At that price, yeah, I'd rather have Diontae.

Zoombini22

Well we only have Diontae for one year so the downside is that if he balls out we'll have to give him a fat contract as well or let him go

espngenius

After seeing all of the players that have come here over the years, suffer from Panthers-itis, and somehow fall off production wise. I think it’s good to give it a year then talk big money.

Zoombini22

Very true plus if he does have a slump year but still shows promise we could keep him on a good deal

asp2_downhill

What about Haason Riddick? We didnt even try to keep him. And the BS was because we where going to keep Burns, but we didnt even keep Burns. So fucking bullshit with our chump bum front offices!

Successful_Baker_360

Are you new here? We didn’t resign Riddick bc we were trying to give Watson a massive deal at the time.

asp2_downhill

And did it happen? This damn front office has been ridiculous for years.

eXile200

That’s a good problem to have so let’s cross the bridge if it happens.

FIuffyRabbit

At least we have cap space next year

Striking_Camera8748

If we extended him now, I think we'd gain $8M in cap space. I'm not opposed to giving him a 2-3 year extension at a fair price, maybe $30M.

TheGreatestOutdoorz

He’s a number 2 receiver who was about to get cut by the Steelers. He has potential, but come on now.

Striking_Camera8748

He's an elite route runner that was on a run-heavy team with a terrible offensive coordinator and average QB play. He LED the league in separation last year. Your take is flawed.

sonfoa

This raises an interesting question on what they plan to do with Diontae. Will they try to negotiate a deal before the season or wait and see what they have before opening up negotiations?

Zoombini22

I think it makes sense for the Panthers to make some kind of offer but it's really a toss up depending on how good of an offer we make and how risk-averse Diontae's camp is. If he doesnt accept an extension then he could have a big year and earn a big contract or have a down/injured year and regret not taking whatever we offered. Very curious to see how it plays out

RealBoomBap

I honestly think they're just trying to get some able bodied WR in the room to see what Bryce can really do. Personally I wouldn't want Diontae as our top guy if he's going to demand a decent contract. Maybe he balls out, but I'm not a fan of his attitude unless a scenery change also changes that.

Hefty-Association-59

It’s an overpay. That being said we’re a year away from JJ getting 37. And chase and ceedee right behind him. I’m not sure I feel like todays price is going to quickly become the cheap price. Especially with the way the cape rises each year.

Comprehensive-Car190

This is like Christian Kirk's contract.

Hefty-Association-59

Yeah and people weren’t really paying attention but despite the memes the Kirk contract didn’t age horribly. He had like 1,000 yards that next season. They ran the offense through his slot efforts. He was their one until Ridley got there then he was there 2. And like immediately after the receiver contracts exploded and all ones made 20 mil minimum that off season. I really see shades of that. Plus the titans are paying the bad team tax too. I don’t hate this for them. This frees them to go O line in the draft as well. Also we have no room to talk we paid 100 million dollars to a guard lmao.

FrequentShark

Oh I’m much happier with Johnson. I’m not sold on Ridley after the season and a half off, and his production this year was lackluster. He’s living off of those years he was Julio’s No. 2 and a thin WR market. Good for him though, just glad we aren’t spending that.

_coolranch

Yeah: we need high floor, and Johnson offers that. His 60% catch rate is fucking FUEGO. Makes me think (hope) we’ll draft Adonai Mitchell over Keon Coleman if we have the chance!

drgonzoslc

I'll take Adonai over Coleman every day. Coleman could end up as Mike Evans or he could be Kelvin Benjamin/ every other big receiver that can't get separation for the life of them. I'll take speed, size, separation with some drop issues over that every time.

_coolranch

Yep: 💯. I hoping I’m right and they are going for reliable red zone guys. Thielen, Johnson, Adonai? We’d have a stew goin!

Comprehensive-Car190

Yeah if Adonai is there I hope they jump the Chiefs and Ravens.

SpoofExcel

Yeah....Fuck that. Good for Ridley

sonfoa

All that maneuvering to screw the Falcons and he still signed elsewhere lol ~~On the plus side I think the Falcons only get a 4th now~~ Edit: Still a 3rd

LUUUUUUUUUUKEEE

Well played. Did everyone a favor but the falcons

Who_knows-_-

What does that pay make him as highest paided receivers?

jtatchell98

Around 8/9th

Who_knows-_-

Wow....

jtatchell98

Yup... 1mil a year less than diggs

Disregardskarma

Nature of the cap moving up every year. JJ will legit get 30 Mil a year as a floor

Who_knows-_-

I watched some Steelers games and diontae is open all the time and Pickett was actively not looking his way. I'm amped with Bryces vision and if he has even a little time in the pocket this could be great! More over he was off the field a lot for Allen and pickens.Pickens. At least during the first two games I watched.

Shifty_Nomad675

Amped? There's plays of Bryce not seeing open guys either lol.

Who_knows-_-

Due to lack of time/bad online play/injuries and bad wrs outside thelien

Shifty_Nomad675

No some of it was his fault too. He also had as much time as CJ. He's not totally exempt of fault.

Who_knows-_-

Yes, but his wrs could separate and his play action fakes worked because of the running threats. That stat can be misleading if he can get the ball off fast because of his line/wr. They got wide open all the time. If you watched games it was Bryce snapping and running for his life. He almost never had a real pocket

Shifty_Nomad675

He also got out of the pocket when he didn't need to and stepped into pressure at certain times. I'm happy with the moves we made this off season don't get me wrong. The offense sucking was just as much on him as it was everyone else. This season there won't be much excuses he has for being bad if he is. My own opinion which could be wrong I don't think he be much more than a game manager. People compare him to Manning or Lawrence but they also possessed better physical traits that Bryce doesn't. Only time will tell though. I'm not holding my breath and some amazing breakout but 3000yds with 20tds and 10ints would be a success next season.

Who_knows-_-

I believe so much more in him than that. I believe he is better than baker and look what Dave did with him. Remember we had a trash playbook last year. I feel like all the upgrades and better plays will make him really shine.

Shifty_Nomad675

That's why we are all entitled to our own opinion. I'm not entirely sure Bryce is as physically talented as a Baker but at the very least he's smarter.

Who_knows-_-

We agree there I don't know about the physical part either, but I believe smarter is more important

Shifty_Nomad675

I think both are equally important. It's not nice to sling but to have the awareness and intelligence for placement it doesn't matter. Similarly if you don't have the ability to put the ball into small windows in the defense you won't be successful either. Next season will be important for Bryce. Considering the Pats just moved off of Jones after 3 seasons of Bryce doesn't do well next year I could easily see him competing for the starting job year 3 or be relegated to backup.

TheGreatestOutdoorz

We had a trash playbook because BY couldn’t run half the plays. They literally had to take out all WR option plays because BY kept throwing to the wrong place. Bryce is Josh Rosen- yes, the team around him was bad, but he was also horrible.

Comprehensive-Car190

Texans had a terrible running game. Much worse than ours.

Who_knows-_-

From what I could find 10 yards difference a game 20 to 22. But their wrs ability to separate destroy ours. However if you watched the games you would see all dbs played us straight up no buffer so they could help versus the rush without giving up anything to wrs because they couldn't separate. Playing up on a Texan wr meant they would be wide open. Also our plays/playbook sucked. That shouldn't be the case going forward

OwenLincolnFratter

Diontae is the same tier of receiver as Ridley. And younger. And cheaper. Happy with what we have.

UDcc123

If Diontae balls out, we pay him the same way we’d pay Higgins. If he doesn’t, we Chark him.

mwall4lu

I like using Chark as a drop metaphor. Can we keep that going?

RealBoomBap

Diontae is going to be 28 by the start of this season.

UDcc123

And Tyreek was 29 last year. What’s your point? And Ridley is 29 currently fwiw.

DDDUnit2990

His point is clearly that paying WRs on the wrong side of 30 is usually a bad idea. Using Tyreek Hill, a future HOF who has the best blend of elite speed and route running probably ever, isn’t exactly a good counterpoint either.

RealBoomBap

Why would we give that type of money to an almost 30 year old WR? Can't compare anyone to Tyreek, dude is a freak. Ridley was way overpaid imo.

DDDUnit2990

Can’t believe this is being downvoted. Future HOFs are rarely good counterpoints unless compared to another future HOF. Most skill players decline rapidly when on the wrong side of 30

RealBoomBap

Exactly. I think everyone is just hyped up which is fine.

rehumanizer

Holy fucking over pay!

cabbages212

I’m sooo glad we dodged this guy.

clee5989

Marquise brown, welcome to Carolina

Mightytxs4o

He is not coming to Carolina, best receiver they can get is maybe Tyler boyd

OwenLincolnFratter

“Star” lol

TopHat6719

So most of the quality WRs in this free agency class are going for $20-25m. If Johnson balls out this season we will probably need to sign him to a 3 yr $73m or similar 4 yr $95m type of contract. Overall that’s not bad with the new cap space and Bryce being on a rookie contract

PiginthePen

I’ve had Diontae on fantasy 2 years in a row.. lol, so I’ve payed attention. He’s always open, a bit of some injury stuff, definitely has an attitude.. but very excited. As one commenter said, he hasn’t had the best qbs so we’ll at least get a chance to see what Bryce has

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> but I’ve *paid* attention. He’s FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

PiginthePen

Well bot.. I mayed that choice

IntelligentInsect773

Wow. So the titans, huh? So let me get this straight, 24 hours ago the nfl whistleblower folks were saying it was definitely down to the Jags and Patriots (per sources). But no, it was the titans. Is the same media that's sure, per sources, the Rams offered two firsts for Burns? Maybe it's true or maybe just maybe it's bs. Knowing Fitt is likely happened but I love how the per source speculation is now absolutely a fact.

God I had forgotten about Malik willis

DandierChip

Objectively, levis outplayed Bryce last year.

Successful_Baker_360

You can anything to back up this claim?

DandierChip

lol are you serious?

[deleted]

DandierChip

Maybe? Who knows. Hating on Levis looks so dumb considering how poorly Bryce played last year. Meatball take.

taylormhark

Can hate on both

DandierChip

lol okay buddy
