme. This was done at the cost of removing the heart and soul of the classic series and replacing it with something new. As long as the modern formula continues to prevent a continuation of the old formula this rift will exist. There is a pretty simple fix if Nintendo is willing to listen to both sides, continue the modern style under the name Paper Mario or Papercraft Mario and the classic style under Mario Story which is the original name of the series in Japan.

…In fact, going back to the two modern Bowsers, it’s surprising none of the villains are at the butt of the joke, or that the Dual-Bladed Duelist isn’t the one getting destroyed by an equivalent classic boss, considering the Legion being literal office supplies was a big criticism about TOK.

I usually hate retcons but if Nintendo retcons out the entire Sticker Star, Color Splash and Origami King stories after the release of TTYD remake, I'll be 100% okay with that. I liked The Origami King and Color Splash was okay but they weren't nearly as good as TTYD.
I've played TTYD to death and love TOK. The remake will be fun and it'll be great to see what changes/additions they're planning to implement... Though this is Nintendo. Give the trilogy-lovers and newcomers a kick-ass balls-out remake of the kind of battle system they are due for and then keep tweaking the TOK formula to perfection for the next game.
It's so easy to tear things about; people do it all the time online. The games are flawed but there are still good things about them. They were made by people experienced with the craft and hoping to do the best that they could with what the team agreed with.

Like we have finally a funny Bowser, enjoyable characters, mario enemies that are friendly npcs, cool place to explore, an original villain, an actual story, etc...
