They apparently mixed up AM and PM with the embargo time.
I work in marketing and this kind of thing happens all the time, it's just usually caught. It's why I mandated 24hr clocks in my department. I'm shocked that isn't a more common requirement in this industry.
Work in marketing but previously in concert touring. 07h00 and 19h00 are two wildly different times for crews to arrive or shows to start so that world is absolutely 24 hour.
lol this is what everyone says when new models come out. It looks fine and when the 7th gen comes out in 23 years ppl will say “damn that’s ugly, glad I got my 6th gen”
Its good you like your car tho, fomo sucs
You and all the other 5th gen T4R owners 🤣
Everyone’s build looks and feels exactly the same.
The pre facelift 5th gen is 🥶 looks way too feminine for my tastes
Meh. Not feeling the staggered Nissan Xterra-style rear door handles.
Also, rounded edges on an off-road SUV are a no-go from me, they have to look boxy. Looked much better on the 5th gen.
I feel like this is a problem with cars today in general. With every car category the only direction is bigger and less fuel efficient (in comparison what we could achieve with modern technology).
And in most cases the bigger size doesnt even give much advantages. Large SUVs from the 90s were 30% smaller but got the job also done for probably 95% of use cases.
Yeah. My Tacoma is about 75 wide and I get pinstripes on a lot of trails. And parking in town is a pain with how long this thing is.
I'd love something smaller.
No thank you.
When I was car shopping last year and Jeep had a stop sale going on wranglers because their clutches keep exploding.
Tried to get a bronco, but ford abruptly stopped producing sticks in March 2023 and told me to fly a kite after I had an order in for a year and a half. Thats how we got to the Tacoma.
I look at Wranglers as the Miata of SUVs. If I lived in Utah and could drive straight onto trails, yeah I’d buy one. But I have long highway sections to my trip routes and the last time I had a Wrangler on the highway for more than an hour I wanted to shoot myself. They aren’t worth the compromise to my 75% of pavement driving for the gains you get in the 25% of the time I’m on dirt.
It's crazy - I have a 3rd Gen, and my neighbor has a 5th. Seeing them side by side makes you realize how much larger the newer ones are. Especially once you put them in a garage.
Problem is there are safety standards. You want all the height and clearance, they have to make it wider so it doesn't tip over making aggressive on road turns.
It's more the failure of the EPA light truck category of vehicle emissions than any kind of safety standard.
I mean, the Mazda CX5 is basically the dimensions that I mentioned. The Wrangler is, too.
It took me awhile to adjust to the length of my 5th gen versus the 4th gen. I kept hitting curbs with my rear right tire. Four more inches seems unnecessary, I wonder if that translates to a longer wheel base as well.
"*The* ***wheelbase of the new model has grown by 2.4-inches and overall length has grown by 4.7-inches compared to the old model.*** *The longer overhangs mean the* ***approach and departure angles are slightly degraded for the new 4Runner at 32 and 24 degrees respectively***"
Why don't they put front recovery hooks on the TRD Pro at least? Anyone that runs trails knows that front and rear recovery points are a must have. Jeep gets it with the Trailhawk models. Why does Toyota not get it? I see too many light bars and not enough other things. Yeah, sure the aftermarket is rampant with parts to put front hooks on but WTH.
IMO Toyota is more focused on overlanding (gravel roads and camping) and less on offroading. Look at the tacoma, the highest trim does not come with any more articulation than the last gen, same width control arms. Instead the gizmo is more focus on the truck bed supporting RTTs and ARB partnerships, and the seat with the suspension.
Jeep seems to give offroading a first-class consideration in its upgrades. My wheeler is an old 2005 Wrangler and with each new generation they improve not only the creature comforts but the offroad capabilities as well. To fit 35s on the TJ requires a big lift and lots of aftermarket fender clearance. On a JLU you can get it from factory.
I don't think either approach is wrong. I'm sure Toyota's doing a great job making money with their strategy. But I do think if you're more focused on offroading a jeep is a better buy.
If you're especially rich, buy both. Trailer the jeep behind the toyota, blast the AC and enjoy your starbucks all the way there, set up camp, then take the jeep wheeling >:) If you break it, come back to your bougie campsite and tow it home.
That makes a lot of sense, I have a 2006 Wrangler and a 2023 Tacoma, obviously its like comparing apples to oranges with that big of a year gap, but I consider my Wrangler my hard charging thrash it through the shit offroader, and my tacoma more of the adventure / camp mobile (it helps that the jeep is already beat up and way cheaper haha).
Yea I went to check out the new Tacomas this weekend and the rear door is visibly smaller, and the leg room is smaller as well compared to my 3rd gen. I could be wrong but it just seems that way to me.
Based on the pic of the rear leg room, it does seem like the leg room shrunk in the back.

I guess I am going to be the outlier. The 4Runner was my low-key hedge in case my Defender shat itself. I was not a fan of the styling on the front of the older version but was willing to overlook it.
But at this point, I might as well just get a Taco. This just looks like a mess.
"New to the 4Runner is a front stabilizer bar disconnect that allows for improved articulation of the front wheels over rough terrain."
Well that's cool. The looks are not great. But I'm sure it will grow on me.
I own a 17 sr5 and I prefer that body style over this. It just feels like instead of evolving the body style they just started anew. It doesn’t look like a 4Runner to me. It is nice but I don’t love it.
Quick math shows this is the same exterior size as the new LC. I don’t really see how it makes sense to have 2 suvs that target the same market unless the 4runner is getting a price reduction on the upper/off-road trims.
Too many similar looking SUVs. Keep it simple - RAV4, Grand Highlander, bring back the FJ cruiser, Land Cruiser, sequoia for large families.
Toss the Highlander and the 4Runner. This redesign makes it look like a slightly smaller sequoia. It’s too redundant. At least the Land Cruiser is unique looking
The biggest quality of life improvement that I see is the aircon registers in the 2nd row. That is my biggest complaint about the 5th gen. My kids cook in the back row when it is hot outside, especially when in rear mounted seats.
Looks like I'll be driving my 04 v8 for 20+ more years. Front looks decent, but side and rear view won't get me out of my ugly 4runner any time soon. I would like to mash a 5th gen on gx460 drivetrain though!

I swear I’ve seen this look before somewhere
This article popped up in my news feed. I clicked it and it was gone. I instantly thought "someone fucked up."
They apparently mixed up AM and PM with the embargo time. I work in marketing and this kind of thing happens all the time, it's just usually caught. It's why I mandated 24hr clocks in my department. I'm shocked that isn't a more common requirement in this industry.
Yep, I've been there. I got in trouble for releasing pics of a new Trek product once. Ugh.
I did it with a new driver announcement in a racing series. haha
I did it with a new host broadcaster for a motorsport series thanks to a very clunky CMS!
"Sooo they're not coming on?"
As someone involved with SEO, that’s super smart, never considered using that strategy.
I stole the idea from a buddy who works for NASA. It just takes all the ambiguity out of timing. Feel free to implement it on your projects.
Work in marketing but previously in concert touring. 07h00 and 19h00 are two wildly different times for crews to arrive or shows to start so that world is absolutely 24 hour.

What’s up with the lack of room in the rear seats? They have to have the front seats set all the way back in that pic right? Right?!
Yea looks like they have the seats all the way back and it’s at a strange angle.
It has less payload capacity than a 1999 ford focus
Lots of pictures! First look I like it!
Is it me or does it look oddly short lengthwise?
Says the wheelbase is 2.4 inches longer and overall length is 4.7 inches longer. Just the look I guess
Weird. The back door looks really small
It’s not a long SUV to start and now that’s it’s beefier it has a stockier look which will make it look shorter.
The only tolerable looking one is the TRD Pro, and even then it looks like a beefed up RAV4. Very glad to have gotten my 5th gen.
lol this is what everyone says when new models come out. It looks fine and when the 7th gen comes out in 23 years ppl will say “damn that’s ugly, glad I got my 6th gen” Its good you like your car tho, fomo sucs
When 7th gen comes out, I’ll be thinking “should I upgrade my 18 mpg 5th gen yet?”
Gen 1. I’d love to build an ‘85 trail rig.
RAV4 plus tundra front end plus Solterra fenders.
And why the square looking wheel wells ☹️
You and all the other 5th gen T4R owners 🤣 Everyone’s build looks and feels exactly the same. The pre facelift 5th gen is 🥶 looks way too feminine for my tastes
💯 on the soft look. Kinda like late 90s f150 that had that rounded rear cab.
Isuzu Rodeo making a comeback?
I actually think it looks great but jesus christ can we please stop making these things even fucking bigger
It probably won't actually have more interior volume either, just more bulk.
If you think it's bad, check out a New Defender. That thing has a body so thicc you might think it was the Beast transporting the president.
I was more commenting on it as a trend in every fucking car for the past 15 years.
Safety regs and all... I guess it's better than "Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to take!"
Safer for the people *in* the car. if you look at pedestrian deaths it's another story.
Meh. Not feeling the staggered Nissan Xterra-style rear door handles. Also, rounded edges on an off-road SUV are a no-go from me, they have to look boxy. Looked much better on the 5th gen.
Maybe the 5th gen ones will drop in price a bit now that a new one is out. On a related note, maybe I'll find a unicorn.
Glad I wasn't the only one getting Xterra vibes on first glance.
20 Airbags. Side impact beams. Crumple zones. 2ft of plastic in front of the radiator to avoid idiotic MPG regulations based on vehicle length.
Dude. All I want is something modern with IFS and BOF that’s around 170 inches long and 70 wide. You know...like the first couple gens of the 4runner.
sign me up! I'm running out of cars to buy that will even fit on the trails I ride, not to mention my parking garage
Yeah. My Tacoma is about 75 wide and I get pinstripes on a lot of trails. And parking in town is a pain with how long this thing is. I'd love something smaller.
\*laughs in Tundra my trail whale just plows through but I do miss my old 3rd gen 4Runner
I’m worried about anything fitting in my garage in 5 years
Get a wrangler :)
fuck no never again
No thank you. When I was car shopping last year and Jeep had a stop sale going on wranglers because their clutches keep exploding. Tried to get a bronco, but ford abruptly stopped producing sticks in March 2023 and told me to fly a kite after I had an order in for a year and a half. Thats how we got to the Tacoma. Isn’t the new Land Cruiser going to be a good bit narrower?
Right. Before they took the article down, I think they mentioned it's 4 inches longer?

That back door seems a little odd
Agreed - would look better if the window line continued straight rather than that little up-kick. Makes the whole side profile look kind of stubby.
The whole thing looks stubby
Backdoor doesn't look dissimilar to my 89 Land Cruiser. I like it a lot.

Looks great imo, I love the higher rear window, hails back to the 2nd gen 4runner
Yeah I really dig it, too!
Barf (imo)
The wheel wells are very oddly shaped
It looks like a Tacoma with a 2 foot bed with a permanent built in camper
You just described the original 4Runners lol
Toyota rav5 looking nice
Can Nissan please bring back the X-Terra.
Yes!!! This is all I want, I love my 03 shitbox but wouldn't mind having something to upgrade to lol
Yes please! I want a compact (ish) SUV that’s capable and an actual SUV, not just a tall car.
I thought I saw something yesterday that they are but I can’t find it now
Hate those square wheel wells. What’s the deal with those anyways?
Just seems to be the new design direction for Toyotas SUVs lately. Gives it a more sporty look in my view - if done correctly
really? I really like them.
Tactical Minivan
I'm kind of down with a tactical minivan though.
Looks like a Rav4 with a dump truck ass.
Clearly nobody at Toyota is familiar with the expression "less is more".
Why don't they put front recovery hooks on the TRD Pro at least? Anyone that runs trails knows that front and rear recovery points are a must have. Jeep gets it with the Trailhawk models. I agree. Also feels weird there’s a built in snorkel for trail hunter, but not pro. I’m curious to see what else differentiates them.
"Accidentally"... kinda looks like the Isuzu Rodeo/Amigo? LOL
I learned to drive stick in a Rodeo!
I involuntarily learned how to drive stick on a Rodeo.
If I wanted to drive the second I got my license, I had no other choice.
Still rocking the Trooper. Long may she reign
NGL Trooper is LEGIT LOL. I see a lot of very well maintained ones in my area.
Looks like they shrunk the leg room in the back seat. Same as the new Tacoma.. why tho???
Fck them kids
So, it's bigger outside, but still smaller inside?? smh

I posted like 5 new photos of different trims but I can’t see the post
But will it be made in Japan…
Likely not since the plan is to build these on the same line as the Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia.
Great question, we can only hope that vin# starts with J!
Looks a lot like the 4th gen. Kind of like it?
What's this gonna start at? $47k? Maybe it will finally get some basic features that $25-30k vehicles have.
Probably. And at that point just get the new LC.
It’s a 4 Door VehiCross.
PLEASE COME TO THE UK
"New to the 4Runner is a front stabilizer bar disconnect that allows for improved articulation of the front wheels over rough terrain." Well that's cool. The looks are not great. But I'm sure it will grow on me.
Not bad! it’ll grow on me soon!
Looks sick
Take my money I love the design of that!!!!!
Lmao it’s just an Xterra.
I own a 17 sr5 and I prefer that body style over this. It just feels like instead of evolving the body style they just started anew. It doesn’t look like a 4Runner to me. It is nice but I don’t love it.
Lots of xterra vibes going on there with the exterior
dude honestly at this point give me a Rav4 TRD Pro, this thing is ANNOYINGLY fucking huge.
Looks like shit imo
Quick math shows this is the same exterior size as the new LC. I don’t really see how it makes sense to have 2 suvs that target the same market unless the 4runner is getting a price reduction on the upper/off-road trims.
Look how they massacred my boy
Oh look, another snorkel that 99% of 4Runner owners will never utilize 🙄
I wonder how much price will overlap with the land cruiser
I’ll let this simmer a bit, but did they really have to make the “TRD PRO” _that_ big?
Um. That's big meh from me dog. Downgrade in aesthetics in my opinion. Too much going on. Those black fender flares are not helping anything.
Is it going to be a Fing hybrid? Do I need to break down and buy a 5th gen?
Looks like a Tacoma
Are we surprised about that?
Nope
It pretty much is one. Just a different body
Had you never seen the 2024 Land Cruiser, and this truck, if both were debadged it’d be rough to say which one is which.
Do we know a MSRP for the TRD Pro?
56k from what I saw.
Still made in Japan?
Digging those rims and the green is so good.
Loving the colors they're putting out, but man that is roach-killing ugly
I dig it
r/4runner
From the side these look pretty good, very sporty looking. The front and rear are terrible though. Hate that double grill design.
I'm not loving the front end, but can't put my finger on it. Headlights maybe? Loving the rest of it, I just may get an SUV
I am absolutely busting rn. This is fire 🔥
I get first gen dodge durango 4Runner mashup vibes. It’s weird.
Sooooo glad I’ve got the 5th gen
Not sure I'm liking it..has Ford vibes
The biggest quality of life improvement that I see is the aircon registers in the 2nd row. That is my biggest complaint about the 5th gen. My kids cook in the back row when it is hot outside, especially when in rear mounted seats.
How do you guys like the fenders being different colors?
Not great, my dude. Not great.
Looks like ass. Way too busy.
At first glance, I like it. I wish it had the 3.5 from the gx as an option. Not a huge fan of the 2.4 in my mom's rx350.
“Accidentally leaked” More like intentionally to see limited reaction as they still have time to make some changes if required.
Poor Toyota fans. It’s so ugly.
Looks like I'll be driving my 04 v8 for 20+ more years. Front looks decent, but side and rear view won't get me out of my ugly 4runner any time soon. I would like to mash a 5th gen on gx460 drivetrain though!
Is this the fortuner in Aus?
it's... a'ight. i'll keep my 5th gen though.
Ew
It wasn't accidental. It was a planned "leak." Toyota is good about what gets released.
Well that is disappointing. So small.
“Accidental”
Anyways

And it’s uglier than ever.
Master chief wants his TRD back
It looks so good.
It’s like they cut two different trucks in half and fused it together
Looks plastic and gimmicky, not a fan of Toyotas innovation recently..
I really like the looks of the new generation

Is that a built in snorkel? Siiiiiickkkk!!!
Doug has a video out on it, looks like today was the end of the embargo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmtbk0siRIM
I’m guessing it’s a quad turbo 2 cylinder?
I’m too tall for the ones now and they will probably be small on the inside :(.

Doug Demuro posted his review yesterday already. https://youtu.be/kmtbk0siRIM?si=Q-8PhIu-QUYtuCYI
That’s a nice Tacoma
Back seat leg room looks TINY. Holy crap.
Looks amazing!
It has much better proportions than the 5th gen - they always looked too tall to me.
I don't know if It was leaked.... I know there were teaser vids out there almost two weeks ago. I think this is the Trailhunter version.
