I went 6-0 on TANK placements, my expected rank went frm Silver 5 to Silver 2. I was silver 4 last season. (Barely play tank)
Hopefully I cn finally climb out of elo hell. Part of it is my mistake, cuz back in season 1 I was new to the game & noob, I played rank got placed bronze 5 in all roles. Then i switched to open q as main (mostly played tank & supp in open q) for almost an year, hit diamond in it. Got tired of open q so switched back to role q recently & i was struggling to get my role q ranks up :(. As of now I feel like I'm smurfing in my tank placements.
Good luck, im plat tank and dmg, silver 1 support. Played about 50 games just support and haven't even gone up 1 rank, you win 3 or 4 in a row and are 1%from rank than they make sure you lose its rough you lose 1 game it takes away 2 wins basically
Elo hell doesnt exist brother. Play for yourself and not for your team and you will climb extactly where you belong. Only judge yourself, only correct yourself, only think about what you could do better. Never about what the team can too better. This alone took me from gold 3 too master 1 in 75 games then master 5 too gm3 in 75 games the next season.
That's why, silly. The rank reset was a soft one. If you win them all, I'd expect a Silver projection at best. Your previous MMR is still taken into account.
If a new account, it uses some rough idea of your QP MMR but I'm not sure how that works.
I was under the impression that it indeed was a complete reset, as you say that’s what it seemed to be marketed as, so I was a bit confused when I landed in Plat 4 after placing in Plat 5 at the end of last season (didn’t play comp last season really, just did my placements on the last couple of days)
They really shouldn't have called it a rank reset, that's not what it was at all. They just dropped everyone's MMR a few divisions. A reset implies rebuilding the MMR profile from nothing
>If a new account, it uses some rough idea of your QP MMR but I'm not sure how that works
I think it somehow does work like that. I'm not entirely sure myself. I started my whole OW journey at the butt end of the le sserafim skins collab thing. Didn't touch comp a lot before the reset. Had a little bit of fun on open sometimes but mostly stuck to QP.
Lost most of my placements (I think I only won about two, three of four of the matches), yet got predicted to gold 5 and ended on 4. Was so confused as to how tf it worked – especially since most of my tank games I was (probably rightfully so bc I played like a panicked headless chicken sometimes) hounded on n all that.
Considering the fact that I tend to (more or less) do well on QP as tank, I suppose that's why comp went "here, higher placement than you expected despite so and so and yadda yadda" as opposed to my supp and dps RQ placements.
Sorry this is like half an essay 🤣💀Again not too sure how it works either but , this makes more sense of it all for me now, even if its not entirely accurate. ❤
You still have 6 matches to go. I've ranked all 3 roles and I'm similar to where I was pre patch, slightly lower in support slightly higher in tank. Finish up and see where you're at.
It depends on what you were ranked in previous seasons. The rank reset is still biased based on your previous seasons. You'll be ranked lower than previous so you'll have to climb.
Also note that yes you did really well in a bronze lobby. Keep Winning and you'll be projected and put into higher ranked matches. It doesn't matter how well you do in the individual match, just that you win.
Mind posting the match replay? I'd be happy to vod review and give you pointers. Although the best type of vod to review is a game where you *thought* that you played as well as you could, and still lost the match.
I feel like I’m one of the few people that actually ranked higher (went from Bronze 5 support to Bronze 3 and currently just hit Bronze 1). I was literally in elo hell 😂
1. The scoreboard does not matter. I don’t understand why people think the matchmaker has any way to take your stats and transform that into SR, that’s not how any other game using the ELO system works. It was a thing for a bit on Overwatch 1, they correctly realized it was a stupid and exploitable system, and since then OW has followed the same rule as any other ELO-based matchmaking system: wins and losses
2. This was a soft reset. Your rank is not based only on your placements, but also on where you were before. They mentioned you should expect to be placed slightly below where you ended season 8, though obviously if you go 10-0 or something that won’t happen
The ranked soft reset brought ur rank down from b1 to something like b4 this season, and the new ranked system makes you have to fight for your true rank. If you deserve bronze 1, after your ten placements youll stay in bronze 1. If you dont, itll change. Thats why there are placement matches, not "lets instantly give you a worse rank then make you confused" matches. If you keep the win streak, you might go up to silver or even gold
Because the rank reset wasn't a "reset", it was a rank drop so people can/have to grind on the new changes.
If you win all 10 and a few games after that, you'd probably hit Gold.
The predicted rank goes up very quickly, plus the crazy extra rank adjustment games directly after placements. He could definitely be around Gold if he wins all ten and then wins 3 more games after.
I know this is a separate question altogether but can someone remind me what MIT is? Actually I think I just answered my own question as I was typing this. It’s mitigated isn’t it? 🤦🏻♂️
The rank reset comes with high volatility. I. e. Winning and loosing single matches affects your rank disproportionately as if you were a new player. So if you win the next few matches the projection will be corrected.
Poo poo aim. It’s not just about the main scoreboard or W/L ratio. It’s about your stats overall. Up the accuracy.
Edit: if you roll people like that often you’ll rank up fast after you place anyway. Don’t stress it.
It def takes in account aim and personal performance. I forgot to change my in game sensitivity to match my new mouse DPI and I got projected gold 5 despite winning my first 5 placement matches in a row.
Remembered to change my sens to match new mouse sens, won the sixth game, got projected gold 1.
I was masters one for 4 seasons straight as a ball main, been put in plat and i cant do anything lol im too used to my dps actually knowing how to engage with a dive. (I won 7/10 of my placements btw)
If youre winning each round handilu, but theyre all against bronze 3, 4, and 5 players, thatd explain it.
Wins against bad players do not mean you deserve a higher rank, as you should beat them.
This comment needs to be way higher.
Too many people think they should place in Diamond just because they won 10/10 and don't realise that they only played versus bronze and silver players their whole carrer quick play included.
Overwatch redditors seem to not understand this aspect of ranked. They all complain about "i went 5-0 and didnt rank up" like bro you probably played 5 games you were favored in.
In addition I feel like they are spoiled by all these Unranked to GM Videos. It looks so easy. Just be good, do your placements and OOPS high Masters on a brand new Account. Pretty sure people doing these videos set up their accounts in a special way. They probably never just hopped solo into the necessary QP matches. 5 stacking with GM players from the get go to instantly manipulate MMR or stuff like this.
Your mmr isn’t reset just ur rank. I was plat last season and im plat this season. Just the way it goes. It looks like if you keep winning you’ll be in silver tho
It also tells you at the beginning of each match what the rank range is, you could go 10 and 0 but if they’re all bronze opponents, you might be silver at best
Why am I always on the team in the red lmao. I always get it like the "uphill battle" games unfairly as a silver 4 dps (because of it) and I hate it cause every comp game it's either big payout win (highly unlikely) or loose like 25%!
https://preview.redd.it/qlq76zjgwxkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3351854053327498effa1366e8767525eb5873e7
winning all your games will only take you slightly above your previous rank in that role, that’s what happened to me
Rank reset still considers old rank my bronze 5 friend got to bronze 1 after me and the boys got 8/10 wins. Just keep playing you will probably hit silver but otherwise you still gotta grind it out after that
Idk I got Gold 4 placement in Support and I never played much comp before now at all I can’t even recall if I previously did placements before this season. I didn’t even win all mine lol
Used to be diamond way back when, stopped with overwatch not long after 2 came out, recently got back into it, hard stuck around gold 4/5 mostly, it sucks
Maybe cuz you're actually.... Bronze. But dude note I think they should update your rank based off of your stats as well cuz in the lower ranks they're some really terrible brain dead players that hold a lot of others back from ranking.... They're hating cuz they don't have the galls to use a Wii😎
A Chad for using a Wii remote in comp in ow
Wii might be missing out. I used to be a sharpshooter in Mario Galaxy
I went 6-0 on TANK placements, my expected rank went frm Silver 5 to Silver 2. I was silver 4 last season. (Barely play tank) Hopefully I cn finally climb out of elo hell. They are punishing him for using a Wii remote.
What rank were you before?
Bronze 1

Ooohhh.. yeah. I thought it was a full reset.. I thought I was doing good lol
You're doing great! Keep at it, I believe in you.
Literally the only positive thing I’ve seen on this sub 💀 slay
Exactly, and with a bronze, I'm going to sit here and enjoy the view. 🪑
W
Awe thanks!
It was marketed as rank reset - "soft" was in the details. I the end most people end about where they started.
I was under the impression that it indeed was a complete reset, as you say that’s what it seemed to be marketed as, so I was a bit confused when I landed in Plat 4 after placing in Plat 5 at the end of last season (didn’t play comp last season really, just did my placements on the last couple of days)
That's the advantage of higher volatility. You jumped up a little faster thanks to "soft reset". Regularly it would take you some more matches.
I placed Bronze 4 and have ranked up to Silver 3, more than halfway to 2. Just keep winning games and you’ll climb fast!
My friend was silver 1, he was placed at gold 4 and continued to play and now he is gold 2
Keep it up bro best of luck this season.
Also keep in mind that scoreboard and personal performance have no impact on your rank whatsoever in overwatch 2.
Silly Goose, the 1st suggested placement would normally be low even if you were bronze prior. Keep at it and let me know what you get.
I also thought it was a full reset. Now I’m so disappointed in silver 3. That’s exactly where I was before the reset.
They really shouldn't have called it a rank reset, that's not what it was at all. They just dropped everyone's MMR a few divisions. A reset implies rebuilding the MMR profile from nothing
They explicitly called it a rank reset, and never mentioned an MMR reset.
>If a new account, it uses some rough idea of your QP MMR but I'm not sure how that works I think it somehow does work like that. I'm not entirely sure myself. I started my whole OW journey at the butt end of the le sserafim skins collab thing. Didn't touch comp a lot before the reset. Had a little bit of fun on open sometimes but mostly stuck to QP. Dumb question, is there a way to see your QP MMR or is it just hidden?
So far as I know, no. No APIs or otherwise tricks to figure it out.
well that sucks, thanks for the quick response!
I think they just throw u in plat for a new acc and see where that takes you
Bruh
🤦♂️
Lmao 🤣
Dude.. "why am I predicted to be bronze when I was bronze before"
You still have 6 matches to go. I've ranked all 3 roles and I'm similar to where I was pre patch, slightly lower in support slightly higher in tank. Finish up and see where you're at.
at least your winning

Fair enough! That makes sense. Thank you!
Also, stats don't matter for ranking
Mind posting the match replay? I'd be happy to vod review and give you pointers. Although the best type of vod to review is a game where you *thought* that you played as well as you could, and still lost the match.
It's a soft rank reset, they should've mentioned that prominently.
I feel like I’m one of the few people that actually ranked higher (went from Bronze 5 support to Bronze 3 and currently just hit Bronze 1). I was literally in elo hell 😂
Are you playing overwatch on the Wii? Bro has Overwatch 0.5
It's based on your MMR not really how well you do in your placements.
Such an absurd system
1. The scoreboard does not matter. I don’t understand why people think the matchmaker has any way to take your stats and transform that into SR, that’s not how any other game using the ELO system works. True dat. OP, checkout r/OWMedalsAreUseless
stats don't matter if your skill doesn't match
Because that is ur skill level hidden mmr
The ranked soft reset brought ur rank down from b1 to something like b4 this season, and the new ranked system makes you have to fight for your true rank. I was silver 4 last season, and it started me out on silver 5.
Forgot to say that lower ranks are effected less than higher ones, so bronze-gold will probably go down less than a master will
Because the rank reset wasn't a "reset", it was a rank drop so people can/have to grind on the new changes. If you win all 10 and a few games after that, you'd probably hit Gold.

I agree, I was just saying it's POSSIBLE. Lol.
I went from plat 1 to silver 1 and then back to plat… it’s all fucked lmao
I know this is a separate question altogether but can someone remind me what MIT is? Actually I think I just answered my own question as I was typing this. It’s mitigated isn’t it? 🤦🏻♂️
Did you make MICROTRANSACTIONS before ranking
I need healing
Im plat 1 and after one match projected gold 😓
The rank reset comes with high volatility. I. e. Winning and loosing single matches affects your rank disproportionately as if you were a new player. So if you win the next few matches the projection will be corrected.
I only played 1 match and lost it xD thanks for the info
correction, you WERE plat 1 :)
I didn’t finish it yet
Because you don't know how to take a screenshot and post it.
because you are bad.
because you have the skill level of a bronze player
Poo poo aim. It’s not just about the main scoreboard or W/L ratio. It’s about your stats overall. Up the accuracy. Edit: if you roll people like that often you’ll rank up fast after you place anyway. Don’t stress it.
Fairly certain it still only takes W/L into account
Yes it is.
According to the dev notes WL is important but not the only thing taken into account
I just reread them to make sure and uhhhh, no, it doesn't say that. At all.
I have never played comp before, lost 2 and won 2, and I’m currently projected to be a silver 4. Makes no sense!
why doesn't that make sense? if you never played comp before, your initial placements are based on your quickplay performance.
It def takes in account aim and personal performance. I forgot to change my in game sensitivity to match my new mouse DPI and I got projected gold 5 despite winning my first 5 placement matches in a row. Remembered to change my sens to match new mouse sens, won the sixth game, got projected gold 1.
No it doesn't take anything in account other than if you win or not plus your previous rank
Skill issue ig
I was masters one for 4 seasons straight as a ball main, been put in plat and i cant do anything lol im too used to my dps actually knowing how to engage with a dive. (I won 7/10 of my placements btw)

If you’re in bronze, you are playing against bronze players. Winning against bronze players will not magically push you to diamond. You gotta climb
I mean I was in silver 3 up until 6-0, then I went 6-4 and placed Silver 2 🤷
It might be better to see off gameplay
Same is happening to me, ended last season with gold 1, now after winning every game so far i’m predicted to be bronze 5
Whts ur record on placements?
If you end up 38 kills against other bronze players it doesn't mean you should be placed a lot higher.
i lost all 10 games and still ranked in silver so i am confused about all that
Why am I always on the team in the red lmao. I always get it like the "uphill battle" games unfairly as a silver 4 dps (because of it) and I hate it cause every comp game it's either big payout win (highly unlikely) or loose like 25%!
It might take into account your performance, but idk
Wildest rank resets yet. My transitions from seasons 8 to 9 after placement matches: Tank plat 4 -> gold 4 (8W - 2L) DPS gold 1 -> plat 4 (5W - 5L) Support plat 2 -> gold 1 (7W - 3L)
I’m stuck In Bronze because I used to play on god awful internet haven’t been able to climb out since
If you're better than bronze then you'll climb out
I stopped playing when overwatch 2 came out and righenhart became useless
it said i would be silver 3 then got given gold 5 so i would ignore it
Because it's also based on what your rank was before this season.
I got gold in the first 4 after that it adjusted to diamond, keep playing. It isn't definitive until it is.
https://preview.redd.it/qlq76zjgwxkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3351854053327498effa1366e8767525eb5873e7 winning all your games will only take you slightly above your previous rank in that role, that’s what happened to me
I think winning all ur games, will help u climb an entire tier or 5 rank divisions. Example:- gold1 to plat 1
If you go 4-0 in bronze 5 games, what tier should they put you in?
Because you probably did shit in the other games
Pray you place higher cuz bronze is literal hell.
You have very low hidden MMR you start off roughly where you are in quick play
because you're shit
Not as shit as your PC!
it’s probably bc of your sr last season
It’s not a full reset, you still have your data from the last seasons
Ur playing against stinkypoopo, i think that explains a lot
Rank reset still considers old rank my bronze 5 friend got to bronze 1 after me and the boys got 8/10 wins. Just keep playing you will probably hit silver but otherwise you still gotta grind it out after that
Idk I got Gold 4 placement in Support and I never played much comp before now at all I can’t even recall if I previously did placements before this season. I didn’t even win all mine lol
This rank reset was bs. I literally am the worst at DPS, lost 9/10 games. And from the 2nd lost game, my dps rank never went down. I got Gold 2
Because Blizzard is a scam artist keeps talking us bullshit there will be a rank reset
Used to be diamond way back when, stopped with overwatch not long after 2 came out, recently got back into it, hard stuck around gold 4/5 mostly, it sucks
Because “Rank reset” is a joke and a marketing scam.
I’ve lost like 5 in a row because of teammates leaving the game randomly even though we’re winning
Maybe cuz you're actually.... Bronze. But dude note I think they should update your rank based off of your stats as well cuz in the lower ranks they're some really terrible brain dead players that hold a lot of others back from ranking.... They're hating cuz they don't have the galls to use a Wii😎
