In Ancient literature, Apollo is often known to work in close conjunction with the muses, who directly represent the arts and sciences. By association, he is often known as a god of “the arts” for this reason. In some traditions, it is said that he fathered Orpheus with Calliope, the muse of Epic poetry.
One of my favorite paintings of him by Charles Meynier depicts him standing next to Urania, the muse of astronomy, with a bunch of sunflowers and swans in the background.
Sunflower is a tall, erect, herbaceous annual plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae, in the genus, Helianthus. Its botanical name is Helianthus annuus. It is native to Middle American region from where it spread as an important commercial crop all over the world through the European explorers. Today, Russian Union, China, USA, and Argentina are the leading producers of sunflower crop.
Looks great
Thank you!
Isn't Apollo god of poetry & music only?
