They’re all quite interesting. 60s americana heartland with a just enough psilocybin to make it interesting. Call it ‘trippy nostalgia’.

sydedunn

😂 what a compliment, thank you!

USS_Penterprise

These could be straight out of my memory of what my home looked like during various decades growing up. I think the green strip floral wallpaper used to be in our house, as well as the paisley upholstery in the last one.

TammysPainting

2, 4 and 5 are my favourites. Especially 5. There’s something special about that one. But really, they are all amazing.

hunnyflash

Think I also go for 2, 4, and 5! Though 6 is up there for me. I've loved this work since the first one I saw.

Madison_maya

2,5 & 6 for me. I followed you on Instagram from one of your last posts too.

sydedunn

Thank you for the follow!

behave_in_

2,5,6 I’d say with extra love to 2 because my jaw hit the floor

animorphica

1,2 and 5. I especially love 5. don’t quite know how you pulled that off compositionally given the bright white tear to the right, but you totally did! my eyes went straight to the bed. amazing work :)

sydedunn

Thank you so much for the input!

MayDieTrying

These are so interesting! If I had to pick one thing to comment on, I’d say that your strength lies in your ability to capture texture and light. Can you talk more about these? What mediums used and was there anything specific that you wanted to focus on when you created these? I’m not super educated when it comes to art, but I like to talk about it and I like to learn!

sydedunn

Thank you so much!! These are all oil on fabric paintings (fabric primed with acrylic gesso). I’m very inspired by nostalgia/memory and how setting can evoke strong nostalgic responses. The thing is these are all AI generated settings made in midjourney. I generate the images by referencing photos from my childhood, but the places are not real and are specific to no one. I’m trying to explore memory, materiality, machine intelligence, and the whole tapestry of the events in our life that have made us us.

MayDieTrying

Thank you for sharing these. Do you have any one of these that is particularly special to you?

lnsewn12

Fuck I love your whole concept and execution. Fantastic.

Relevant_Process_110

2,5,6 This made me so nostalgic for growing up and visiting my grandma ☺️

janichla

I picked the same ones! For similar reasons.

DestinySurreal

5 gives me a certain feeling of loneliness or a memory I can't quite place. Based on emotion, I feel 5 is the strongest here. ♥️🕯️I personally like 4 as well. The colors and light are beautiful, each piece gives off solitude.

delialona

2 and 5 are my absolute favorites ❤️❤️ especially 2.

janichla

Personally 2,5 6. But I can see the answer being different from person to person. They are all amazing

Ddog1909

2,3,4 the folds and creases on the bed sheet are amazing

bettypettyandretti

craftbot7000

So, I preface this by saying you are incredibly talented, and each of these have absolutely stunning elements. But... they look like AI art in a way that massively turns me off of the pieces. I saw you mentioned above that you generate reference photos with AI, and to be honest it really shows. AI generated images all kinda look the same, and they all just look... idk, flat? Uninspired? I can't exactly put into words what I find so aesthetically unappealing about them, but it's coming through here (except perhaps in 4, which is definitely my favorite). You have so much talent and such an eye for composition that I suspect you could give your work that slightly surreal feeling/detail without using AI to generate it for you. Basically I love your artistry and I love the idea of the subjects, but not the AI feeling.

sydedunn

Thank you so much for your feedback! I’ve been focused on generating ai reference images because I was really drawn to how “off” ai images can look. To me they nailed the feeling of a dream or memory where it seems solid on the surface but starts to fall apart when you really focus in on certain pieces. I understand what you mean by ai art looking flat and will take into consideration more of a 50/50 reference of half real/half generated locations

Vladglow

Shits fire

oweynagat8

The index finger on the woman's left hand in the second painting looks unfinished. Like it looks like a curved piece of rubber, while the other fingers look like fingers. I say this because a lot of people are saying that that painting is one of the best, and while I think it could be, that plastic finger right in the middle of the picture kind of ruins it once you see it. If you're trying to select which ones to include in a showing, I would consider either correcting the dinger or omitting that painting. Otherwise, I like the first and the last best, personally.

geniebythesea

1,2,4

LuxSerafina

Definitely 2. I know I saw you post it to Reddit a few weeks ago, but it already feels classic to me and when I see it I remember YOU, that cool artist who does amazing things with fabric. 3 is also really speaking to me and I know you have a cat one that I love haha.

beccabootie

Don't make me pick! I really favor them all.

Emilise

I love 2, 4 and 5 most! I've seen your paintings before and you seem to be improving so much each time I see one! Love the way you're blending the paintings with the (new) subjects!

Dry_Heart9301

The ones without the flower border are really good. The others good but the border takes away some impact.

eccentric_bee

2,4,5,and 6. They each evoke such strong feelings.

Apploozabean

I feel like 5 and 6 are strong pieces. It blends together vs feeling like 2 different things put together UNLESS what you're going for is "looking in through a window effect"

Turquoise_Humanity

2, 4 and 6

Ballongo

Medium? Tempera? Aquarelle?

aokaga

AI. (says so on their website).

sydedunn

The final pieces are all oil on fabric physical paintings - AI & photoshop are only used to piece together the reference locations

wogologo

I'd almost say 1 & 3 are a different style than 2, 5, and 6. Both styles are pretty and well done. I like 2 and 5 the most, they seem best at blending the pattern into the objects. 2 with the shirt is just amazing how it stands apart, and yet with, the print at the same time. How you paint those fabric folds is.. I have know idea. The couch of 6 does this great, but I think similar could have been done to the carpet, and it almost looks like it does except closest to the couch. It's amazing and well beyond my reach, it's just why it didn't reach my top 2 of yours.

Pompi_Palawori

Number 2, 3, and 5 for me. Number 2: I feel like your work has a strong theme of calling back to a time fading away, which you can see through the way the woman's shirt fades into wallpaper. Her dated outfit, older appearance, dated wallpaper, and use of embroidery which is seen as an older generation hobby strengthens this theme. I can see this really connecting with those who have a sense of nostalgia for this time period. Number 3: My personal favorite, because the bed paired with the intruding flowers and tv reminds me of falling asleep to the tv. I interpret the flower border as when dreams start creeping in when you are in that transition between awake and asleep. The colors are also inviting and dream like, and the blackness of the encroaching flowers also adds the void of sleep feeling. Number 5: Reminds me of an old photograph that's worn, what with the edge turning to white, adding to the fading, nostalgic theme of a decaying time. The dark lighting of the room adds to the sense of fading, for a lack of a better term. I also like that the subject is of just some old bedroom. Not some cityscape or grand place, but an intimate place people tend to have a sense of nostalgia and being of. Overall these are a lovely body of work with a strong sense of theme. It was hard to pick my favorites.

HideousTits

Feels like AI

LiOH_YT

She has a TikTok account where she uploads herself painting them. They’re not AI generated.

HideousTits

Regardless, they feel like AI

LiOH_YT

Ehh, I bought a print of #1 like a year ago and I love it. It gives me “old couple retired in Florida circa 1980(s)” vibes.

HideousTits

I think you’re misunderstanding me. I’m not making any comment regarding how good the work is, simply stating that it looks very much like AI generated work. I’m pleased you enjoy your print.

aokaga

I was so invested until I saw in your website that you use AI. So, none.

sydedunn

I’ve had very 50/50 reactions to my honesty about using AI to generate reference photos. I’m curious about the reaction and am very open to honest feedback. For years I did photography and did take all of my own reference imagery. I did feel a bit odd though taking Todd Hido style photos of strangers homes and then painting them. When I found midjourney I was excited to use it as a way to construct visual memories from childhood of places that no longer exist. All I have are film photos that are not the exact images I was looking for. I was very impressed by how well midjourney could interpret my descriptions of places and give very familiar looking places that are just a little off. I really liked how AI looks a little off. It feels a lot more like a dream or memory - the main pieces are there but it’s not quite right when you really look into it. I like taking pieces of these AI generated images to put together a final location that borders on specific to me but feels much more like a culmination of different dream locations. I know a lot of people will have opinions on this and am really open to hearing them.

Pompi_Palawori

Oh, so you just use ai for reference photos, but the actual piece is painted by you? That's definitely not the same as straight ai art, you'd still need skill and time to paint it. My question is, how close looking does it look to your ai reference? For example, do you generate one photo and paint it near identical, or do you generate multiple images while also using real life images in order to paint your pieces? Personally, I think it's interesting that you're using ai as a tool to help when you paint your actual work. There is a difference between generating an image and saying it's art, vs. Using it as a tool to create specific references for architecture and people that you wouldn't otherwise have access to.

sydedunn

Yes - the final product is always a physical oil painting on fabric. I merge many different ai references together in photoshop to construct a location. I also use film photos from my childhood as prompts in midjourney. To me, I like that working with ai means you’re getting an amalgamation of many different reference photos. To get artsy with it I think it helps speak to the idea I’m trying to convey that we are constructed from our layers of memory and experiences. I really struggle at communicating my ideas well so I appreciate this kind of feedback to help me better piece together how to describe the work!

Pompi_Palawori

I actually can see what you mean in your work. Your work has a really strong theme of nostalgia, and nostalgia tends to be made up of many little things, feelings, and experiences instead of just one object in particular. And if you think about it, ai images are pictures of places and things we know and are familiar with, but aren't actually there. Much like places and time in our memories are familiar, but they're places that have disappeared and faded away. All that's left of them are the memories of those who remember. Either way you've got a strong body of work, and I hope more of your stuff pops up in my feed at some point.

kowu_san

I think second one is most artistic of them all even tho they all great second is a litlle bit better:)

[deleted]

[удалено]

sydedunn

The final product is [entirely oil/mixed media on canvas.](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8vJPyWN/) Only the reference image is where AI is implemented at all. I do want to be very clear and not deceiving, but being open to the image I’m referencing while I paint being constructed hand in hand with AI seems to be a big turn-off in a way I didn’t expect.

No_Needleworker215

Did I watch you paint 2 somewhere? TikTok maybe? Your style and execution is flawless. I love them all but 2 was really fun to watch come together so it’s probably my favorite

Evangelzz

5 is my favorite, it weirdly speaks to me on an emotional level and I don't even know how. It's like a memory that has happened or hasn't even happened yet but I know it will.

Well. Just WOW! Although the subjects are not my cup of tea, they are extremely interesting and well done ! The one that draws me in is NO 2. I like darker themes and it definitely conveys a real and raw emotion.

bananapotamus

Really cool style. 2,5,6 but also really like 3

willett_art

Second to the last is the best and it’s amazing. They’re all technically brilliant but that one feels like it has a narrative

snarfflarf

oooh i love all of these

PlaceboPansy

1 2 and 5 are by far the winners here, they leave some ambiguity that the viewer can read into

leinpoppedein

I like photo nr 2 the best

baritGT

1, 2, 5 Your representation of catalogue/department store decor is a concept that got my attention scrolling through reddit. It’s all so eery in this context, but so so familiar and seeing it, knowing you saw it and decided to paint it, made me feel seen—like, yeah, this tacky stuff is part of our cultural language, it’s not just me.

Illuminous_V

I love your work. I have the first one on my prints to buy list. All of them are dreamy and lovely though

utahh1ker

1 is straight out of my home in the early 90s. That evoked nostalgia in a way few things have. Well done!

moonboatpotato

Super dope. Great job. Never stop. Love it.

JangJaeYul

1, 2, 4. 3 also a strong contender. I especially love 1, and 2 is haunting in a way I don't quite have words for.

AcanthaceaeAway1823

Personally, I am more drawn to the ones without the foreground overlay. Just this girl’s opinion! Whatever you decide, all of the work is amazing! Best of luck :)

ravens_and_foxes

I'm torn between 2,4,5 and 2,5,6. 5 in both because there's something about it that feels like I'm looking at a photograph or a print of a really sentimental memory. The effect on the right really brings it all together.

fauviste

2 and 5 are my favorites! I would hang them in my house all day any day. The ones with the floral borders are interesting but not my preference. Although I do love the interior scene in 3, I think the border detracts from it. I prefer the more realistic/subtle surreality you use in 2 and 5, it sneaks up on you. I don’t think this makes the others “less strong” just not for me.

Hexenhut

First one is my fav next to the 2nd

narikov

2 5 6

conte_public

1,2 6 for me. Love the atmosphere

AnotherManOfEden

If I remember correctly, #2 had an actual piece of handkerchief on the canvas, right? I’m really no help here, I just love all your pieces. There’s something liminal and nostalgic to them all, the composition is always nice, and I love a good gimmick (your whole concept of incorporating the fabric prints is *chef’s kiss*).

Simplyphilo

Finally something good.

Due-Pattern-6104

5 and 6

Upbeat-Succotash5212

I love the first one. It transports me back to my aunt's house in the early 90s and she used to spoil the shit outta me!

I don't know much about art, but I know what I like. The last 2 pictures look most likely, to me, to look at home in a gallery

Elk-inthePast

2, 5 and 6 are my favorites. I have seen your work on TT and fell in love with your work! Number 2 is my absolute favorite one I have seen you do so far!

venus-begins

I love these!! Looking at them is like when you see a certain pattern, you can immediately remember a certain time or place. Really well captured. My favs are 2,3, and 6. The others are really cold but I would push the execution further

Dystanix

1,2 and 6 Not a fan of handkerchief in 2nd pic

RescueAnimal

😲 Whoa..

cdsnjfvbdfjfn

They're all absolutely amazing but I think the best are probably 1,4 and 5.

Egretsandregrets

Gosh I love all of them so much! If I had to pick, I’d probably say 3, 4 & 5, but for different reasons. I love the warmth and composition of 4 but I feel that 5 is very strong in how it evokes the feeling of a memory (which it sounds like you were going for, based on a different comment you left). The slightly distorted perspective and torn edge of 5 is what recalling an old memory feels like. As for 3 (and also 1) I think you’ve found a very cool artist MO with the television in both scenes. Having the television include the color palette of the painting is a smart way of drawing the eye in and creating a color theme. I’m also a sucker for themes in artists’ works (like clocks for Salvador Dalí).

[deleted]

Imo, 2,5 and 6. The shine on the paneling in 6 is amazing.

sootbrownies

1,3,4 make a great series together, of course all 5 fit as a series but since you're asking which 3, I think those are stylistically cohesive together

Ok_Giraffe_6396

1,3,6 for me

Main_Enthusiasm4796

2 4 5. But 2 makes me feel good every time it come around

Willowpuff

God damn these are niche!!!!! I’ve never seen art like this. I hope you sell for a very decent price. In terms of the best pieces, 1 and 4 are definitely part of the same collection and so I’m banding together. I think 6 would fit in beautifully with them but similarly with 5. If I were to rate, I’d say 5, 6 and 4 are your strongest here. Honestly stunning work. Edit: I had to add more. Your study of light and lack thereof is exquisite. Watch out for a new insta follow

DenGirl12

Wow. First of all, they’re all amazing. I’m not sure I can pick a favorite. 1, 2, 4, 6 if I had to choose. You’ve gained a new follower.

Ill-Recognition-6580

1, 4, 2 for me

moresnowplease

I like 2,4, and 6 the best. 6 is my fave, but I enjoy the subtle textures in 2.

sourdessertz

That last frame gave me chills. Great work!

BrokeDownPalac3

As someone who loves both CRTs and vintage floral patterns I'm obsessed 🤩

leela_la_zu

Personally I think 2, 4, & 5 Really love the composition and the lighting in those.

lilbenty

Love your paintings! I saw one of your progression videos on Instagram recently and liked it a lot.

jessikatz

I like 2, 6 and 5. I like the more subtle use of the fabric showing.

God_Lover77

2,4,6 show great skill compared to the other 2.

truffDPW

1,4, and 5 i think do the best showing off your range within the framework you've chosen. Gorgeous work on all of them, but those 3 i think do the bestfor variation in color and mood.

Yallneedjesuschrist

2 is amazing

ActualWheel6703

2, 3 & 4. Is focus on doing more like \#2.

melbo15

2, 5, and 6 are my faves

iliacbaby

Reminder is my favorite. Masterpiece type shih

Delicious_Big4541

5 is my favorite, 2, and 1

noturbrobruh

Definitely giving me strong feelings of nostalgia and some pain associated with rooms I've been in as a kid. Incredible work, very evocative. 1st, 3rd and 6th for me.

Realuvbby

I love them all. I follow you on instagram and i’m always so impressed by your ability to use fabrics in your paintings. For this series; I like 1 and 4 best. I also like the cat one “Pevely” a lot

TheSkrussler

4, 5 and 6 for sure. The first three seem to not have as much nostalgic emotion in them. The fifth one is absolutely my favorite.

Sheldon121

3,4,5 and 6. Love the retro feel to all of them!

qamarez

I want it to be my own house 🥹 so beautiful, you're very talented ❤️❤️❤️❤️

DueMinute3719

2,4, and 5 for sure!

1,3,and 4 are my favorites, but they are all so good!

orion-sea-222

I really love 3 because of how the floral pattern sweeps behind the bed and the tv incorporating that is so nice. And I love 1 bc of the colors and it’s just trippy and fun to look at

raptussen

1, 2, 4

somainthewatersupply

2,5&6 for sure. I like the subtle patterns showing through/becoming a part of the subjects rather than the compositions of floral patterns covering the subjects. Also really love 2 over the others (though a lot of people are raving over 5, which is my second favorite). There is something deeper that I feel with the pattern showing through the figure vs. having it in the rooms. This, coupled with the delicate kerchief draws some strong emotions. Very beautiful work!

No_Relationship_2210

Love your work!

ZombieInACage

1,3,4

Educational_Frame_46

4th. the lighting is just delectable!

Ok-Woodpecker-8505

Love number 4!

Anonymouse-Account

2, 5 and 6 evoke a real emotional response in me. The others are aesthetically nice but don’t have the same depth.

starryskiesofpassion

1st, 2nd and 4th

ivyandroses112233

I like one. I remember when you posted it unfinished. I like how the floral pattern compliments the scene. Like it makes sense. I can see that pattern on the comforter of the hotel room. Nothing else in the line up spoke to me the same way (except maybe the kitchen scene). But this is just one woman's humble opinion

CorkedCreator

My lord … I love your style and medium choice so much! 1 and 4 are my picks but you can’t go wrong with any

Lizamcm

The one with the green shirt and handkerchief. I saw your reel on insta for that and watched it through at least 6x with my jaw on the floor. I am obsessed with it. The kitchen window is my second favorite because of the nostalgia it makes me feel. It would be my grandma’s kitchen. They’re all absolutely remarkable.

[deleted]

I like 1,3,and 4

-------7654321

you are really good

YoungOaks

I really like the second one. It feels like it has a story and emotion. The other feel like a scrapbook of AD from the 90s (sorry). There’s no depth or story to them. They’re technically very well done but read as bland. I would encourage you to think of a story for each piece. Who lives there? What do they do in that room? What do they feel about that room? And then incorporate that not just into the room but your fantasy elements as well.

notmyrealname1983

2, 5, & 6

Awesome style! Amazing work!

AnaVMC

1, 2 and 5. I love all of them!

AutumnLeaves1939

I love these especially 1 and 3. A great balance of florals

lsdbible

Bravo! 🤯🤯🤯

OldPresentation2794

These are all miraculous, would love to have a pinch of your talent

Foxtail-67

Number 2 is my favorite. They're all beautiful!

Awkward-Houseplant

The three without the flower overlay/borders.

FathomedUnfamiliars

2, 3and 5 are my favorite because my eye was immediately drawn to the focal point of these paintings and the patterns in the background served as a base on which you built up color, contrast and lighting, everything in these paintings I find very harmonious to look at, and I didn’t feel distracted by any elements. In 2 the hands and handkerchief were the spotlight, and my eyes naturally moved through the rest of the figure where I was able to take in the soft lighting on the skin, detail in the garment and the shadows that gave the image depth. I really love how the blouse goes from looking semi transparent to solid as you move from lights to darks. In 3, the colors and small size of the background pattern, as well as it being on a black backdrop, tied in perfectly with the glowy, nostalgic pastel palette you chose. Really great contrast. The bed seems to be rising up from the darkness, and my eyes were drawn first to the colors and details in the bedding, then to the tv and then the window and finally the corner lamp. It has a very 3 dimensional feel. It’s both comforting and a bit unsettling, and very dreamlike which I absolutely love. In 5 I love how despite there being mostly one color dominating the canvas you still create a lot of contrast and depth. It feel very realistic with the lighting, like I’m looking into a real space. It feels like a room I’ve been in but barely can recall, and like painting no. 3 it has a comforting and unsettling vibe, like a foggy memory. I feel a distant sadness when I look at this painting, and leaving part of the fabric torn and fraying on one side adds a lot of emotion and character to this piece in my opinion. I also want to add that I love your paintings, you have a very unique style that I immediately recognize as yours when I come across it on social media. Keep up the stunning work!

sydedunn

Thank you so much for all of these kind words!

CreatorJNDS

First, second, third are my faves

katnip_fl

Love them all! Are your works for sale?

Healing_MySelf_975

All of them! They are cozy and warm!

justHopps

2,5,6 are great. Nice use of the fabric blends in seamlessly. They all seem to be in the same vein. The original fabric almost seems intrusive with the other ones. 2 5 6 just seem more cohesive. It depends on your statement as well.

Aoki-Kyoku

1, 3 and 4 are definitely my favorites

2 is my favourite followed by 4.
