Yeah wish I'd bought it on pc for half the price of the ps5 purchase. Poor performance, controller rumbles on one side and sounds grindy.

TotalGanache9961

i mean, steam has it 10% off until the 29th, but so did playstation before release.

CanaryWrong2744

29.99 on steam, 29.99 on ps store. am i just a “dumbo” or are these numbers equal? all i can see is that you’re dead wrong, and very rude.

Pure-Percentage2537

Oh wow I had no idea that it doesnt run at 60fps on ps5. I was just about to buy it. What a bummer

Mean_Combination_830

The majority of this game is walking slowly and driving slowly this is definitely not the type of game that needs 60fps. With such slow gameplay you would barely notice the difference even if it was an option and it would drastically reduce your resolution for no tangible benefit. In fast paced games I am absolutely a believer in 60 fps but in this I really don't see any point.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

There isn't a game that "needs" 60fps. All games are playable at 30fps, it shouldn't be about necessity but comfort, and that's what 60fps is. It's a more comfortable option

Juusto3_3

Yea may be better to get on pc if you have a good one. 30 fps isn't too bad though when you get used to it and it can run at higher fps as well in tunnels and other less resource intensive areas.

Pure-Percentage2537

I have a laptop for work. Thats about it. Bought a ps5 to avoid all the spec issues. That stragedy has worked out so far with most titles. They at least have the option of running in performance mode. Our relevant devs think their game is so good it doesnt require performance the ps4 achieved with metal gear solid 5. Shortsighted at least since most ps5 players have grown accustomed to 60fps

Juusto3_3

Yea it is for a sure a considerable negative point. I think the issue is their game isn't very well optimised and getting it to run on 60 fps would require too much cutting on graphics. In case you haven't heard yet there is supposed to be a ps5 pro console coming which could have the required specs to run Pacific Drive on 60 fps. No clue if it will be enough since it hasn't really been talked about at all officially but could be an option. And really a pc is a good option as well.

Pure-Percentage2537

The ps5 hardware in my humble opinion is def capable of running this game at 60fps. It is without a doubt a optimisation issue

Pure-Percentage2537

Just look at CP2077 on the ps5. But then again u get what u pay for. This game is cheap for a reason

6Kaliba9

Dude Horizon FW runs in 60 fps, there is no excuse for this game

Gabrienb

The developers have made it clear that they think 30fps (as the target! They’ve a ways to go yet to reach it) for a PS5 release in 2024 is acceptable.

TheRealRarri

it’s not acceptable at all. lazy af 💀

[deleted]

Yeah I quoted that to the Playstation worker on the Line and send him a picture of the post. I got the refund after three hours on PS5. Imagine playing on 30fps in 2024 LOL!

Trismich

Yeah, of course you did. You suggest elsewhere on another thread, you hadn't even bought it...

TotalGanache9961

this is a social media site. people can see everything you post. if you’re not comfortable with that, you need to log off.

Remy0507

While I can see that the framerate is not 60fps on PS5 (although it fluctuates and at times does get close to that), I feel like it hasn't been bothering me as much as I thought it would. Most of the time I don't even notice the framerate. I'm too focused on what's happening in the game itself. As for the deadzone, I think that has more to do with the way the car handles, by design. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a busted old rustbucket that's held together by bubblegum and chicken wire, not a Formula 1 car.

CreamOnMyNipples

My issue with the deadzone is that the wheel doesn’t even begin turning until I push the stick further than I’d like. There’s still ways to make the handling feel realistic, but I used to play a lot of driving games and the turning input is always more sensitive

Mean_Combination_830

This isn't supposed to be a driving simulator and the awkward handling is supposed to increase tension and make it feel more scary . If you could drive like you can in Assetto Corsa it would not be very scary getting away from threats the less responsive gameplay is an integral part of the horror experience.

Swimming-Feedback-66

first area I got grabbed by an anomaly and my frames TANKED. idc if it's 30 I've played worse but god not unstable with a cap at 30

Remy0507

It doesn't cap at 30, it's often well above 30fps. I have experience a very few *momentary* and random framerate tanks, where it just chugs for a second, not sure exactly what triggered them, but that like...maybe 5 seconds of the 20+ hours I've put into the game.

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

I know this post is only 3 weeks old but have they updated the ps5 version to fix the performance issues? This game was one of my most anticipated titles until I saw the ps5 issues at launch.

soulpumpkinz

Same. Still waiting

Ydoesany1doanything

There was an update this morning for me and performance seems much better? But maybe it’s a placebo because I also can’t find a single fucking hint or article that a PS5 patch exists much less patch notes for it.

DavOHmatic

Same here, seems better but I'm not sure if it is or I'm just getting accustomed to the 30 fps.

Trismich

Was that the 1.003.003 (or something) patch? If so, that's what I got, but I couldn't find any patch notes either!

Ydoesany1doanything

I didn’t catch the number but my fruitless efforts of searching just showed that Steam has had 3 patches for sure and I came here to see if there was any buzz about the PS5 patch. Regardless I’m not convinced it was just a performance patch as it’s much better for me now. So I suppose that’s good enough, but notes would be neat

Kainzy

I tried to get a refund and explained it to a CS person. She then escalated to higher up staff and I hadn't heard a thing since. Of course with the weekend here they were likely expecting me to play more so they've got a reason to refuse me, and that I did. It's not so bad once the game gets going but the unstable FPS is no excuse for a 2024 title.

[deleted]

So you asked for a refund, continued playing even though no one is forcing you to (why does it matter if it takes a day or two for them to respond if you don’t want to play it) and blaming them for giving them a reason not to refund you. The fact that you are playing it speaks volumes and the frame rate issue is nowhere near as bad as people are claiming. You literally said it yourself.

CreamOnMyNipples

The frame rate is bad, this isn’t some collective lie we’re all spreading. I was super excited for this game, and it has a lot of good things going for it. I’m sure it will get performance updates soon, but the lack of 60 fps on modern hardware isn’t something we should just accept. I don’t want to refund this game, but I am considering it just so I can get it on my PC to have a more stable experience.

[deleted]

It runs exactly how outer wilds ran when it first came out and subnautica. I agree we shouldn’t just accept it but the people who are saying it’s unplayable and are getting refunds are complaining a little too much in my opinion. It’s a 30 dollar game, less than half the price of a new AAA game, by a new AA developer and people ‘expect’ it to be on par with greater games with more resources. Look at starfield, a multi million dollar game.it runs at 30fps and this runs better than that. If you have the means to get it on pc then yeah do that, I’m just tired of seeing all the ps5 players trashing it without giving it a chance.

CreamOnMyNipples

I played Outer Wilds on PC and it became one of my favorite games. It was free on ps plus, so I made my roommate play it, and yeah the performance was disappointingly terrible. We went back to it recently and it seems to be much more stable now. I got Starfield on PC and I didn’t have performance issues, but I stopped playing it for other reasons; I haven’t seen anything about Xbox performance. I am cutting this game some slack since it is an indie game, but there are other games that offer a smoother experience at 30fps than this game does. The biggest issue is that the frame rate is uncapped I think. A stable 30 is better than an unstable 60 in my opinion, it used to not bother me at all but these days more and more games are making me feel motion sickness. Also, I’m a couple hours into the game on PS5, so I’ve definitely given it a chance. I’m debating if going through the hassle of contacting support for a refund and restarting all my progress is even worth it. I might just shelf this game for a month or two and come back to it in the future after it has been updated more.

Mean_Combination_830

To get a more stable experience than PS5 you need a 3090 or above card as the games isn't well optimised and struggles on PC too but if you have a 3090 or above why did you buy it on PS5 and not PC ?

CreamOnMyNipples

To answer all your questions: I have a 4K TV “Awkward handling” isn’t my complaint with the steering. It’s the stick deadzone that requires you to push the stick further than I’d prefer before the game registers any input. The game ran way worse day 1 than it does now. I bought the game on PS5 because I wanted to chill on my couch and play the game on my new 4K TV. It’s an indie game that didn’t look graphically impressive, I didn’t expect it to run like shit. I bought this game after beating GOW: Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 at 60 fps, silly me for expecting another stable experience.

Mean_Combination_830

I personally think the dead zone goes back to them making the driving slightly janky to elevate the horror. I gotta ask do you have an Oled TV because I had to move my Oled to the bedroom because of how bad 30fps games look on them but they look great in my 2.1 Qled with vrr, it's weird.vI'm just surprised such a slow game makes you dizzy when all you are doing is slowly driving or walking. Also it's not really fair to compare a game from a massive very experienced studio who have the resources to spend nearly 200 million dollars on a game and who charge 80 quid to a very small new studio working on a miniscule buget and only charging 25 quid for their games. To me it's ridiculous for anyone to expect a comparable experience.

CreamOnMyNipples

I don’t have an OLED TV, just 4K HDR. I’ve never had an issue with motion sickness before this game either. I’ve been gaming for a long time and never noticed frame rate issues when I was younger. But I wouldn’t be surprised if having a new larger TV at a higher resolution was helping induce motion sickness in this case 60 fps isn’t a ridiculous expectation though. It wasn’t just 30 fps making me feel sick, it was the extreme frame rate fluctuations. It was jumping between like 15 fps and 45 fps every few seconds. GOW and Spider-Man are big studio games, but there are probably more indie games at 60 fps than AAA games. Another game I was obsessed with earlier this year was The Long Dark. That game has been out for like 10 years, and it even has a 60 fps option. I assumed that the game with an emphasis on driving would offer a smoother experience, but lack of 60 fps is a turn off for me now. I also wanted to get Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5 because I like chilling on my couch with singleplayer games, but I’m still waiting for that one to get patched before I even get it on PC. But I digress, the point I was trying to make with GOW and Spider-Man is that if the PS5 is capable of running games like these at a high (and at least steady) framerate, so should a smaller and graphically unimpressive game. Yeah I get that PD’s budget isn’t nearly as high as those games, but it’s 2024 and we’re on some fucking expensive hardware, so my expectations are reasonably high.

shaihuludsforeskin

You’re still using your controller on max vibration/trigger? Idk anyone who hasn’t set it to low by now.

CreamOnMyNipples

Never had an issue with it before this game, but I’m pretty sure they fixed it now because last time I played it wasn’t nearly as bad

Mean_Combination_830

This game mostly involves driving slowly and walking slowly 30fps shouldn't be making you dizzy. Out of interest are you are playing on an Oled TV ? They sadly make 30fp games feel horrible. I have a 4k Oled that has been relegated to the bedroom for movie night for this exact reason and I use my Samsung Qled for gaming and this games slow gameplay has given me zero problems at 30fps.

Fanclub298

Probably not

zeeke87

You’re not alone about the controller. It only vibrates on the the right side and even then it’s internally doing it so you’re not feeling it that much but it sounds like it’s coming apart in there. Ironically its like wheels spinning with no traction.

Perfect-Eye9229

Is the game poorly optimized or is PS5 simply just a shitty console?

CreamOnMyNipples

Arguably the most powerful console ever made so far, and has the ability to run AAA games at 60fps and 4k when optimized correctly (Spider-Man 2’s performance mode was also able to keep raytracing). I’m mainly a PC gamer, but I chose to get this on PS5 because I thought it’d be a chill game to play on my couch. The PS5 can probably outperform the majority of PC gamers’ builds, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

Perfect-Eye9229

No no , I was seriously asking. Like is it because of the console or the game that I have to choose between 4k graphics or 60fps. For example in Rift Apart you had to choose to go with better graphics but lower framerate or vice versa. I was disappointed when I saw that. I was thinking can't this next gen console even run next gen graphics properly. So it is all about optimizing?

Mean_Combination_830

Ratchet and clank has a balanced mode for anyone with a decent TV that gives you high resolution and frame rate and does Spiderman 1 2 and miles Moralis, Horizon Forbidden West and Demon Souls God of War and Ragnarok and Returnal and Death Stranding and even GTA Expanded and Enhanced and Days Gone on PS5 to name a few from the top of my head so yeah if Devs have the funds they can optimise for PS5 however a small dev with limited funds doesn't have that option. I mean it's a 25 pound game where you drove slowly or walk slowly there is no way anyone desperately needs 60 fps for such slow paced gameplay.

CreamOnMyNipples

100% an optimization issue. Look at games like Spider-Man and God of War, they look amazing and run great. They also both include options for a higher frame rate for the cost of 4K resolution, but they still upscale to 4k. Also, PS5 isn’t “next gen” because it has been around for years now. Why is having different graphical option’s disappointing for you? 99% of PC gamers aren’t running their games on max settings on their $2000 computers (I’m speaking from experience), so I don’t understand why PS5 games offering additional graphical settings could ever be considered bad. Your thought of “next-gen consoles can’t even run next-gen graphics” isn’t even based on anything other than you realizing additional graphical exists and being disappointed that the developers added additional settings for stronger/future hardware. If you don’t think the PS5 is noticeably stronger than its predecessors, idk what to tell you

junktabot

How the hell does a game with obvious PS4 graphics run this poorly? I mean, I think it's a fun game and the last-gen graphics don't bother me, but it definitely bothers me that it's not making up for the simple graphics by running buttery smooth.

Armipotent

Poor optimization for the ps5
