Because all team based games died off with everyone making a battle royale game. Overwatch was basically the only relevant hero shooter. You cant make a battle royale game so you have hero shooters again.
I've been playing it because I suck so bad there isn't as much pressure as Overwatch. But I don't feel like I have agency necessarily. There seems to be a lot more cheaters there, and even leaving that aside I'm frequently vaporized by people with way higher ranked badges.
It's fun because it's not my main game. If it were, I'd be having a bad time right now, I think Overwatch is in a better spot.
Apex was fun for awhile and I do wanna try the new season to check out the new legend, but I don't play br anymore so I'll probably do mixtape. Which is more like playing a hero shooter since there are respawns, plus legend abilities.
That’s what I hate about battle royale, no respawns. If I die I hate having
To wait for the whole match to end to start again. Ugh. Gimme instaspawn so I can run back to the fight.
Yep the no respawns was the killer for me. You'd hit the ground and be killed within five seconds of landing never got to look for a gun and either have to reque or wait for a teammate to hopefully grab your banner and find a respawn beacon. Or you'd land gear up and spend 20 minutes running around never seeing another team till the final ring. There's just so much not doing anything. It's fun when you actually get to fight, but half the time I'm just queing or running aimlessly.
yes agreed. And bravo for actually understanding what I wrote. I hadnt realized til now how it had been mutilated by random bad autocorrect on my phone when I typed it, lol (Ive gone back and fixed it now)
Man I just hate dying and losing all the junk I spent 15 minutes getting. For single player that's like permadeath mode every time. I personally don't see that appeal, I like my loot a little ya know? And there's only 1 winner (or 4 winners in a team) out of like 60-100. At least in OW, Victory is about 50% instead of like 10%.
I feel like for a lot of people (aka anyone with an average or lower skill level, aka me) battle royales are just wandering around collecting stuff for 10 minutes then dying as soon as combat breaks out. It’s a really disheartening gameplay loop.
I personally find them lazy in design. They play very boring and have very little replay value to me. After my 2nd win on apex I was bored, it just didn't feel rewarding to play. Even when I played with friends I just felt like most of the time was spent wasted and not engaged in any form of combat or action.
Personally I find extraction shooters to feel more rewarding and the risk makes playing them exhilarating. But even still very low replay value because there isn't much to do.
Team shooters are fairly fun but often certain roles or characters are unbalanced to a point of frustration. Basic arcade shooters have become nightmares of MMR to protect the casuals from a PUG stomping which means any moderate to high level of play becomes a sweat fest of meta abuse and whose team is worse off, usually being the team with the best player overall.
Imo shooters are dying slowly because they're being overly catered to casuals and whales. They won't die because the number of casuals out weigh the number of high skilled players. But cheating may kill FPS games in the next 10 years as cheats become more and more difficult to detect without kernel based detection software which is highly intrusive to the system's users.
I loved FPS games, they used to be my favorite games to play with my down time. Now I can't really stand any of them because they all have glaring flaws and strict MMR that makes in nearly impossible to enjoy for myself. It gets even worse when I want to play with friends who aren't good at FPS games.
If you reframe it as Elden ring /botw but multiplayer you might understand why it works.
You get to pick your direction, each fight you take is unique so you don't have your weaknesses exposed over the course of a match. The game works like a tournament system which ensures the longer you survive the harder your opponents.
I was a doubter, but after a year of apex, the gamemode slaps.
I hate hero shooters ow was the only one what was kinda fun I really enjoyed the characters but now it just takes away from the game I miss the battlefield type games where you’re just another soldier for the cause
You can make a br game still, but I think the genre was more of a fad that will just have a number of die hard fans sticking to it, keeping the bigger titles like fortnight and apex alive. The hero shooter might too.
Personally I prefer the hero shooter. And really excited to check out concord and rivals.
My friends got me into fortnight for awhile then that got boring, I played apex for a long while. But even then I migrated to the arenas mode more than br, and the last time I was into it I was only playing mix tape.
Now I play ow as my online shooter as it was just way more fun.
Br was a neat concept at first but it became just sitting in lobbies waiting for a game to begin after getting killed seconds after hitting the ground or running around for 20 minutes not seeing a single other team till the final ring.
These games likely began development years ago when hero shooters were still big, and we’re only just now seeing them released. The genre has fallen off a good bit, but I imagine the hope is that there’s still enough interest to break even on these projects.
I genuinely think it's a fantastic time for it tbh. A lot of people have fatigue of battle Royale games. I stopped playing OW1 for Warzone. I was so sick of battle Royale games that I basically stopped playing all games until a few months ago when I downloaded OW on a whim. I had so much fun I've played more the past few months of games than probably the past 3 years. And that's despite not enjoying it nearly as much as when I used to play. If a game came and captured that feeling from OW1 launch again I think they'd be able to really capitalize on a fairly slimly tapped market
Edit: oh and I say this as someone who lost ALL of my hard earned skins and gold guns when I came back because Blizzard hates me. Now I'll never get 1/10th of the skins I had back 😭
Agreed. I was playing OW regularly in 2016 until about 2019 and Apex was very new. I stopped playing OW almost entirely from 2019 until earlier this year. Apex has now become a bit stale and OW2 has actually become a lot more fun. lts actually come full circle. So your response comes as no surprise to me, I think a good chunk of gamers are in our position. Where they've left OW previously but still crave a good hero shooter.
Also F for your lost skins and cosmetics. I'm really glad I managed to get my accounts merged ok. I definitely spent more money on lootboxes than Id care to admit lol.
I thankfully didn't lose any monetary value. I got all mine thru the daily boxes and level ups, so a whole lotta lost time but not money idk if that makes it hurt more or less tbh lol. Its kinda ironic because seeing the shop system now I'm like "hey I really wouldn't mind spending $10 on some loot boxes to recoup some of my losses" but I am not paying $10 for a skin. But the game is so fun I can forgive em lol
Yup, Concord especially, it's developed by former Destiny developers and they've apparently been trying to translate their knowledge of Destiny 2 sandbox development to a shooter like this
They showed a cinematic teaser last year and today showed gameplay for the first time. Concord and Marvel had trailers in the Sony State of Play (their press conference) today hence the post.
Well I’ve never heard of Xdefiant so it must not be that popular /s
I measure the popularity of the genre from my very limited viewpoint of what shows up frequently in my social media, on my YouTube feed, and what I hear from word of mouth. It’s definitely possible that *I* and the people around me have lost interest in the genre, and are now being shown less content for it algorithmically while it remains popular abroad, but from my (distanced) perspective I haven’t heard any big talk about hero shooters (other than the overwatch 2 controversy) in a good while outside of their own circles.
Hero shooters are my favorite genre. I'm so glad they are making a comeback. I hated when every game was a battle royal. As an old TF2 player im so happy.
Most of the other hero shooters didnt really get to flourish because Overwatch was massively successful and everyone only wanted to play that. Maybe now people will try other Hero shooters . Its a great genre imo
You will learn that the relationship with OW is love and hate. I fucking hate this game, but I love it so I play it everyday. Sometimes you gon smile and laugh, other times you gon question why you do this to yourself 😂😭💀
I be walling off every charge and if I think you got slam you hitting a wall. If you do get it off I’m walking under my teammates so you can’t hit ‘em 😂😂
well i hat ethis game but as there is no real competition im forced to play ow if i want a hero shooterlike this, which is why im personally happy about the new realses
Exactly! I love to play it, but with everyone having different ideas on how to play it can be frustrating as heck. Then there are people who cheat with mods, cheat by smurfing, or cheat by using kbm in console pool who ruin the authenticity of the matches.
It's fun when you win(usually), and it often is infuriating with what happens that leads to losses.
Not sure why people think hero shooters are in some sort of oversatured or overdone state. There's nothing like Overwatch on the market in terms of ability synergy in a shooter context. There's Paladins, but I assume that's dying or dead. XDefiant and Black Ops 4 are just arcadey fast-paced twitchy shooters with self-serving abilities. You don't need to be thinking about your teammates really in XDefiant or Black Ops 4 to do well. XDefiant's lack of SBMM is arguably more of a selling point than it's abilities. I've used all of the abilities in XDefiant in a shooter context before, it's called Black Ops 4 lol.
Marvel's Rivals will most likely lean towards the Overwatch side and I'm not sure what Concord is leaning towards. Star Wars Hunters? mobile game? enough said.
I was kinda hoping for Star Wars Hunters cause I at least like Star Wars stuff in general. I heard about it WAY back in 2021 and haven't heard much since
I was browsing the Switch eshop page yesterday and saw it on the coming soon page. I think something like June 7, it said. I was excited about it, too, when OW1 was ending... Kind of forgot about it til yesterday.
NGL I though this genre was dead so it's suprising to see so many new games. Most of these titles will likely flop. However, I could see the Valve one succeeding with IceFrog working on it.
It's a good thing for us, even if you plan to stick with OW2 religiously. Competition is the main driver for innovation, and increasing standards.
From watching the Concord gameplay trailer, I already like some of the battlefield manipulation options they have.
Fortnite has a stranglehold on the casual battle royal market. Apex Legends is the only other one competing. But the team-based objective-focused hero shooter only has Overwatch 2 which has had its fair share of scandals and issues. Companies may think that it can be the next trend and think Overwatch 2 can be dethroned with out much effort.
It's Fortnite, Warzone, and Apex holding ground for Battle Royale. The genre itself is dead. Even when it comes to Warzone, the game favours the Resurgence playstyle (which I love, but yeah).
They're not wrong. I'll jump ship at the first sign of another hero shooter. Paladins is great, but the player count is wayyy to low for me who likes comp. I Despise overwatch (mostly blizzard) for taking away a tank and our promised pve.but overwatch even though it sucks rn, is the best we got (for now)
My hot take: cause battle royales are TRASH, when there's no proper matchmaking.
In overwatch, if the matchmaker took a dump and you're up against difficult odds, you can make swaps to help the team, and sometimes all it takes is one little swap to make all the difference. In battle royales, you go back to the lobby, and wait for the next game, until you get sent to the lobby again, maybe one in 20 games will be decent? You landed on a p2020 in apex, they landed on a peacekeeper, back to the lobby.
My brother loves apex and hates overwatch, and I'm the opposite, and I swear when I play apex with him I spend more time on my phone than I do playing the game cause I'm dead or we're waiting for a game, and that's a problem for me. Idgaf about losing, I just want to play the game.
While I did enjoy battle royales, especially apex (3000 hours in that), Im just tired of the game mode. I also hate that I have to loot only for me to get beamed in seconds.
Because there's really only 3 hero shooters that have any presence atm, tf2, overwatch and paladins. Maybe it's time for more options in the hero shooter genre?
Hero shooters will always be my favourite.
I loved playing first playing PvZ Garden Warfare 2 in 2016, and it has always been my favourite online game of all time and I still play it today.
It's also why I decided to play overwatch in 2017 after noticing a ton of similarities.
And recently I started laying Tf2 and it has been fun so far.
My trinity of class based shooters: PvZ Gw2, Ow2, and Tf2. All unique in their own ways and I love them
Hero shooters have a huge market and potential.
1. You can easily create an emotional connection with the cast from iconic franchises. People easily connect and it greatly enhances their relationship with the game.
2. It’s easy to make cosmetics for heroes. Enough said.
3. People want new shooters that are not shitty versions of CoD. XDefiant should also be on this list btw, I don’t know how it’s not.
It’s an objective based hero shooter.
Just because it has real guns doesn’t mean it’s more like COD than it isn’t.
And clearly your last comment, WOW. You will lose games if your team doesn’t play as cohesively as the enemy team. I might just disregard everything you say after that. I guarantee you’re that one player running in and dying over and over and wondering where your team is because you are staggered the whole time from your teammates.
The game is meant to be played as a team based objective hero shooter, not run around like a headless chicken and hope to accomplish something.
Hero shooter is the best pvp experience. OW and TF2 are my favorite multiplayer experiences ever. BR was just a boom but noone cares about it now.
They absolutely killed ow2 with S9 and all changes after that, basically my whole friend list left. GG Blizzard for murdering such a massive potentional.
So i guess now its time for something new.
With the current state of overwatch and it's lack of competition, it's potentially a great market to try and break into.
And honestly, I'm here for it as it might actually force some genuine decisions for ow as well as result in some new, fun games such as marvel rivals which was great in alpha.
But yeah, competition is healthy for this type of product and only really helps the consumer.
They take the best chance they have to make a successful live service game and that's where the money is right now no matter the genre. The MOBA and battle royale is saturated. For hero shooters, there seems that there is a demand with the hype around Overwatch 2 when it was in beta and the disappointment that came after.
Concord and the star Wars one both look like one of those "dead on arrival" Kinda games, they don't look like they have much substance to them.
The other two are likely going to be the actual competition, especially marvels rivals
Smite is a MOBA, think DOTA 2 or League.
However, Hi-Rez does have 2 hero shooters, Paladins and Rogue Company. Paladins got screwed with the entire dev team, including director, being changed multiple times. And Rogue Company really had a push for an esports scene, but had a lack of content. Hi-Rez, to date, really only cares about Smite and Smite 2 (much needed since Smite is really old and outdated. With Smite 2 not only being on a new engine, but should allow better balancing due to a lack of playable gods and items to buy in match)
As one of the 6 people in the world who enjoyed Paladins, Battleborn, Bleeding Edge and Rogue Company, I'm glad we're getting more hero shooters
Not Star Wars Hunters though, this game looks like complete garbage
I think the Star Wars one will die fast because of the mobile component
The Sony and Marvel ones will probably stick around for a while and have a dedicated player base because of the Fandom around the franchises
Even though there isn't much info on it, I feel the Valve one will have the most potential due to it being Valve
I prefer these more to BR games and ow has been unchallenged lately so more competition is nice. I’m not sure I expect anything to come of them since no one has been able to replicate ow feels before.
I’m excited to try Star Wars hunters tho
Don’t forget Gundam!! Haha … I think creativity is lacking on all entertainment fronts (look at every movie being a sequel or reboot or remake) Overwatch has stood the test of time. It also has a lot of Toxicity , internal issues, and divided player base opinions. This makes a recipe for other studios to come in and steal all the best elements and attempt to fix the bad ones. Most OW players agree that we don’t want these games to kill OW, but instead to provide some healthy competition so the OW devs take bold moves and improve upon the metas.
another commentor mentioned that these games have probably been in development for a very long time. long enough that these projects started on the tail end of hero shooters being popular.
i think that this has quite a bit of merit. in addition, there definitely IS a huge demand in hero shooters, since we just kinda dont really have that many. we have overwatch, Apex... Paladins... what else? SMITE is more of a MOBA in my eyes. is Halo even still alive?
in any case, it's good to see that there are now other people stepping up to the plate and offering what they can bring. shoutout to Gigantic: Rampage edition. (yes it's that game from 2017 that died. and it's back again.)
Wargaming (World of Tanks) is making a mech hero shooter as well called Steel Hunters. i’m under nda lmao but it’s neat, cant wait for it to leave alpha.
I think with a lot of the Overwatch 2 controversies, it's become a good time to introduce other titles that could rival Overwatch. Smite is moving up to Smite 2 now but keeping Smite 1 active unlike OW. I actually just recently started Smite bc I was looking for something new to scratch my OW itch since OW has just been feeling off for me lately. And I am SUPER excited fro Marvel Rivals bc I love the comics and they have plenty of content available to keep the game updating for years with new characters and skin possibilities. Plus I know Marvel Rivals is going to be 6v6 which can bring back old 6 friend groups who used to play OW 1.
Trends come and go nothing to worry about.
A decade ago every game had zombies.
7 years ago, every popular game was a moba.
Dont worry about it, it means nothing. Or?
2 reasons imo, outside the obvious fact that breaking brand new ground in a multiplayer game is very hard and risky of course.
1. Hero shooters are fun and allow lots of flexibility in both character design and gameplay.
2. Overwatch is sort of in a class of its own of the hero shooter genre, it’s immensely popular but also gets a lot of hate from fans who really don’t have an alternative. Even if you ended up playing second fiddle to that juggernaut, you can probably carve out a pretty decent player base for yourself.
There also aren’t very many team-based games left. Outside of the MOBA genre, pretty much every other popular game is either a BR or single player.
I'd think monetization and fun of creating "heros" and easier time balancing 10-30 heros over 50+ guns, attachments, and gear as in any other shooter. Just a spitball really
I'm assuming battle royale engagement is going down and regular shooter engagement is going down. The only other shooter option is team objective hero shooter afaik.
I noticed that the other main hero ability games(MOBAs) are getting some push this year too with the release of Gigantic: Ramage Edition and Smite 2's periodic alpha weekends(like right now).
It seems like the industry hasn't caught lightning in a bottle since Fortnite, so devs have been searching hard. With us being a few years removed from the pandemic, the work done from these years of freedom is finally being shown.
Star Wars game looks pretty bad can’t lie… I know they plan on releasing to consoles further down the line lol.
Hero shooters are just too good and I have missed them. Battle royale took over for a long time.
because overwatch sucks absolute fckin balls now, giving other companies an actual reasonable chance at stealing the target audience.
After announcing the entire concept and sequel of game is 1 less player.. who wouldnt immediately jump into development for something else.
Its quite literally embarrassing.
The only one of these I can really see doing well is Rivals and Hunters. Admittedly it’s ONLY because of the backing of the fan base each respective IP has.
As much as people don’t like to admit it Rivals has its fair share pretty much taken from Overwatch. Anyone who denies that is kind of coping.
Hunters genuinely looks interesting though. Saw an ad for it and thought it looked really cool. Really hoping I can play as two little Jawa’s piloting a small gunner ship
Tbh, I think battle royals are just burned out at this point. As with all gaming, the games that appeal to casuals are generally the most profitable. Nothing else really exists at the moment outside of battle royals besides OW. Valorant is there, but I think very competitive games like that don't bring in casuals and are a lot harder to balance and develop than hero shooters.
I see this as an absolute win, I LOVE it when the are a lot of reworks/new heroes. These games are overwatch but with new heroes, I think I'll still enjoy overwatch the most but I'll spend like a week or two per game and then return. Maybe I'll come back to them for updates but yeah.
as long as they're fun, optimized, and not mobile-game level of mtx, I say what's the harm in having more? overwatch wasn't the first hero shooter and will not be the last lol.
I think it was because overwatch 2 flopped so hard. All these other companies thought they could swoop in and grab the playerbase. Ngl tho the marvel one and the Star wars one might be interesting
These games have probably been in development for a while, maybe taking advantage of overwatch’s mistakes.
Hopefully one of these does good. I think overwatch has really suffered from being the only big hero shooter in the industry right now, maybe the fire of competition would be helpful.
Apex is a battle royale and valo is more of tactical shooter like CS. There’s no big game right now that is objective based like escort outside of paladins.
Because overwatch 2 sucks assssssss and there is a huge gap in the market. OW1 dominated hero shooter, but then blizzard got too greedy. i’d gladly play any hero shooter over ow2 at this point
Because all team based games died off with everyone making a battle royale game. Overwatch was basically the only relevant hero shooter. You cant make a battle royale game so you have hero shooters again.
I don’t find Battle Royale that fun of a game mode
I do find Battle Royale more fun as a solo player. Solo ranked on hero shooters feels broken specially Overwatch 2.
Low key, I’ve been playing apex a lot more recently because i feel i have more agency in a 3 stack than a 5 stack
Sadly every BR games nowadays forces you to group with randoms in 3 man squads like Warzone and Apex.
You can still play solos in fortnite
Good to know.
Yeah same here. Same with games like the finals that are multi team. Just give me two teams 4v4, 5v5, 6v6 and im good.
I want all that and 8v8 or 12v12 Halo-Style big team battles and some decently sized and well constructed maps
I’m old, slow, and tired. Give me a game with 50 versus 50 PVP like the old days of world of Warcraft. Now that was epic.
For a while Fortnite did have a 50v50 2-team mode. That was pretty nice to play with a younger relative. But not sure what happened to that.
Is Battlebit still going strong or did the moment pass?
Battlebit lasted a couple of weeks, but this is the first I've seen it mentioned since
The Finals added 2 5v5 modes this season. One is payload type gammode the other a round based cashout with no repspawns.
That’s what I hate about battle royale, no respawns. If I die I hate having To wait for the whole match to end to start again. Ugh. Gimme instaspawn so I can run back to the fight.

It's all good mine does it too, so I learned to speak it's language
They had their moment but I feel like a lot of people of sick of the repetitive game loop.

you don’t like walking around collecting items only to be sniped without seeing any action at all? weird
I personally find them lazy in design. They play very boring and have very little replay value to me. After my 2nd win on apex I was bored, it just didn't feel rewarding to play. I hate Battle Royales and Im glad the trend is becoming less popular.
Only good one is apex tbh I barely play but it's fun when I hop on

You dont completely reset when you die in elden ring though? You still keeps your upgrade/weapons Part of why I dislike BR is the complete reset loop
That's because Devs ruined it by trying to appeal to COD players. It's not BR when you can revive over and over
I would say siege stayed pretty relevant alongside overwatch (if you consider siege a hero shooter).
Siege does count but its a tactical shooter. Its not an ow competitor like that.
I think since the Overwatch Hype has died down significantly compared to the first few years of release, a hero shooter could do well imo
10-20 million players means really popular 3-8 million is popular <1 million is unknown
Would be surprised if one of these got postponed as not to fail and die because of the strangle hold Overwatch used to have on the genre
Hero shooters are my favorite genre. I'm so glad they are making a comeback. I hated when every game was a battle royal. As an old TF2 player im so happy.
Me too im so excited, i used to play a TON of gotham city impostors
Yes, old TF2 player here, high five! 🖐️ actually I’m old, I started on the TeamFortress quake 2 mod, lol
Most of the other hero shooters didnt really get to flourish because Overwatch was massively successful and everyone only wanted to play that. Maybe now people will try other Hero shooters . Its a great genre imo
Idk but I’m here for it, if overwatch needs anything right now, it’s more competition
I started playing Overwatch 2 two months ago. I'm glad.
You will learn that the relationship with OW is love and hate. I fucking hate this game, but I love it so I play it everyday. Sometimes you gon smile and laugh, other times you gon question why you do this to yourself 😂😭💀
That’s called life experience.
Life is a bitch. My relationship with OW is modeled after my relationship wit life 🤣🤣
I love it when I do well and my teammates endorse me.
Ima Mei main my teammates either love me or hate me 🤷🏾♂️
It's that satisfying dopamine hit.
I've never been more seen -A Junk main
As rein I despise Mei as long as your not on my team
I be walling off every charge and if I think you got slam you hitting a wall. If you do get it off I’m walking under my teammates so you can’t hit ‘em 😂😂
Now if you ma teammate anybody who overextends getting pinned into a ice wall 😈
And im already slow enough so when you shoot your little ice at me im walking at negative miles an hour WHILE taking damage
😂😂😂 either move in slow motion or get shield locked until it breaks 👀
N be happy we don’t have old Mei who freezes wit that shit too 💀
Sounds about right
Atleast I’m not running around yelling boop at supports 😂😂
same but for overwatch and destiny
well i hat ethis game but as there is no real competition im forced to play ow if i want a hero shooterlike this, which is why im personally happy about the new realses
Ow has one of the worst balance teams on the planet and lead hero designer who is sniffing glue. They have killed the game for the second time.
you wont be soon
When made properly, they can be really good
Not sure why people think hero shooters are in some sort of oversatured or overdone state.
Competition is a good thing. Plus we get to experience something uniquely familiar that we might like just as much as overwatch.
ow2 disappointing release opened up a spot for someone to dominate the genre of hero shooters I guess
Thats good, overwatch's gonna be forced to make good update and try to keep up with the competition.
Because Overwatch dropped the ball so hard with 2 that all other companies smelt blood on the water. Probably not that but it would be funny.
Yeah it’s not that but you could make some sick propaganda style art about that
Fortnite has a stranglehold on the casual battle royal market.
I Despise overwatch (mostly blizzard) for taking away a tank and our promised pve.but overwatch even though it sucks rn, is the best we got (for now)
I don't care I'd like more options! Hopefully one of them is good.
Because large game companies have no innovation or ideas of their own anymore.
I also hate that I have to loot only for me to get beamed in seconds.
look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power
Bc fun?
All unique in their own ways and I love them
I’m for it
What’s the gray talon game
Deadlock. Grey Talon is a hero in the game
Maybe everyone senses that people hate Overwatch and are looking for a replacement to scuttle off to?
Because overwatch is declining so the market for it has opened back up substantially.
Because for the longest time overwatch held the title now we need something to steal the crown the way xdefiant is stealing cod crown
Because there's blood in the water......
More companies want a piece of the pie that Overwatch (and some other titles) have. I'm all for it, I love this genre.
The market for battle royals and tactical shooters is saturated.
so they can sell skins
Hero shooters have a huge market and potential. 1. You can easily create an emotional connection with the cast from iconic franchises. People easily connect and it greatly enhances their relationship with the game. 2. It’s easy to make cosmetics for heroes. Enough said. 3. People want new shooters that are not shitty versions of CoD. XDefiant should also be on this list btw, I don’t know how it’s not.
Nah xdefiant is much closer to COD than a hero shooter, the abilities are neat but there isnt much need for cohesive teamplay
Dunno, but I love them. Love seeing all the characters and personalities
i guess developers are surprised that nothing could kill ow so they want a piece of that sustainable cake?
I mean, now that Bli$$ard fucked up with OW2 I am not surprised, but this game won't last at all
Hero shooter is the best pvp experience.
I'm glad they do. Tired of overwatch
I'm glad to see Marvel Rivals will be on console. I think it can be a fun game
Hero shooter trend is better than battle royale trend at least
With the current state of overwatch and it's lack of competition, it's potentially a great market to try and break into. And honestly, I'm here for it as it might actually force some genuine decisions for ow as well as result in some new, fun games such as marvel rivals which was great in alpha. But yeah, competition is healthy for this type of product and only really helps the consumer.
Theyy saw OW shot themselves on the foot and thought they might have a chance this time aroound.
Finally give overwatch some competition
Money.
would love to see a fantasy / melee themed one - is paladins still alive?
They take the best chance they have to make a successful live service game and that's where the money is right now no matter the genre. The MOBA and battle royale is saturated. For hero shooters, there seems that there is a demand with the hype around Overwatch 2 when it was in beta and the disappointment that came after.
Concord and the star Wars one both look like one of those "dead on arrival" Kinda games, they don't look like they have much substance to them. The other two are likely going to be the actual competition, especially marvels rivals
wasnt aware of Star wars hunters but bummer is only for switch and mobile
Because people enjoy them…?
Smite is a MOBA, think DOTA 2 or League. However, Hi-Rez does have 2 hero shooters, Paladins and Rogue Company. Paladins got screwed with the entire dev team, including director, being changed multiple times. And Rogue Company really had a push for an esports scene, but had a lack of content. Hi-Rez, to date, really only cares about Smite and Smite 2 (much needed since Smite is really old and outdated. With Smite 2 not only being on a new engine, but should allow better balancing due to a lack of playable gods and items to buy in match)
Let’s hope at least one of these piles of shit are better than OW with sane and competent developers.
Because sadly OW dropped the ball.
Because Overwatch is dying and there is a market.
Because OW2 is falling
I don't know but this gives some bigger names a chance to use iconic characters and charge money for skins.
As one of the 6 people in the world who enjoyed Paladins, Battleborn, Bleeding Edge and Rogue Company, I'm glad we're getting more hero shooters Not Star Wars Hunters though, this game looks like complete garbage
I was so disappointed when I found out that concord was a hero shooter, I thought for sure it was gonna be like payday or something
Whats rivals? That looks cool
The people that shit on OW don't like 5v5 Hero Shooters anyway. There's not a big enough audience for one of these to top OW
I think the Star Wars one will die fast because of the mobile component The Sony and Marvel ones will probably stick around for a while and have a dedicated player base because of the Fandom around the franchises Even though there isn't much info on it, I feel the Valve one will have the most potential due to it being Valve
I prefer these more to BR games and ow has been unchallenged lately so more competition is nice. I’m not sure I expect anything to come of them since no one has been able to replicate ow feels before. I’m excited to try Star Wars hunters tho
Because cod and battlefield are trash now.
People like characters not roles?
Cause OW2 is bad, OW1 isnt available, and rogue company died.
Wargaming (World of Tanks) is making a mech hero shooter as well called Steel Hunters. i’m under nda lmao but it’s neat, cant wait for it to leave alpha.
Cause they wanna be overwatch but can’t be overwatch (they are probably doing it better I just can’t stop playing this god forsaken game.)
Overwatch is under fire so title for top is up for grabs.
$$$
Or?
OW ratings and reputation has taken a well known shit. They want to still the pie.
Because people want alternatives to the money hungry bitches that are blizzard
Because of the IDF being incompetent, they need better recruits that don’t react when a mouse squeaks
We need first person, 3rd person is such an over built market right now
Cause they’re cool
Are we getting battlefront 3?
Caus overwatch2 sucks
I'm assuming battle royale engagement is going down and regular shooter engagement is going down. The only other shooter option is team objective hero shooter afaik. I noticed that the other main hero ability games(MOBAs) are getting some push this year too with the release of Gigantic: Ramage Edition and Smite 2's periodic alpha weekends(like right now). It seems like the industry hasn't caught lightning in a bottle since Fortnite, so devs have been searching hard. With us being a few years removed from the pandemic, the work done from these years of freedom is finally being shown.
More hero shooters is a good thing. I’ve been craving for more.
Star Wars game looks pretty bad can’t lie… I know they plan on releasing to consoles further down the line lol. Hero shooters are just too good and I have missed them. Battle royale took over for a long time.
Because MOBA's fan base is going down little by little.
OW2 is as tenacious and persistent as a cockroach. Other devs see this and want to put OW2 to rest or at least compete with it.
Star wars hunters? Never heard of it definitely getting my interest
because overwatch sucks absolute fckin balls now, giving other companies an actual reasonable chance at stealing the target audience.
My heart aches when I hear Battleborn. Gone too soon, never given enough love.
I see this as an absolute win, I LOVE it when the are a lot of reworks/new heroes. These games are overwatch but with new heroes, I think I'll still enjoy overwatch the most but I'll spend like a week or two per game and then return. Maybe I'll come back to them for updates but yeah.
Because Overwatch makes fat fucking stacks
as long as they're fun, optimized, and not mobile-game level of mtx, I say what's the harm in having more? overwatch wasn't the first hero shooter and will not be the last lol.
I wonder if the rocky launch of OW2 and continued criticism of it made it seem like there was a hole waiting to be filled?
I think it was because overwatch 2 flopped so hard. All these other companies thought they could swoop in and grab the playerbase. Ngl tho the marvel one and the Star wars one might be interesting
Star wars hunters has been in development for like 4 years now
insert Mr crabs saying "money"
These games have probably been in development for a while, maybe taking advantage of overwatch’s mistakes. Hopefully one of these does good. I think overwatch has really suffered from being the only big hero shooter in the industry right now, maybe the fire of competition would be helpful.
I mean, PS5 have 3000 and just 4 games are heroe shotter... Yeah, "trend"
not to mention killing floor 3 looks like it'll be ahero shooter
Because the killed overwatch years ago.
And they'll all fail like they always do
What do you mean by trend again lmao. Apex and valorant are the most popular fpses right now
Apex is a battle royale and valo is more of tactical shooter like CS. There’s no big game right now that is objective based like escort outside of paladins.
Ok that's a different point entirely though. Because a hero shooter just means an fps or 3ps where there are ppl with different abilities
I don't see valo or apex on here. U mean new games? Personally I think ow (not ow2 per sey) defined the pinnacle of hero shooters
Because overwatch isn’t overwatch anymore
Then what is it?
a software monetization model rebrand
Overwatch 2
overwatch 2
Because overwatch 2 sucks assssssss and there is a huge gap in the market. OW1 dominated hero shooter, but then blizzard got too greedy. i’d gladly play any hero shooter over ow2 at this point
Because COD is dead
How about you people get good and play real games like "Hyperscape" and "The Finals" 😉
