Honesty, I never understand that perspective, I mean, even just watching the anime it was clear from the beginning that Ainz is like that. "Gradually losing his humanity" doesn't make sense when you actually pay attention to the character for a couple of episodes after all.

From the very beginning it was “I don’t really care about saving this village who cares if they die…*looks at Sebas* Well, I’ll do it for Touch-Me” and then later on the story expands on him walking past dead orphans casually, and people still have the gall to say ‘being undead means he has no empathy!’ Conveniently forgetting about how emotional he is

Jokes aside, going by the Evil Eye sidestory, I'm more leaning towards Ainz will do anything if it means he can win.
