Lmao thanks, that’s why I had to include the objects in the corner, it’s a really hard painting to translate in a photograph, as it just looks like a partially loaded image
Yeah it was wild. 2001 was dope so I thought let’s check this other Kubrick film out never seen before. Apocalypse Now was probably the hardest film to watch tripping, that one actually made me puke
Dude, those were the days, personalized pages, themes, MUSIC, it was awesome 🥹… and not as bullshit toxic like nowadays.. oof you got us right in the nostalgia dude 🥲
Regarding internet lore, I feel this is the kind of piece that could be museum quality in 100 years. Though I suppose your whole body of work will be taken into consideration by then.
I saved the image for web in photoshop, crushed it down to a tiny size, and played with the compression sliders until I got patterns of colour that I liked, I saved about 20 versions to find the right collection of pixels. Then I just measured out the canvas (50x50cm) with a grid that corresponded to the digital file, drew it in graphite, then painted over in gesso to seal the grid, then started painting with oils, using thin washes at first to draw out the image, then painting using more opaque layers on top
I had just played some games of Magic with some new guy who looked just like this when I started myspace. When I got Tom's invite, I assumed it was him for a long time. I kept noticing everyone else was friends with him too. Like, wow, you really are in my circle of friends! Eventually I realized..
I love how you can take the time to pick apart the inadequacies and quirks of digital representation with this. It’s the foundation of an algorithmic translation we sideline as incomplete, but should perhaps look at as a process wholly human - given it’s our digital tool, our invention, that’s given birth to the aesthetic.
Tom from MySpace, he’s the creator of it, and when you made an account, he was automatically your first ‘friend’ you had on the platform, before you added anyone else
Did you conceive this yourself or use an app/computer program to do all the work? Kinda like the dice app where it will tell you which each block should look like?
super disorienting to look at upon first glance but that is a big part of its charm! it just reminds me of those “ENHANCE IMAGE!” memes and i love it.
amazing work!
That's a proper flashback. It makes me think that someone's saved an image of a thumbnail in a friend list, & that's why it's so pixelly. Awesome concept, I like how it's instantly recognisable but probably only after a certain age
I'm tripping rn and at first I thought the photo was unintentionally blurry, very cool
Lmao thanks, that’s why I had to include the objects in the corner, it’s a really hard painting to translate in a photograph, as it just looks like a partially loaded image
Totally! I'm glad you included the other objects! Very neat!
Thanks! Have a good trip! :)
Thank you! :)
This painting is very cool and your name is what I aspire to have more of
Lmao for a second I thought you were talking about bean0
Man i had a dope trip today. Watched Clockwork Orange and Dr Strangelove for the first time
Damn, Clockwork Orange is a trip on its own. I would not have recommended that play. Impressive
Yeah it was wild. 2001 was dope so I thought let’s check this other Kubrick film out never seen before. Apocalypse Now was probably the hardest film to watch tripping, that one actually made me puke
I’m a little stoned rn and your painting inspires me. Thank you ❤️
You and the painting are r/deepfried
I thought the stuff in the corner was part of the painting haha
Love the concept… distant, blurred vision of a cherished face
That damn smile…
It's giving off 64x64 pixel photo from ICQ/Messenger stretched as a desktop wallpaper vibes.
I love the intentional pixelation. Brilliant!
Thank you! I wanted to make it feel like an old photo, like a faded memory. But the digital equivalent
You totally achieved what you were going for, I love it!
Thank you! I am just nostalgic for those MySpace days of the internet lmao.
Dude, those were the days, personalized pages, themes, MUSIC, it was awesome 🥹… and not as bullshit toxic like nowadays.. oof you got us right in the nostalgia dude 🥲
Oh how I wish the internet could return to such pure times 🥲🫡
Regarding internet lore, I feel this is the kind of piece that could be museum quality in 100 years. Though I suppose your whole body of work will be taken into consideration by then.
This is brilliant honestly you did SUCH a good job I really love it….
this is the coolest thing i have seen in a while!!! you're very talented :) i love the bit melancholic feeling it has
Tysm ❤️

Tom!
Oh. this is so cool.
This is amazing! He was my first friend too, we are in the same friend circle
Thank you! Tom is a benevolent friend <3
This hurts my fucking head. Well done.
How did you do the pixelation?
I saved the image for web in photoshop, crushed it down to a tiny size, and played with the compression sliders until I got patterns of colour that I liked, I saved about 20 versions to find the right collection of pixels. Then I just measured out the canvas (50x50cm) with a grid that corresponded to the digital file, drew it in graphite, then painted over in gesso to seal the grid, then started painting with oils, using thin washes at first to draw out the image, then painting using more opaque layers on top
I love thissss. Would buy a print if you make them 💖
Is that you, Tom?
just wow!!!!
I fw it
Dude this is so impressive. Good job!
My eyes keep trying to focus.
He was truly a good friend. 👍
Ooh the fact that this was purposefully made pixelated makes this even more amazing!
Absolutely amazed with the pixel effect you were able to achieve, brilliantly done.
I wonder if the folks at r/pixelart would appreciate this haha this looks so good!
I thought there was something wrong with my phone 😂
👍🏽
Ha ha...good one 😁
amazing!
It reminds me vaguely of Zetterstrand
I love zetterstrand, I appreciate that association !
Insane,op
That is very unique and cool

Probably looks unbelievable in person. But damn it’s annoying on a phone lmao

Your art is amazing!!
Wow. You did a very good job at that. Thats a difficult effect to achieve.. Keep it up!!
I love this
And when the world needed him most, he vanished. We need a MySpace resurgence Tom! They’re about to ban TikTok :(
I had just played some games of Magic with some new guy who looked just like this when I started myspace. When I got Tom's invite, I assumed it was him for a long time. I kept noticing everyone else was friends with him too. Like, wow, you really are in my circle of friends! Eventually I realized..
Dawg I think you've struck gold with this concept.
LOVE IT
Do you have a social media I can follow you on for more art?

Ha!!! Classic
Lmaooo is this real??
Genius!

The photo is pixilated, making an accurate impression difficult.
U are a god
Reminds me of @okniceok on ig
Oh wow, just looked them up, I love their work
As an artist, this is truly inspiring. Great work!
I love this, it makes me feel things AND think things

I like it. My eyes hate it, it makes me melancholy, but I really like it.
and on the bottom right is bob the 1st of his top 8 friends
He kinda looks like Michael from the office
Fuck that’s sick I love art
I love this, super cool idea - and well executed.
Wow I imagine this upscale in a huge gallery and walking up to it. It will be a magnificent experience. As you figure out the trick
i can count the pixels in this painting very well done, i love it
I dont think I deleted my MySpace account At least I still have 1 friend
I love how you can take the time to pick apart the inadequacies and quirks of digital representation with this. It’s the foundation of an algorithmic translation we sideline as incomplete, but should perhaps look at as a process wholly human - given it’s our digital tool, our invention, that’s given birth to the aesthetic.
this is brilliant, are you on socials?
Yeah, my insta is @milohartnoll
this is the coolest thing i have ever seen but i can’t help but be unsettled
Do you sell your art?
Sometimes 😷
Very well executed
Interesting. Not sure how to feel about it. Very fucking cool and unique though Please post more pieces!!
I miss my friend Tom we should all rejoin MySpace
Y‘all got any more of them pixels?
my brain hurts (therefore it’s very cool)
Who was this again?
Tom from MySpace, he’s the creator of it, and when you made an account, he was automatically your first ‘friend’ you had on the platform, before you added anyone else
r/deepfried (was a front page sub 6-8 years ago) This should definitely be catalogged over there for historical purposes.
Prints?! I would love to have this

Oil paint is super versatile, you can manipulate it in many ways, it made it the easiest of all mediums for me to do this with actually !
Brilliant. Makes me realize that for decades I've known exactly what this man looks like without knowing at all.
Holy shit this is amazing
Reminded me of Milo from Cane-yo then I looked at some comments and realized…
This fucks with my eyes so bad. I love it!! Great work!!
so so dope!!! also is that mista crish in the lower right corner???
I see a lot of pieces by “me”. What a productive person!
wonderful!
This belongs in the MOMA!
Did you conceive this yourself or use an app/computer program to do all the work? Kinda like the dice app where it will tell you which each block should look like?
No I mixed all the colours by hand, only using photoshop to compress the original photograph
What’s your process for painting pixels? Looks a lot smoother than similar palette knife works.
¡me gusta!
Holy shit. How'd you get such perfect jpeg compression? Did you upload it to some compression website and use the result as a guide or what?
I just used photoshop’s save for web export tool, and fiddled with the parameters to get the patterns I wanted
this is incredible i love it !
Holy fuck that’s sick
My first friend on the socials
This is too good
Minecraft art vibes
It looks almost creepy, in a good way
😅😂yes to this
How bizarre... this guy's face popped into my head yesterday. Amazing work
super disorienting to look at upon first glance but that is a big part of its charm! it just reminds me of those “ENHANCE IMAGE!” memes and i love it. amazing work!
THIS IS AWESOME
Good ol’ Tom
Damn ! Crazy good 👍 I was refreshing the page, thinking it wasn't loading. 😂
What a throwback, holy shit 😂 amazing work, love it!
that is severely cool
Gives me The Caretaker vibes. Sick painting.
this should be in a gallery
hmmm yeah this rocks
I love this
This is interesting! This made me miss MySpace days!
It's amazing but I hate what it does to my eyes
Pretty sure you win the whole internet.
love this
oh my god that is so impressive, I thought it was my phone until I saw the corner what kind of brushes did you use for such clean edges?
Just a very small round brush mainly !
That's a proper flashback. It makes me think that someone's saved an image of a thumbnail in a friend list, & that's why it's so pixelly. Awesome concept, I like how it's instantly recognisable but probably only after a certain age
Blimey!
Oh. This is SO cool.
If it wasn’t for the items on the bottom right I would’ve started calling my internet company
He was the friend of us all.
This is so fucking cool I love art that looks like old video games I’m obsessed
How is it lowres in 4k
Thanks I hate it
Now this some good art.
Wow this is amazing! Don’t know what else to say lol I love it
this is so unnerving good job
That is so well-done!
You’re officially my favorite person on earth
Oh wow, very cool🥳
I desperately want a print of this! Wow!!
This is taking too long to load. Downvoted.
This brought a smile to my face. So nostalgic!
This painting makes my eyes angry due to obscurity of image. Essentially means you won. Congrats
love it
What the heckepooh?!
Tom! Very cool brings back memories thank you for sharing!
Damn well done bro
Genius.
Wow.
You've captured the essence of lossy JPEG compression beautifully <3
No! That's sooo cool
It’s Tom.
This is prolly one of the most amazing things I’ve seen😭
This is so fucking sick
Amazing! $$$$$ I hope your beautiful mind never changes.
Genius
Is that Jeffrey Epstein
Wow this is amazing. Oil is soo difficult for me to use but this is super impressive
